Alek had seen better days. The half starved vampire came into the square like a fainting shadow, his color shifting cloak keeping him nearly invisible if he were to stay still. The man's normally golden yellow hues were black with hunger as he continued to starve himself.

He wasn't sure how much longer he would stay sane.

If he was sane.

He watched as the blond man walk into the same square, commenting on something. He barely listened, but followed his eyes to the vending machine that was across the way. The thing was an eyesore.

A woman in a flowing white dress walked through Verinotte Square. Her auburn hair was loose down her shoulders and smart blue eyes studied her surroundings.

Adella had never before been to Verinotte Square, nor did she know that it was a haven for the preternatural and paranormal. Waking up that day she had decided to let her feet guide her where they may. It was a day that she had ignored the ill prophecy from the gypsy woman of her doom.

If it had to come then so be it, but Adella was not going to live in fear of her impending death.

A coin laid on the ground and Adella picked it up with a gentle smile on her fair face. She went to the fountain and tossed it in, her eyes closed and a wish on her lips.

Is it fate that was tempting him? His black hues flicked up to the woman who was by the fountain. So pure, so beautiful. So full of life. A life that she lived precariously on the edge of a village full of monsters that would take it away from her, gladly. Did she not realize where she was? Or did she not feel the natural instinct to flee from this place?

The man felt his fangs lower, but he suppressed the urge. Why must she torment him?! Does she not know the agony she was causing him? The conflict to keep what little humanity he had left or let go and fall completely into the monster Alucard wished him to be?

Slowly the golden hue returned to his black eyes, and he slowly stood. Silently he walked over to the woman, a smile forced upon his pale lips. And all the while, with every step, all he could hear was the beating of her heart.

"Excuse me, miss.." He said, his voice deep. "Are you lost?"

Ulrich frowned as he smelled the rich blood of the woman on her approach. He licked his lips and turned towards the fountain, laying heavy eyes on Alek. What was the fool boy doing? He really didn't want to make another arrest, not out in the open or here like this, because another vampire couldn't control themselves in the open.

However, Ulrich wasn't about to preemptively get involved. Instead he moseyed along to another side of the fountain, watching. He was glad there weren't any zomborgs here. It looked like Reisel had successfully secured the border at the Abandoned Slums. No screams echoed through anywhere, and if humans were casually milling about, well... Good.

Adella's wish was interrupted when a man's basso voice filled her ears. It was alarming and a small tinge of fear traveled over her skin. The woman pushed her hair from her face and looked at the man. The most notable feature of him was the golden color of his eyes.

Her fear melted away and the tension of her muscles died away. She took a step toward him, unafraid. There was something about this man. He was alluring and handsome, beautiful beyond any person that Adella had seen before.

"No," Adella said in her gentle voice. "I am not lost."

Her answer infuriated him even more, however he did not show it on his ageless face. His eyes studied her face calmly, carefully and in silence for a moment. The starved vampire gently touched her face, caressing it gently as one would do a lover. "Then you do know you are in danger here, then? This place.. Is not for someone as yourself to be wondering here alone and unaided.." He murmured quietly. "There are things here that would.. Harm you, willingly and unwillingly. Please, let me escort you out.." He said softly.

He could feel the monster within him push him towards her, to brace the woman against himself and tenderly let his fangs fall into her pretty little neck. To drain the life from her, or to make her his. To punish someone who would so boldly step into a place of death and decay with so much life left within themselves.

It was like a slap in the face to the vampire.

"Wing City ain' safe, 'lest I don' think," Ulrich spoke up from where he was, communicator in hand. He continued to thumb at the device and read the data. Zomborgs, an agent down, but at least the Hollow was safe and the border was fortified. On an off shot he wondered if anyone managed to secure the Pool of Nyx, thumbing the request in and sending it out over communication-space. Someone in the Forces Vankoryth would get the message and check it out. If not...

Sighing Ulrich pulled his thick tendrils of hair back with a stray bit of cord. He eyeballed the tavern and tried not to worry about Alek.

"There is no danger here," Adella said in a dreamy voice. She was drunk from the enthrallment of this mysterious dark man whose touch was so gentle. It had been so easy for her to succumb to the passive charm of the vampire.

"Let me stay?" The woman dressed in white asked in an innocent voice. Her blue eyes fluttered closed and her skin warmed from the man's touch. The pulse in her throat quickened.

She did not know who this man was nor why he was touching her so, but Adella did know that all she craved was for the touch to never stop and for this man's kiss. Adella placed a hand on his chest and looked up at him through the long fringe of her lashes.

Alek looked over to Ulrich for a moment, a mixture of panic and pleading for help from Ulrich as well as a dare for the man to step closer to the pair of them. He would not be able to contain himself much longer. He was truly starved.

"Is there anywhere truly safe then?" He asked, his voice full of the plea for help from Ulrich. And then his attention turned back to the woman before him. "There is danger standing right in front of you, and you don't even realize it.." He muttered softly. He could have sworn his own pulse started to race, although his heart had not beat in months now. It was her own heart beat that he could feel within his dead chest.

The temptation was stronger now, the smell of her blood racing past his nostrils as her heart raced. He could almost see the vein in her throat that pulsed in time with the beating of her heart. His throat ached for the thirst and he found himself leaning closer, brushing his lips against her cheek softly. Suddenly, he stopped himself, trembling and with what was last of his sane thoughts, he whispered to her once more. "If I were you, I would run.. And I would run as fast as you possibly can away from me.." He hissed.

Ulrich eyed Alek, then the tavern, then Alek. Ah, hell. What had the kid gotten himself into? This woman...He tried not to breath. Alluring was a word, but there were racier words he would rather use. The vampires shifted from one foot to the other and cleared his throat.

"Could git sum wine," He emphasized the drink. Around here, there were special brews infused with blood. Perhaps that would help take his mind off of the beautiful creature he had managed to seduce. "Castle's safer'n'ny I s'pose..." Or, you know, not. He took a step towards Tauvyr Tavern all the same. He would be back to experiment with the vending machine. Ulrich gestured at the pretty facade.

"Shall weh?"

Adella's heart skipped a beat as his lips grazed across her cheek. The woman smelled of honeysuckle with an underlying scent of earth. She was a woman that did not stay caged in the barriers of the city, but roamed the wilderness free. Adella was a dove that had flown into the grips of the monster that was Alek Constantine.

The gypsy's words ran through her mind in the very recesses of it.

A dark man in a world with no light...

Adella extended her neck for Alek, knowing that it was what he wanted above all else. She wanted to feel him caress her skin with his mouth. The woman was in love with Alek, completely beneath his spell.

It was as if this woman was a drug to anyone near by. Her scent was sweet and wild, but was not was concerned Alek. "U-ulrich.." He muttered again. 'Forgive me...' He thought to the woman and Ulrich. She was taunting him, drawing him nearer. His breath caught and he slowly kissed her neck softly twice before sinking his fangs into her lovely skin. He would begin to drain her slowly, passionately.

A little gasp of surprise came from Adella as Alek kissed her neck, then a cry followed when her neck was pierced by his teeth. She clutched at his back, knotting his clothes into her small fists until her knuckles turned bone white. The woman's blue eyes widened in horror and pleasure at the same time, staring up at the dark sky.

He was a vampire and she had realized it too late! The monster had enthralled her and now she was going to die. The prophecy of her death was coming true, the gypsy had been right all along.

As starved as Alek was, he was pulling blood quickly from her arteries. Adella's mind began to fog over and she became lightheaded. The grasp on the vampire's clothing was becoming more and more weak. Eventually his hold on the woman was all that kept her from falling into a puddle at his feet.

Her breathing became haggard and slow. The pulse in her neck sped from trying to pump blood to her vitals.

Adella was dying in his arms.

"You shouldn't be out here all alone," a woman's voice said to Fang. Her tone was gentle and kind. It had been a sincere warning instead of a mocking taunt.

The figure was curled up against a tree with her back resting against it. A large, draping, brown cloak hid any details of the woman. It was impossible to tell if she was blond, brunette, short, tall, slim, fat, or any other distinguishing markers. The only visible part of her was her pale, almost white, hands.

"There are things that can attack you if you are alone," she said in the same gentle, and soft voice. The woman stood. She was short but just below the average. There was a hint of a white dress beneath the brown cloak. She tugged the thing closed and the woman faded back against the tree just as she had when she was curled up against it.

She was nothing but a shadow again, visible to those only with keen eyes.

"...Huh...Well, ta be honest, lady, that doesn't worry me all that much. Most things tend ta avoid me, or, I do a pretty good job of avoiding them." The smoke was heavy around his face, his sharp features obscured. "And if one is givin' out warnings about being alone, then why're ya wondering about?"

It was true enough. If the shoe fits, and all that jazz. However, now something had his attention, and his curiosity. What was it lately? What was attracting so many individuals lately? The emerald eyed lad had always done his best to maintain a hermit stasis.

Perhaps it all had something to do with the destruction he sensed coming from the city. Perhaps everything, or everyone, was fleeing the chaos to find shelter in nature. "...Typical..." The godling would mumble under his breath, exhaling another rancid plume of smoke.

The smoke was nauseating. It had a sickly sweet aroma to the woman and it made her empty stomach turn violently. She wanted to heave and purge her insides, but there was no more need for a dead woman. She merely stopped breathing and would only breathe when she needed to speak.

"I am alone because I do not belong with people any longer," Adella stated. "There is nothing for me to fear any longer," she said to deny his claim as her being a hypocrite. There was only one thing in the entire world that she feared anymore.

"It is always dark here. That is why I am here," the woman admitted.

Always craving the dark? For some reason, that stirred memories that were trapped deep within his mind. Of course, they would not come to the surface. That would be asking too much from his subconscious, to remember a gods be damned thing about his past.

"So...why show concern for me? Do you think I'd be any different, hmm? If I stick this far out into the boonies, thats gotta say something about me as well, huh?" Something told her that she didn't like his smoke. No one ever liked his smoke. This woman, and the fairy from the night before. Why did no one else have his taste is smokeables?

"I am sorry," she said. "I did not mean to offend you in anyway. I thought it would be a kindness to warn you of possible dangers." Like me, Adella wanted to add but she kept her silence.

It was difficult to adjust to her new life since meeting Alek Constantine. Adella had been struggling the entire way through her 'transformation', or death. The woman had run away into the woods were no one would be harmed. As noble as an idea as that was there were still casualties along the way.

"Why do you stay alone?" the woman asked, the depths of her hood turning towards Fang.

"Well..." How should he put it? Because people always led to complications, emotional or otherwise? Because he had a temper, and being around people would put them in danger? Because the city physically sickened him most of the time, and the people in it were all like little cysts, begging to be popped?

"Ah, well, I stay out here, cause well, I like it. The woods, the forest, no matter how twisted it is, speaks to me in ways that conversation really can't, ya know? Its calming, and it feels right bein' here." Yeah, that was close enough to the truth.

With a stifled cough, Fang rubbed the cigar out on the sole of his boot, pocketing the stub. Even if it was all natural, he didn't like the idea of leaving in among the trees.

A pale white hand showed again as Adella raised one up and pointed it at Fang.

"No, there is more," she said. "I can sense it." The hood of her cloak was taken away and the woman's face was revealed. It was not an ugly old crone beneath the cloak but a beautiful woman; stunning. Amber eyes glinted in the moonlight as she stared at Fang with uncertainty in her expression. Her auburn hair shined, too, in the low light of the night.

Vampire. It was hard to mistake what the woman was in nature: a preternatural killer.

And yet she looked as innocent as a child.

"Tell me your true feelings on why you stay alone, and then I will tell you mine."

The wind turned, and he caught her scent. Every once of his being called out to exterminate the unnatural blight. Though...she was beautiful...not his type, but damn...she was definitely worth another look over. "Mmm...Well then...if you're going to drive that hard of a bargain, or be that pushy, I guess I might've well give in and save us both some time, eh?"

The chain smoking, semi-divinity would once again light up another one of his personally little cigars, this one a tad weaker, the flair from his lighter illuminating his pale skin and platinum hair. "Ah...these are really to die for, ya know..." He was avoiding it. It was obvious Fang didn't want to talk. But something told him this woman wouldn't take no for an answer. A shame.

"I stay out here...mostly because I hate that place over there...that city...I hate the people, their life styles, the way the treat the land they walk on. If I could, I'd let the trees over take it all..."

A long silence stretched between the two. Adella thought carefully on her next words. They could either provoke kinship or an attack. The latter she wished to avoid at all costs. There was too much horror in using her new abilities as an undead fiend.

Fiend. The word didn't seem to fit her. It felt unnatural to admit it, even to herself.

Finally Adella asked, "And if you were handed an opportunity to make the people you hate so much pay for their crimes in a justified means... would you?" Her tone had dropped to a conspiratorial level.

Adella could feel Naar pressing at the back of her mind, willing her to gain another follower.

Something was wrong. He felt...watched. Not in the obvious sense, no. Something else tugged at the back of his mind, calling on the primal instinct of fight or flight. But Fang was not an animal, nor was he a slave to his instincts, no matter how heavily he relied on this.

"To be honest...no. Not in the sense I feel ya are hinting at. I merely want nature to resume its rule...the people have their right to life...and nothing, save for the destruction of nature, would make me wish death on them, no matter how much I despise them."

Of course, he knew, deep down, he wanted more than that. If the world was once more free of people, and home merely to nature, and the spirits within it, even Fang could die happy. Finally pass on for good, without reincarnation. Of course, these thoughts, along with tens of thousands of years worth of memories were secure behind various psychic locks, deep, deep down.

"I'm sorry...but...why do you ask?" The godling narrowed his eyes, the hair on the back of his neck raised like the cackles of some wild beast.

"If people disappeared from the world then I would no longer be a monster," Adella said, admitting her fears to the man she did not even know. It was comforting in a way, though, for her. Telling someone about her problems seemed to lift the burden of her re-creation a fraction.

Adella could tell this man all her secrets and never leave her name. He could be a one-time confidant, lessening her burden if only for that one night.

"I would no longer smell them, or hear their hearts beating. The deafening sounds of the city would disappear and it would be quiet. Everything would be quiet and peaceful again. And I wouldn't have to hunt them and kill them because of something I cannot avoid," Adella said, pink tears rising against her lashes.

"There are sometimes that I wish I could do something too," she admitted with a sigh. "I think that if I could do something, even though I wouldn't want to do it, I would. The darker side of me would win and I would hurt them all, make them all disappear so I wouldn't have to be this monster."

Fang was far from a sage, though his next words were obviously the ones of an aged being, one who had seen far more than even memory itself could imagine. "Of course. We all would. None of us wants to admit how much of a beast we have trapped inside our heads, our hearts, our souls, yeah? But they're there, unrelenting and eager for escape. Of course...doing so would mean giving in..."

A nagging whisper formed in the back of his mind, calling himself a hypocrite, an apostle of lies and self deceit. However, the Godling ignored this feeling, instead, focusing on his words for once. "If...everyone gave in...what would this world be, truly? It would be empty...void of life, void of feeling, void of everything. A place of nothingness...And that is something I could never bring myself to desire..." In fact, sometimes, he wanted nothing. Wipe the slate clean, let the world be reborn in his will and image. His Mother would despise these thoughts, but Gaea hardly even knew where he least favorite son was these days, so far from home.

"Philosophy is tricky business, huh? Mind giving me your name? Its been ages since I got to vent like this, girl." The cigar had becoming nothing more than a baton of his expression, now pointed at the alabaster beauty in a non threatening manner.
