Introduction
Millions awake from their sleep to a boring world filled with false news, celebrity marriage, televised sports and countless other distractions and when the time comes for the sun to set and the moon to rise many find comfort and safety in their beds completely oblivious to fact that by night a vicious war is waged by ancient packs of werewolf's who fight to protect their wealth, pride, land, but most importantly their pack. Every 100 years a secret society of lycans known only as "The Covenant" purge the world of werewolf clans by hunting down and killing every member of the pack in order to maintain a healthy Human/werewolf ratio. By order of The Covenant, every pack must offer a pure blood female werewolf every 100 years in order to attain immunity from "The purge".

The salty ocean breeze swept through the night as the crescent moon shown across the waves of the pacific. Not a single soul could be seen on the brightly lit streets tonight except for Seth who slowly paced down the cobble stone street absent of cars with his hand tucked deep in his pockets and his pea coat collar flipped up to cover his neck.
"Damnit it's cold tonight, and where the hell is that runt i gave him the simplest job and he still hasn't come back. Maybe the little shit got himself arrested... or even worse eaten." Seth shook his head at the thought when suddenly he heard someone screaming for their life!
It was Joseph the high school quarterback whom Seth entrusted with small jobs that required human interaction. His screams resonated through the town presumably waking everyone from their slumbers.
Seth burst into a full sprint down the street removing an article of clothing with each step closer to the screams before finally shedding his human skin and transforming into his Lycan form. Now running on all fours he was able to reach the alley from which the screams originated, and the stench of death flooded His snout.
He was just in time to see three half-blood adolescent werewolves standing over Joseph's mutilated corpse .Taking in the sight Seth's eyes began to fill with rage as he snarled showing his long vicious canines before finally charging in and tackling one of the adolescent werewolves. With one swift bite to the neck the young werewolf's life was over and terrified at the sight of Seth's lycan physique the other two began to flee. One of the young wolves attempted to climb the walls of the alley but ultimately failed due to Seth's hold on his hind leg. "Get back here!!" he roared and with one swift and powerful swing Seth slammed the wolves body against the brick of the opposite wall crippling the young lycan but not quite killing him . "Two down one to go" He though to himself as he searched the alley for the remaining wolf, but to his dismay he had escaped into the night.
Now standing over the crippled half blood, who had now turned back into his human form due to the excruciating pain he was enduring Seth began to demanded answers "Who sent you!.. What pack are you from! What are you here for!" The question came with no answers and with the halfblooded dieing breath he murmured one thing "The Purge is upon us"
Seth had now returned to his human form and was franticly searching though the Joseph's bag in the hopes that what he was searching for was still there, and to his relief it was. He pulled out a pendant necklace along with a card addressed to a Scarlet R. King. and fled the area as police sirens began to approach.
The sun was finally rising and began to show though Scarlets window which she had originally closed that night. As the light from the sun crept along the walls it found its way to her dresser and sitting along the corner of the dresser laid the pendant and the card which simply read "Happy Birthday"

Scarlett opened her eyes slowly, looking about her. Then smiled. She was seventeen. An adult. Finally. The most special of all the birthdays she has had and will ever have. She yawned, stretched and sat up in her bed. It was then that she noticed the card and pendant on dressing table. Excitedly she jumped out of bed and went to the dresser. The necklace was a silver, oval locket dotted with a few red jewels. It was beautiful. She put it around her neck and opened the card that sat by it. Only one person could be so to the point on a card and have such a well picked out gift. Seth. An amazing start to the day.

The midday sun beamed through the cloudless sky and finally managed to break throughout the dark curtains that hung in Seth's master bedroom. shining a sliver of light onto his face.
"Ugh go away" he mumbled in his sleep. Never having been much of a "day" person Seth attempted to sleep as much of the day away as possible. While most people enjoyed the sun he just thought of it has nothing more than an irritant to his sensitive eyes, but none the less when it did finally pierce the veil of his curtain he knew it was time to rise and begin his day.
Rolling out of bed shirtless in his pajama pants was nothing new for Seth, it was simply just apart of his routine. Next he slowly dragged his feet to his bathroom and began brushing his teeth which even though he was in human form still remained longer and sharper than most humans but this was only noticeable within kissing distance. After his brush and rinse Seth made his way to his down stairs where he could hear the TV and the sound of Scarlet's foot steps.
"Don't you have school or something" He said to her as he entered the kitchen of their two bedroom apartment and went straight to the refrigerator. He closed the door of the frig holding a carton of milk in one hand four eggs in the other and balancing a pack of bacon on his forearm.
He glanced at the Tv's head line as it read "BOY CAUGHT IN YET ANOTHER ANIMAL ATTACK ALL SCHOOLS CLOSED FOR INVESTIGATION."I guess not he said answering his own question..." Seth had the whole night to get over the young boys death but then again death wasn't anything new to him so it didn't affect him as much. "How about I cook us some breakfast food, You hungry?" he said after after taking a swig from the milk carton. and turning on the stove.

She knew how lucky she was to have Seth. Most kids just get dumped in a care home but she had a awesome big brother and father rolled into one.
She couldn't help but think about the poor guy who was killed. It was only a few days ago he was taking his girlfriend to the school prom. Too many killings were happening.

Seth now had bacon and eggs cooking on the stove as he looked back at the Birthday girl "You've already got a castle.." he pointed around the apartment, "...and a knight/cook" he said giving a slight smile while placing her breakfast on the counter in front of her. "and you're welcome, that was a gift from an old friend of mine, Mercedes the Princess of Austrias maybe you've heard of her in your world history class."
"That's true." She said returning his smile after him mentioning her castle and knight.
She recognised the name of the princess but couldn't pin down how or why. "Vaguely..." She said tucking into her breakfast. "I'm probably going to go over to Adrian's since there's no school, is that okay?"

Seth laughed as he looked at the puzzled look on Scarlet's face "Eh she wasn't all that important didn't do anything but nag me about how her dresses didn't fit right or which ruby encrusted tiara she should wear, she was actually quite annoying and now that I think about it I'm glad she ran off with the Prince Carlos guy ." he said before taking a few bites and another swig from the milk carton.

He smiled at her again this time almost mocking her age in comparison to his own. "Just be home before the sun goes down, and I mean that."

Her eyebrows raised at his curfew. "Oh come on. It gets dark at like 6 in the evening. I'm not a baby anymore. I'll make sure I'm back before twelve. She looked back down at her plate.

Shortly after Scarlet had left the house Seth followed her from a distance far enough that she couldn't see him but close enough that he could help her if needed. When she arrived to Adrian's house he decided to give her some privacy and went about his own business.
Hours passed and it was time was almost time for the sun to set, so Seth returned to Adrian's house and waited on a nearby roof top. she left a little after the sun had set but the is what he expected and the reason he decided to follow her. He watched as she walked down the streets and eventually back into their apartment.
Relieved that scarlet was home and safe Seth now focused on his scouting the area for rival pack members. The months leading up to yesterday had been very uneventful as far trespassing packs were concerned but when three rival pack member show up unannounced that requires some attention.
Searching the city's surrounding forest in lycan form wasn't the best choice, considering all of the forest patrol men that are were looking for the wild animal that was terrorizing the city but it was quickest way to cover ground so he decided to transform anyway. Seth spent the whole night searching through the forest and avoiding the police search parties but still found no evidence of a rival pack in the area. "Maybe I scared them off" He thought as he began making his way back to the city.
Suddenly a dark shadow raced past Seth. He turned and growled but saw no one. "I know I saw something" he thought to himself as he began to lower his guard His ears picked up the sound of a twig breaking behind him. He turned around just in time to catch at the lunging large brown furred lycan and throw him of using his hind legs. "Who are you and why are you here" Seth said as he snarled through his teeth. The lycan he was facing was not a halfblooded nor did he appear young. the scar and patchers in his fur indicated that of a scout wolf. (someone who is sent by a pack to deliver a message or test a rivals pack's fighting abilities) "Speak! before I end you life." Seth demanded as the two wolves circled each other. "We're not here for you we're here for the pure blood, I've been sent to deliver you this message... If you deliver her to us and you may join our pack and share immunity from the purge" the lycan said in response. "Or I can rip your throat out and continue on with my marry day" Seth said in all seriousness. The lycan smirked showing his long canine teeth, he was a veteran wolf by the looks of it and Seth knew he wouldn't be nearly as easy as the half blood acolytes he fought the other day.
After a second or two more of starring each other down and pacing in circles the brown furred lycan charged at Seth and the two locked arms in a fierce struggle for power. Seth managed to shift his weight and throw his opponent into a nearby forest tree almost snapping the hundred foot tall tree trunk in two but that failed to slow down his lycan enemy, he quickly shot up and raced back on all fours lunging at the last second to throw a fury of slashes with his claws at Seth. One of the swipes landed creating a gash of crimson across his chest. Seth shook of the blow as a measly flesh wound and continued to fight full strength, he charged at his opponent sinking his shoulder into his abdomen and pushed him back into the same tree that he had thrown him into before. As the enemy lycan struggled to gain his breath from the force of Seth's massive lycan body being thrust into his stomach, Seth returned a few of his own claw swipes, all of which connected with the enemies face and torso leaving massive gashes and the brown furred lycan in extreme pain. In the lycan's final attempt to howl for help Seth spotted his opportunity and delivered the killing claw strike which tore through his opponents throat and killed him instantly.
All the noise from the fight had drown the forest patrol to Seth's vicinity, so he decided to flee back to the city and leave the corpse of his opponent against the tree for them to find which would hopefully through them off his trail.

As he entered through the front door he hung up his coat and kicked off his boots (which he had taken off and hidden before his transformation) and walked in to check on Scarlet. "Rose... you home?" he called as if he didn't know the answer.

"It's a little more than a scratch! Seth stop lying to me, you're so god damn secretive." She yelled, loosing her temper as always. He always did this. Always squirmed away from telling the truth.
Seth thought Scarlet was adorable when she lost her temper it reminded him of when she was growing up and would hold her breath to get what she wanted, but now at the height of her maturity he couldn't help but see her as the beautiful young women she had become "Fine.. I ran into a little trouble while I was out, but I took care of it, Im alright now, I'm home" as he finished with a slight smile his wounds started to close on their own leaving only a faint scar on his chest. "See all better" he said as he gently grabbed her hand and put it to his torso

Her fingers gently traced over his scar, a slight frown on her face. She then looked up at him. "Don't you ever leave me, okay?" She said, her voice shaking slightly. And by that she's meant he couldn't die. She would have no one if he ever went.
Seth gave scarlet a comforting smile and brought her in for a hug "Ive lived for over 120 years darling I don't plan on going anywhere or dying any time soon"
He looked down at her still smiling and then let go to walk over to the television picking up the bowl of popcorn and placing it on his lap.

Seth grabbed the cordless phone that lay in front of them and dialed the font desk of the apartment building "Hey David its Seth look I know its late but... mhmm yea if you could please send it up right that would be great, alright see you soon, thanks" Scarlet gave Seth a look of confusion and he attempted to pay it no mind.
Moments later there was a knock on the door of their apartment, Seth got up and opened the door for the short Canadian desk worker. David rolled in a tray with a birthday cake and sparklers and began to sing with Seth "Happy birthday to you, Happy birth day took you, Happy birthday dear...." at this point David said scarlet while Seth called her Rose and the two looked at each other awkwardly having messed up the song but they continued anyway and finished the chorus.

Her eyes widened in delight at the cake and she couldn't help but laugh when they started singing. When they finished she gave a little clap. "Awww thanks guys!" She laughed after the sparklers had gone out. "Best birthday ever."
"Awww thanks guys! Best birthday ever." hearing her say that made Seth happy and feel as if he accomplished his goal. "David would you like to stay for cake" he asked but David graciously declined and returned to the front desk.
The two sat and enjoyed the cake together on the couch with Seth's arm embracing Scarlet and her snuggled close to his torso. The night went by slow from this point with all the jokes and laughter that came with the late night giggles, but soon after all the cake was gone Seth fell asleep, his arm still embracing her.

Scarlett fell asleep against his chest not long after him.
She woke up at about eleven, he head still on his torso. She wasn't sure if he was awake so she didn't move but got the remote from beside her and switched on the TV, making sure it was quiet.

At the sound of the TV turning on Seth's ears twitched waking him a little but after noticing it was nothing to be concerned about he placed his hand over his eyes continued to sleep.

After about half an hour of watching TV she shifted slightly and looked up at him. "Wakey wakey. God you sleep so much." She laughed quietly.
"huh? is the sun gone" he mumbled peeking through his fingers sleepily. Noticing it wasn't he cursed and reached into his pockets "Rose we need groceries here's $300 and the keys to to the truck, after you put the groceries in the back please don't hit the grocery cart again." He smiled still covering his eyes from the sun and adjusted his head to get into a more comfortable sleeping position.
