a character in “The Magic Hunters of Valderia”, as played by Sir Fluffington

Description

"What's the worst that could happen?" - Hugo Tyrus, ten seconds before he was shot in the arm by a small child

Name: Hugo Tyrus
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Race: Teker

Physical Description: Hugo is a well built man that is about 6'2" and weighs about 220 pounds. He has long dark brown hair that he keeps in a ponytail. Hugo wears loose fitting clothing and a simple fireproof trench coat with large pockets and a stab resistant liner. The Coat bears the patch of the 76th Holbrook Psionics Division. Hugo wears a leather gun harness that has two holsters and ammunition for each weapon underneath the coat. He also wears dark green cargo pants, a white t-shirt, and black combat boots.

Skin Color: Deep Tan
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Green

Occupation: Hunt Master for the GMHO

Bio: Hugo never knew his parents, as they left him in the orphanarium and disappeared. He never really cared why they did it, but as a child the question of why they abandoned him crossed his mind every so often, though he was never able to figure it out. Hugo despised the orphanarium, and often looked for alternative ways out of the brown stone building to which he referred to as hell. But as fate would have it, a way out presented itself to him. Every year, the city guards and the 76th Holbrook Psionics Division would gather all the children of the age of 7 and test them for ability to use Psionic Magic. The children who tested positive would be taken from their families and placed under custody of the City Guard and the Division. Hugo and six others tested positive that day. The others cried and wished that this never happened, but Hugo was just fine, in fact he couldn’t have been better.

Hugo showed promise early on; with hard work, he was able to greatly surpass his peers in the field of psionics. At the age of 14, Hugo was selected as a candidate for the familiar connection program. Familiars are strange magical creatures that are unique to the southern coasts of Valderia. They are known for their ability to take the shape of any animal within their size range as well as their high intelligence. In exchange for the ability to use telepathy, Hugo was able to successfully establish a psionic link with his familiar, who is known as Felix. Felix can take the shape of small mammalian creatures; his favorite and most frequently used form is a ginger tom cat. Felix and Hugo have a strong connection and a close relationship.

By the age of 18, Hugo became one of the chief psionics instructors for the 76th division. Hugo was a respected instructor among his colleagues, but most new cadets questioned his authority due to his strange behavior. Hugo was later promoted to a minor intelligence officer and finally retired from his military career at the age of 25. He never stated his reasons to his comrades, but Hugo felt that he need something more in his life and that he had to find that something. With Felix by his side, Hugo left Holbrook in search of that something more and he found it in the form of the GMHO.

Hugo was able to join up with a small hunting party that was recruiting passing treasure seekers and bounty hunters. The hunting party met an unfortunate and mysterious end. Hugo, Felix and his newly acquired friend Brutus were the only survivors, and not one of them will ever speak of what transpired on that bloody day. Brutus and Hugo later joined another hunting party that ended with the successful elimination of a fearsome three star bounty. Hugo and Brutus parted ways, but remained in contact with each other. Hugo went on to participate in various hunting parties and was eventually recruited as a full time Hunting Master by the GMHO.

Home Country: The United Teker States
Hometown: Holbrook

Personality: Hugo is a bit strange, and that’s putting it lightly. He’s loud, outspoken, occasionally irresponsible, energetic, and erratic. But when things get serious, so does Hugo. He can be difficult to get to know due to his strange behavior, but if you can get past that you can find an excellent friend. Hugo is kind and can easily empathize with others. He also has a dark sense of humor and he enjoys puns.

Felix is level headed and calm. In a way he acts as a voice of reason and common sense for Hugo. Felix is incredibly intelligent and he completed many feats such as teaching himself to read. Felix hates small children because they’re loud, obnoxious and they don’t know how to pet a cat.

Likes: Felix, Magic Hunting, His Job, Smoking Tobacco, Practicing Psionics, Money, Puns

Dislikes: Most Rich and Posh People, The Word Posh, Getting Shot, Getting Stabbed, Small Dogs, Cultists, Radio Propaganda

Skills and Abilities:

Non Combat Skills:

Information Specialist: Hugo is a skilled informational specialist. Gathering information is child’s play to Hugo, since he is a skilled interrogator and he can spot a lie with ease.

Wilderness Survival: Hugo has a vast knowledge in the field of wilderness survival and can live off the land for months if needed.

Leadership:

Felix: Felix has the ability to detect if people have magical abilities, but he has a harder time figuring out what type of magic they use. He usually will relay this information to Hugo. Felix also has the ability to shapeshift into the form of other small mammals, but he prefers his cat form.

Combat Skills:

Hand to Hand Combat: Hugo is an adept combatant who fights dirty. For Hugo, anything is fair game, and with the assistance of his psionic abilities he can bring most opponents to their knees.

Swordsmanship: Hugo is a skilled blades-men that can quickly analyze a fight and act accordingly. By using feints and counters, Hugo can quickly gain the upper hand.

Equipment & Weapons:
Gear- Hugo keeps most of his stuff in a large tan duffle bag. He keeps basic provisions in it such as rations and water as well as a few maps, five mana canisters, a small maintenance kit for his weapons, a box of 20 high velocity pistol rounds, and a small radio receiver. Hugo also keeps a pocket watch, a box of cigarettes, a bronze lighter, a fake hand grenade, and a small notebook in his trench coat pockets.

The Punisher- The Punisher is a six shot revolver with a 9” barrel and a solid oak handle. The Punisher is designed to fire high velocity and explosive pistol rounds. The Punisher was a gift to Hugo from his mentor from Psionics training program. Hugo keeps the revolver in his left holster.

Ezekiel- Ezekiel is a flare gun that has been modified into a single shot grenade launcher. It has a 5” long barrel, and the gun itself is entirely made of steel. Hugo keeps it in his right holster.

The Singing Blade- A singing blade is a rare and expensive sword that is made of a unique adamant-steel alloy. The alloy is highly durable at high temperatures and is known to vibrate at high frequencies when heated, hence the name singing blade. The sword is kept in a rectangular heating device that acts as the blade’s sheath. The heating device runs on canisters of mana and will usually take up a 500 ml tube with each time the blade heats up. Due to safety reasons, the sword cannot be removed until it is done heating. Depending on the target heat, the process could take anywhere from one to eight minutes. The blades themselves have to be custom made for the user, since singing blades are designed to only recognize the magical frequency of one user; this prevents others from using a singing blade against its owner. Singing blades vary in length based on the user; Hugo’s blade is about 2’4”. Hugo keeps the sheathed blade in his duffel bag.

Magic: Hugo is an master psionics user. He specializes in the field of mental projection and telekinesis. In order to prevent mental decay that is associated with psionic strain, Hugo constantly trains throughout the day with small and frequent exercises such as molding his tobacco smoke with telekinesis.

Mental Projection- Mental projection is Hugo’s primary specialization. Hugo has the ability to create psionic shields that he uses to defend himself and others. The shields are highly durable and can deflect most blows and projectiles, but the more damage the shields take, the harder they are to maintain. Hugo can project shields within a six foot radius, but the farther away the shield is from Hugo, the weaker it is. He also uses mental projection to increase the power of his physical strikes in hand to hand combat.

Telekinesis- Hugo is a skilled user of telekinesis, but he is much stronger with Mental Projection. He primarily uses it to levitate objects. Hugo also uses telekinesis to manipulate objects.

Psionic Connection- Hugo has a psionic connection with his familiar, Felix. The connection allows the two to communicate freely through telepathy. But the connection also prevents Hugo from using any other form of telepathy.

So begins...

"... And we will RISE! We shall rise above the Solarian thieves who robbed us of our homeland! The scoundrels, the monsters, they dare claim that they were in the right. They have the audacity to claim that their cause was holy, that it was in the name of their goddess. But how can the slaughter of millions be considered Holy? What kind of god calls for such atrocities to be committed? They claim that the light is illuminating that the light shall make them see all, but they forget what the light truly does. It, BLINDS!" Over the radio Hugo could hear the crowd cheer and applaud the speaker, "It deprives you of your ability to see, to see the atrocities that you have committed upon your brethren. They can no longer call themselves a tribe of humanity for they shown that they are truly lower than that. They are vermin! And like Vermin they deserve to be-"

Hugo turned off the radio, he didn't have the patience to let the speech finish. Felix shifted from his curled position and opened one eye, "Why did you turn it off? I was listening to that." Hugo glared at Felix who gave him a small smile. "How can you even stand it. It's absolutely disgusting." Felix stretched himself out and then sat up, "Well blubbering idiots spewing out hateful messages make wonderful sleep aids." Hugo rolled his eyes, "I'm surprised we can get that station so far from Ulteris, we're quite the distance from it." " And with each passing second we get farther and farther away. I wouldn't be surprised if they can get that station in the Solarian Capital, for crying out loud they turned the spire into a gigantic radio transmitter." From the train car window Hugo could see the great white walls of Kergstien, Hugo stood up and pulled down the duffel bag that was elevated above the seat. "Hypothetically, lets say by some miracle we gather a competent party that fulfills his condition. Do you really think he's just going to give you the map?" Hugo smiled as he slung the bag over his shoulder, "It's worth a shot isn't it?" Felix shook his head and jumped up onto Hugo's shoulder. "Well let's get this over with."

The streets bustled with activity as the sun shone down on the fair. Felix's eyes and tail nervously darted back and forth as Hugo quickly looked over the registration forms and contracts. Felix began to bat Hugo's face and glared at him, "Hey Hugo, I just realized something." "What is it Felix?" "Well it dawned upon my furry face that their are too many people in the city today and we do not have a method for gathering the recruits we need." "Oh I have a plan and a method. We have a booth located in the grand square, I also had some notices posted around some of the recruitment offices in the Solarian Empire." Felix gave a small a smile "Hmm, maybe this won't end in disaster after all."

"Have I ever mentioned that absolutely despise children."
Hugo glanced at his companion who was glaring intensely at a clown across the square who was entertaining a small swarm of children. "You know something Hugo, right now we're on the same damned level as that clown right over there. That's right we're on the same level as an oaf who makes a living by being the laughing stock of everyone else." Hugo raised an eyebrow at his cat shaped familiar, "I don't think so, at the end of the day we make more mo-" "KITTY CAT!" Felix quickly ruffled himself up as he desperately tried to hide from the rapidly approaching child shaped menace. "OH SHIT." The child was quickly intercepted by a watchful parent and the immediate threat disappeared. "Hugo are we trying to recruit small lice infested children." "I'm sure someone will show up." "I swear by the eight Life Walkers' souls, if we don't get any possible candidates in the next 10 minutes I am going to flip your shit and tear you a new one." "Hey calm down Felix, I'm sure someone that we can recruit will show up soon." "For your own sake I hope so."

The children were swarming the dancing oaf at a faster rate. He must have used magic, reasoned Felix, who stared harder. No, balloons. Something had to be done, "Hey Hugo." "What." "100 Doubels says I can make that clown look like a total jerk face with out moving from this spot." Hugo scratched his chin and then glared at Felix, "Counter wager, how 'bout you don't." Felix pretended to consider the counter wager, "Alright, how about a counter counter wager, How 'bout I do, or I will be turning on my favorite sleeping aid." Hugo's eyes widened, "You won't dare put him on in deep Solarian lands, if you dare try to turn that radio on I will strangle you." Felix tilted his head "Oh contrare, and on top of which you're talking to me aloud." Hugo quickly shut his mouth and began to look forwards blankly. Felix smiled a little and quickly readjusted his position. In a flash Felix quickly shifted into a Southern Shooting Porcupine and fired one quill into the mass of ballons. Felix quickly shifted back into his cat form and watched as the children, he hated so much, burst into tears. "Felix you are a gigantic jerkface."

<><><><><><><><><><>
Summer Solstice Festival was here again. The one day a year that the heavenly globe known as the Sun hangs high in the sky for the majority of the day, it's a well known festival day. In Kergstein, the festival is a really big deal, as most tourists make a pseudo-pilgramage there each year, which provides a huge boost to the local economy. In the Town Square, festivities were underway and in full swing, with revelers and merchants celebrating Sele's grace with song and dance. Near the middle of the square, a large group of children clustered around a statue, scribbling on it with chalk and laughing merrily.

The statue was of a smiling matron, garbed in impressive stone plate-armor and seated on the edge of the fountain. She was depicted with her head in one palm, eyes closed and resting her elbow on her knee, feet crossed. The most visually striking feature of the statue was the hair, which seemed to be a wild cascade of pure gold thread spilling about the shoulders and down its back. Most of the plates on its armor were covered in drawings, depicting the Sun, Sele, and various aspects of nature. Many of the children were talking to the statue, telling it about whatever fanciful ideas popped into their heads. Suddenly, a child came running up to the statue, sobbing and holding a popped balloon.

Very slowly, a change fell upon the statue. Its eyes slowly opened, searching for the source of distress. The child held his popped balloon up for the statues inspection, tears running down his reddening face. The statue breathed in, the sound audible for several meters.

"My! What has befallen you, little one?" A booming voice issued forth from the mouth of the now awoken Kiganjo, deep yet womanly. Kiska reached down, scooping the child up with one arm and cradled him in the crook of her elbow. The rest of the children paid him no mind, instead darting off to participate in the maypole or cause havoc in the crowds. Pointing one grubby hand in the direction of the balloon merchant/clown, he whined some unintelligible gibberish and waved the popped balloon in the air, futily trying to get it to float again. Nodding in understanding, Kiska gained her feet, sending a light cloud of chalk dust into the air around her.

Everyone in the immediate area backed up, some in fear, and some calmly. Those that lived in the town were of course used to Kiska being around by now, but the tourists for the most part had never seen an elemental before, and certainly not any living being of Kiska's size. She began to sluggishly plod over to the Fool, giving him ample time to notice her and quickly scramble for another balloon. By the time she reached him, the man was doubled over, winded but holding an elaborate balloon lion out for Kiska's approval. She drew in another breath, causing many of the balloons to drift slightly closer to her.
"My thanks, Fool. Tis a grand creation." She gave him a warm smile, passing the lion to the child in her arm and turned to go back to her spot on the lip of the fountain.
<><><><><><><><><><>

"Hey Hugo, did you see that too?" "What the moving statue?" "So I'm not crazy." "You're goddamned lucky that you're a shapeshifter." Hugo stood up, "Hey Felix you think she is affiliated with GMHO." Felix stared at Hugo and then suddenly realized what he was going to do. "Whoa buddy we don't have to go to far. I actually would like to keep my skin." Hugo rolled his eyes, "Well I thought it would be a good idea to have an elemental on our side, and thank you for the suggestion." Hugo stood out of his chair and began walking to the elemental, "Wait! Please don't! I won't threaten to turn on the radio again! Please stop." Hugo ignored Felix and stood next to the elemental, Felix motioned for him to stop and Hugo just smiled and waved. "So did you know that there is such a thing as a shapeshifting animal who hates children?" "You son of a gun."

<><><><><><><><><><>
Turning in surprise, the elemental examined the newcomer with suspicion and moved her arms around her charge defensively. Frowning, Kiska inhaled slowly.

"What are you implying? Be you this shapeshifter? I warn you, I am not to be trifled with." She swiveled her torso a bit, putting her shoulder in between Hugo and the child in her arms. Bending her knees slightly, Kiska prepared to snap the human in two with a kick if he proved to be dangerous.
<><><><><><><><><><>

Felix glared at Hugo and Hugo smiled back. Felix quickly darted behind the table and tossed up the radio onto the top of the table. Felix glared at Hugo with his paw above the on button and Hugo glared back. "Your move." "It seems we have an impass." "So we do." "Felix I will shoot that damned radio and you will owe me a new radio." Hugo turned his head to the elemental. "Sorry thats my comrade, he's a gigantic jerkface, and he hates," Felix raised his paw over the on button. "children." Felix's eyes widened as he went for the button. With a quick motion Hugo drew out The Punisher and fired three rounds into the radio, "AND NOW YOU OWE ME A NEW RADIO YOU JERKFACE!" Hugo extended his hand to the elemental, "The name's Hugo, care to become a magic hunter?"

<><><><><><><><><><>
Humans never ceased to astound her. Not only was this one talking to a cat as if the beast could understand him, but he also appeared to be slightly unhinged mentally. Kiska edged away from him a bit, still glaring suspiciously.

"You humans and your chaos. I know not what a Magic Hunter is, but I know that you need take your leave of this place," she warned. Kiska deposited the child in the care of his parents, who had stopped by to see what all the fuss was about. Upon hearing the words Magic Hunter, they began to titter with excitement.

"You're joining the Magic Hunters, Kiska? That's wonderful news! Maybe when you're all rich and famous you can come back here and share some with us, eh?" The couple turned to their friends, spreading the good news that their resident elemental was joining the Magic Hunters to bring them all great wealth and items of wonder.
Immediately confused and more than a little frustrated, Kiska tried to dissuade the townsfolk, but they wouldn't hear any of it. Several children came by to wish her safe travels, eyes filled to the brim with tears. Kiska turned to Hugo, an upset expression dominating her face.

"You snake! You had this planned from the beginning, did you not?" Crossing her arms over her chestplate, Kiska sighed heavily, rustling Hugo's coat. "Very well, if only to ensure you do not cause harm to my children with your insanity, I will escort you."
<><><><><><><><><><>

Hugo gave the elemental a big grin, "Pish Pish, that would suggest I plan things, I don't often plan things. Yeah, and I'm sorry if I frightened the children, but hey kids love guns," Hugo rubbed his right arm and cringed, "And they love firing them into people, apparently, who woulda thunk." Hugo looked over to the table and noticed that it lacked the "Magic Hunters Recruitment Drive" sign. "Oh I have an idea! Why don't you help me recruit more people, and I promise I will not shoot anymore radios." Hugo quickly ran to the back of the table and pulled out the sign that said in messy handwriting "Super Awesome Magic Hunters Recruitment." "So you wanna help?"

<><><><><><><><><><>
Kiska scowled intensely at Hugo, unsure of whether or not to kick the man in half and save herself the trouble later or humor him out of her love for all races. Finally, her maternal instincts won out, and she held out her hand for the sign, though she deigned not to say anything. Soon, Kiska found herself by Hugo's table, holding his sign into the air and waving at people, back into her normal good mood. Many stopped by just to chat with them, wishing Kiska good luck and fortune or questioning Hugo about his plans for the future.

The puppets whirled around in front of Thomas as he continued to guide them with nothing but his gestures, a huge smile on his face. It was times like this, where he was devoting all his thoughts and energy to his Fan Service, when he felt most happy, because he could forget about all the things he didn't want to about while he was doing so. No need to worry about his mission or its consequences, all he needed to do was keep his fans happy and laughing, as a number of younger fans approached.

From a tree, Michael was watching his brother's performance while scanning the area. Seeing his brother so happy made the pink-haired boy feel better as well, because just as Thomas had been worrying about how Michael would cope, Michael had been worrying about Thomas for the same reason. Of course, Michael only could spare a few seconds to look at Thomas' show, because he had to return to his own duty and keep gazing out across the people in the square.

Suddenly, there was the sound of gunshots, startling both brothers and most of Thomas' fans, and they all looked in one direction to see a crazy man--Teker, it seemed--shouting at his cat about how his pet now owed him a radio. "What in tarnation...?!" Michael spun around in that direction and nearly caused himself to fall out of the tree in the process, but he managed to catch a branch just in time. Lifting himself back into position, he raised his right hand, and the pink gem upon the bracelet on his wrist flashed.

At the same time, Michael's left eye flashed, changing to a bright orange color. Narrowing his eyes, he looked in the direction of that man, and was immediately taken aback. "That man...! His magic signature is strong!" he murmured to himself. But his eyes also fixated on the "statue" of a woman standing next to him, holding a poorly-written sign advertising a magic-hunting guild, for its magic signature was also quite notable. Was it actually a statue? He had to go check. Jumping down from the tree, he passed a hand over his left eye, which reverted to its original emerald green color, and started walking towards the booth.

Thomas, for his part, was extremely annoyed when his fans were also gaping at the sight of the man. "Goddammit, there goes my Fan Service," he muttered, before doing his best to try and attract the fans' attention again.

Maleki

Maleki had already made his way through a handful of stall, some selling trinkets and goods while other sold food, drinks and sweets. The smells of all the food had pulled at him and he could not help but have a bit, he had to admit that the food was rather good for human fare. The crowd flowed around him and the stalls, most people moving at a far quicker pace then he himself was. When it came to his job hunt he had so far had little luck, other than an apple merchant looking for some manual labor, nothing really caught his attention as a good option. The square was full of humans of all sizes, both little and big, most of them engaging in the celebrations of whatever this festival was about. At least Maleki hoped that it was a festival, it seemed insane for any group to have a celebration like this more than a few times a year. You had children running left and right, merchants shouting towards people about the good they were selling, a couple fools entertaining people. A rather large group of people were even gathered around a man playing with what looked like dolls. Maleki even bothered to stop by for a moment, watching as the dolls danced around under the control of a yellow haired human, judging from the smile on the man’s face he was enjoying both the attention he was receiving as well as the performance he was giving. He moved on after a moment though, he enjoyed a good show himself but he wanted to see what he could find.

The sound of gunshots broke through the crowd, a sound that was all too familiar to Maleki. Instinctively his hand moved towards his blade on his back, pulling it slightly from its scabbard as his eyes scanned the crowd, looking for the source of the sound. He had been on high alert since going on the run, as such the sounds of violence immediately put him on edge. What he saw though put him quickly at ease, instead of an opponent that he would need to fight he simply saw a human having discharged his weapon into some sort of machine. What did catch his attention the most though was the fact that the man was talking, or rather yelling, towards a rather large stone woman. Some variant of earth elemental in all likely hood, Maleki had run into a pair of who had left an impression, on his backside, in the shape of a boot. His uncle had even lectured him on the nature of elementals a few times, well to be specific the lectures were more his uncle talking about all the different varieties of elementals that he had run into before.

After a moment Maleki began moving again, the sight of a troll with a partially drawn weapon staring intently towards the other side of the square had caused a number of people to take notice, with a grunt he released his blade and letting it slide back into its sheath as he began walking again. It was only a few moment later that the celebrations picked back up in full again, the slight confusion quickly vanishing as people got back to what they were doing. Maleki made his way through the crowd, stopping at one or two more stalls before making his way towards the gun shooting human and earth elemental. At this point the statue was holding a sign advertising some sort of hunting group, the almost barbaric scrawl on it made it rather difficult to read. The idea of a hunt was rather appealing to him.

It took him a few moment to wade his way through the crowd before he got to the booth, from this distance he could better make out the words on the sign, a magic hunting party sounded rather interesting. From what he knew they were able to make rather large amounts of money and more importantly they were kept on the move most of the time which sounded rather good to Maleki since he wanted to avoid staying in one place. He studied the two people at the booth. The earth elemental was obviously female, large and stone-like which had been rather obvious even from the other side of the square, she was waving towards people which seemed rather odd for someone of such great size, yet her stone flesh moved easily through the motions. The human was rather odd himself, he wore his black hair and a ponytail in addition to a rather plain looking trench coat except for the long patch that seemed to mark some sort of organization. The man seemed like the sort who was a rater old campaigner, the type of person who instead of becoming hard and powerful had become complacent and easy going. Maleki could not help but scowl a little at it, he did not seem like the type of person who would make for a good employer, but it still seemed like a better option than the apple merchant. Moving in front of the he approached the booth, walking forward he placed his hand on the counter before the man, his eyes surveying the place slowly as he spoke. “What work do you have bossman?”

Just a little bit further... Spotface tickled the clasp of the necklace again, angling ever so slightly, so that the once the thing was off it would fall right in his palm. Being truthful, this game wasn't much more interesting than the pocketwatches; getting to the right height to reach the necklaces had taken some creativity, but now that Spotface had burrowed within a cocoon of hanging stuffed animal prizes, the rest was the simple. He was going to quit, only, this necklace had the look of a magic item...

Somewhere not far off, the sound of gunshots rang and echoed, joining with yelps and worried murmuring. Spotface jumped, his fingers fumbling, and the woman turned to face him in sudden horror. As the jewelry sprung loose from her neck, her voice went from pleasantly melodious to a high pitched shriek. "Help, thIIEEEF!" The comedy of her sudden voice change gave Spotface only a moment more to burst from his perch and away down the road. Rapid footsteps and urgent voices confirmed that the city watch was close on his tail. Distantly, he realized that he was running in the direction the shots came from--not particularly smart, Spotface, there will probably be more guards waiting for you--but it was too late now. He darted and weaved below tables, stalls, carts, and dresses. Turning down an alley that proved to be a dead end, men bounded in after to end the chase, only to find it empty. With a whoosh and the whizz-zip of his grappling shot, in seconds he was on the rooftops, ripping off his goggles and applying a fake beard. Jumping from roof to roof, he found a discrete place to clamber down, and bumped into the very same beggar from before--who was happy to supply Spotface with some spare rags.

He figured it would take a while to hobble quietly and slowly out of town, but it wasn't really an issue. No one paid any attention to beggars, after all, especially a greenskin. Winded from the running and excitement, he stopped to rest in the main square, where an amusing sign caught his attention. Super Awesome Magic Hunters, you say? Why, I was practically doing that just now!

The more Spotface thought about it, the more the idea appealed to him. He could use his skills on real world challenges instead of juvenile games, and in ways less likely to get him arrested. Working on a team might not be so bad, either, Spotface realized. That beggar, he mused, had probably been the first person he'd been friendly with in several months of traveling solo. Slipping into the shadows, he worked his way around the square until he arrived at the table in question. There was quite an array of people waiting there, and Spotface couldn't help but pause for a moment to take in, not one, but two towering giants. “What work do you have bossman?” the blue one asked. Regaining his composure, he walked as confidently as he could manage to the Teker manning the table.
"Yeah, uh.. where do I sign?"

While Michael was approaching the booth of the Magic Hunter, he saw a goblin and a troll both go up, asking to join. Well, they're attracting a rather interesting crowd... A bit more intrigued, Michael continued to approach, glancing at the "statue" once again. He still was rather interested in it, but it was best to keep his mind on his goals now. But it was clear now that it--no, she--was alive, and so just in case, he kept a meter away from the rock giant.

Walking past the troll and the goblin, he went up to the crazy man in the trenchcoat, silently praying said man had a bit more sanity than in his first impression, and asked, "Excuse me, sir, but do you think you could give me a few details on your business?" As the pink-haired boy spoke, he raised his left hand and pointed it directly at the sign that the "statue" was holding. "For example, do you have a plan yet for where to start with your magic hunting? A location, perhaps, that you'll be searching first? And when will you be setting off?"

Hopefully it was somewhere close by, or started quite a bit later, for classes went on for one more week, and Michael didn't want to play hooky.

----------------------------------

Just as Thomas managed to get his fans' attention back, he suddenly was interrupted again by a bunny girl landing directly next to him and distracting him, causing the puppets to falter in their movements.

The performer was very annoyed. This was the second time in a row that his show had gotten interrupted, and his fans probably were already starting to wander. He had to end this matter quickly and get on with the show somehow...but how?

"I'm, ah, very sorry to hear you do not feel comfortable with my performance. But unfortunately--" here Thomas gestured to the fans, who were watching him with anxiety and impatience, causing him to worry even more. "--I think you'll find I have quite a few admirers who have been enjoying my performance. So, greatest apologies, but I cannot stop now."

Turning away, he prepared to start up the show, desperately praying that he would not be interrupted a third time.

Alumaruk had just entered the area of the square dominated by booths when she heard the shots. They came from somewhere across the crowd of people, near an odd puppet performance. Alum paused with the people that crowded around her. There was a collective gasp, then the still silence of halted breath. Before Alum had even properly identified the location of the shots and their purpose, activity rushed back into normalcy. She assumed it was a human trick, or a performance.

Guns weren’t a popular orc weapon. Alum herself carried a walking staff made of white bone and a curved blade on her hip. Killing from a range was disrespectful to the enemy and Fazok. Only animals were hunted with bows, and those were just the fast ones. If someone handed Alum a gun that could kill all her enemies, she would drop it and choose to slowly and meticulously bludgeon them all with her staff.

Alum gripped her staff and took a closer look at the people who swarmed around her. They wore rich clothes of many hues, and draped themselves in twisted gold and silver chains. They gleamed and glittered like strange birds. Amongst them, Alum looked bland. She wore only tan and white cloth skirts, with a belted tan shirt. Her armor was inside the pack slung over her shoulder, but even it was scarce and unappealing. Her armor was tanned leather hide that fit around her vital parts. She wasn’t sure if it would even prevent damage from some of the advanced weapons that humans created, not that she planned on fighting humans.

Alum’s only elaborate accessory was the shawl that held her dreads and braids away from her face. The shawl was plain white, but the stitching varied in color. The effect would seem poor on humans, but the variety of colors spoke volumes to other tribal orcs. Every color told a story of Alum’s travels in nature to find the flowers for the dye. In some cases she might seek among the slick rocks of a waterfall for vermillion, or fight territorial predators for a chance to pluck the rich azure blooms in their territory. Every color in Alum’s shawl held a story only she could tell. Tribal orcs also might notice her long, thick hair, and her strong jaw. Among orc kind, Alum had many appealing features.

Alum kept an eye out for strange human apparel. She would love to tell the story of her adventure as if the whole square was filled to the brim with peacocks. The orc continued to make her way across the square, careful not to step on the tiny human children. She headed toward the sound of the gunshots and the puppeteer.

None of the booths she passed sold anything resembling magic, and neither did they contract the famed magic hunters whispered about in orc cities. It was near the end of her search around the booths, when Alum was near the puppet performance, that she noticed the crowd clustered around a particular booth. Of all the groups she had seen that day, most of them consisted of similarly featured humans. This gang was anything but consistent. Their strangeness gave her pause, until it dawned on the Alum that she had finally found the break she needed right here in Kergstien. She heard words about work and a boss, and about signing up somewhere. She saw the words “Magic Hunters” in the hands of a stone elemental.

Following the rest of the people who swarmed to question the human at the booth, Alumaruk strode forward with a smile that exposed her tusks.

She garbled out the words in common speech, “I’m looking to hunt magic,” and knew it was lost in the commotion of many speaking at once. The dancing puppets and crowds of shrieking children, the swarming sweaty people in their confusing clothes, and the energy and anxiety of the other inquirers at the booth made Alum’s blood boil. She felt her temper rise along with her temperature. The orc ground her teeth together and shouted above the commotion of the festival festivities.

“I’M LOOKING TO HUNT MAGIC.”

And she hoped that someone understood her accent.

Seraphina walked around trying to find the booth for the Magic Hunters for a few more minutes. She sighed feeling frustrated, because she thought that by the time that she got there all the spots for a good party would be taken up. Sera looked around some more and scratched her neck. "Oh in the name of Sele. Why wasn't I gifted with a better sense of direction!" She said to herself exasperatedly.

Seraphina saw from a few yards away, a giant of a woman. She wore a unique rock armor and she was very intrigued with her style and appearance wanting very much to meet her and ask who she was. Seraphina walked over and got closer to the crowd she started beaming seeing the booth finally behind the now two giants, a goblin, and...a perfomer from before?

Seraphina had heard about the puppetier Thomas, she thought that he had an okay character, yet if he wasn't so materialistic then he could focus more on the strength of his magic and be very powerful. She then got close enough to see a handsome man in the booth, wearing a trenchcoat and had a cat on his shoulder. Sera couldn't help but giggle and smile at seeing the cat. Out of all the animal she had seen in the world, cats had to be her favorite and the thing that she wanted most as a pet. Unfortunately she could not have one because she would have one for so little time in her life that she wouldn't be able to take the heart ache of losing it.

She kept he wings against her back as best she could, but in such a big crowd it was hard to keep the muscles tense for that long of a time. As neared the edge of the interesting group and said very politely, "Excuse me...pardon me please." She smiled and she looked up at giants and decided she'd have to start a conversation later with her.

Seraphina finally got to the booth and she looked at the man with the trenchcoat. "Um, hello. I am Seraphina, I would like to join a Magic Hunting Party...Um, I am already a member of the GMHO. I was hoping that there could be a use for a Seraph here." She blushing smiling happily as she giggled quietly.

"May I please pet your cat? I love cats." She said feeling excited about being able to pet a kitty.

Felix stared at the growing crowd around and began flicking his tail back and forth. "Hugo, are you going to answer the questions of this ideal and racially diverse group, or are you going to sit there LIKE SOME MUTE IDIOT?" Felix turned his head to glare at Hugo and possibly smack him around, but he wasn't there. "Yo Felix!" Felix quickly swerved his head to where Hugo's voice was coming from, underneath the table, of course, "Where the hell did we place the contracts?" Felix facepawed, "They're next to our broken radio." "Okay, found it! Thanks Felix,"Hugo emerged from underneath the table with two fat stacks of paper. Hugo slammed the two piles onto the table.

"Before I begin I am required by law to give a quick disclaimer. Magic hunting is dangerous job that has a high fatality rate and may lead to painful and gruesome death, also be cool and don't do drugs. Now that everyone here is aware of the consequences of magic hunting we can continue. Greetings, my name is Hugo and I am the Hunts Master of this party. This my comrade Felix, I wouldn't recommend trying to pet him, but you can test your luck if you want." Felix glared at Hugo who returned the look with a smile. "The party will be acting as an official expedition party that will act on the behalf of the GMHO and because of this I cannot divulge the details of the expedition in public or to non party members. If the circumstances were different I would be free to tell everything, but the GMHO doesn't like people knowing everything about what they do and I'd like to keep my license and my life. You are also required to sign either a two month or four month contract to join the party so that you will be able to receive the necessary visas. So who wants to get rich or die a horrendous and painful death trying?" Hugo pulled out a large cardboard tube and pulled the string at the very bottom, unleashing a torrent of multicolored confetti and streamers. "Where the hell did you get that?" "Places my dear Felix, places.

~Fera (No I tried. And I cannot change it. It doesn't matter though, she can go by Fea too)

Fera looked at the audience, then back to the man controlling the puppets, she didn't feel comfortable with the dolls near her and others. Since the last time puppets were even near people, said people, including her, were almost killed. The doll went out of control, and if it weren't stopped by a misplaced arrow that Fera had, she would have been ripped to rivets by the damned thing. From that she learned two things, always watch your arrows, and dolls are the most evil things ever made. Fera and a few didn't like them, though her ears were a sight to behold. Kindred weren't really seen in cities like this, and she was one of the first to ever be seen by most people. But soon she walked to the colourful bunch that gathered by the table, it was needless to say, but being 154 centimeters had it's disadvantages, behind the troll, she couldn't see anything yet squeezed through the mass seeing a cat and man whom looked rather big and brutish. He spoke about what the gathering was for to which she nodded, understanding the mission he was on. Fera wasn't the adventuring type, thinking this as she raised her hood moving towards the front, she spoke softly,

"So that is your goal, get rich or die trying, correct...?" she asked, her voice filled with timidity, "What about the research that could be done in said vaults, do you plan to do some of that as well?" the little rabbit was full of questions, but paused after the research, she had one goal in mind there, to get rid of her branding

Lucious slowly gravitated towards the crowd that began to grow as he walked ever closer. He had only attended the festival because he was encouraged to have some "fun." I'd be better off studying back at home... he thought. Being on the taller side, Lucious caught a glimpse of what was going on.

This my comrade Felix, I wouldn't recommend trying to pet him, but you can test your luck if you want." he heard a man say.

So who wants to get rich or die a horrendous and painful death trying?"

After the man had finished his statement, colored confetti rained from the skies. Just then a little girl moved out of the crowd and to the front. "So that is your goal, get rich or die trying, correct...?" he heard her say. "What about the research that could be done in said vaults, do you plan to do some of that as well?"

Maybe this is it... Lucious thought. I could get some real money from this... Lucious made his way forward himself almost instinctively. "Excuse me," he said clearing his throat. "I may very well be interested in this 'quest' of sorts myself. After all, you may need some sort of collaborator of sorts to get all of the applicants sorted out." He wasn't going to show that he had other uses just yet...

Seraphina watched as many more people stepped up to the booth. She was feeling bored waiting around for so long, even if there was plenty of commotion around her. It wasn't until a male Seraph came up to the podem. Seraphina stopped playing with her dress and watched the Seraph walk through the crowd sign the piece of paper and wait with the crowd. Seraphina kept her eyes on him and walked over to him intrigued with why he had decided to come and join the magic hunting group jsut ike she had. 'Perhaps he is also bored of life...' Seraphina thought to herself.

She stood next to him and was about to speak, when the Head of the hunting party that they had signed up for stood up and started to address the odd looking group. She sighed and listened intently to master Hugo and she giggled at how he made such a dramatic and huge emphasis on dieing on the journey. Seraphina knew that it would take a lot for something to kill a 421 year old light mage, but she couldn't become so cocky. Even though she kept trying to reassure herself she couldn't help but feel a little scared, since this was the first time in her very long life that she was doing something this dangerous and risky. However, she thought of the little boy that she had helped before and knew that because of so many people who weren't able to use magic or be gifted with such a long time to practice and appreciate the properties of magic, that she had to do something of more meaning in her life to help others.

Even though Seraphina found that healing and saving people's lifes was very important and helpful to the world, she felt that if she couldn't put her own life on the line then it would be a life wasted and would soon be forgotten.

When Master Hugo finished, he released a confetti cannon and Seraphina and the others were showered in sparkles and colorful tiny pieces of paper. Seraphina giggled and said, "Well, what would life be if there wasn't a little danger in it! I don't care about the money, but count me in! Let's start hunting some magic!"

It was late at night. Adris was still working on a case back at the office. He was sat there, in the lone light coming from his lamp with only the sound of the clock ticking to make him remember that time have passed. He was looking at the files, thinking about the murder that just happened. The cause of it was still not confirmed, but people have hypnotised that someone probably stabbed through the body with katars. Adris wasn’t of the same thinking way since he has yet to see someone using katars. It was mostly because of the invention of the guns that those weapons have stopped to be common. Yet, it could be plausible, but he still think there was something more about the case…

“Working hard, Shark?” The old but rough voice of his superior was heard. Adris raised his eyes up to see his boss. He was about 50 years or so, but was still in a good shape despite his age.

“You never know when there is a clue.” Adris responded as he stood up, putting his coat on. “It is getting late. I’ll probably work on it some more tomorrow.”

“You know, you should get some rest sometimes.” This sentence surprised Adris who he looked at his boss like if it was a joke. His boss shook his head, smiling faintly. “You’re always working. It depresses me to see you working so hard, unlike others. I think you need it as well. It has been months since you took a day off.”

“I’m always at my job b-“ He was cut off as the boss wiggled his finger around.

“Tomorrow, I don’t want to see you here. Understood?” He asked in a first voice. Adris only nodded. His boss patted his shoulder. “I’m doing this for your good, okay? If you really have nothing to be done, just pass to Solaria. They have their annual summer fair. I’m sure you’ll like it. ”

“Thank you boss.” Adris said, only showing a small smile. They both made their way out of the office. The old man locked the door and gave a last small wave at Adris. Adris did the same.

The sun was unbelievably bright this morning. He never seen the sun that bright, but it is maybe due to the sun is mostly hidden with clouds from where he is due to the industrial activity. Either way, it was magnificent. Adris could only feel the child inside of him just wanting to skip around in the streets. Although, as an adult, he didn’t want to appear childish in front of everyone.

He finally stepped out of the air boat that transported him. Despite the rumors that he heard the Tekers said, he always wanted to see Solaria from his own eyes. And he wasn’t so displeased. Due to the summer festival, everything looked so colorful. He walked down the streets, looking around with his small smile. He didn’t want to stop at all. However, want made him stop is when he stumbled upon the GMHO stand.

He heard many things of the GMHO, but never actually saw one of their recruiting stand. He always thought that they were adventuring in dangerous places. And it shows by how people say that most of them die trying to get rich. What bothers him is that they are magic hunters. Being an elemental, he felt it was somehow messing with the course of things. However, he had to agree that they already done it with the Tekers industrialisation. Either way, he said down far from the stand, but near enough to listen to what they have to say. He looked up into the sky, still admiring on how beautiful it was.

A train comes rolling into a station, slowly grinding to a stop. with a hiss, the train’s doors slide open. “Kiergestein, Kiergestein station. Please watch your step when getting of the train.” the message repeats itself a few times more as the passengers stream out of the train and onto the station. As the train empties out., a metallic figure hops out of the exit, landing onto platform with a thud. “Wow, that was a long train ride. Almost succumbed to boredom on the way here.” The figure said. “Now, how do i get to the central square?” With that question in mind, he went asking around, but many were reluctant to mention anything at all, besides a friendly elderly lady whom he suspected had a case of bad eyesight. Nonetheless, she detailed him the exact way to get to the centre from where he was. Thanking the elderly lady, he made his way there, stopping briefly to buy a newspaper.

“Hey, didja hear? Some nutter fired a few shots at a cat in central square.””Yeah yeah, heard that already. get with the times rog my buddy.” Is what a middle aged men said to another. “Reading this newspaper will have to wait.”Gainsboro said as he tucked the newspaper under his right arm, and continued on his way towards the centrum. Each step fast and with purpose, The click-clacking sound his metal feet made upon the cobblestone street audible enough to attract numerous looks during his brisk walk. When he finally made it to the square He noticed three glaringly obvious things.

One: The very flamboyant performer on stage who looked highly annoyed by the rabbit kindred next to him.
Two: The most diverse group of all time was gathered around one spot.
Three: The Grey, gargantuan women who held a sign which looked small in her hands, up in the air which had "Super Awesome Magic Hunters Recruitment." crudely written on it. “Truly, a toddler could have done a better job of writing it”. Is what he thought.

He but away his still unread newspaper in his slingbag and retrieved his Proof of assignment letter from the main United Keter States GMHO branch. He made his way to the extraordinary group, his foot falls ever audible as walked around the group until he saw the person next to the giant of a women, a relatively tall, well built man who wore his hair in a tail, who he just saw slamming two stacks of paper on the table, giving the shortest disclaimer he ever heard and introducing himself as Hugo and his feline companion as Felix.

So who wants to get rich or die a horrendous and painful death trying?" After he finished talking, and after letting various people including the bunnygirl respond to Hugo, Gainsboro addressed the man.

“Sir. I have been newly assigned to you by the main Teker GMHO branch.” He says as he holds out his assignment letter. “My name is Variable Proto System, Grand Walker Frame III; “Gainsboro Twelve”. You may call me Gainsboro Twelve. Am i also required to fill in these forms, and is there anything i can assist you with at the moment, sir?” He asked, his voice somewhat altered through the voice box behind his faceplate, and slightly muffled by the faceplate itself.

June 21--10:35 AM
Kergstien, Solarian Empire

By the time the Huntsmaster-to-be had finished speaking and sent confetti flying everywhere, Michael was staring at him with a confounded look. This man did...not seem quite right in the head. He was rather spontaneous, and as far as Michael could see, not entirely trustworthy. And just what was he doing, talking to his cat?

But one thing was clear: Hugo would not be giving him any more information. Combing the confetti and streamers out of his short, pink hair, Michael turned around and started walking away without giving much of a farewell at all. As soon as he was sure he was out of eyesight of the crowd at the booth, however, he glanced backwards, and for a fraction of a second, his eye flashed orange once more, allowing him to see the magic signatures of everyone at that stand.

And good heavens, there were plenty of tremendously powerful people there! The "statue" lady, the Huntsmaster, a young lady with white hair, even a man in a black suit who sat a small distance from the booth...actually, whether the man in the suit was involved, Michael didn't know, but that wasn't the point...in any case, he could see that the power flowing through their bodies exceeded both his and Thomas' at normal levels.

Just as Michael was wondering why so many powerful people had come to this Hunting Party in particular, his thought process was interrupted by metallic clanking--and he looked up barely in time to see what appeared to be a robotic suit walking past. For a few moments, Michael continued to stare in awe while it marched to the booth--and then, he made up his mind about something.

Rushing into a dark alley, he raised a hand to his bracelet and made a short yet urgent conversation with someone else. "...Yes. I understand. I'll tell him right away." After that was over, he made another call, this time to Thomas.

----------------------------------

Thomas, meanwhile, was bowing to his audience with a triumphant smile on his face. The show had gone with no further distractions, and his fans were very pleased--though Thomas himself had panicked internally when the loud robotic suit had gone past, but thankfully his Fan Service had not been ignored.

The people around him were now shouting for an encore performance, and Thomas was about to reply when he noticed the violet gem on his bracelet flashing. Although rather annoyed, this time, he knew something important was going on. "Ah, hold on a moment, my fans. Your encore will begin shortly." Raising a hand one more time, he packed the puppets into the dark violet box and rushed away, where he could continue his conversation in peace. "What is it, Michael? I need to do an encore!"

"Well, I'm sorry, but your Fan Service must wait a bit longer," his younger brother's voice retorted. "Listen, Thomas. There was a booth next to your show--remember it? Where that crazy man shot at his cat?"

"Yes, what about it?" Thomas asked impatiently.

There was a pause on the other side of the line. Then, "We would like you to join that man's Hunting Party."

"Pfft, I'm too busy for-" Thomas suddenly stopped dead in his tracks and stared at the bracelet as though it had turned into a jellyfish. "Wait, WHAT?! Why would I need to do that?!"

Michael's voice continued, but the voices were getting louder around his end, so he probably was re-entering the main square. "Most of the people looking to be in that Hunting Party are extremely strong. That level of strength is exactly what Fath..." The words suddenly halted, and in that moment, Thomas bowed his head rather miserably while Michael resumed speaking in a shakier voice. "...what we are looking for. So...he asked you to join."

"Well, why not you? I've got work to do!" Even though what Michael almost said had dampened his spirits, Thomas was still rather determined not to go.

"There's still one week of classes left, so I can't go. And, well, you...know why we can't send Christopher.'" Another silence fell between the brothers before Michael finally resumed talking. "Well, in any case, you're the only one out of us that can go. So, I'll ask the Huntsmaster if you can enter. Get back to the square, alright? You can do your encore after we're finished."

Finally, Thomas reluctantly agreed and headed back towards the center of the city.

----------------------------------

Right. This should work out fine. Michael, at this point, had reached the booth again, and raised a hand to call attention to himself. "Excuse me, sir," he called to Hugo. "I will not be joining your Hunting Party myself just yet, but could I reserve a spot for someone else?"

Spotface snatched up one of the forms, and attempted to skim through while scratching at his fake beard. Writhka's tits, but this getup is itchy... Turning his thoughts away from his growing discomfort, he had to chuckle over the Teker's little speech about death and danger. Death is for chumps. But hey, that just means more riches for me! Looking over the contract, there were some bits he wasn't so keen on--these GMHO blokes are damned particular about their privacy, and no mistake. But nothing serious was jumping out at him, and his mind was already drifting towards thoughts of excitement and glory. He turned to lean on the table leg--stupid non-goblin tables, even the human ones are taller than I am--and absent-mindedly flipped through the document as visions of hidden vaults and secret treasures filled his mind... that is, until he saw her.

She was tall--but then, at Spotface's height, everyone seemed to tower above him--with a sort of lithe and confident grace that seemed better suited to wild forests or distant plains, but the bustling city only made her shine the more in the contrast. Her eyes spoke of a soft but determined soul, and he marveled at the way the sunny day made her tusks gleam and sparkle. Something about the bright threads woven into her dark rivers of braided hair reminded him instantly of the colorful costumes of his Harlequin family... But of all the people I've met through the Troupe, I never met a woman like This...

In a moment, he remembered himself, and looked sheepishly around. Had anyone seen him staring like a buffoon just then? Of course not. I get stepped on all the time; no one cares what the little goblin's up... well, Down to. He shuffled his feet a bit, and was now very grateful for the beard that must have concealed his gaping mouth from when his jaw went slack. Pull yourself together, Spotface. You're probably overreacti-OHMYGOdsshe'ssigninguptoooOOkay, breathe. Breathe. Just fill out the form DON'T LOOK AT HER. Yes. Here we go. Paperwork's done.

Stretching to reach above the desk to hand the paperwork back, it was all he could to to calm down and keep a straight face. His face was on fire between the blush that had bloomed there and the unbearably stuffy, scratchy beard. Tugging at the collar almost loosed the rags that made up his beggar's costume, and so when his eyes alighted on the puppet show, he began eagerly shuffling toward it. Not normally my bag, but right now, Any distraction will do...

The crowd around Elant began to expand exponentially, especially after Hugo's rather exuberant display with the confetti. Undaunted by the warnings of death and secrecy, Elant signed his name upon a 2-month contract. If they were this short-handed, the contract could easily be renewed if Elant wished it. He was also fairly certain that the current Dwarven monarch wouldn't dream of letting him wander the festival without at least one pair of eyes keeping tabs on him, so he was certain to be provided with some sort of backup should things go sour. It really was a win-win situation!

As he handed Hugo his contract, he noticed the presence of none other than Seraphina, the Solarian Seraph. Tales of her beauty and mastery of magic had reached him even in the depths of Minoresse- though none had done her justice enough to warrant her radiant presence at the present moment. It was bizarre- he had never had much experience with those of his own kind before.

Deciding to break the ice, he matched Seraphina's gaze. "Good day, madam." Elant introduced, "Rather serendipitous that two of our species sign up for the same expedition! If I'm not mistaken, you must be "The Solarian Goddes, Seraphina?"

Hugo leaned on the table and looked the bunny girl in the eyes and smiled, "No, I said that main goal is to get rich or die in horrendous ways trying. After all, magic hunters don't just die, they die horrific, painful, and gruesome deaths, unless they do drugs or they have a heart condition." Hugo dropped his serious tone in favor of a much friendlier version.

"I'm required to make sure that most participants know that most deaths are horrible, it reduces liability. Here's the dealio, I don't know where you got the idea that we will be searching for vaults, cause only a fool plans on finding vaults, unless the fool has map, but then he wouldn't be a fool, he would be a very rich person in the near future." Hugo paused for moment, "Wait, I'm getting off topic, shit." Hugo quickly cleared his throat, "I'm not going to lie, there is a possibility of finding a vault, but it's not a guarantee and it won't be our primary objective. But what we find, what we do with the vault is all up to the future us, you know what I mean? And there's also the fact that I can't predict what future Hugo will do in a vault." Hugo pulled out two contract choices and presented them to the bunny girl, "I'm not going to judge but I have to know, are you one of the plague cure chasers? It's okay if you are, but don't raise any hopes." Hugo dipped the quill and placed it in front of the two contract options, "Alright Floppsy, sign on the dotted line if you're still interested."

Hugo picked up two contracts and handed it to the seraph, "And Angel Dust, you should know the routine, choose the contract length you want and sign on the dotted line and you'll be in. It'll be great to have a healer and a veteran on board." Hugo pulled out another pair of contracts and handed them to the half elf, "Don't call it a quest, you'll make it sound like a field trip for small children. If you're interested, sign on the the dotted line, and you can join the crew. But I'm not going to accept your help, to be honest I don't trust the bureaucratic abilities of someone named Donnie, you look like a Donnie, are you named Donnie?" Hugo gave the half elf a big smile, "Just messin', though I will need your name. There are people named Donnie everywhere and you can't trust people named Donnie."

Hugo turned to the iron clad man, "Nice to meet you, but that wasn't a name, and I refuse to refer to you by a product code so I'm going give you a nickname, and I'll let you choose which nickname ya get since you gave something that was supposed to be a name. So your choices are Robo-Enforcer or Plate Face." Hugo pushed the two contract options forwords, "You can get back to me on that choice with a signed contract."

Hugo glared at the fruity haired teenager, "Listen Berry Boy, this isn't a dumping ground for your reject boyfriends, I don't accept reservations. Isn't that right Felix. Felix?" Hugo turned his head to where Felix was sitting, "Shit, what the hell Felix! Where did you go?"

Felix had left during the flurry of questions and answers. Hugo was being loud, there were too many people around the table and Felix decided it would be best to scope out the other applicants. As he slipped through the crowd Felix detected a faint and familiar smell as well as its accompanying presence. Felix soon spotted that red scarf, and that blond hair. So it really was Morgan, even though she aged, Felix still thought she still looked the same. She still looked like a half breed and she still accessorized like a socialist. Felix leaped onto Morgan's shoulder by using Morgan's traveling companion as a boost. Felix smiled and began tapping a message into the forehead of Morgan in Morse Code. The message was on the lines of, "Greetings compatriot who dresses like a communist, how goes your glorious revolution? Also if Hugo was here with me he would most likely say some form of hello."

There was a flurry of excitement as people poured in. Papers were being handed out, exclamations exclaimed, questioning questions proposed and complaints registered. Alumaruk huffed from between her tusks. Her heart beat like a heavy fist in her chest. Everything was a dull roar in her ears.

The orc took a contract and began to fill it out. Her shaky hands made her script nearly illegible. Plus the writing implements were like tiny toothpicks in her hands. Alum chose a four month contract. There was no time limit on success.

The orc understood the warnings, but most of what the human said passed unheard through her ears. What Alum was concerned with stood out brightly in her mind: “Magic hunting”. The orc was finally on the path toward finding magic. Whether she would be gifted with pay for supplying security or given the raw ore of magic itself, her goals were in sight. Alum felt a smile creep onto her face. Her excitement nearly matched her anxiety, but the commotion around her seriously dampened her spirits.

Alum finished signing all the work. She stood there with the papers held out stupidly in one hand. Alum’s mind turned inwards, to where the spirit nestled in a pocket of her consciousness. She sought the calm of meditation and wisdom. She sought the courage of orcs. She sought the peace of the plains.

The orc loved the beauty and energy of the human city, but like many strange things, she preferred to remember it in poetry. Alum could not stand living amongst such chaos. The disorder threatened to boil her brains. The little humans threatened to trip her every time she stepped.

She reached deeper, opened her mind to the spirit. Its power invaded every corner of her mind. Alum felt total calm. She would manage until they left the city. Unfortunately, the orc felt there would be much more to do and many people to meet before they’d pass through the gates on the way out.

Alumaruk sighed and shook the papers.

“Take them, human,” she garbled roughly, “I am ready to begin.”

And I am ready for a drink.

Maleki

Maleki had only had a second, barely getting his question out of his mouth before it seemed as though every oddball in the entire city was suddenly crowding around the booth. He was not sure what annoyed him more, the large number or people jostling around him and talking all at once or the crazy man he was trying to get a job from. Suffice to say, the odd collection of people gathered around was more than interesting, as the bossman sent confetti flying everywhere he took a moment to glance around and study the people gathered.

The first to come up after him had been a small goblin with shifty looking eyes and an odd beard, odd partly because Maleki could not recall the last time he had seen a goblin with a true beard. The little one was small enough that if he was not careful he might get trampled by the others standing around. A orc had shown up right after, shouting about wanting to hunt for magic. Female from the looks of her, if he had to guess he would say she was from one of the plains tribes but he could easily be mistaken. She spoke with a heavy accent, obviously not from around these parts and he could not tell for sure if her seemingly quick breathing was out of weariness or out of excitement. He had a feeling she would end up burning herself out if she continued the way she was. It was better to go slowly and calmly. Next a short, though not as short as the goblin, girl approached with deep blue eyes that reminded him of the ocean he had seen only once before. The wings on her back gave away her race, either she was a seraph or his understanding of human anatomy was missing a few points. She was more interested in the cat though than anything else, probably not an adventurous bone in her body. This was already an odd group of people gathered, he was not going to be walking into any taverns with them. As his eyes moved past the girl he spotted someone who made a slight shiver run up his spine. Fighters always had a different sense about them, like wolves able to know when another is near. His senses told him that the human who was talking to the elemental was an experienced fighter, both because of the fact that he was taller than most of the other people around and also due to the fact that he had a hardness about him which could only be produced by time spent harming another living person. He would have to keep his eye on that one, luckily it did not look as though the man was keeping an eye on him.

As Maleki was studying the nord a man stepped between them, cutting off his view. While the Nord had seemed hard and brutal, the newcomer was obviously more refined. Another seraph, he held himself as if he was defusing a bomb, serious and with an air of precision. No warrior though, he was more likely a merchant or politician of some sort. A persons whose words could be as deadly as a blade. A small smile spread across Maleki’s face, any smart man would leave now, this group was already looking like trouble with the strange people joining it, and a wise man would extract himself and not get involved in such a concoction that was probably going to blow up in someone’s face. It was Maleki’s gut that he followed though, picking up one of the papers that the man, Hugo, had set out and filling it out. Whatever happened, at least he would have something to do finally. An elf had just approached, talking with hugo when a giant tin man came walking out of nowhere. Maleki could not help but laugh a little, setting the paper down and pushing it towards Hugo along with the other filled out papers. The tin man was a warrior, or at least that was what his build looked like, and walking talking machine warriors were not the most common thing to see walking around. He did not know why he was surprised though, from the looks of things a life walker would be joining next and no one would mind at all. With a shake of his head Maleki asked one question to Hugo, his voice projecting a bit in order to make sure he caught the man’s attention. “When do we leave? I would like to look around more if I have the time.”

Seraphina looked up at Hugo and seemed confused. "Angel Dust?" she said softly. She had never had such an odd nickname before and was taken off guard. She nodded at Hugo, "Yes sir. I do know. I am a very experienced healer, so i think if anyone was going to die I could help to stop it from occurring. " Seraphina giggled and blushed slightly as she filled out the contract and handed it back to Hugo, sighing in relief. She quickly got out of everyones way and stood in the middle back where she had came from. Everyone seemed so excited and eager to start the journey. She looked around and saw an elf and the Seraph. She felt like she was the only person she studied fully on healing magic and only focused on that. She felt important and smiled feeling anxious as well to start the journey. She was excited to feel the thrill of being on an adventure that was dangerous and fun with a very diverse group of people. Even with such small numbers, there was even another Seraph among the group... And they were probably the oldest of the group from what she guessed at least.

Suddenly, she heard a voice next to her and she turned to see the male Seraph greeting her. She blushed feeling shy and she giggled as he called her a goddess. "Oh well, I am Seraphina, but i dont know if Im a goddess. I guess that is what people call me now..." She smiled up at the Seraph. "But it is a very nice day, I am very excited to start an adventure with you, since i dont see many other Seraphs lately. But what is your name sir? You remind me of someone I heard of among my Dwarven friends." She scratched her arm and examined him, noticing that he looked like more experienced flyer than herself and that he was a very handsome seraph as well.

The man name "Hugo" then turned to him, handing him a contract. "Don't call it a quest, you'll make it sound like a field trip for small children." The man said. "If you're interested, sign on the the dotted line, and you can join the crew. But I'm not going to accept your help, to be honest I don't trust the bureaucratic abilities of someone named Donnie, you look like a Donnie, are you named Donnie?" "Hugo" gave a smile. "Just messin', though I will need your name. There are people named Donnie everywhere and you can't trust people named Donnie."

"My name's Lucusious." he said signing the paper. "Lucious Marder, don't bother trying to pin a nickname on me" he continued. "They never stick." Lucious returned the signed paper. He also took a second to take a look around at the company gathered around him. A few big brutes...a couple seraphs...strange folk too... he thought. "This is becoming more and more like one of those fairy tales..." he sighed.

Lucious turned back to Hugo. "Now what?"

"Nice to meet you, but that wasn't a name, and I refuse to refer to you by a product code so I'm going to give you a nickname, and I'll let you choose which nickname ya get since you gave something that was supposed to be a name. So your choices are Robo-Enforcer or Plate Face. You can get back to me on that choice with a signed contract." The recruiter had said.

“Oh sir, you wound me. I hold considerable pride in my name you know? I am saddened you wouldn’t even settle for Gainsboro.” The Voltikron said before a small chuckle escaped him. “ I jest, it doesn’t bother me to that extend. Can’t say the same for the lead designer. Cute kid. I’d break her heart if she heard about it though. ” He took the form with the 4 month option, and started filling it in. While he filled in the form, he thought about those two nicknames.”Robo-enforcer? What am i? a kill bot? “TARGET EXTERMINATED, AWAITING NEW DIRECTIVES. NEW DIRECTIVES AQCUIRED, ENGAGING NEW TARGET.” He tried to stifle a snicker as he imagined it. “Plate face was just as bad. Seriously, this Hugo guy is quite unimagineative. Let’s just get this form filled in.” He thought.

"Age, birthplace, race aaand done.” He handed his now filled in form back to Hugo as he spoke. “Here you go sir. Now about those nicknames… They sound both quite horrible and uncreative. I’d really prefer it if you’d just call me Gainsboro or even Gain, but if you have to be stubborn about it, At least call me Dan, Metalman or Tinman. Heck, even Tincan’s better.” He tried to explain to the GMHO assigned recruiter. “Either way, i’ll be sitting over here reading my newspaper until you need me.” He said while shrugging, as he made his way towards a nearby bench. He took his newspaper out of his bag and sat down, Crossing his left leg over the right in a casual manner. He started reading the frontpage slowly, taking his time reading it, all the while whistling what he thought was a soft, pleasant tune.
