Name: Matthias Vanderhugh
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Appearance: With slumping shoulders and messy hair, Matthias isn't the type to care much for his looks. Tall at around 6'4", he seems smaller thanks to his constant slouch. His constant habit of ruffling his nest long, chestnut hair does little to tidy his appearance, making him seem a bit sloppier if anything. Matthias has a light spray of freckles and dark circles beneath his eyes. His thick eyebrows are constantly furrowed into an expression of someone thinking deeply heightened by his expressive hazel eyes. He favors oversized sweaters and old jeans, and occasionally wears a pair of glasses as he's a tad shortsighted.
Personality: A bookish young man, Matthias is a meek individual who favors the company of books than people. He's friendly, if awkward, and cares more for the happiness of other's than his own. He's trusting to a fault and tries to see the good in people, but this has led to him being seen as a doormat and get frequently walked over. Despite this, he holds grudges against slights made against his family and friends, and can be surprisingly sly when the occasion arises. Matthias holds a bad habit of daydreaming, tending to ramble when lost in his thoughts.
History: Born in 1998, Matthias was raised with his little sister, June, in a little farm. His parents seemingly always gone for work, the two were brought up by their grandparents. Their childhood was humble, but pleasant. Fond memories consisted of helping around the lot, taking care of the animals and tending to the garden. Though life was calm, it was a monotonous cycle that lapsed on throughout the years.
Matthias got his love for reading from his grandfather, who was an avid collector of books and was more than happy to share his collection. Reading became Matthias little escape from his day to day life. He often snuck away inbetween chores to secret hiding spots, though he was always caught.
However, this peaceful living didn't last. When the two were older, June was diagnosed with cancer. It was a sudden shock to all the family. With this diagnoses, the siblings returned to living in the city with their parents so that June could receive the proper treatment. June assured Matthias that everything would be alright, and he believed her. At first. As the months passed and June got ever sicker, he began to believe her less and less. Throughout it all, Matthias read. He read novels, and memoirs, and even medical texts as if he could find the cure.
But the answer came from more surprising sources. Manera appeared before Matthias one night at the hospital, promising a proper life for June. One without the worry of sickness or pain or the constant beeps of machinery surrounding her. And Matthias accepted without a second of hesitation.
It was called a miracle when the doctors arrived and discovered June seemingly healthy. How or why, they couldn't find out. But Matthias knew. Eventually, June was released and, aside from the occasional visit to the doctor, everything had mostly returned to normal.
And so, the longest, shortest year of Matthias' life passed, until he awoke in the House of Dreams.
Your animal form: The Barn Owl. Pale and silent, the barn owl prefers hiding in quiet places whilst flying over in wide, open areas. They have a unique, disclike face and large dark eyes, with a distinct sounding call. The owl is a symbol of wisdom and ancient knowledge--a fit for someone so keen on reading. They're known to be silent fliers, with eyes that can see through the dark, sharp hearing that can track prey, and strong talons for attacking. However, owls are prone to being frightened very easily.
Any other skills: Matthias is knowledgeable on history, and knows theoretical information on medicine. Doing anything medical, however, is another thing in general. He's a fast learner, and surprisingly strong from his time on the farm.
