Absinthe

The Green Fairy in her prime, the aptly named Absinthe stalks Gambit's Bar disguised as a showgirl-cum-waitress. However, don't be fooled by her name and her glitz, for she'll prey on you for even the slightest sip of Sweetheart Stout.

Absinthe was born as any other fairy. She lived in the woods near a city and soon found herself drawn there by the big signs and glamour.

It was her making.

Absinthe, originally 'Vert', was quickly taken in by the glitz and fame of big cities. This green fairy was drawn to shows and dances in particular, and was soon witness to a bar room brawl. Hooked on the thrill of watching one man beat the heaven and hell out of the other, two mammals acting on primal instinct and alcohol, Vert wondered how she could possibly see more of them. Few and far between, bar fights were a luxury taken none too lightly by the fairy.

Thus, late in the eighteenth century, Vert gifted the world with the recipe for disaster, drunkenness and delightful drinking. Under the guise of a simple maid, Vert spent months hinting and prodding at one man in particular, a Major Dubied, who became the proud owner of the first absinthe distillery after careful guidance to what was originally a medical aide. In 1797, Vert dropped her given name and adopted the name 'Absinthe' and the title of 'the Green Fairy.' She is the origin of the spirit's nickname - the Green Fairy - for she soon started to visit those who became inebriated under her creation's influence, prompting the drinkers into fights that ended with destruction, injury, murder and, ultimately, the ban of her work from many countries.

Annoyed by this, Absinthe has lain low until now, desperate to watch the mirrored desperation on desperate men's faces, for she has moved on from working simple bar jobs in Las Vegas, where she was a glitzy glamour showgirl, and has now arrived in Wing City, a place famed for its lack of law enforcement within one particular establishment...

(For those of you who are not avid drinkers, absinthe is a very strong alcoholic beverage that is usually drunk when watered down. It is a bottled spirit that is drunk after dissolving a sugar cube (placed on a small spatula over the cup) into the absinthe with ice-cold water. It is famed for causing violence and murder, leading to its ban in several countries. Sweetheart Stout, on the other hand, is a drink holding 2% alcohol and was well known for being a woman's drink until it declined in popularity towards the end of the last century.

The joke here is that Absinthe, the fairy, originally started off appearing only to those who were inebriated to a high level by her creation whereas now you could have only a small sip of an almost non-alcoholic beverage and she would be accosting you in an attempt to lure you into a fight.)

Behind the bar appeared one redhead, showgirl-like fairy dressed in a green corset that had a long trail tacked to the small of the corset's back. Absinthe's wings were as green as her burlesque outfit and fluttered with unhidden excitement.

'Oh, yes,' she thought with a small, red-lipped grin, 'this will do quite nicely.'

And so, Absinthe - or 'Abigail Sinthe' as she had named herself in her application - took refuge behind the bar and waited with a patience to be proud of for someone to catch her fancy with their consumption of liquor.

Absinthe promptly appeared on the bar, one long folded over the other and a hand cast behind her to keep herself upright as she reclined. She wore the usual green burlesque outfit, the satiny trail spread over her part of the counter and seemingly thin, but incredibly real, wings fluttering teasingly behind her.

"Why, hello there," she smiled in Raphael McGregor's direction.

"I," Absinthe started off, head tilted in a way that just had her features visible through her long red hair, "am Abigail Sinthe. And you, hunny, appear to be some form of attractive humanoid, much like myself."

Because, as she was soon becoming tired of reminding people, Fae could be human-sized too!

"You look like you're enjoying your drink, too..."

Absinthe positively simpered -- perfect. "Would I like a drink? Oh, no... I'm afraid I can't hold my liquor and it's incredibly embarrassing not to drink something alcoholic in a bar of all places!"

Lie number one: Absinthe was incredibly tolerant.

"And former Admiral..? Did you kill somebody or do something equally awful? I can't stand violence!"

Lie number two: Absinthe lived on violence, and she was going to do her damnedest to be witness to some.

'Abigail's' hand came up to cover a very obvious, very fake gasp as Raphael told her of what he had done. "That's absolutely terrible!" she said in a breathless voice that alluded to the exact opposite of her words. Soon, however, she had moved on to explaining her presence. "I'm a showgirl, hunny, I'm a waitress, a tender, eye candy and what not. I like to meet new people. Especially the hotties..."

Absinthe shifted to lie on her stomach across the counter, her head propped up on her hands as she stared at Raphael. "Oh! That's horrid!" She was loving it. "I've never seen someone die before... There have been bar fights. I've seen many bar fights. They're all so terrifying. It's exhilarating, scintillating. You say that you killed billions? Oh, those poor, poor, poor people!"

It would have sounded so much more genuine if she weren't smiling.

The smile on her lips turned nasty in a matter of seconds, and she breathed out only two syllables.

"Oh, yes."

This was exactly what she wanted! Homicidal maniacs who would fulfil her want for violence, injuries and death without ever implicating her in the process. Perfect, perfect!

Absinthe appeared on the bar counter, lounged out in a display of long legs beneath a tight, green corset, with a satisfying snap of magic. The human-sized Fae smirked as if she had been there for hours, and the green, paper-thin wings on her back fluttered with idle excitement.

"Why hello there!" she cooed happily at those in Gambit's Bar. "Aren't you all just precious?"

Absinthe smiled happily at Johnson, red-painted lips curling into a mischievous little expression. "Point that elsewhere, dear, there's no sense in shooting me! I'll just come back when you're at your most vulnerable and I always get what I want when you're influenced by my gift," she informed him as she turned to lie flat on her stomach, forearms propping her torso upright as she continued to grin at Johnson.

Absinthe tutted, but kept her head as still as was possible. "Hunny, you're going about this the wrong way. I'm but a poorly waitress trying to realise her dreams of being a showgirl in one of the most violent places in the world... Las Vegas. All that you would have to do to get free drinks from me would be to regale me with tales of violence, not make me a tale of violence. Understand stand me, handsome?"

Absinthe 's smile stretched at that - perfect, perfect - and gracefully nodded her head. "I'll tell you my name instead... Well, that's a lie. I'll tell you the name that I use and see if you can't figure out my real name from that. It should be too difficult, it's dreadfully simple. I'm Abigail Sinthe." She seemed to pause, as if to let this sink in before moving on. "I'd like a tale of violence, dear, enthralling, devastating violence please."

Absinthe smiled prettily. "But of course, I am Absinthe, the original Green Fairy in all her flitting glory..." she hummed. "They used to call me Vert - that's the name I was given for my green wings and eyes, but Absinthe has such a ring to it - not to mention I always get the whole high-pitched, 'oh my god, you're named after the drink' and then I get to reply with the whole slightly irritated, 'no, actually, other way around' thing... So much fun!"

Absinthe continued to lay sprawled across the counter and, with a snap of her fingers, had a glass of eerily green liquid sitting in front of Johnson, an absinthe spoon settled over the top of the glass and a sugar cube sitting on top of that. Beside the glass of absinthe was a smaller half-glass of ice cold water.

"There you go. Absinthe, straight from the Fae who gifted you silly beings with it in the first place. Now, where is my story and my kiss?"

Absinthe idly sighed and nodded her head. "Oh, of course..." she mused, sliding off the bar and onto the floor, a sweet little trail hiding the backs of her legs as she moved about before, in just one simply flutter of her wings, disappearing. She'd be back. Absinthe is as Absinthe does.

Absinthe appeared on the bar, sprawled out in full display of her long, uncovered legs as she always was, with a grin on her face that was almost completely hidden by the mane of red hair that cascaded over her shoulder and down her back in sultry waves.

"You owe me something," she cooed at Johnson happily, twining a finger around a lock of hair. "Don't you, hunny?"

Painted lips were further drawn across the Fae's face in a wide smile. "Absinthe works for me, as does Abigail... That's the name on my application for this place, anyway. But yes, please, a story of violence. Violence is good. Very, very good."

She fluttered her green wings and casually seemed to relocate herself in front of Johnson, behind the bar and with her arms folded on the counter.

"Go on then."

"Ooh... So you got a teeny-weeny scar..." Absinthe sighed, although it was difficult to tell if it was content or bored. "So, is that the extent of our agreement, or have you something else to give me?" came the next question from red lips. "I'm sure I recall another term..."

She so loved her 'job'. Being the Green Fairy had more perks than most assumed, but it really was a fun occupation!

Ignoring the crying thing up the counter, the 'waitress' smirked at Johnson. "Can I see that scar, a little closer this time?"

Absinthe shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing is for free, true... I'm sure you can think of something you want that I can provide for you." Absinthe spent a couple of moments simply observing Johnson and others at the bar, but she soon leant forward to trail a finger down the scar on his nose.

The Fae laughed, smirking, and moved so that she was almost nose to nose with the man before her.

"Finish the deal, human."

Absinthe guirked her lips in a small display of victory before reciprocating quite happily. She tasted distinctly of absinthe, a dark, liquorice, and she was most certainly quite enthusiastic in her return of the display of affection between herself and what was mostly a stranger.

It was over in less than a minute, for the Fae soon pulled away and righted herself, back straight and arms folded beneath her chest.

"That was fun," she drawled.

Absinthe shrugged her shoulders.

"I got bored."

Very true. Absinthe had a great mind, but it was uncultured and lacked a real education, so it was left to concoct its own amusements, and that unfortunately had to come in the most primal of emotions; lust, fear and anger.

"I still get bored..."
