Introduction

Past Events
In 1859, young Beatrice was out in the hot Tennessee sun, when the sky opened high above her. The other people in the cotton field stared in awe as a crack shot across the sky and slowly opened. Lined in fire, this split in the sky was filled with stars and screamed so loud that the ground began to shake. As Beatrice and the others stared into this unbelievable opening no one worked; this was a work of god to them, something undeniably devine. From this rip in space a small rock fell, no larger than a dollarbill, at an incomprehensible speed. It smashed into the ground at her feet. Picking it up she flipped it over, to find three words inscribed in it; "Save Our Ship."
In 1987, an aging scientific mind named Carl Taft came into possesion of this rock. After hearing of its origins, and seperating truth from the years of edited retellings, he began to experiment on it. When he discovered that the age of the rock predated anything known to man, including the age of the universe itself he immediatly began a drive to present this finding to his colleagues. He never made it, dying when he collided with another vehicle. This amazing discovery became a legend, then a myth, and finally fiction. The rock was never found.

The Luxury Cruise Ship, Long Grain, plans to make its maiden voyage on September 28 2015. On this voyage it will circumnavigate the globe carrying hundreds of passengers of many ages. Many people are calling this ship the next Titanic, claiming that it will meet a terrible fate and they aren't wrong. The people on the ship don't realize it, but they're about to embark on a journey that will send them further than they've ever gone before. And it will change them physically, mentally, and spiritually.
You are one of these passengers. Either you are one of the staff, one of the hundreds that were lucky enough to be a part of this trip, or a sketchy stowaway. The important thing is that you are on this ride, and there's no turning back.
Active events will be in red, future events will be black, and past events will have a strike. Blue events are considered topics of discussion and generally have to do with the world.
The Ship is about to depart. Staff, passengers, and stowaways alike all find their way onto the massive ship. People mingle and lines are drawn.
World News
Strange weather effects are happening world-wide. Considered by most to be because of the runaway greenhouse effect.
Character Creation Rules
You may use either a photo of someone or an anime/manga image to portray your character.
You may not have a magical or fantasy backstory. This is a real world setting UNTIL the ship starts to sail. Then things get weird.

Feeling his pulse begin to race, Danziger pats his knee. "It will be fine, do you have a pair of lace up boots? I will come to your Quarters, and lace it onto you, so you can dance tonight. Stay off it all day. But if it really hurts? Dance in a rolling chair!" She takes special care as she wraps his foot and ankle. He waxes his legs, and has the prettiest feet. His toe nails are polished.
Danziger's own leg hairs are so fine and blond she doesn't bother waxing any more. "I think one of the South American maintenance crew members can repair shoes, so if you want those fixed ask down there... and if you can't get them to understand, I will translate for you."

Egecatl Quispe sees a woman lost in thought at the railing, and wonders if she has not heard the Captain's order for life boat drill. He understands reverie and does not want to startle her out of some trance or commune with whatever spirits guide her. Still, everyone must do the drill. It is the law.
"El mar, es muy hermoso." He says. "Beautiful." His Spanish and English both are accented with the lilt of his native language, Quechua. "The Lady should go to her life boat now, however." He smiles.
His eyes are deep brown, like fine chocolates, and his long black hair is barely tamed by braids and pulled back into an elastic. His uniform is not like that of the ships officers, instead he wears white duck trousers and a white tee shirt with the cruise line's colors decorating the left sleeve. The name tag on his left breast reads, "Egecatl, Peru" and under that it says, "cleaner." Lean and muscled he is nearly the same height as the woman at the railing.
He touches the brim of his extremely non-uniform hat, and nods.

"Fine."
Something about what Doctor Danziger had said was sobering. It could have been the insistence on a formal title, but Alyse knew better. Growing up, she'd rarely felt constrained by her disability. Her entire life had been spent in a chair and quickly grew used to the condescension, strange looks, and exclusion that came with it. Now as she allowed her self to be wheeled away from the comforting liquids she felt that constraint.
She remembered her fathers finger on her forehead, "You are human because of this," his hand moved to tap her knee, "Not this. It's better to ignore someone who can't see the difference."
She remembered that day well. She was eight. A fellow student had begun calling her a robot and claiming that he didn't want her around because he was scared that she'd go 'terminator' on him. She came home crying and it took her father nearly an hour to get what happened out of her. After she told him, they both watched all of the Terminator movies back to back and when the next school day came, she went in dressed as Arnold complete with a horrible accent.
That was the last day she could remember that she'd let her disability really feel like a disability. So this feeling she had right now was strange, foreign, and probably the reason she wasn't feeling as cheerful as she been had a few moments ago.
She said nothing as Doctor Danziger went through the procedure. She just stared at the calm sea and blamed the alcohol for how bad she felt. Even when something in the back of her mind said it wasn't the drink.

"Fuck this! I paid nearly $2000 dollars to get on this boat," he lied," What's another $100?"
His finger tipped over a full glass of whiskey so that the liquid splashed across the table as he turned to walk out. He knew that he shouldn't have, but Buster never had been able to fully push the anger aside. When he was able to keep himself from getting violent it usually resulted in property damage and swear words. He was a ticking bomb. He knew this, his coach had known this, and his co-workers knew this.
He'd love to say he hadn't lost his temper since he was twelve but there were many hospital bills, ruined friendships, and broken hearts that said otherwise.
"Maybe I will take it up with whoever you said, and then I'll be expecting an apology and a refund." He pushed the door open.

Danziger had her porters grab the chair and mount the stairs, keeping the occupant level, she had them deposit her when she could roll on her own, but the crowd on the lifeboat deck caused her to push the chair, instead of having Ms Taft move it herself (in addition to the concern that Danziger had about the young woman drinking and driving.)
The day was bright, and the sky clear and unrelentingly blue, and the life vests were every bit as orange and the sky was blue. She donned hers and handed one to the woman she was accompanying. "In a real emergency..." she said sotto voce, "I could carry you on my back. I have a harness for that. We used them in the Marines, when we had bug outs from field hospitals." Not pausing she added, "and I have a transfer chair in your lifeboat, so that if your chair has to be left behind, you won't be S.O.L"
Children had found the whistles on their life vest, and parents were admonishing them to not blow into them.

Alert, my eyes don't leave the eyes of the man, and I can feel the various parts of me twitching in anticipation of the moves his eyes are telegraphing. Finally his hand flashes toward the small water dish of the sort humans use for the strange astringent which they imbibe. (So small, I have dipped my tongue in these once, but the fluid within was like a poison to me! I can recall the dry burning sensation, even now.) He upsets the dish, but does not throw it, which is good.
I watch the Boss to take the next cue.

Ugh, manchildren...
Steve shrugged at the dealer apologetically, but he didn't think much more of the incident after that, just another guy to keep in mind. He made the motion to have Spock come to heel, scratching the dobbie between the ears and giving him a small treat for obedience. He followed Buster for a short while making sure he didn't look like causing anymore trouble on the way. Then he did a round of his patrol making sure everyone was on their way or at the drill.
Walking in right on time, Steve's job was guiding a group of children through the drill. Up-Top thought that kids would pay more attention to a guy with a dog than one without. Really it all balanced out, Spock was good with kids, but the kids were more interested in the dog than the drill. Steve had to coax them by saying he'd show Spock's tricks if they behaved well.
Ah, the crunchy treat, the one I can eat on the move, which means the Boss and I have more work. The hard scrape of the flavorful cookie against my teeth is both stimulating and satisfying. As I feel my tongue seeking out the the last dregs of taste from every surface inside my mouth I trot beside the Boss to our next assignment.
On deck! With human-puppies, which I enjoy immeasurably. They are sticky and full of odors and motion and surprises. All of which I adore. The Boss dons the puffy shirt with the whistle and the light that blinks. This means he will hold mine up to put on next. Often when I wear this I get to fly off of the deck or a pier and into the water to rescue someone or fetch some object; but we have done this sort of drill before, and I know it is our job to keep the puppies and their parents calm about the whple thing.
The whistles are bothersome, but at least they do not cause me to have to join my voice with theirs. Some sounds demand that I harmonize in order to enforce my status.
Then we herd them all aboard one of the small enclosed rooms. After that the Boss sits, and I lay at his feet.
After a silence that seemed to last more than a week, Egecatl tips his hat to the woman and moves along to his drill station. Briefly a vision of her swims before him, in her place is a Moriche Palm. It sways in rhythm to earth. He begins to sing to himself, a sonorous song of life. He continues on his way stopping to assist an elderly woman with a cane. She carries the love and wisdom of many years, as well as the pain of her arthritis.

The lights and sounds of people losing money and having a good time fill this place. If you stand in one place long enough, a waiter will come and direct you to a seat.

People lounge around wearing swimsuits and sipping drinks from the bar positioned nearby. Even though they have signs saying you need to be over 21 to drink ... you really don't.

Often filled with drunk in need of a hangover and people who hurt themselves in the gym, this place is rarely filled with people that actually are injured. Still, the shelves have the supplies needed to care for most simple injuries.

Rose colored carpets and the smell of fresh flowers; this place is quieter than the rest of the ship, but if you listen you can hear people talking in the rooms nearby.

The place for the drunk and disorderly, this room is almost always empty. A small desk sits so it can see in each of the five holding cells and a grumpy guard sits playing solitaire.

The walls of this area are made entirely of reinforced glass. Along the top of the glass are what look like metal shutters. The room is kept very dark, the only illumination coming from the spotlights outside the glass; used to see deep into the waters.

Heavy weights and machines litter this large room. The few people that are here are working hard on their workout. Its very quiet here, and smells of sweat and hard work.
