Abdas served in the Drunett army before its destruction and was fighting in Aviarch when the Sage unleashed the full power of the cards, one of the few soldiers to survive the onslaught, but at a terrible cost. Barely alive, he made it to the outskirts of the forest where a family from a small village took him in and sheltered him while the magic raged. They took care of him for the rest of the year, despite his inability to repay them in his incapacity. Shortly after the end of the war however, the children found a playing card while out playing and gave it to him, as a good luck charm. He took the card to humour them, but shortly found that his health was indeed miraculously returning. When fully healed, he worked tirelessly to repay the family, but found himself unable to stay, the forest haunted with memories of the war, so, bidding them a grateful farewell, he left to travel the lands.
He took several manual jobs during the creation of the new empires, but was unable to hold any of them for long, feeling life to be futile in a world with such a voracious appetite for death. It was only during his travels in New Drune when he encountered an order of monks following the god Opien that his interest in life returned, inspired by their undaunted dedication to peace, even in the face of such boundless hatred and destruction. He joined the order, trading in his past of violence for a new name and a new mission. Since then he's regained much of his former composure and meets most situations with a friendly and diplomatic attitude, but even armed with his newfound faith, he often struggles with his warrior's instincts, and doubts deep down if all this talk of peace is anything but empty posturing.
