Description

Kaleo

Warrior (1)

Image

~Ever since the conflict with the Outsiders dissolved and the two prides merged together, the newly expanded pridelanders were much more accepting of one another as well as other lions outside their pride-- unless they were a real threat, of course. Some were driven out and some were taken in. Among these adopted lions was none other than Kaleo: optimistic, whimsical, friendly
the over all happy-go-lucky guy who saw the good in everything and enjoyed doing so a little too much. Never one to let himself be bored easily, he would find pleasure in doing anything, often turning it into a game of some sort. Despite fooling around a lot, he still got things done efficiently. Thus, he was appointed to be one of the Warriors.~

“WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO--” splash! Ah, just when the morning started out so peaceful with the various herds quenching their thirst. A furry four hundred fifty-two pound of wet mass emerged from the surface of a somewhat vast water hole, gasping for air. Hurriedly making his way to the edge of the pool, Kaleo fiercely shook his mane at an attempt to dry off before proceeding to caress his rear. He grunted, “Didn't look too shallow to me...” Yikes! I should probably start judging water holes by their color. He grinned, the thought seeming to be ironic somehow; perhaps in another dimension where lions were actually judged by the color of their fur.
He shook that silly idea away and stalked back to his makeshift “diving rock,” ready for round two. Yes, he hurt his tush but there was no way he considered that a fail. Embarrassing? A wee bit, maybe. Especially with the group of zebras snickering at him. However, he regretted nothing. Besides, he had faith in his tail not to break from that little stunt.
Many animals rolled their eyes before leaving to continue their day. Others simply ignored him, accustomed with his playful yet obnoxious behavior. Some even found it cute. The joy of youth, yes? He looked at the remaining ones who didn't mind his morning bathing routine and waved them over, eyes glinting with enthusiasm. "C'mon, guys! You're missing out!"

(Gaaahhh I had a little writer's block!)

Favorite food? I don't really have one but I've been into powdered donuts lately.

So begins...

Ada

The sun was high, casting rays of heavenly gold on the day of the Princess’ first hunt. It must be a sign from Simba himself, Ada mused. On this particular day, the pridelanders have gathered at the steps of Pride Rock, waiting for the princess to make her appearance. Ada slinked into the crowd of lionesses eagerly anticipating the princess’ entry, grinning to herself as she had appeared to have not yet been noticed late. Her sharp, red eyes flickered nervously across the pride, wary of a specific lioness that might have noticed her, and will certainly give her a thrashing for her unseemly time of arrival. Examining the crowd, Ada saw no sign of Nuru. Only the stream of lionesses and lions, some chatting excitedly amongst themselves, others taking the opportunity to catch some the warm sunlight to bask, and the warriors silent, and poised – except for three. Kaleo, and Sango, were absent from the gathering. They must be in some kind of trouble with Folami, Ada thought humorously to herself, as she yawned and rolled on her side.

The hot sun shined on Ada’s pale, tawny fur, lulling her to sleep. Her eyes started to grow heavy as she tried to fix her eyes upon the steps of Pride Rock. “Where’s Nuru, anyway?” she asked sleepily to the gaggle of lionesses beside her. If they had answered, Ada did not listen, for she had answered her own question in her weary mind. If she knew anything of her superior, it was that Nuru was given the rank of Head-Huntress for a reason. She was probably already at the gathering, perched somewhere where Ada would have missed, and Nuru was likely to be watching her very closely. Unable to fight her drowsiness, her eyes rolled shut and she began to snore softly, allowing the warm day to put her to rest.

Queen Kiara and King Kovu emerged together from the den and made their way down the steps. The Queen greeted her pride with a motherly, adoring smile while her King followed gallantly beside her. The royal family radiated with a transcendence, and power that grew from the love and unity of the pride. Such it was from the pride since Kiara and Kovu brought the Outsiders together, to be inducted as one. The Queen and King were met with bows and words of courtesy, and a row of “your majesty’s” from the warriors. While the rest of the pride joined to meet their rulers – Ada was still snoring blissfully, and even rolled on her back to let the warmth of the sun embrace her stomach.

Folami

Folami had gotten up extra early on this particular morning, it let him do his own quick patrol of the Pridelands while the rest of the pride slept. After all having all the warriors out would increase the odds of finding a mishap - but it was also more predictable and easier to get around than a surprise lone warrior. Given that particular nature of what would occur later on in the day, Folami wasn't going to leave anything to chance if he could help it... especially the Gorge and the Elephant Graveyard. Given Simba's father had perished in the Gorge and the rather reclusive nature of the Elephant Graveyard Folami went out of his way to leave signs of a big cat like himself in the area.

Of course, that didn't mean Folami was forever diligent - as the sun began to come up he took a nap which resulted in him having to force himself up before the hunt began. While it was very difficult to fight off the urge to sleep, duty was much more important and as such Folami managed to return to Priderock before things truly began. He made a particular effort to pull Sango and Kaleo aside, over the course of the day all the warriors would end up hearing from him. In this case, they just happened to be the unlucky pair he started with.

"Obviously this goes without saying...but today is the Princess' first hunt. I'd like if we could ensure today ran everything full and - no playing, no lazing around. At least for today be utterly flawless and if you even think something is out of order...crack down with extreme prejudice. Especially if you think it's hyena's or another pride, then I expect you to call me and if you see the princess - use a bird to give me an update. I don't care if hunting is the females' job, take the prey down yourself if she doesn't seem up to it." Having merely been accepted in the pride instead of being born, Folami was accustomed to unusual roles and took nearly agonizing level of detail and caution with his job out of gratitude for his 'adoption' into the pride. It was also why despite phrasing his sentences as more orders, he behaved more like he was offering suggestions and waited for input from his fellows like he was doing now.

"So what route are you guys taking? Just so we know where everyone and can keep everything covered - I checked the Graveyard and Gorge this morning and nothing seemed out of place. But well that was then and this is now."

Sango

"Ah Mornings...nothing special about it. They say sunrises are magical but then again it's just like sunsets and those are no less magical...my mind can fill in the details of a rising sun." Sango thought to himself as he lazily stretched his body. He really had no interest in waking up early, but of course today was a great big day. The Princess is going out on her first hunt, oh goody! Not that isn't exciting or nothing, but did he really have to get up for that? When he participated in his first hunt it wasn't like there was some big procession to celebrate that fact...but then again he isn't royalty. What's the big deal about royalty anyway? Oh yeah, those lions changed the Pride Lands forever. Eh? Being a big hero and legend is something that is far too glamorous for someone like Sango. Let those royals keep that fame, he much prefers being out of sight snickering about how everyone gets so serious around it.

Not too say he isn't grateful to the likes of Simba and Kovu and Kiara, after all the Pride Lands would be a different place today without them. He couldn't be as lax as he is if the Hyenas and the former Outsiders had there way. So he could at least thank them for giving him the opportunity to snicker about things. Which leads him to wonder about the extra security for today. He has heard of a growing Hyena problem, which of course he was appointed to help patrol. Yet, would they attack the Princess on her first? He supposes that might be strategic, but then again, Hyenas aren't known for strategy. Still his perfect morning of sleeping in was ruined by Folami, the Head Warrior. He was pulled aside along with a fellow warrior Kaleo.

"Hey oh, Kaleo. Some fine morning isn't it?" He spoke sarcastically. He then shifted his head over to Folami as he gave his military spiel about today. "Sheesh, it's like were at war." He spoke under his breath, enough for Kaleo to hear. He didn't mind Folami to be honest, his only probably with him is that he could lighten up some. Sure life can be dangerous out here in the Pride Lands but it's only as stressful as you make it. With calm and cunning, one can make life comfortable out here. Yet, Sango didn't feel like lecturing the finer points on how to be lazy. He continued to listen to his commander and began to think about routes. "Well, sir, I was thinking about taking a stroll down to the Water Hole. I mean, who knows what evil lurks just beyond it's murky depths?" He answered in a dryly manner.

Kaleo

Despite going to sleep late, Kaleo often awoke at the crack of dawn, however, it was no surprise to see many of the pride members awake at such an early hour. It was the princess’ first hunt! He was excited for her, eager for her to feel the adrenaline he felt on his first hunt. On the other hand, he was slightly dreading the strict instructions from his superior. He could already hear a stern voice telling him, “No fooling around.” The upcoming event had to go well. Folami was already gone, most likely patrolling the Pridelands. He admired him for his diligence and initiative to protect their new family; the family who took him in after the feud between the Pridelanders and Outsiders dissolved. Ever since the two prides have come together, Kaleo thought nothing was impossible to achieve and gave him a better outlook on life. Of course, he was still very aware of the struggles and evils of the world. But he concluded that there were still many beautiful things and with time and understanding, perhaps the world will finally live in harmony just as their pride did.

Kaleo could make out Folami’s returning form from the distance, his dark coat of fur a stark contrast to the bright, golden sunrise over the horizon. He nodded towards him in acknowledgement with a tired grin before being pulled aside. Folami was stern and intimidating at first glance, but was actually very kind. He used his large size to his advantage, moderately greater than he and Sango, who greeted him sarcastically. Kaleo chuckled at his comrade’s familiar behavior. “Yeah,” he took a long whiff at the air, “I feel great!”

His light attitude was slightly brought down once Folami started speaking. Just as expected: playing was prohibited. That meant no funny business or games on the watch. Kaleo personally didn’t take many things as a threat but when it came to the pride, he was extremely skeptical of his surroundings. Man, why did the hyenas have to be so shady? At least he was able to have some fun if the huntresses needed help taking down a prey. He could only hope that the lionesses were feeling somewhat lazy today.

”So what route are you guys taking? Just so we know where everyone and can keep everything covered - I checked the Graveyard and Gorge this morning and nothing seemed out of place. But well that was then and this is now.” No playing, huh? The Tree of Life itself was distracting so he wasn’t going near there-- not that he had no self-control. He just didn’t want to take the risk of seeing Rafiki. He could only remember what happened the last time he met that old monkey. And who knows what he would do at the Water-- ”Well, sir, I was thinking about taking a stroll down to the Water Hole. I mean, who knows what evil lurks around it’s murky depths?” Guess that’s taken care of. Hmmm
Mount Kilimanjaro seemed like a pretty good option. While enjoying the view, he would be able to scan the territory better. Maybe even catch an enemy if he decides to take the extra mile up... they can run but they can’t hide.

The scorching sun was already up as Kaleo straightened his back, “I’ll check around the premisses of Mount Kilimanjaro! If I see no further threat, I will ascend the mountain and proceed to look for any suspicious activity.”

Folami

Folami found himself inadvertently snarling with the answers he received, but instead of making a show of things...he compromised.

"Kaleo, that's a brilliant idea and at the very least thank you for at least attempting to sound serious." Folami shook himself in a poor attempt to hide his earlier snarl.

"I understand today is very nice and sunny, perfect nap weather and I want one myself. As such, Sango I understand your desire to goof off at the water hole... just for today at least don't let the lionesses think you're full out Hakuna Matata. Same to you Kaleo, I know I'm usually a stick in the mud - so considering today is rather special I can understand a little official sun bathing. In exchange, just don't get too wrapped up in your fun that someone ends up saying something. I'd like to at least pretend today was the perfect light day where everyone was able to at least look busy and nothing goes wrong so no one knows otherwise."

Of course Folami himself intended to do his usual route. It'd taken him a while to come up with the circuit, but he was quite confident his was the best way to quickly cover the Pride Lands while leaving as few blind spots as possible. He was pretty sure that at the very least he would be able to quickly arrive if any trouble started so long as the lion who should have the better view wasn't engrossed in their fun. The one's he found being less-than-vigilant, he would impress upon tomorrow...a bit of mercy in accordance for today. At any rate, he'd said what he wanted to in terms of official business resulting in a curt nod before beginning his own exit but not before having some fun of his own.

"Of course a lion of particular virtue might catch the princess' eye and become king - royals and their eccentric tastes you know. At the very least, I'm sure there's enough young lionesses out and about today where it might be embarrassing to act like a baboon or cub...lest they see and name you mouse." In a rather rare moment, Folami actually didn't keep a straight face with his rather questionable attempt at humor. His return to Pride Rock for final coordination mostly showed that he'd taken longer than he'd expected...but oddly enough that didn't seem an issue with a particular lioness having the time to sun her tummy.

"Enjoying things before ceremony becomes work?" His rumbling tone had a marked different undertone compared to when he addressed his fellow warriors. "Or is this a new way to catch antelope? Because if it is I think I can get some lions who'd love to help."

If Folami had to take a guess, his tone changed for lionesses because he no longer needed to prove anything - least of all his extra largeness. After all, any male can defend territory - not many had been forced to wander and hunt on their own like himself. However any lioness could and would flat out beat him on a hunt. That recognition of inferiority just put him more at ease for some reason.

Folami

Fomlami found himself forcing a smile with Ada's reaction...perhaps he does spend too little time around Priderock and too much time working. He also wanted to comment that even he couldn't be serious all the time, after all a home without joy wasn't a home. But the lioness had brought the youngsters to his attention, and even had an offer of play.

"The better question is if they'll grace me with theirs," Folami mimicked Ada's motion of laying down while ensuring the younger lions heard his reply. It wasn't long until smaller bodies tackled in his own and he was feigning helpless flailing in play. Folami found himself definitely thinking he needed to interact with his fellow pridemates more if his image was like this. He did find the pause with Zazu then the resumed chatter weird...the royals really were taking their sweet time. He even noticed his fellow warriors weren't exactly setting out either, and he really couldn't blame them.

Ada returned Folami to the present with her question on the border, because truthfully he hadn't heard anything yet. It was one of the reasons he made sure to keep his own route so efficient. If her source on hyenas wasn't a lie, he'd be doing his rounds real quick. After all, the hyena situation while never good had allegedly gotten worse after Scar if he remembered correctly.

"In that case, you've heard more than me. The birds seem reluctant to get close enough to even pass on a message I need to deliver - much less actually bring one to me. They probably think I'll eat one if they say something I don't like, but I'll keep my eyes peeled since I may have missed something during my quick morning patrol." Of course the announcement was far from dignified given his currently 'pinned' position, but his answer in his business tone.

"I'll be a baboon's uncle before letting hyenas think they can just enter the Pridelands whenever they please...if we find any of course."

Sango

Sango watched as Folami walked away, presumably back on his patrol. He could only chucking as, Folami of all people, gave him clearance to be a bit lazy. "Well I would say that Folami made a good joke...until you realize that Folami ain't the joking type." He spoke towards Kaleo. "So the mountain huh? I've been there a couple times, I've met a Leopard name Kojo up there before. A real weird guy but kind of funny, so if you see him say hi for me okay?" He asked Kaleo. "Well," He then stretched and yawned, "I better get to inspecting that Water Hole, I mean the water isn't going to drink itself." He then chuckled as he began to walk away.

He eventually made his way to the Water Hole, arguably the most popular hang out for the animals of the Pride Lands. While he didn't believe Hyenas are that stupid that they would even come near the place, he might as well do a lap around it. He could at least say he actually patrolled the hole. He walked around saying hi to the nearby animals who were relaxing underneath this fine day. At least some of the animals preferred to laze about instead of attend today's ceremony. As he finished his lap he didn't notice a single Hynea, either near or far. "Just as I thought, no danger here! The perfect place to relax without any distractions." Sango thought to himself.

He decided to stretch and yawn as he laid down by the water. He kept his head up and looked around from time to time, but he was mostly sun bathing. Of course he did keep an eye out for any lions in the area. He didn't want to be caught or lest he may get an earful from Folami again. Like that isn't always fun. Of course Folami's attempts at joking made him wonder if he's just bad at it or he was actually serious. He wasn't much for becoming a King, that seemed like too much work, besides that whole royal thing is overrated. No, he was much happier to be a grunt in the Kingdom instead of being it's King. After all, he could no longer laze around the Water Hole as a King! He would have to worry about things like raising heirs, addressing issues of the Pride Lands like food, water, and Hyenas. Not too mention having to deal with such boring people like Zazu and Folami! Oh man, the dreariness! The only thing he liked about the gig was that everyone had to listen to him.

"Hm, nah, being able to boss people around is cool but all that other stuff would be such a bore!" He thought to himself. Of course he still didn't like the idea of being called a mouse. That would probably be something that Ada and Kaleo will make sure he never hears the end of it. Sheesh what a bother.

Kigiin

Kigiin was not altogether anxious or nervous, but she definitely was hesitant about walking among her Pride members today. She had watched her parents leave the den and descend Pride rock, but... Kigiin couldn't say that there wasn't any pressure on they day's events because, of course, there was. Some, maybe most would want her to succeed or maybe they'd all expect little to nothing out of her. The ability to always remain socially aware of her pride members standings was always difficult for her to really stick with as she liked to keep herself company.

Okay, here it goes. Kigiin shook out her coat as if physically brushing all the negative or pressuring thoughts in her head like she would with flies.

Kigiin began her descent down pride rock, feeling a particularly playful breeze rush around her, blowing up some leaves and bits of grass. Well, no one has commented on any of my embarassing cub-hood memories, so I think I'm doing good. She smiled lightly at her pride members that were present, trying hard not to just lope to the end of the aisle her parents had trod thought earlier.
