Description

Don't think I won't punch you!

Image
Name: Kai Ember
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Race: Teker

Physical Description: Kai stands at 5'2 (157 cm), quite a bit shorter than most Tekers, with a slim but toned physique. Her hair is in a short and choppy boyish style. She has large, light brown eyes that are always sparkling with feistiness. She has a delicate looking nose, and thin lips that she chews on when she gets nervous. When she gets angry, her small stature and childish features make her look slightly comedic, so it's hard for people to take her seriously! Kai likes to wear comfortable boyish clothes. She usually wears a pair of loose brown pants, rolled up at the bottom to reveal scuffed combat boots; an off-white button up shirt, and a vest that is much too big for her. She also wears a dark green jacket with a hood. Overall, she looks pretty mismatched.

Skin color: Tan
Hair color: Dark brown
Eye Color: light brown

Occupation: She used to serve drinks at a local tavern. She's soon to be a magic hunter.

Bio: Kai was born in a town called Ebony in the minor country of Ulteris. She was born into a lower-middle-class family, with both parents present. She was an only child. Her parents put a lot of pressure on her to be the best. Since Ulteris is very militaristic country, she was pushed to develop her fighting ability. Her dream as a child was to grow up and join the Ulteris Army. She worked hard doing odd jobs throughout her teens until she and her parents put away enough money for her to attend a prestigious military academy at the age of 18. She did very poorly in her acedemics. She had a knack for getting into fights. The one thing she was somewhat good at was empty handed martial arts. However, her military dreams crashed to the ground when she was expelled after injuring another student in a drunken fight. Her parents were so angry they refused to let her back into the house, so she worked as a barmaid at a local tavern. When she heard of the magic hunting opportunities, she couldn't wait to leave the town of Ebony for good.

Hometown: Ebony
Home country: Ulteris

Personality: Kai is fiery and impulsive. She's always itching for some excitement, and won't back down from a good old fashioned fist fight. She doesn't make friends easily, nor trust easily. However, she is tireless at the job and is always willing to work hard.

Likes: Spelunking, winning, playing chess, anything chocolate
Dislikes: losing, doing math problems of any kind, sleeping (she gets nightmares easily)

Skills and Abilities martial arts. She can also use a dagger, but she's not as good at it. Surprisingly, she is also very good at cooking, especially chocolate cake.
Equipment & Weapons: She carries a dagger, but prefers to use her fists. Her martial arts training comes in handy.

Magic: She never pursued her magic ability. She hasn't yet discovered what her innate ability is.

So begins...

~Kai Ember
Like for most things in her life, Kai was late.
But she had gone too far to turn back. It had begun as whispers, rumors, in her little hometown of Ebony in Ulteris. Something about Magic, and something about hunting, and something about it all starting in a Solarian city. She couldn't resist. She sure disliked Solarians but she disliked her menial existence as a barmaid even more. It had been a while since she had been in a good fistfight. A slow smile curled on her lips. It was time for some excitement again.
So she had traveled all the way from Ulteris, using her hard earned savings along with some more dubiously obtained funds. But she had made it. Now she ducked through the city, looking for something she wasn't quite sure what. But she was late. She had a crawling feeling she was running out of time.
A beggar grasped her foot as she passed, causing her to stagger. She regained her balance quickly and snatched her foot away. "Watch it." She snarled at him. But she didn't have time to pick a fight. She had to hurry and find this magic hunting party. She pressed on through the festival crowds.
Then she saw it. There was a ragtag group of people scrunched around a table. And was that confetti dotting the ground? And then there was a statue-looking thing with the scribbled sign. Yup - this had to be it. Kai stalked up to the crowd and rocked up on her toes, trying to see. It was impossible to get a good look. So she just pushed into the crowd.
Kai shoved and elbowed her way ruthlessly through the group. She had her eye on the table ahead, so she didn't get a good look at the people she was pushing aside. But she thought she saw a little green goblin, and a tall elf, and wait was that a girl with bunny ears? And was that a robot?
She pressed to the front, by the table, and rudely elbowed aside the strange man with multicolored hair that was standing there. She put a hand on the table and leaned against it casually. She was a rather strange sight - a Teker girl with short, shaggy brown hair wearing boys clothing. She wore loose brown pants rolled up to reveal scuffed combat boots, a button up shirt, and a too-big vest that hung off her slight, boyish frame. Her large brown eyes sparked as she grinned up at the man in the trench coat standing behind the table.
"Is this where I sign up?"

Kergstien, Solarian Empire

Thomas was roughly pushed to the side all of a sudden, before the man in the trench coat could reply. "Hey! Watch it!" he shouted, angrily turning around. Just who did this girl think she was, ruining his Fan...oh wait, wrong, he wasn't doing it right now.

Though honestly, what was with the crowd around them? It barely made any sense, seeing Seraphs, an orc, a goblin, some robot that he personally thought looked rather ugly, an elf, that bunny girl, and then humans like him and Michael...and that annoying girl that shoved him aside. What a weird bunch, eh?

Meanwhile, Michael, who really didn't have much of a purpose now, sat down on the bench next to the robot (who looked rather strange to him, especially when he was casually reading a newspaper) and continued to look on at the Hunting Party's booth. As he saw Thomas shout angrily at the girl who had pushed him aside, the pink-haired boy sighed and muttered something about how impolite people were getting these days.

Glancing at the robot again, Michael wondered if he should start a conversation, but decided not to.

Out of all the assembled adventurers gathered at the stall, Morgan and Lysandra were probably the most normal-looking. As Hugo finished his speech, the crowd surged forwards to sign up for the expedition. There were all kinds of people here, most notably two Seraphs. Morgan would've been surprised enough to see just one in her lifetime. As those in front started signing their respective contracts, Morgan took the time to finish off her ginger. It wasn't the cheapest stuff, so she hadn't bought that much of it. Shortly after she'd thrown away the paper bag, the engineer was almost knocked off balance by the sudden arrival of a certain cat jumping on her shoulder. Returning the grin, Morgan recognised the message being tapped onto her forehead as none other than Morse code.

"Cheeky git. You're wearing more red than I am," she said, reaching up to give Felix a scratch behind the ears. "So how have you and Hugo been doing?"

Lysandra looked understandably confused. It was one thing to have a cat use you as a stepping stone, but watching said cat start a conversation with your friend was another matter entirely.

"Is this...?" It bewildered the navigator that she was even going to ask such a stupid question. "Who you were talking about?" She eyed the cat, watching it touch Morgan's forehead in a series of taps.

"Hmm? Oh, this is Hugo's cat, Felix. As for what we were talking about, well, it's an in-joke between us. Felix here thinks my scarf makes me look like a communist," explained Morgan.

"So," Lysandra began. Trying hard not to ask her friend if she just stepped out of a mental ward. "Talking cats are a regular thing now, huh?" She added jovially, though the navigator was well aware that the tapping could've been morse code.

"Who's this Hugo person, anyway?" She asked, her thoughts still fixated on what the connection between Morgan's scarf and communism was.

"That guy at the stall, handing out the contracts. We used to hang out together back in Holbrook, years ago. I wondered what he'd been doing while I was at Strelanka..."

"Never thought you'd be into crazy." Lysandra glanced at the man handing out the contracts. "Mad crazy, that is."

"Heh. Yeah, the man's an absolute fruitcake, but he's a reliable fruitcake when the going gets tough. Anyway, let's go and -" Morgan's words were cut off as a girl pushed past them and went for Hugo's stall. "Oi, we were next!" the engineer yelled, making her way closer to the front. Could've been a better situation for a reunion after so long, but Morgan gave Hugo a nod of recognition all the same.

Hugo quickly leafed through the contracts. After seeing that everything was in order Hugo straightened out the pile with a few quick taps. “A good days work, and nice bundle of fresh heads.” Hugo smiled and let out a deep sigh. From the depths of his pockets Hugo pulled out his bronze pocket watch and flipped it open, 10:45. Hugo quickly snapped it shut and addressed the troll, “You shouldn’t worry about leaving today. I have to run these contracts to the local GMHO office to create the party roster and register everyone here under my jurisdiction and leadership. Now if I can get these contracts in before they close early,we should be able to leave tomorrow morning, tomorrow afternoon at the latest.”

A loud canon of a laugh boomed across the crowd from the back. “Ah but the office is already closed! We decided not to open at all today, after all it is the summer solstice festival!” A large, dark skinned man made his way up to the front. “I could smell the fear and eradicated fantasies from across the city and I knew only one magic hunter could destroy so many hopes and dreams with a few introductory remarks. How the hell have you been?”

The large man grabbed Hugo, hugging, lifting and crushing all at the same time, “You’re crushing me,” the Huntsmaster groaned.

The man released Hugo from his bear hug, “Sorry ‘bout that, I sometimes don’t know my own strength.” Hugo wheezed for air and coughed, “It’s nice to see you too, I see you haven’t lost your touch.”

The large man picked up the stack of contracts and weighed it in his palm. “My, my, I have to say this a larger stack than usual, have you gone soft or have you just lost your touch?”

Hugo avoided the larger man’s inquisitive look and joking smile, “No, I’m just … working with different terms.”

A jovial “Ha” was blasted into the air and the man slapped Hugo across the back, “So what you mean is that HQ decided that you were being too morbid and gave you a recruitment quota. It’s a shame really, it was always entertaining seeing you widdle an entire crowd down to a few candidates.”

The man began looking over the contracts and signed the top contract, “Hey, what the hell are you doing?”

“I’m giving you and your party a speed boost.”

Hugo stared at the man, “I don’t think your signature can threaten to beat people up.” “Well the being the chairman of the Southern Solarian District does add some important weight to my name.” Hugo looked at his friend with shock, “That’s right; gaze upon Chairman Brutus of the GMHO!"

“Wait, your last name is Brutus?”

“No, Brutus is my given name and only name.” Brutus handed back the contracts, “Bring the contracts first thing tomorrow morning and I can guarantee that the office will get the party roster registered within the hour. So enjoy yourself and try to catch the parade. They’re trying make a big show for one of the magi, so it will be fantastic. See ya soon!”

“Fill in all the blanks that ask for your information.” Hugo gave the line jumper a contract and moved her aside, “Hey Morgan, I see you found Felix, I hope he hasn’t tapped anything he shouldn’t have.” Hugo pulled out the remaining contracts, “So I’m assuming you and your friend are here for the sign ups. Cool stuff, just fill out the required spots and we will be —” Hugo was suddenly interrupted by a blast of chilled air as three dark purple pillars of light that came from an expanding pitch black cloud struck the ground a few near the Kriegstein senate. Hugo drew his revolver and scowled, “You have to be shitting me.”

The streets were on fire with black and green flames that flickered from the impact site. The city guards encircled the mass of robed madmen and their ironclad leader. A simple and hollow command echoed from the suit of armor, “Kill them.” A deathly howl rang out from the mass and the mob descended upon the guards like a wave of madness. “Kill them all, kill them in the name of the devourer.” Civilians ran away from the blood thirsty cultists who easily cut them down with their twisted and grotesque blades. “The spell casters and the blood circle is ready. She shall truly have a feast tonight. But, my liege, are you sure they will be able to spill enough blood in order to force the contract?”

A simple and chilling laugh rang from the blackened helm, “If they cannot spill enough, I’m sure that the hot blooded fool will be able to compensate for what will be needed.” “I heard you were talking shit. Dreadlord Ezekiel, it is time for you to atone for your sins against the creations of the life walkers.” The dreadlord turned to face the challenger, “I figured you would show yourself, you sorry excuse for a magi.”

The magi’s face turned crimson red with rage, “This ends now. May your soul burn for all of eternity. Gergamel, GIVE ME STRENGTH!” The magi charged at the dreadlord with a loud and piercing battle cry. After a few minutes of intense fighting the dreadlord jumped back. “Face it Ezechiel, it’s over, you’ve lost!”

A faint chuckle echoed from the dreadlord’s helm, “I would beg to differ; it’s you who has lost.”

The magi stared at the dreadlord in bewilderment, and then it him, he was standing right in the middle of a blood circle. “No, how did you—”

“I’m very careful at spilling my own blood. Well it was fun while it lasted but I’m afraid it's time for you to die. ENCASE!” The magi was suddenly surrounded by ribbons of blood that encircled and bound his body. “May your soul bring nourishment to her body. CRUCIFY!” a large metal spike rose from the ground empaling the magi.

“Damn you Ezech—,” From the sides of the spike shot out two arms that formed the bloody crucifix. The magi’s body squirmed and then exploded into a shower of blood that covered the dreadlord and his spellcasters.

From the mangled corpse emerged the great spirit Gergamel. The spellcasters slammed their staffs into the ground, as the murmured their incantations. Five scarlet ribbons of blood emerged from the bloodied streets and bound the fearful spirit. The dreadlord drew his sword and cut off his right hand. With mock grandeur, he waved the bleeding arm as if he was signing his name on a large sheet of paper. “FORCE CONTRACT!” the spirit howled in pain as its form was being absorbed by the stump of the dreadlord. In a bright flash of light the spirit was gone and the body of the dreadlord was restored. The dreadlord unleashed a maniacal laugh, “I can feel its power course through my veins, my god does this feel wonderful.”

“My liege, would you like to lead the eradication of the city?”

“I have finished my business in this petty sacrifice. Spell casters, we return to our fortress. Message the rest of the group; tell them that they may stay and feast upon the flesh of innocents.” The spell casters nodded and launched a glowing red projectile into the air. The dreadlord raised his sword into the air and they disappeared into the smoky haze, while his minions bore down on city, leaving trails of blood and half eaten corpses.

June 21--10:45 AM
Kergstien, Solarian Empire

Watching the two men bicker with each other, Thomas sighed and looked around; it was still morning, so the hours would go by slowly. "Well, we'll have plenty of time to kill, eh?" he murmured. "Well. I'll be over there, giving my Fans the encore they wanted. If you need me, please wait until the show's over." And he began to walk away, back to where the box of puppets was waiting.

Immediately, the fans cheered, but there were still questions running around about his joining the Magic Hunters. Would they ever give him a rest about it? Thomas sighed and raised his hands to obtain his fans' attention. "I have only decided to seek out the Magic for the good of our Solarian Empire, my friends, as well as our allies across Valderia. That is the best Fan Service...no, the best service at all I could give to this land." Of course, it sounded rather hollow to him, but he tried to ignore that.

However, the puppets had barely risen out of his box when a cold wind burst past him and his fans, causing some to lose their footing--even Thomas had to grab onto the edge of the box to steady himself. Looking up, he saw three pillars of dark purple pillars of light emitting from further down the street, as black clouds swirled high above the city. "What the hell--?"

His bracelet flashed, and he raised it to hear Michael's voice. Most of his fans were looking in the other direction, pointing and gasping in horror at this new spectacle, so he was in no danger of being observed by them. "Thomas, I don't know what's going on, but a great quantity of powerful magic signatures dropped into that area. Something big and bad is happening."

"I can see that, Michael," the puppeteer hissed. Pointing at the puppets, he gestured towards the box, and they flew towards it--but instead of putting themselves away, they instead picked up swords, shields, and spears. "You can do whatever you want--I'm going to ensure my fans are safe," Thomas declared firmly.

Pointing in the other direction, he ordered the crowd of his admirers to head off, and turned back towards the pillars of dark light, as his puppets began to assemble themselves in front of him in defensive postures. "But, man...this is terrifying. It's like a freaking apocalypse right now..." Suddenly, Thomas thought he could see figures clad in dark robes murdering and mutilating all who were unfortunate enough to get caught up in the chaos. Cold sweat dripped down the back of his neck; it now seemed apparent that he was about to be swept up into something terrible.

Valar could only watch, stunned as the scene unfolded before him. He had never before seen such use of magic, so much and so potent. However as soon as the mages vanished he realized that the cultists were still there and they were butchering civilians. He got up on the fountain.

"ALRIGH! LISTEN UP! Those of you with medical expertise or healing power stay by the fountain we'll set up a casualty collection point right here. MARKSMEN! Get some height. You can take out targets and call out points of contact to everyone else. EVERYONE ELSE! Pair up, if you can't fight, find someone who can, or stay here and help the wounded. This is not a drill, lets get it right the first time."

People seemed to snap out of their daze and started to jump to what he told them. He stabbed his finger at the girl with the red scar f and her friend because they seemed to be the only two with rifles. "You two, sharpshooters? With me." He said and started moving towards the tower of a nearby tower. "One of you up there, point and call the shots." Myself and the other will be down on the rooves relaying that to the other parties."

He moved off to his own rooftops. Squeezing off shots as he ran. All of a sudden he was blindsided by a huge hit. He rolled losing his rifle and wound up with a cultist on top of him. They rolled through the street Valar holding a knife away from his face while the slavering cultist tried to plunge it into his eye. He snapped the cultists arm out to the side and headbutted him breaking his nose. After that the cultists insane strength seemed to ebb and Valar picked him up and threw him against a post breaking his spine. What the hell was that?! No way a cultist that small should have been able to over power him, they had the strength of 3 men having been empowered from the magi's.

He got onto his roof and started directing the magic hunters to target clusters.

After giving a bit more of thoughts, Adris had enough about the GMHO. From what he heard and from what he thought, he wasn’t quite convinced to give into a suicidal activity. Besides, he already had something to occupy himself. His job won’t do it itself. Despite that, he decided to enjoy more of the summer solstice festival. He did enjoy it so far; the scent, the colors, the joy in the air and all made his somewhat happy.

He would walk down the streets a bit blindly, but with a small smile on his face. When he found himself down to a plaza. He saw a fountain and walked up to it. He cupped his hand into the water, and bring it close to his face. He needed to hydrate himself after all. Once he threw his head back from this, he heard screams of terror. He looked around as the people looked all at the same direction and pointed up. He did the same. He could no feel the blast of chilled air and the three dark purple pillars of light. He didn’t like this at all.

He turned to the civilians: “Run away! For Sele’s sake, Run!” The civilians look at him in terror first, completely frozen, but it is when he pulled out his gun that they started to run away. Adris sighed, looking back at the spires, then the fountain. He knew something wasn’t right. However, he waited for a bit, making sure it wasn’t just a show the solstice put up.

His confirmation came when some people got out of the streets and some cultist went to feed on them. Adris’ eyes widened a bit, but stayed calm. He looked up at the fountain and bit his lips. He then draw his gun to the cultist and in a swift movement he would press on the trigger, a bullet went direction into the cultist’s head. The mother of the group looked terrified to the deaths of her husband as she held her children close. Adris noticed her to move away, which she did.

Once it was clear, he would bring back his attention to the water. He rose his hands from it. “May my actions won’t be looked upon.” He soon gathered all the water into a giant mass of water. It almost covered all the plaza. He let out a scream of pain as it was hard to keep it in control. He soon threw it towards the spires, which in consequence made waves into the streets. He hoped that his actions would wipe any or those creatures out of the place, and eventually die of drowning. He felt lighter and tired. He reached for his water bottle, which he drank from it. He wasn’t sure what his attack caused for damage.

Afterward, he decided to see if there anybody left around. He started to walk fast since it is the most he could do now. He still heard screams of terror and pain in which helped him to know where they might be. He soon gave up and climbed on some boxes, which stacked to a roof top. From there he would take one of his gun and aim down towards the mass of noise. His vision was a bit blurred and his aim wasn’t very good. Despite that, he still took the risk as he shoot towards the mass of cultist, noticing that he wasn’t sure if any of his shoots reached them. After he emptied his magazines, he would fall unconscious there with his exhaustion finally reaching him.

Kai had barely scribbled her name down on the contract when it happened. At first, she couldn’t see what was going on. All she could see was a purple glow through the crowd. Then all hell broke loose.
First came the screams, the terrified sounds of fleeing civilians. Then shortly later, the sounds of battle. It was all a blur as a few brave souls and many of the group around the table began to combat the grotesque cultists. The contract slipped from her fingers as Kai ran out into the square, trying to assess the situation through the chaos.
Kai heard the hiss of breath behind her and her body reacted before she could even process who it might me. She whirled around and crouched into a fighting stance. It was a cultist, holding a crooked blade that made her spine tingle. Adrenaline pumped into her bloodstream.
The cultist lunged at her, hissing and whirling his blade. Kai allowed her instinct to take over. She stepped to the side, dodging the blade, while simultaneously grasping his wrist with a vicious twist. She used his forward momentum to drive her knee into his gut before he could react, executed a perfect arm bar and drove him to the ground. In one smooth motion she twisted his blade from his fingers and drove it into his throat with all the strength she could muster.
Before she could even take another breath, she felt a heavy hand on her shoulder grab her and hurl her to the ground like a ragdoll. Her breath escaped from her lungs forcefully. She looked up. Another cultist, except this one was bigger. And he was a magic wielder. He raised his hand, and Kai just barely rolled out of the way just as a fireball exploded where her face had been. She rolled quickly to her feet, still gasping for breath, and dodged another fireball. This was bad. She couldn't get close. All she could do was dodge.
Thick sweat dripped off her body. She new she couldn't keep this up much longer. Kai wasn't one to back down from a fight, but she also wasn't a big fan of dying.

Well his marksmen had split up and the group was scattered all over the city, each fighting individual battles. Despite all that they were holding their own, well mostly. Finally having made his way to the rooftops he could see most of the individual battles. He had covered the Orc for a while but she appeared to be doing just fine by herself so he had moved on to trying to cover civilians. It was hard work though from up high and he had to be quick a couple times, he was trying to direct them to the square. However it was proving impossible from the rooftop. "Aww bloody hells" He descended down to street level slinging his rifle across his back as he did so. It would be the knife and pistol for the close work.

He slipped by several groups of cultists hiding behind stalls and under carts. Just as he was coming to a T-intersection he saw a group o cultists running down a mother and two children. Whelp, no time to be dainty, he needed to go in mob handed. He built up to a sprint running at where the cultists would be and threw himself through the air bringing down all 4 cultists. The next few seconds were a havoc of pain(some of it his), blood (the same), and ultimately death (not his). His head hurt from breaking a cultists nose and the wound in his shoulder was seeping some but all in all, he actually seemed to be alright.

He herded them back to the square and then ran off looking for more. He moved slowly now, rifle out, checking his corners as he crossed in case of ambush. Walking in a low crouch he swept his rifle side to side scanning the now seemingly empty streets. All of a sudden rounding a corner he saw a magic wielder tossing fireballs at a girl, she was doing an effective job of dodging but was beginning to tire. Valar, still moving forward in the low crouch, squeezed off a couple shots. To his shock and dismay they ricocheted of some form of magical protection. However it had the desired effect of catching the cultists attention causing his next spell to fizzle. However Valar quickly got more than he bargained for as the cultist then tossed a fireball his way.

Lucious’ pleasant stretch of daydreaming was jolted from him when he heard a gunshot ring out. That sounded really close… he thought. Too close… Lucious got up from his position and began to walk towards where the gunshot had originated from.

As he rounded a corner, he saw a mage cultist in a quarrel with the nord and the Tekker girl. The Tekker girl appeared unarmed, and the mage was in the middle of flinging a fireball at the nord. Luckily, the cultist was unaware of Lucious’ presence.

First things first he thought sending a gust of powerful wind to intercept the cultist’s fireball. The wind blew the fireball off course and it smashed into the side of a building instead, sending it aflame. oops

As the cultist turned to face him, Lucious could make out the outlines of some sort of magical shield that the mage was using. It seemed to him that the barrier was actually a tornado of sorts surrounding the cultist. It could effectively fling away any bullets and any fireballs he could fling in it’s direction.

Luckily, the solution to this was simple. A tornado is formed by the tangling of hot and cold air, if someone were to tip the balance of the two types of air, the tornado would cease to exist. Wind it is then Lucious thought.

The cultist sent a flurry of fireballs in Lucious’ direction, which he deflected by raising a powerful gust of wind in front of himself. Lucious thought this out this time, and the fireballs rocketed into the air. This is it Lucious formed a cold compressed air pocket with his hands, which he released in the direction of the cultist.

The compressed air sped towards the cultist, who in turn tried to strengthen his “shield” by concentrating on feeding it the air that it needed. Luckily, it wasn’t enough and the cold air punched right into the tornado, tipping the balance. Some of the cold air even made it to the cultist, who was knocked down.

Now, if that nord has any sense, he’ll take the chance to shoot. But just in case, the half elf’s hands found the familiar geography of his Deringer dual barrel pistol. The cultist was outside of it’s effective range, but a little wind manipulation could fix that. He cocked the hammer and waited impatiently for the nord to react.

As the fireball came flying at him Valar threw himself flat only to see the fireball deflect and smash in to a house. He rolled as a flaming timber came smashing down where his head was getting to his feed he saw the cultists shield dissipate. He seemed to be looking around for the source of his troubles, Valar drew his Obrezst pistol. Basically a sawn off rifle it was a giant, ugly, large caliber pistol. Walking forward in his shooters crouch he shot. One, Two, Three, Four times as the mans body still standing jerked and twitched. He looked for his rifle found it and jogged over to the girl who had been fighting this man.

"You, ok?"

Fear, blood, flesh, and chaos. Truly this effigy and orgy of violence should appease her. The three cultists relished themselves in the moment as they approached the closing gates. The guardsmen unleashed a hail of gunfire to slow their advance as they desperately moved to close the massive gates. With a loud clang the gates were sealed and the remaining guards men beckoned their comrades on the top of the gates to let down the escape lines. Panic quickly turned to desperation as the three cultist showed no signs of stopping, even though they should have been very dead. The center cultists smiled and stopped his brethren, “Leave these pathetic mortals to me.” The other two stepped back and smiled as they watched the blubbering guards screamed for their comrades to save them.

The cultist’s eyes began glowing a deep red as the flesh under his skin began squirming. The pain from his bones realigning themselves was gut wrenching and he could feel the skin strain to contain the rapidly growing muscle. The cultist unleashed an ear piercing cry which was drowned out by rising blood as the skin burst open to make way for his new and terrifying body. He was now a large and bulky testament to limitless strength and raw flesh with arms that were twice their original size. The guards trembled in terror as the crimson mass charged through their new hail of bullets unscathed. The hulking beast tore them apart as if they were made of soggy tissues and disposed of their mutilated bodies in his gaping mouth.

The behemoth wiped the blood from his mouth and turned to face the massive steel crucifix that occupied the center of the city, “Do you think there is more flesh to consume near the ground zero?” “Of course, now lets get there before the others eat more than their own share.”

They were oh so close, but the pack must have caught their scent. Just one more block to the crucifix and to the rendezvous point. Brutus shoved the shotgun into the cultist's mouth and unloaded both rounds. The cultist's head exploded, releasing a torrent of blood and brains. Brutus reached into the opened head cavity and ripped out a strange throbbing organ. Brutus stared at it for a short while and crushed it in his hand. The body of the cultist suddenly burst into harmless green fire and all remnants of the cultist vanished without a trace. Brutus smirked and turned turned to his personal kill team, "Make sure you destroy their synapse or they won’t stay dead for long.”

Brutus ejected the two shell as he walked up to the cold and bloody steel crucifix that towered above him. “It’s a damn shame, he was the better man. He deserved better than this.” One of the remaining veteran hunters ran up to him, “Sir the city has been sealed and word is that the purge squads are already on their way.” Brutus scowled as he reloaded,

“Well is the train company holding true to their word?” The veteran nodded, “The Eleven O’clock will be fifteen minutes late, but it will it still arrive. They said that the longer we can hold the station the longer the train will wait. But chairman, are you sure about the deal with the governor, he could use go back on his word and prevent the train from leaving the city.” Brutus smiled, “I doubt he will, after all he will want us alive to fulfill our end of the bargain. Where’s Tellus? We need to hook up to the city broadcasting system.” The veteran hung his head, “He’s dead, got nailed by a bone spike.” Brutus’s eyes widened, “They’re already shifting? Well god damn, they’re getting better at mutating themselves. Well is the radio still intact?”

The veteran nodded and handed Brutus the microphone, “Tellus hooked it all up before he bled out, he said that we needed to get the message out.” Brutus sighed, “Let’s not let his death be in vain,” Brutus turned to face the remaining Hunters with him, “Remember guys the survivors won’t be the only ones hearing it, so lets be prepared for the worst.” Brutus raised the microphone to his mouth and waited for the operator to give him the go ahead, “Attention all living members of the intelligent races,” Brutus paused to listen his voice being echoed and projected by the city.

“Due to the presence of a dark cult the city has been sealed off and placed under quarantine. All gates have been sealed and a magical barrier has been placed around the city preventing any other means of conventional escape. That being said there will be an escape vessel arriving at the central train station within thirty minutes. Due to the violent nature of the cult the train will not be able to stay for very long, that is why we recommend that all survivors make their way to the central station as quickly as possible. To all hunters and contractees, protocol twenty-four has been invoked and the Solarians will be handling the extermination. Utmost caution is recommended against all cultists and it is best to avoid to engagement. And remember, it isn’t dead if the body is still there.”

Hugo quickly gathered his things and hung the heating mechanism on his waist. Felix hopped off Morgan’s shoulder and stared at Hugo, “So what’s the plan?” Hugo inserted a mana canister into the the heater and slung his duffle bag over his shoulder. “The main goal is to get out of the city and not die.”

Hugo pulled out his grenade pistol and picked up one of the supposed corpse. Hugo shoved the pistol into the mouth of the cultist and fired, completely destroying the head. The body soon dissolved into a green flame and Hugo put his away the pistol,

“Hope you folks were paying attention, cause shit just got real. For those who aren't familiar with the concept of quarantine and or the significance of protocol twenty-four allow me to explain. It means that the whole of the designated area will be sealed off and due to protocol twenty-four, the entire hazard area will be deemed a dead zone and all living organisms within the dead zone will be made dead.”

“Usually the GMHO takes care of the extermination, but unluckily for us the Solarians are taking charge. Which means we have to get the hell out of this city. Of course you can test your luck and stay. But in the end you will have make a choice. Do want to be eaten alive or do you want to be incinerated. But hey if dying a horrible death is really your thing then fine by me, I ain’t gonna judge. But for those of you who want to live I recommend that you listen to my every direction. The central train station is about ten blocks from where we stand, we will be able to get there before the train arrives if we don’t attract too much attention. It’s best to leave now this area now while the cultists divert their attention. Gather your things and make sure we’re not leaving anyone behind, after all there is safety in numbers.”

Kai~

The huge Nord fired four solid shots at the cultist mage. The cultist jerked back and forth with each shot, like a broken doll, before he collapsed. The Nord jogged over to her.
"You ok?"
Kai brushed herself off, still breathing hard. "I'm in one piece. Thanks." That was a close call.
Just then a voice broadcast through microphone all over the city. It told everyone that could to get to the station as fast as possible, or they were going to die a horrible death. Apparently the Solarians were taking over the extermination. Kai grumbled under her breath, but she knew it was inevitable. They were going to die if they stayed in the city.
However, it was a ways to the station, and a dangerous trip, especially with the cultists still raging. A sudden fear washed over Kai that they wouldn't make it, and would be exterminated. Then it was replaced by a numb determination.
Kai turned to the Nord. "We should stick together."
Then she cracked her knuckles and ran off in the direction of the train station.

Lucious watched as nord ran to the teker girl. That was when he heard the announcement. The nord and the girl ran off as the lead filled cultist stood once again, a mutated mess. "Not even a thank you..." he thought. But it really was rude to run off like that, after all the two couldn't have won the fight without him. "Oh well, I guess I'll just have to remind them later. I have a bigger problem at hand."

As the cultist got ready to release some sort of magical attack at the half-elf, he quickly did some hot/cold wind manipulation to get the air around him to blur. He then immediately cloaked himself within the shadows, leaving the re-born cultist stunned. Lucious ran as fast as he could away from there, trying to keep up with the nord and the girl. I hope they're going the right way, I can't even find my own way anymore. Everything just looks like burning buildings and mutated cultists."

Lucious decided to find out for himself, so he uncloaked some distance away from the two before catching up to and greeting them. "So," he began, "do you two perhaps happen to know where the train station is?"

Valar spun down into a crouch leveling his weapon in the direction of the voice. He jerked his gun up as he saw someone who wasn't a cultist. "Hellfire, where'd you come from? Anyways, doesn't matter, we think the train station is this way. At least that's the direction everyone seems to be running in. If you've got a gun and can shoot we need you with us. We were just gonna head right for the station, blow up anything that's in our direct path and try and get out of here alive. But given that I have no experience with this type of osik, I'm more than welcoming suggestions at the moment."

Kai Ember~
Kai was just as surprised as Valar when the Elf-like man caught up to them. Even in the chaos he moved quickly and quietly.
"Hellfire, where'd you come from?" Valar said.
Needless to say, Kai didn't have much experience with rabid bloodthirsty mutating cultists either.
She had come into this city hoping for an adventure, for an escape from the mediocrity of her life. She thought she had been ready for this. Why had she though she was ready? Because she could throw a mean left hook and had won a few bar fights? Kai wanted to go back in time and slap herself for her arrogance. She wasn't ready for this. In fact, she was terrified.
She swallowed it hard. She pushed the fear away and kept her cool. Just as she was about to take off again for what she hoped was the direction of the station, she heard a clatter, a loud scream, shortly followed by a faint splash. She looked sharply off in the direction of the sound.
There was an uncovered manhole in the street, and she looked just in time to see the blur of a bicycle and a flash of pink hair fall into the hole.
Wait- a manhole. An idea suddenly occurred to her.
She darted for the hole, gesturing for Valar and Lucious to follow. She swung her legs inside the manhole and scurried down the ladder just in time to see the pink haired kid with the bicycle get up out of the putrid water and begin to walk away.
"Oi! Mr. Pink-hair!" She called, not knowing his name. "Wait for us!"

Maybe such a sneaky approach wasn't the best idea after all. The nord spun and leveled his weapon at Lucious, but when he seemed to realize that he wasn't a cultist, he lowered the rifle. "Think?" But before Lucious could reply, his thought were interrupted by a man's scream followed by a splash. Lucious jerked his head towards the direction of the noise to see something fall inside a open manhole. Suddenly, the Teker girl gestured for Lucious and the nord to follow her as she disappeared inside the manhole herself.

Lucious hesitated, but the motivation of the mutated cultist tearing apart multiple bodies not too far from where he was was enough for Lucious to follow. As he made his way down the ladder the putrid stench became very prominent and Lucious could barely keep his stomach. As he reached the bottom he heard the Teker girl shout, "Oi! Mr. Pink-hair! Wait for us!" As Lucious looked around to try and get his bearings of the place, he soon realized that the lighting down here was in fact, very poor. "Nothing a little magic can't fix." His eyesight began to lighten up, as if someone was slowly turning on the lights.

He soon caught up with the Teker girl, and gestured to wait for the nord. The reassurance of his gigantic build, not to mention his weaponry would be nice to have.

Valar turned back from the street he had been covering to see everyone jumping down a manhole. Not quite sure what was going on but well aware that the streets were no place to be caught out by himself he ran over to join them. He dropped into the hole catching himself on the edge with one hand. Still holding himself in the air by one hand he swept the tunnel with his rifle in the other. Finding it clear of threats he allowed himself to drop down to the sewer. All of a sudden he heard barking up above and he called out. "Chester, CHESTER! Here boy." An enormous dog came running and jumped down the hole right into Valars arms. Then he reached up and arm straining pulled the grate closed over them sealing them into the preternatural gloom of the sewer.

Their party had seemingly acquired a new member while they were on the run but Valar couldn't worry about that right now. He squinted around to try and see but was having a hard time of it. However he suddenly noticed the skinny elf casting some sort of cantrip and his vision began to lighten up.

"Thanks" he said as he walked past him to the front of the group. He put his hand on the small girls shoulder giving it a comforting squeeze as he removed his pistol from his belt. He turned to face her holding out the gun, even though it was a pistol it looked huge for her hands. "Do you know how to use one of these?" he asked her, she looked up at him and nodded. "Good, stay right behind me one hand on my shoulder, person behind you has one hand on your shoulder, the last thing we want is to get separated down here." He checked his compass, lined up and he heard the girl passing on his advice. Then a small warm hand settled on his shoulders. It was time to move out. He signaled Chester to take the lead knowing the dogs nose would be able to sniff out cultists before they could. "Oya Chester, let's hunt" he muttered to himself as he moved off in a shooters crouch.

It was slow going having to move carefully, checking each corner they had no idea where there could be cultists, but they had found a rythm and started to pick up speed. He didn't know how far they'd come but it was time to check where they were. He held up a closed fist signalling the others to stop and removed a grate from the ceiling. He knelt and cupped his hands, gesuting that the girl should step in so he could lift her up and check. Hopefully she saw good things.

Adris wasn’t so sure about who or what grabbed him at first. He squirmed a bit, thinking it may be one of their enemies. However, he soon made the connection about the cold metal that he could feel. With the fact that he could now see one’s face, he was reassured. Although, he never thought once someone could held him in such position, but he didn’t doubt what this being could do. Either way, he weighed on what the robot said, feeling that it was a bit rude from him to refuse the protection he offered.

However, taking a look back of the situation, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to see the facts; despite his attempts to slow down the cultist, they still gain terrain on them. With the limited dome, they couldn’t move faster than him, which was a downer since he couldn’t run faster than that kid on a bicycle. He let a small sigh of relief as all the water stopped to flow at once. The once burden to be moving that quantity of mass gone.

“I guess you’re right, after all…” He said towards him as he looked towards Michael. He knew that he probably had more chance on his own. Adris didn’t expect for him to fall into the manhole however, gasping a bit as he was about to say something towards him, but he shut himself when he saw that there were more people entering into the sewers, and even a dog. Then, it got closed. He frowned a bit as he looked back onto the robot. “Well, guess it is the two of us.” He ironized, but he was truly curious who would actually arrive first. He would let the thing carry him. He would run, but he wondered also if it didn’t have any trick up it sleeves as well.

If Gainsboro’s face plate were to able to show emotions, this would be one of those times.
Right after he spotted the cycling lad tumble into an open manhole, a ragtag group of three and a dog also jumped into it, and promptly closed it off. He wanted to open it again and follow after them, but had no time as the pursuing group of cultists, and another group of cultists, perhaps led to them by those three, zeroed in upon the two. With considerable regret, he took off into the direction they were previously going.

“Well, guess it is the two of us.” Gainsboro grunted in affirmation. “I sincerely hope he’ll make it to the station in time, and didn’t get shanked by those three, or by cultists. Speaking of cultists, i can’t seem to shake them off.” That was not entirely true. For several blocks they had followed him, he’d manage to lose that particular group, only to later on run into another, and needing to repeat his steps a few times.

Another problem was that he no longer really knew where he was going, since he hadn’t the time to closely observe his surroundings. He began to become more and more desperate as time went on. Eventually he ran into a dead ending street, with a bunch of cultists at the end, gorging themselves on cadavers, people they had most likely slaughtered themselves. Gainsboro and the man he had been carrying all the while, still found themselves at the start of the street when the feasting cultists took note of them, and started coming for them with their bloodcrazed grins.

Gainsboro found himself at an impasse. He couldn’t go back, nor forward. He couldn’t spot any immediate alley’s either. looking into the distance he spotted a stairway to the left of him, with simple but sturdy looking railings, and a wide light pole, that was somewhat close to the brick wall of the house. Having become truly desperate, he made a run for the stairs. “Hold on tight friend, i’ll attempt to jump up on the roof of that house over there.”

As he ran, the stairs came ever closer, but so did the cultists in front of him. They weren’t fast enough however, as he was already climbing- no sprinting up the stairs as they came in reach.
He kicked of with his left feet when he hit the last tread. He pushed off the railing with his right for extra lift and momentum towards the wall of the house. With a swift kick from his left, he directed himself towards the light pole. Gainsboro pulled his legs a bit towards his chest, as he would need both his legs for the final push. He wasn’t sure if he was going to make it, but even then he’d be able to at least throw the guy up there. At last his feet touched upon the light pole, and with a twist towards the left, and with all the power he could muster, he jumped towards the roof.

Kai Ember ~

Although she had called after the pink-haired boy, he must of been too far ahead, because he didn't turn back. He seemed to have ran on ahead. Kai didn't have time to worry about it for too long though. She felt a hand squeeze her shoulder and turned. The tall Nord offered her a pistol and asked her if she knew how to use it. She nodded. She had learned how to use one in her short lived and unfortunate time in the Ulteris military academy back home. She accepted the pistol - it was probably a good idea. Even though she was good with martial arts, a gun was probably more useful in this situation. As per his advice, she put her hand on his shoulder, and the group traveled in a line with the big dog - Chester - sniffing up ahead. Crouched and careful, they moved as quickly as could be expected in a dark sewer pipe. Every echo and drip caused them to pause and listen for the cultists. Sometimes Kai though she heard an ominous shuffling, but it always seemed to disappear.
After a little ways the Nord signaled for them to stop. He opened a manhole above them and cupped his hands for Kai to step up to look out. She stepped up onto his hands and he hoisted her up to look out of the manhole. She looked around, desperately looking for the train station. She just poked the top of her head through to remain as inconspicuous as possible. Chaos still reined in the streets. She ducked as a mutated cultist, hissing and screeching, lumbered past. She poked her head up again, holding her breath. Then she saw it - not too far and not too close, but in view - was what appeared to be the train station. It was a tall building, with stairs and columns and arched doors leading into a long dome-like structure. Kai could see train tracks leading into and out of the domed building. The building looked beautiful in a worn, old way. She saw groups of people desperately pushing through the arches and into the station. Best of all, she saw a manhole not too far from the stairs leading up to the station. If they made it that far, they would be within 20 feet of the train station. They just had to make it before the train left.
Kai dropped back down into the tunnel and relayed what she saw to the group.

The giant man finally caught up with them. "Thanks" the nord said passing them.

"Thanks for what?" Lucious pondered. Then he felt a wave of drowsiness hit him. Not to the point of collapsing, but similar to that of coming off of a caffeine high. "Oh no..." He had accidentally cast a different type of spell, in which it granted all persons in his general area the ability to see in darkness instead of just him. Of course, some would say this is better, since it grants more people visibility. However, more people, means more magic. This spell will take much more energy than the alternative.

The nord handed the Teker a pistol as they continued. And as the ragtag group progressed through the putrid stench, the nord opened up one of the covers and lifted to girl so that she could see what was going on outside. Apparently, they weren't far from the train station, and it wouldn't take long before they would arrive. "Thank the heavens." Lucious thought. They were going to live.

"Let us continue to the safe haven" Lucious said aloud. "With haste, if you please." He gestured with his hands to add emphasis.

Valar lowered the girl back down and grinned as he learned what she had seen. "OK, we're really close we're taking the next sewer outta here boy" he said petting Chester. The girl lead the way towards the next tunnel with everyone trotting eagerly behind her. He opened the sewer hatch right under the train station. He started to lift the girl up through the manhole. "Keep the gun" he said "You can give it back to me on the train." He handed Chester up out of the tunnel and he was so happy to be out that he bounded around and even tried to lick the other people who had been in the tunnel with him. They were finally out of the tunnels. They were finally at the station. Time to get the hell out of here
