Former army soldier turned lab guinea pig due to an unfortunate case of Schizophrenia.
Before any of the circumstances leading to her serving as a convict for the Major, Katrina was a hard working and loyal member of the Federation's Army who got along well with her unit and had an excellent sense of humor. She was also quite serious about her job, a trait that has transcended the madness. Now, with a broken mind and random bouts of Schizophrenia popping up, Katrina's former sense of humor rarely comes out, and she can do little more than follow orders, which she does very well from military superiors. Usually, she is incapable of complex thought or making decisions, but she is combat trained and can follow direct orders.

Katrina Watkins was born a poor orphan forced into labor camps on an obscure mining planet that was not yet a part of the Federation. She worked in these camps, mining minerals and ore, until she was twelve, and their planet was taken over by the Federation. Conditions on the planet did improve with the military presence of the Federation (as the planet was taken over by force), and perhaps tactfully, child labor in the mines were permanently ended. Whether the Federation's intention or not, Katrina (like virtually every other child from the pre-Federation days) joined the Federation army as soon as they were able. Katrina, like the other children of the planet the Federation named Raygon K, were poorly educated, but made up for it in devotion to the Federation and willingness to learn.
Katrina's life could have been simply that of an uneventful military career, if not for the cruel twist of fate she was dealt roughly a year and a half ago. She and the rest of her unit, were on a transport vessel to a planet base on one of the planets that would become a red zone conflict area with the Tarnakians. Before arrival, their vessel was attacked by a Tarnakian raiding ship; Katrina, though badly injured, was the only survivor rescued from the ship by rescue forces. After surgery, Katrina was questioned about the aliens (as there was tremendous need for information about them), but traumatized and still slightly in shock, she hadn’t been able to provide much.
Immediately after recovery, Katrina had been put into another unit on a secure base, but soon she started to have symptoms of Schizophrenia. She started having dilutions about the Tarnakians that continued to worsen until she was no longer able to discern reality from fiction, and ended up killing two other soldiers from her unit during training. Instead of Court Marshal, Katrina was taken to a military hospital where she was forced to undertake drug trials by Dr. Gerard Fisher for several months, and questioning about the Tarnakian attack continued. This continued for several months until it was apparent that her mind was broken, and that there was nothing more to be learned about the Tarnakians from her. Dr. Fisher had her transferred from there to Sparkal V so that he could keep an eye on her, and watch for any long term effects from his experimental drugs, not all of which were for her mind.
