Cianna Miller was up to her usual tricks again as she peaked up from a crate in an alley way that led onto Wing City Market. It was lunch time and the place was bustling with people looking at all different things. Cianna had her eye on one particular stall of interest. Jewelery. She stole from a few stalls for herself. Sometimes she would try to sell stuff on herself, but she loved pretty stuff. And food.

Her and Nix needed food too. She was hungry.

"Look. That stall there. You distract them while I take things." She told Nix her plan.

She spoke to the empty space beside her. Nothing was there and it looked like a girl was just talking to herself or an imaginary friend. After all, she was only six years old or so. Once Nix had agreed with her, they moved to the stall, pushing between the throngs of people.

"Now Nix..."

Something took the stall owner to the other side of the stall and Cianna started grabbing at jewelery.

"Thief!" Someone yelled.

"Nix!" Cianna shouted.

Immediately she started pushing past people, stealing an orange and apple from the next food stall she came across. No one seemed to get their hands on the pair. They were looking for this 'Nix' she'd shouted. And she managed to escape into another side alley, sitting down on a step to a house and emptying her hands and pockets of the days' 'earnings'.

3619. Connect to Extor. Package Waiting.

The command flashes briefly across the visual interface, registering for the automated achieve. Dark books grind to a halt, and one grey-gloved hand twitches silently.

Package Download Complete. Hired to Private Contract. Locate Subject. Secure. Transport as Necessary. Maintain Reasonable Discretion.

Information scrolls past the visual interface, logging itself efficiently within the central processor core, allowing feet to begin moving again. The latest time stamp was less than two minutes ago, the target's location was in his immediate vicinity. Likely why he'd been assigned the task.

Initiating Limiter Upgrades.

That was more problematic. Not painful, even as he was capable of processing such a thing, but distinctly bizarre as the Extor server modified his settings appropriate to the Customer Requirements.

Disturbance Detected.

He ran.

At the same moment that 3619 received the instructions, indeed on the same spot, a young man stops in the centre of the street. For a moment, his gaze listless, elsewhere... a daydreamer, perhaps. He appears to snap out of it, however, and... perhaps forgetful, turns back the way he's come and breaks into a determined sprint. "Sorry!" The words pass his lips with such speed that it's impossible for any one of the fifty people he barges past to identify the moment that he spoke them at all.

A series of quick turns brings him down a set of alleyways and straight into the lion's den. Dark hair briefly falls before his eyes as he scans the scene before him, locating in it's midst the apparent cause of all the upheaval. A few quick sidesteps, a dash or two, brings him to within arms reach of the girl, and one hand descends with deceptive speed towards her shoulder. Fingers wrapped in smooth grey wool tighten upon the limb until he can be certain she's going nowhere.

"Stupid Child. Did I not tell you to wait?"

Blue eyes glance up at her pursuers, his head tilting in silent apology. "My Niece. She's eager. What does she owe?"

Cianna had been so lost in her thoughts. Her green eyes sparkling down at her goodies that she'd not even heard Nix warn her about someone approaching. It all happened so fast and then she'd been grabbed and she saw three stall owners standing there glaring at her. She pushed her dirty red hair out of the way. It looked like she hadn't washed in weeks. Her face was as muddy as her clothes and it was hard to tell what her original colouring was - skin and clothes.

"HEY! Nix! Get him!" Cianna ordered.

Nothing happened though. The stall owners glared at the man that claimed to be the uncle. "Make sure she stays away. We've been trying to catch her all year. She's banned from here. She owes at least a thousand from the amount she's stolen from us."

"It dropped on the floor. Finders keepers, losers weepers." Cianna retorted.

"Next time, we're calling the cops. Give us our money. She can keep that stuff. But she's not to come here again. And when taking her own I'd keep the rat on a leash." He added.

"I'm not a rat. Nix! Get them!" She looked to her left, expecting something to get them.

Nothing happened. "NIX!"

"And get her head checked out while you're at it. She's obviously delusional. And remember, we want our money so you better come and pay us what she owes or we call the police and have them deal with it." With that, the stall owners stalked away, expecting the man to come and pay at some point for his niece's theft.

The young man looks down at the girl firmly pinned by his hand, and in one movement reaches down and wraps an arm around her waist, hoisting her to his hip as easily as he would a toddler. The hold was, for all to see, as affectionate and caring- if irate- as any uncle might bestow upon a troublesome niece. Firm, but gentle.

In truth, should the child try to escape, she'd find the arm entirely immovable, locked around her with all the comfort and grace of a steel bar. The torso he braced her against was no more yielding, and were she to begin to study the man who had quite quickly taken her into custody, she'd fined that here and there he bore strange, pale scars... along the line of his jaw, from one side to the other. Down from behind his ear to the v of his collarbone. Around the ridge of his hairline. Each were identical in their severity- barely noticeable except for one so close- and as fine as a scalpel cut.

He takes several quick steps after the venders, his hand reaching into the pocket on the opposite side of his body from his darling 'niece'. "I apologise. On behalf of our family." His fingers come out holding a slim, but notable, folded stack of bills. "Divide it as appropriate." He'd turn without waiting for their response and begins to walk in the opposite direction, all the while making entirely certain that whatever she does do, Cianna Miller, Age 6, does not escape his grasp.

Cianna screamed at the top of her lungs after struggling to try and get out of the man's grip. Nothing worked. She kicked, hit, punched, screamed, even bit him in an attempt to get out of his grip. She looked back at Nix who was tagging along behind them.

"You traitor! You just let them take me, Nix. You didn't protect me! You promised you would! You promised!" She screamed at whatever was behind him. Though should he turn, nothing would be there.

She was too young, and too busy fighting her captor. "Put me down, or I'll scream." And even as she did scream the most people did was cover their ears. They all knew Cianna. She'd been stealing and tormenting the market for a long time and so none of them made an effort to see if she was okay. They just assumed that family had finally been called in to take care of the unruly child.

"NIX! I said get him!" This time, Nix did charge and Cianna smiled. But all the man would feel was maybe a cold breeze travel through him, nothing more.

This only caused Cianna to get more wound up. "You better not be taking me back to that home." She was referring to the children's home she'd ran away from months ago. "I'll run away again. I'll keep running away until they can't find me again!" She threatened.

Blunt Force Damage Detected. Unit 3619 Specify Threat Level?

Passive Threat. No Action Required.

Acknowledged.

The child's thrashing does nothing to deter her 'Uncle', indeed if he paid any notice at all it was hard to see. As she began to scream, however, there is a twitch that runs through his features, the beginnings of an expression.

Reduce Input Right Ear to 40%

The obnoxious barrage of sound is immediately reduced to more manageable levels, and while the firm, rhythmic cadence of his steps does not change in any measurable way, they do seem a bit lighter despite themselves. The impact of... whatever it was... entirely fails to register against any of his internal sensors, and slowly a small, mirco-smile begins to flutter around the corner of his lips, and it is only when he glances at her that he realises she has resorted to speaking, at him rather than shrieking.

After a moment's thought, he reloops the feed through his processor, and glances to her. "Why?" It does, after all, seem like an entirely appropriate question for the child. "What will screaming accomplish in this scenario?" He seems genuinely interested in her input, for children were far less prone to following the statistical liklihoods defined by their elders, and as such represented somewhat of a aberrant interest to Androids. Or to 3619, at least. But then, that might have been the programming.

He checks the log in the infinite number of micro-seconds it takes her to formulate an answer.

Yes. It was part of the Customer Package. Intriguing.

Allowing her time to think upon his question, he in turn answers one of hers. "I have no intention of returning you to your previous residence. You are coming with me." It is delivered in an entirely deadpan fashion. After all, it is the truth.

Cianna didn't take long to formulate an answer. She was still struggling in his arms, trying to get him to put her down. "Screaming will make you put me down. Everyone else puts me down. And you better or I'll scream again. Better still, Nix will eat ya! He's good at eating people. He'll protect me. He wants you to put me down. Now!" Cianna demanded, struggling and hitting her small hands against his chest.

When he said she wasn't going back to the home she frowned. "Where are you taking me then?" She chose to ask instead, glancing at Nix. "If you're a baddie, then Nix really will eat you. He loves baddies the most. Don't ya, Nix?" She asked the dog with wings that stood on all fours in front of them.

Of course, only she could see him.

"Now! Let me go! I want to walk. I have legs you know. I'll stay by your side and everything. But I want to walk." Of course, like a six year old would, she lied. She planned to run the moment her feet touched the floor.

"Ah." He seems to digest this information for a moment before shaking his head slightly, the motion oddly fluid. "No."

Her reassurances that she would remain by his side despite her previous shrieks and beatings does not phase him in the slightest, and instead he turns down a quieter street and, after setting his course with a moment's deliberate focus, looks to her. "I find that improbably. So far you have screamed, hit me, and tried to bite me. You are being uncooperative. The likelihood for a sudden and unprovoked change in this state is statistically insignificant."

He looks down for a moment, and back for her, as his boots splash their way through the puddles made by a burst pipe, and around several mounds of trash. "I do not see anyone in the facility that could cause me significant issue. With that in mind, I would suggest that threats based upon the retribution of a being whose existence seems highly implausible is not your most effective course of action."

He considers that for a moment and, taking into account the parameters set in place by the Cusotmer's Package, adds;

"But you can scream, if it would soothe your anxiety."

That was sufficiently comforting, was it not?

Cianna had met her match. Someone who wasn't going to let her get away with what she had the last year since her parents had died and she'd been put into an orphanage because she had no other family around. She stayed still for a moment trying to think of another plan as they moved and she tried to work out what to do now. Nix wasn't saving her this man was taking her.

And then he said words that really did anger her.

"Nix is real! He's real! Don't you dare ever say that he isn't. He's right behind you. You and all the other people lie when you say you can't see him." She was visibly upset by the denial of Nix when she could see him as clear as day behind them. "You take that back right now. You look at him and say you're sorry for saying he's not real. He's real and he's right there."

She hit the man holding her again. "You and all the rest of them are the same. That's why I don't want to go back to that home. Because you all lie and say he's not real. And he is. He's right there!" And Cianna pointed with her finger to right where Nix was walking.

3619 casts a cursory glance towards the empty air she indicated, before looking back to the child.

"I did not say that it was impossible that your assessment was correct." He tells her, as calmly as if he had been responding to what the weather was expected to do in the immediate vicinity for the next 48 hours or so, within a range of probability given the standard variations in humidity and wind speed. "I merely observed that given the numerous reports filed both with medical authorities and with the Care Network at large which detail the presence of a being which cannot be observed by any individual other than yourself, it was highly unlikely that it should be the case."

He ignored the continued beating, doing little more than modifying the internal power grid to provide slightly more energy into his reinforcement in the sector that she seemed intent upon battering against, allowing his protection in other areas to drop to a more nominal level.

He turned back into the busy street then, and stepped between a cluster of people to reach a grey car which sat silently against the curb. He bends to open the door before twisting his entire torso at the waist to allow him to place her within the car, his shoulder shifting at an awkward and unnerving angle to ensure that she was pressed against the seat rather than simply allowed to roam free within the confines of the car.

One hand presses two fingers against her collarbones, applying as much pressure as is nesesary to the child to keep her in place before he draws the safety belt across her. "Lock." He informs it once it is driven home, and there is an almost inaudible click which satisfies him that it has done just that. Only then does he sit back on his heels to look at her.

"If you attempt to be disruptive to the driving experience, I will apply a firmer harness."

It's not a threat, nor a promise, simply a statement of fact, and that done he stands and makes to close the door before heading towards the drivers side.

Arros was closing in on his target. He'd chased him for half a block and the victim made the poor choice of running down a more empty street. The wounded man limped as quickly as he could past 3619 Alpha and Cianna. Barely a meter behind was Arros moving much faster and with a black baton like weapon raised over his head. The weapon came down with a loud crack on the back of the wounded man who collapsed.

"Listen you! I'm done messing around. You tell me where you sent him and I'll leave you alone!" Arros said as he kicked the man over on his back.

"You'll get nothing from me monster!" The man spat out with blood and bits of teeth.

"Fine!" Arros said as he stomped on the man's right hand with his left boot before breaking his left leg with the baton.

The man screamed in agony hoping someone would hear him, but each strike from Arros forced him to gasp for air.

"You tell me now or I'll start cutting!" Arros shouted as he twisted his boot heel on the man's crushed hand.

The man only screamed until Arros let his boot off the hand. Arros picked him up with one hand and slammed him onto the asphalt street, then picked him up by the hand he hadn't crushed and pulled out a nine inch blade.

"You're making me do this to you." He said before spitting in the man's face and holding the blade against his thumb.

Cianna briefly watched the two men pass, one limping and the other chasing. She had no idea what was going on but looked on as he was beaten. What could she do though? She was only a child and she didn't make a call for Nix to stop it. She's seen a lot of violence in her short life and seeing this didn't shock or scare her.

"You talk stupid and make no sense." Cianna told the man holding her once she'd stopped paying attention to the man that was getting beaten up.

When she was forced into a car though, her demeanor changed drastically and she started squirming and struggling again, fighting for Nix to come and help. Instead he just got himself into the car and lay himself down in the back. She was fighting the belt, kicking the dashboard, screaming and pulling and fighting against the single restraint that wouldn't let her go like a normal car seatbelt would.

"LET ME GO!" She screamed again.

"Cut it out, Ci." Nix told her.

"No. You didn't save me. You're supposed to save me."

"Maybe he's going to help. You can't live on the streets stealing forever." He told her.

"I don't want to go to another home."

"You might not be. Anyway, I'll save you if he becomes a threat, until then, just wait and see what happens."

"No Nix! You should have saved me!" And with that, she started fighting all over again, intent on not giving up.

As the scream from the alleyway increases in pitch, 3619 turns back towards the incident. A brief assessment informs him that without significant intervention the beaten subject would at best suffer permanently crippling injuries from what was about to befall him. The scan highlights the numerous injuries already present, even before the knife is brought to bare against the individual's fifth digit.

Report. Crime in Progress. Access Direct Feed.

Feed accessed. Assessing.

3619 awaited his further instructions with the patience of one who saw nothing to be gained from the experience of exasperation.

Authorities alerted. Current Assignment Remains Priority.

He blinked, banishing the communication screen with the action and turns his back on the two men in the alley. The priority of his current assignment did not preclude him from interfering in situation before him, per se, but the facts were simple. He was current in possession of a child who was- from the muffled bangs and shrieks audible from outwith the car- still furious. Even if she was restrained within the vehicle, any Wing City authority witnessing the event would be likely to ask questions. Given their interactions to date, and the information he'd processed from the Medical Consortium and Care Network, her cognitive state would allow her to construct some troublesome answers to such questions.

His priority, therefore, was leaving the scene before such intevention arrived.

3619 moved to the drivers side of the vehicle without another backward glance, opening the door and sliding within in one fluid motion. He glances to the child as he coaxes the machine into life before asking; "Is there some auditory stimulation that you would find preferable?"

Cianna was getting frustrated, much like a young child would when they didn't get their own way. A tantrum seemed to be brewing, fast. "Just you wait until I set Nix on you. You'll be sorry. He'll tear you to shreds." She threatened. Having spent a year in a home she'd already been exposed to some harsh realities and the bad language that the other kids had used. And the threats they'd come up with when they too, wanted thing.

"You'll be bleeding everywhere!" Cianna added, noting the look Nix gave her.

"I'm not going to tear him to shreds."

"You should." Cianna snapped.

"Why? What happens if you end up with a great family because of him."

"I don't want a new family! I want my family! I'm waiting for when mom and dad come back from playing with the angels. They'd going to finish playing with them soon and come back to play with me!" Cianna shouted, continuing her struggles before glancing at the person who had taken her.

"And no! I don't want anything you have to give or whatever you are talking about." She shouted.

"That is highly unlikely."

The words are completely without irony, as 3619 eases the vehicle into traffic, his visual display tracking the trajectories and speeds of the surrounding cars as they merge seamlessly with the throbbing mass of Wing City traffic which would take them far from the Plaza soon enough, and more importantly, from Cianna's hunting ground of choice. It seemed probable that a reduction in familiar stimuli might lower the incidence of undesirable behaviour patterns. That was, at least, the assessment that the latest round of medical and psychiatric practitioners had forwarded to the client, and thus, to him.

He doesn't see fit to explain that only specific portions of his plating were synthetically produced to resemble human skin, and that while those portions were capable of exuding something that superficially resembled blood, that it was entirely for the sake of maintaining a human image in public, and that those portions represented less than 20% of his entire body mass.

At her assertions that she didn't want to express a preference, 3619 merely nods and reaches forwards to the stereo control, flicking it on with an absent twitch of his finger. Hard, rapid sound filled the cars interior, the crash of drums and the throbbing of several guitars announced themselves in the foreground for a handful of seconds before an angry voice roared an indistinct set of lyrics over the din.

He allowed himself a smile. He did enjoy this particular brand of auditory stimulation, though he'd been informed that some hardly considered it to be 'music'. So he'd shuffled it's categorisation appropriately within his filing system, and continued to listen to it. It was certainly preferable to her earlier shrieking.

Cianna screamed when the 'music' came on and suddenly covered her ears. "STOP IT!" She screamed. It was horrible. It hurt her ears and it was giving her a headache within seconds of the stuff being on. Her small hands pressed harder to her ears as she tried to scream about the music but in the end she had to stop, her throat was sore and her voice raspy.

She sat in the car silently, hands still on her ears, as she watched the man. It was obviously she was trying to come up with a plan B.

"It won't work." Nix told her.

"Shut up." She snapped at him.

And with that, Cianna moved to plan B and started wailing. Tears rolled from her eyes in streams and they were soon getting redder the harder she cried, of course, she was bringing the tears on herself. Nothing hurt, she wasn't upset, and she wasn't in pain. But like every child, they knew how to turn on the waterworks when they wanted to.

3619 had been expecting some level of disagreeable behaviour, given her previous actions, however when she began exhibiting signs of sadness, he finally does what she had requested some time previously.

The car falls into silence, the rumble of tyres and her own distress the only sound within the vehicle. He gives her a cursory glance, and the very sensors which had allowed him to estimate such a low probability of survival for the man in the alley tells him that, if nothing else, she is experiencing no physical distress.

A moment's thought brings up the appropriate section in her profile that details the emotional manipulation that she had demonstrated against the doctor involved as well as the third party reports from the staff.

"You are attempting to alter my behaviour by displaying emotional disturbance. What do you intend this action to achieve?"

He glances to her features, noting with interest the various markers of her apparent sadness before turning his eyes back to the road itself as he wound his way through the streets of Wing City towards outlying suburbs.

Cianna continued to cry despite the music stopping. It was only when he spoke that she sniffled and stopped the crying, the tears sat in her eyes still. "I-I-I'm crying because y-y-you're being mean and t-t-taking me somewhere... so--somewhere I don't know. I'm scared that you're g-g-going to hurt me."

And with that Cianna started bawling again. Nix just shook his head knowing Cianna was making it all up and putting on a show. That was something that she'd learned to do over the last year since she'd lost her parents. And it had gotten her a lot of things. People had felt sorry for her and let her get away with murder because she'd lost her parents and ever since she'd just gotten worse.

"I JUST WANT MY MOM AND DAD!" She shouted through her tears. "I WANT MY PARENTS!"

That had always worked for getting her out of trouble. People had always felt sorry for her then and given her what she wanted and she expected it to work now.

3619 blinked his way through the log of their interaction, the audio taking up a fair portion of his processing and so he remains silent for some time before shaking his head in disagreement. "You are attempting to manipulate my actions by implying I have committed a social faux pas, this is not the case."

He continues to direct their vehicle through the traffic, though it requires less of his attention as the number of potential interruptions to their journey begins to decrease significantly as they approach the edge of the city. "I have no intention of inflicting physical harm upon you. It seems likely that you have already deduced this, given the plentiful opportunity and provocation already provided by your actions." He glances at her to assess her understanding of what was, in his mind, a damning commentary of her behaviour so far.

He looks back to the road for some time before speaking to her last outburst, however, insuring that the information in the file is corroborated between various sources before speaking. "It is also unlikely that you believe your parents will return to collect you. Jack and Diane Miller were reported dead a total of 411 days ago, and were interned 405 days ago after having their organs harvested in accordance with their wishes." He glances to the child. "It seems unlikely that you were unaware of these developments. As such I am forced to conclude that your expressed desire for their presence is little more than an emotional gambit on your part."

He looks to her in ernest, his hands twitching the steering wheel to avoid a pothole, before returning to their original trajectory as he does so. "What is it you hope to accomplish with such behaviour?"
