"I heard cursing and shouting, and I thought 'I'm on the right track, then!' -- and sure enough, here you are."

A rustling in the trees to the side of the clearing around the stream announced the arrival of a fourth person on the scene. Slightly older than the two youngest present, but still not quite passable as an adult, Aaron Cassidy clambered into view and paused at the edge of the water on the opposite side.

The boy folded his arms and gave Tessa a wry look, smirking. "You'll be pleased to hear, no doubt, that our Aunt trusts you so much that she set up a locator charm on you about a month ago. About as pleased as I was to be told that I was the one who had to go and fetch you. Beats regular detention, mind."

Aaron blinked at the familiar expression on Tessa's face, however. "Are you .. are you hung over? You?"

"Oh god, you wouldn't believe the number of times I've heard that line after a night of drinking." Aaron snorted at Nerio's words, glancing down at Zachery. "But hey, it's worth it for when they end the line with 'let's do it again sometime' instead of 'something is awfully wrong'. Better luck next time?"

Aaron laughed and hopped over the stream, using a few rocks as stepping stones, before extending a hand out to Nerio. "I'll feel less awkward introducing myself to you than to the semi-naked person in the stream, so ... hi!" he said, smirking, "I'm Aaron - Tessa's cousin. And you are? Don't tell me you're her boyfriend, because Tessa is far too awkward around romance to land a guy in this short a period of time."

Aaron peered around Nerio to Tessa, grinning. "Having fun there, Tess? Any particular reason you're hanging around with the type of people who wash in streams rather than showers?"

"A pleasure to meet you, Nerio! And your dripping friend - who apparently already doesn't like me, going by that glare - too." Aaron replied, "You all seem in a pretty bad way. I've gotten drunk enough times that I have a few ... methods of getting around the results. Think of it like magical aspirin."

The boy laughed and walked to between Nerio and Tessa, "It'll get you home at least. But then you might regret it. If it hasn't gone by the time the magic wears off ... it comes back quite suddenly. Which can make for some really awkward moments, trust me."

Aaron glanced back at Tessa then, grinning. "Tell? Me? What do you take me for, someone who revels in the mild misfortune of others? Oh, wait..."

Aaron shook his head, "Nah. I won't tell Katarina. Though it might be obvious if you come back in this state."

"I can give it to you now, if you want? The spell, that is. Or just cast it myself. You look like you could use it." Aaron said, before pausing. "No offence!" he quickly added, "I meant the groaning. I don't mean you look terrible. You don't!" To be fair, they sort of did, but there was no need to say that.

Apart from to Tessa. "Unlike Tessa." he noted, turning to her. "First-time hung over you always look like a train wreck, so don't feel bad!"

Aaron chuckled, walking over to Tessa and placing two fingers on her forehead. "Hold still." he murmured, before focusing. His fingers began to glow brightly, and a ripple of pale blueness flowed gently over her body. Where it passed, the pain and nausea of the hangover would fade to be replaced by a soothing coolness.

He glanced back at Nerio, then, waving his still-glowing fingers in the air, "Shall I do you, too?" he queried.

"The spell, I mean."

"Well, I'm sure you look lovely when you aren't half dead, so it all balances out." Aaron smirked, turning away from Tessa to walk over to Nerio, speaking over his shoulder as he did.

"A few hours. Between three and five." he said, shrugging, "Not sure what the variable is on why it's different for different people. I'd be erring on the side of caution if I were you! You don't want to be suddenly hungover talking to Katarina!"

Aaron laughed at the thought as he reached over to place his fingers on the forehead of the very slightly shorter man. "Psh, I don't need magic to put spells on people. Not to be cheesy or anything, but shush."

As Aaron's fingers pressed against his head, the same soothing and numbing sensation would flow through Nerio's body on a ripple of light. "Your friend seemed all over the place. When I first got here he was practically panicking, but by the time he left there was a real forced 'I'm absolutely fine' going on. Maybe he got his bandages knotted or something."

"Aren't we all? I'm certainly strange." Aaron smirked, stepping back to a more conversation-appropriate distance from Nerio, glancing at Tessa with a blink. "Hey! What's that supposed to mean?" he challenged, folding his arms. "I'm like this all the time."

Aaron paused, "But then, you tend to try and escape my presence all of the time, too. Maybe the two are linked. Or maybe I'm just insufferable."

"Well I certainly don't know what she was talking about," Aaron said, glancing back at Nerio, "How about you? I think she was just making up an excuse to go off somewhere and do something illicit. Like summon demons, and almost be eaten by them. Or kidnapped. That happens to her a lot!"

Aaron paused, "The second one, obviously not the first one. It's hard to be eaten multiple times. Not that I've tried. But I'm rambling, sorry."

"Haven't you heard of it? Them? The two Academies to the East of Wing City -- Celestia and Everia. I'm surprised we haven't been on the news for being ... kinda high risk places of education? What with the sieges and everything ..." Aaron smiled, "We both go to Celestia, it's like a school and university for magic as well as regular things. Everia is the other, that's more like military school."

Aaron casually leant on a nearby tree, "And I really was rambling. I do it a lot, so don't worry about being honest. I just talk talk talk until someone's ears fall off! And that actually happened, once -- illusionists with a sense of humour are just a barrel of laughs."

Shaking his head, the boy chuckled at the memory. "How about you? You must be new in town, if you haven't heard of the Academies."

"I have to assume so," Aaron said, "After all the people that have pulled out after the latest attack. It doesn't do wonders for student numbers when the academy is attacked by an army ... twice."

Aaron paused in his flow for a brief moment as memories of both attacks drifted past his thoughts. His expression briefly darkened, but returned to a smile only seconds later. "Well! Welcome to the city, anyway. You'd have to talk to Scarlet about enrolling, or someone like that anyway -- she's the headmistress of the whole place."

Aaron tapped his hand against the tree trunk. "As for bars, you're probably thinking of Gambit's. Don't go there often myself, it's about as dangerous as a warzone, but it is where 'things' tend to happen. There's plenty of variety, though, even if it's a little more mundane."

"I could tell!" Aaron said, laughing. "I heard there was something going on in the Gardens yesterday, but I ended up not swinging by. Sounds like a riot."

Aaron paused, then. "Come to think of it, how exactly did you end up passing out here if the party was in the gardens? It's quite a trek from there to here."

Aaron raised an eyebrow at Nerio, remaining slightly incredulous for a few moments before cracking, and bursting out laughing. "You sound like fun." he commented, "I don't know enough people who get that drunk. I'm sure it must have been fun to watch!"

Aaron chuckled again, shaking his head. "I'm not sure I've ever been that bad. I've had a few alarming morning afters, mind, but I don't think I've ever travelled quite so far afield. But then, I've heard people say 'if you don't wake up with no memory of the night before, and find that somebody's stolen your pants' then it wasn't really a party at all."

At Nerio's question, Aaron followed his gaze. "Er, I'm not entirely sure? Whoever they are, they're just a tiny bit creepy for sitting and watching us for however long. It's not like we were doing anything interesting."

He paused. "I mean like .. magic interesting. Or something. Yeah."

"It's always a party when I'm around." Aaron noted, "Well, when me and alcohol are around at the same time, anyway. Not that I'm saying that I steal peoples' pants -- I've moved on from that analogy at this point."

The boy chuckled, "I wonder how many times you did that on the way here. Definitely fun to watch. Possibly less fun than watching Tessa fall over, mind."

"Did what she did." Aaron pointed in the vague direction of Minerva. "Fall over!"

He blinked, then. "And I have so. Mostly." he noted, laughing. "I imagine that Tessa trying to drink alcohol was probably very amusing. At least you've got to admire her persistence. Not many people get this slammed their first time drinking... it takes some determination for that."

Aaron laughed at Tessa's call, "Stop eavesdropping! We might start saying embarrassing things, and then you'll just feel awkward!"

"Catlike grace and prowess? Suuure." Aaron smirked, "Next thing you're going to start going on about how flexible you are and things will just go downhill from there."

The boy raised an eyebrow, "If you think I've said embarrassing things at this point, then you need to get to know me better." he noted, "I've barely even started."

"Well, we've all heard the story about Jack and Jill and the hill and the tumbling ..." Aaron said, grinning with a shrug. "Though, I'm not sure a nursery rhyme is quite an appropriate analogy. Seems a little innocent for ... err. Words."

He tilted his head slightly, "I'm sure I wouldn't mind that in the slightest." he noted, "Probably best for both of us if you don't make a habit of forgetting entire evenings. You'd end up missing out all the best bits."

Aaron left a pointed pause. "Like last songs at gigs, or the ends of TV shows."

"Well, I've got to cater to an acceptable level of 'strange' for a first meeting, you know. There are social standards for that sort of thing." Aaron said, raising his eyebrows.

At that point he paused, glancing around. "I can't help but notice we've been standing around talking in the middle of a forest for about half an hour. Why don't we head into the city, or at least, somewhere? I should get Tessa back to the Academy before that spell wears off."

"Sure!" Aaron said, "One moment..."

The boy poked his head around the tree in Tessa's general direction, "We're going back to the Academy! You probably want to head there yourself, before Katarina cottons on to the fact that you spent the night in a bush with one and a half men!" he shouted at an immodest volume.

Aaron turned back to Nerio, then. "Ahem. Right, let's go." he said, grinning and pushing off of the tree, making his way back towards the road he'd diverged from on his way here. "Just be glad I remember the way - and have a car! Well, it's not technically my car, but Katarina doesn't exactly need a car now that she's a ghost, so..."

"Oh -- she's my aunt." Aaron said, shrugging, "It's a long story..." he noted, "But yeah. Important bits: dead, ghost, still nags me and teaches. So not much has changed, really!"

He laughed as they emerged out onto the rough path, where Aaron had parked a modest hatchback that looked like it had seen quite a few years in service. But then, for mages that eventually got to the point where they could teleport everywhere, an expensive car was sort of redundant. Aaron clicked the car open with the key-remote-thing and climbed into the driver's seat, waiting for the others to get in with him.

With his two passengers seated, Aaron turned the key in the ignition and the car started. "Right. Now we get to find out if I remember the way or not!" he said cheerfully, turning the wheel and setting off in the direction of the city and Academy.

Some time later, Aaron was driving up the road that led to Academia Celestia's front gates. At the top of a steep hill on the edge of a large, sparkling lake, it was a sight to behold. Shining walls and shining towers rose grandly upwards -- it might only have been months since the siege, but the repairs had been quick with an academy full of mages there to help.

Still, Aaron had to take it slow on the way up the road - there were still plenty of craters and even shrapnel left from demolished Iron Warriors and the like scattered around the place.

"And so at that point I wasn't entirely sure what was sugar and what was volatile explosive powder, and I had a hard time persuading nobody to make any cups of tea until I'd figured it out." he was saying, laughing and shaking his head. "Good times."

"Isn't it, though?" Aaron replied with a smile. He pulled up at the gates, and a woman wearing red battle-robes approached the vehicle.

"Bringing Tessa back, Aaron?" the dark haired woman asked, raising an eyebrow, "And plus one?"

"This is Nerio -- he's here to talk to Scarlet, or whoever, about enrolling." Aaron replied, "I can vouch for him!" he added.

The dark haired woman eyed Nerio up for a few moments before nodding. "Alright. Just get him registered for next time." she noted, "Go ahead."

Aaron nodded again and once more put the car into motion. "Security's even higher now that there's been a second attack. And they had someone on the inside, that time. It's a little offputting at first, but you get used to it." he noted.

It was a short drive through the Academy grounds to a car-park near to the courtyard, and Aaron parked up with little trouble -- not many of the students bothered with cars. He stepped out and closed the door behind him, giving Tessa a wave as she hurried off to find Katarina.

"I have a class soon, but I can take you to Scarlet's office first if you want?"

"No kidding!" Aaron said, laughing and locking the car up behind them. "They are pretty nice. There's a lake if you wander through the trees far enough, and everything. Not quite everything. But you know what I mean."

Aaron led Nerio across the courtyard - the signs of fighting were evident here only in the fact that some of the stone was a lot newer than the rest, where the huge cracks and chasms had been repaired. The same applied to the front of the large main academy building -- a large portion of it was clearly recently rebuilt, including the Western tower.

There were a few students hanging around in the courtyard, and some waved to Aaron as he passed, a gesture that Aaron returned. "I think you'll like it here." Aaron said as they entered the building and started walking through the elegant hallways and up the winding staircases. "It's very ... picturesque. It's got a very 'magic happens here' atmosphere."

"All together, I'd say we have around a thousand or so students, and around three hundred or so degree level undergraduates." Aaron replied, "There are a lot of mages in the area, but not so many that want a formal education or qualification."

The boy shrugged, "Though I'd drop that number a bit seeing as we had a lot of people leave a few months back after the attack." He pointedly didn't mention the casualties. "Just this way," he noted as they branched off down a corridor from the main upper corridor.

Before too long, they were approaching the room marked 'Headmistress' Office', and Aaron paused. "Well, here we are!" he said cheerfully.
