Description

Watch-Captain Caspar Ortik
Race: Half-Elf
Height: 6'9
Weight: 190lbs
Build: Well-muscled.

Physical Description:
Caspar's heritage has contributed more to his appearance than anything else. His elfin mother gave him his height and fine bone structure, along with his almost unnatural speed and hand-eye coordination. His human father gave him strength and determination, the true grit to survive in a hostile environment. His facial features are another product of his ancestry, the haughty glare and regal structure of an elf, melding with the hooked nose and hooded brow of a human. His hair fans out behind his head, a greasy cascade of brown, threaded with grey.

Caspar dresses plainly in calf skin breeches and tall leather boots, a light linen shirt and a padded jacket with leather ties for mail and armour. Over this, he wears a heavy wool hooded cloak, embroidered with the sigil of his city on midnight blue.

Scars/Tattoos:
During his youth, Caspar thoroughly embraced his elfin heritage, spending several years among the tribe his mother originated from. Unusually, they welcomed him as one of his own, and he became a fully fledged member of their warrior caste, and he bears the tattoos to this day. Broad, twisting lines begin under his eyes, curling back down the line of his cheekbones to the nape of his neck, spreading across his shoulders and encircling his arms like vines around a tree trunk. As the lines reach his heart and hands, letters of elven script are emblazoned in red against the soft blue, magical wards of protection and strength.

Super-imposed over the elfin tattoos on his neck is the knotted scar of a brand, one planted to warn others of his use of wytchery, and the association with elf-kind. This was applied by an errant bounty-hunter who captured him during his time with the elves. At the back of his neck, half-buried in his pale skin is his Watch-beacon, a tiny capsule of magefire that gives him the power of command over golems and other constructs, whilst providing as a summons to other beacons should he be critically injured.

Equipment:
Caspar's equipment is simple, and without ornamentation. A hauberk of scale-mail hanging to his waist, with steel half-plate covering his heart. The plate is battered and scarred by battle, matching the pauldrons and vambraces cinched about his upper and lower arms. A gorget set into a rounded steel plate protects his throat and jaw, with attached mounting points for the steel half-helm with it's protruding nose-guard and sweeping crown.

Over his armour, he wears his heavy wool cloak, which helps to disguise the weaponry and armour, making him somewhat less threatening in his day-to-day patrols around the city.

Since the rise of the Esoterics, Caspar's main weapon against crime in the city has become the magefire lantern, a roughly cylindrical glass case surrounded by intricate metalwork, containing both brass and steel, sweeping up to a handle styled as two intertwined dragon heads. Suspended in the center of the case is a lump of burning magefire, casting out an eerie blue light in all directions. A set of cogs and wheels set into the base allow it to be focused into a searing beam capable of blinding anyone who looks into it.

Caspar's sword is a thing of beauty, a work of art as much as a weapon. Crafted by elfin smiths, the blade curves subtly away from the guard, giving it cutting power unobtainable by the city's straight blades. The grip is cut from ivory, worked with vine patterns, merging with the runes of power delicately etched into the bright meteoric steel of the blade.

The repeating crossbow is the pride of the city watch and Valon's talented engineers. A short lever action mechanism cycles the string, opening a cavity which loads a fresh bolt into the weapon. Caspar's weapon is brutish and functional, the nose carved in the visage of a screaming eagle.

So begins...
