Agent Dylan Ryder

Codename: Breaker. The mind is a complex maze, full of open and locked doors. Who needs a key, when you can break them down?

0 · 689 views · located in Terra

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Dark Rain, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 156lbs
Image

Dylan is usually found wearing his body length black trench coat.

Personality

Dylan is rather quiet, and not very sociable. He'll speak when spoken to, but very rarely will he initiate conversation. Always seeming to be in possession of your secrets, Dylan has the tendency to unnerve you for no reason at all.

Equipment

Aggressive Telepath
Dylan Ryder is a telepath, but a rather rare variety. He can read the thoughts of others, and indeed cannot help but hear the surface thoughts of most people. But far more frightening is his ability to pierce into the minds of others, reading their deepest conscious and unconscious thoughts. And that it takes a trained person to even realize that he's just done so.

Even worse though, is he's not restricted to just mind reading. No, he's aggressive, wielding the power to literally wrest control of his victims' minds and play them like puppets. If that weren't enough, he's not just an Alpha-class Agent, he's the most powerful psychokinetic in recorded Dark Rain history. Entire armies, hell, entire nations have danced to his commands.

Dragonskin Armor
Due to the fact that aside from his massive mental powers, Dylan is human, he was given the Dragonskin Armor, a lightweight, flexible armor that takes the form of a black, body length trench coat. This armor is impervious to bullets up to .75 caliber, and diffuses energy, nullifying up to medium-high energy output laser and plasma rounds. It conducts electricity to a degree, and as such Dylan attempts to avoid electrical attacks.

Agent Armor
The power armor variant of Agents is lighter than that of the bulk of armed forces, but utilizes enhanced shield and stealth technology to make up for the bulk durability. Its greatest modification lies in the addition of the Enhancement System, a helmet mod that is used to bolster the power of an Agent's psychokinetic abilities anywhere from twice to five times greater. Dylan's used the most basic module, bolstering his telepath abilities by double. Only worn in combat scenarios.

DR Agoon
The Direct Rifle Agoon, or Dragoon as slanged by Dark Rain forces, is an extremely versatile modulated weapon. Dylan's is set up as a combined sniper and short/mid-range rifle. The sniper aspect is tuned for sheer penetration and power, slinging energized grav-slugs at hyperballistic velocities, with an effective straightfire range of almost 3 miles. The secondary rifle is an joint energy-kinetic weapon, slinging plasma loaded bolts as a cyclic rate of 500rpm. He does not often carry this weapon around unless in a combat zone.

Banshee
The Agent's sidearm is the Banshee, a quite deadly plasma pistol. Named for its distinctive screaming charge, it has a 1.5 second delay before it unleashes an expansive blast of compressed plasma. containing a micro mag-field pellet, when it strikes, the bolt detonates but the blast is contained within the field projected by the pellet, bolstering its power. Lethal against unshielded targets, and dangerous against armor, it nonetheless suffers from the requirement of multiple shots against shielded targets.

The Night Wolf
Ryder's personal Armored Intelligent Mech, it is a unique design built from the ground up by the Agent himself. A middleweight frame, it radiates an aura of power. Black and crimson paint detailing, it is a bipedal style with a narrow, sharply angled "fighter" chassis, reinforced arms, and a recessed head unit with hundreds of optics running in a strip from left to right. Prototype scale hex-shields and blended adamantium-titanium armor give it appalling endurance, the custom designed and tune Rayviel Furnace within yielding massive levels of energy for extreme high speed maneuvering.
>>Armaments
-Vyper Ballistic Assault Rifle: 150 round clips, 10 spares, 850prm, 20mm caseless slugs.
-Drake Lance Rifle: Plasma lancer, 500 charge capacity.
-Hellfire Modules: Twin missile launchers, 100 capacity each, tracking, 5 missile bursts. Mixed concussion and plasma warheads.
-Storm Bolter: Rack-style mass driver, 150mm slugs, 150 capacity. Rapid fire capable.
-Midnight Lance: ABYSS cannon. 50mm bore, 15 megaton firepower. 3 second cycle time.

History

The organization known as Dark Rain keeps it's origins secret beyond the level of Black. However, Dark Rain does not keep secret its specialty, and that is providing individual agents to clients at a fee. These agents have one thing in common: They are all powerful psychokinetics.

Dylan was recruited into Dark Rain out of high school, after they had discovered his latent abilities. Under the guidance of the Dark Rain organization, his powers grew exponentially, until he reached the classification of an Alpha level agent.

Dylan is the premier agent of the Dark Rain organization, often called the most dangerous of all agents. He alone has the capability to turn an army on its country, to collapse a criminal organization from one man, or to take over a country, doing nothing other than meeting its leader.

So begins...

Agent Dylan Ryder slipped into the bar, pausing but for a brief second as if surveying the crowd. His eyes closed in this moment, a period of brief concentration to dull the roar of thoughts without. Being a mentalist, the various thoughts of those around him were like new voices, doubling the roar of any crowd. The moment passed, and he continued to move into the bar, sauntering up to the counter.

"Could I just get a Coca-Cola please?" Softly spoken, the man's voice only betrayed a hint of his Irish ancestry. He was slender and lean underneath his dark coat, but there seemed to be a sort of force around him that spoke of hidden strength.

Agent Dylan Ryder 's mouth twitched in a sort of ironic smile, shrugging as he heard Helene's words. Reaching over the counter, he snagged one of the soda's for himself, leaving a few pieces of gold that counted as money on this world. "Well, it doesn't stop me from being polite and paying for what I take."

Cracking the bottle open and taking a sip, he lifted the briefcase he had brought before him. This he opened, sighing as he eyeballed the various papers within. Dylan filed through these, flipping a switch on the other side to initiate wireless contact with
Odin's Eye
in orbit. He casually read through a few files, waiting for the uplink to establish.

Agent Dylan Ryder drummed his fingers on the counter, offhandedly answering Helene. "I generally don't stick around long enough for a tab. It helps to have all bases covered." With this said, he smiled in satisfaction, his connection was set. Reaching up, he activated his coat's mic. "This is Selected Agent Dylan Ryder, authorization code Regalia sixteen. Contacting the Odin's Eye."

A second or two passed as his connection was authorized, and he got a printed response on his screen. Dylan took a moment to scan this, then shifted his attention to the papers. "I have documents telling me I've received command of battle group Fenris, calling to confirm." Another moment of reading, and his smile widened. "Excellent. I believe I have additional orders to engage Armarx units in addition to the already cleared targets of the Red mercs?"

He read the response, and uttered but a single word in response. "Perfect."

Agent Dylan Ryder turned his eyes to Helene for but a moment, covering his transponder mic. "You tend to meet quite a few people in my business actually. Quite enlightening conversations and whatnot." Idly, with one finger on the digital display in his briefcase, he set waypoints of the battlegroup's ships. 'The
Belial
, I want half the Reckoning Destroyers with it, the other half acting as a veil for the
Vlad Tepes
.' His thoughts whirled, and he made a note to send updates to the agents under his command.

Speaking once more to the
Eye
, he terminated conversation. "Thank you Eye, we have everything under control down here. Keep me updated from command." Dylan flicked the power switch, closing his briefcase.

Agent Dylan Ryder nodded in understanding, chuckling slightly. "I know the feeling. I couldn't tell you the specifics, classifications and such, but guns pointed at my head is a feeling I know well."

He paused a moment, to really look at Helene. She seemed normal enough, but Dylan's intuition told him there wasn't something normal about her. So he delved with the powers of his mind, an invisible eye that peered at her unguarded thoughts, finding what he had suspected. A one side smile tugged at his mouth. "You're not human though."

Agent Dylan Ryder smirked more, tapping his mind. "If you want me to demonstrate more, I could break into your mind with this, but I'd rather not exert the energy. Not that I care really, non-humans are just another interesting thing to me. So much more elaborate to read, not the same dull thoughts of nearly everyone I meet."

He ran his hands over the case of his briefcase, his smile sobering as he thought of the things that had led him this way. It was strange, how he returned to such reminiscences without reason or cause, but it happened. Perhaps it was the lightning speed of his mind.

Agent Dylan Ryder was startled by her sudden outburst, though it never showed on his face. He scanned his memories for anything he'd encountered like it, and came up blank. He'd be sure to visit one of his contacts more along those lines to see if they knew anything.

"Sorry if I intruded, I tend to be blunt. It doesn't help when you can't turn off the ability to read minds, and have to listen to every passing thought of every idiot on the bloody planet." He took a moment to recompose himself, he'd begun to rant. And rising to anger for him was dangerous, considering the full nature of his mental talent. "Again, I apologize.

Agent Dylan Ryder opened a channel to the first Aschen ship he could hail, simultaneously issuing text orders on strict urgent communications to squadron leaders and captains of vessels only. Dark Rain had received commands from Mr. Hagan to support the Aschen forces, and so the agent found himself flying into a battle. On connection, he was curt. "This is Select Agent Dylan Ryder of Dark Rain, hailing Aschen command. Connect me now."

Cursing as he received a return message from the
Belial
, he widened his sensor array to include listed targets. Switching channels briefly, he gave full release to engage any non-Aschen vessels. Returning, he drummed his fingers against the console of his fighter, hissing with impatience.

When he was connected, he spoke quickly. "Finally, dammit. Dark Rain received orders from Tech Con to support you. Can you upload your positions and paint targets?"

Agent Dylan Ryder raised his eyes in thanks. "Thank you Admiral Cain, engaging immediately."

Shifting to fleetwide command, he issued final orders and uploaded the received coordinates. "All vessels, clearance of all weapons granted, engage painted targets at will. Coordinate for cover."

The
Belial
and it's supporting destroyers formed up, the heavy carrier flanked by wings of two Reckoning Destroyers, the fifth providing rear cover. It's forward mounted Hellbores warmed and cycled, five seconds later firing. The weapons discharged massive lances of tunneling plasma, their velocities and constant flow likely more than enough to overwhelm any shields in the way. The two beams were accompanied by a hailstorm of missiles and energized plasma, the destroyers unleashing their Infinity Cannons at long range.

Meanwhile, Dylan's agents and the other five destroyers slipped closer, a mask for the real danger. The
Vlad Tepes
silently advanced under its stealth coating. -c-

Agent Dylan Ryder The Belial's Hellbores were brutally efficient, ripping the targeted Trantor vessels in half. Their shields hadn't had a prayer in hell, lasting but a blink before being annihilated in a chaotic storm of fury. The smaller vessels around them began belching smoke and fire, as the faster ion bolts of the Infinities chewed holes for the massive barrage of missiles to slip through.

Dylan nodded acknowledgment to the engagement, focusing now on the Vlad Tepes. Or rather, the apparent empty space where the stealth assault carrier should be. The Nosferatu's were devilishly hard to catch, employing active camouflage, radar jamming, sensor scramblers, and heat dampers. A whisker beam laser transmission told him of their readiness. "Hit them."

The Nosferatu unveiled itself in a hellstorm. Three separate Hellbores fired precise paths, taking four Trantor vessels out, and the hailstorm of fire from the destroy ensured the Parasite ship-killer torpedoes entry. It was slaughter, the end of this battle.

Agent Dylan Ryder flicked back over to the still active com to Admiral Cain. "Trantor main vessels are destroyed, and we're mopping up the remainders. Anything else you need help with Admiral?" He waited patiently, monitoring his tac-net carefully. So far, not a single Dark Rain casualty. There was something to be said for the extreme technology they employed for war.

His attention was diverted suddenly, as his contact alarm sounded. A squadron of Trantor fighters was moving to engage his lone fighter. "Want to tango, friends? Let's see what you're made of."

Powering up his systems, he accelerated rapidly towards the approaching fighters, ready to duel.

Agent Dylan Ryder rocketed forward, suddenly executing a massive jink and roll to dodge the incoming fire. He corrected course, aiming for their center. Mentally, he counted down from three, triggering the energized wing blades as he sailed through their formation.

In his ionized wake, two of the five blossomed into fireballs, ripped apart by the scything energies. He flipped a switch, intending to catch the other three unawares. His fighter shuddered, before it begun to move, sembling into the sinister weapon that was a Sword-class mobile fighter's specialty. It was the Dark Rain mobile suit.

"Checkmate, friends." Dylan triple tapped his cannons, sweeping his ship's Infinity Repeater through the just turning ships. Three white lances of burning ion energy ripped through the cockpits, erasing them as cleanly as a scalpel blade.

He reverted to the fighter to its original frame, and begun to head towards the Pegasus. "Understood Admiral, we'll likely be lending a hand at Hagan's orders."

Agent Dylan Ryder entered the bar quickly, a subtle hand signal behind his back telling his strike team to wait without. He was forced to close his eyes quickly, slamming the roar of thoughts down to a dull whisper. He grimaced, the expression hidden behind his tactical helmet. For a change, he was in his combat uniform, an elegant combination of technologies that offered extremely free movement, yet surprising defensive qualities.

He slung his Dragoon rifle over his shoulder, blinking at his HUD to shift into scanning mode. The agent passed it over the patrons, watching files on each draw up, and flicked through them with a combination of blinks and eye movements. "Wartime is such a busy thing, it seems. So many people for the planet being a fucking combat zone."

He spoke in the silence of his helmet, external speakers off at the moment. He took up position near the rear entrance, just maintaining a vigil for now. Hagan's orders were clear. Anti-Tech Con or Aschen displays were to be neutralized.

Agent Dylan Ryder reacted to both thought and words heard, his suit's audio sensors painting the speaker for him. Immediately, his rifle now sighted Rin, humming with power, ready to fire. Over his Tac Comm, he issued quiet orders to the waiting strike team. "Hold at the ready, white to go, green to stay."

He activated his external speakers, addressing Rin. "Miss, I would appreciate if you keep your sentiments to yourself. I'm under orders to neutralize anti-Aschen personnel by any means necessary." Brief and businesslike, but truth was, he rather enjoyed his work. He may bitch about it all the time, but the thrill of using his training and skills was intoxicating.

Subtly, the safety of his weapon flicked off, suddenly it was much more serious.

Agent Dylan Ryder tilted his eyes ever so slightly and blinked three times. On the side of his helmet, a white light flashed on. The go signal. The bottle thrown at him vanished in a shower of glass as one of the entering strike team blasted it out of the air.

Dylan himself smiled, not yet willing to turn out an ace. He sighted ever more carefully, before pressing his firing stud. The Dragoon was aptly named, it howled as it discharged, a lance of white light flashing out of the end. It was a linear rifle, capable of hypersonic shots, and this particular bolt was a Dark Rain magna coil mass reactive sniper shell. It screamed through the air at Rin, the agent already ready to shift for the next shot.

Meanwhile, two of the strike team moved to immobilize Karen, the woman who threw the bottle. They did not take kindly to assaults on their leader.

Agent Dylan Ryder smiled as the round missed cleanly, but it wasn't yet over. He did flick his hand towards his team members, the shield projector mounted there erecting a shimmering yellow field with a pop. The round had impacted the far wall, and he counted quietly. "Three, two, one..."

The seemingly innocuous shell erupted with shocking power, spilling superheated plasma in a expansive blast wave front. The explosion would lick back towards Rin, even as the agent quickly aimed and executed a double tap, one shot to either side of the woman. Man, he was, slow, he was not.

His tactical suit was a sort of mechanized armor that only agents of the Dark Rain wore, an impressive piece of equipment straight from the seedy labs of the development team. It magnified strength, speed, and reflexes by magnitudes of five, and the list of integral systems was endless. He was more than suited to match his opponent, especially with his own combat skills. -c-

Agent Dylan Ryder depolarized his faceplate, showing her a smirk. "Queen of hearts eh? They call me the Breaker..." With that he initiated his true assault. His mind slammed against her's as a lance into a chest, the sheer mental force of the attack at least sure to give him a moment or two of immobile target. If it succeeded, he had just ripped control of her very body from her, his ability that of taking over the mind.

He spoke with a commanding tone, the same command echoing throughout his assault. "Sit." The rifle in his hand seemed lowered, only he and precious few else knew how fast that could change. A dangerous psychic, and a very experienced special operations soldier. Nasty combination.

The two moved forward slowly, weapons trained on Karen as she lay in the net. But it was the team sniper, nestled on a roof nearly a mile away, that saved them from their folly, the quiet bark of a long range kinetic round sounding as the front window shattered, the deadly projectile aimed for the woman's prone form.

Agent Dylan Ryder sensed the suddenly emptiness of the mind under his control with a slight astonishment. Cyborg, apparently, but he'd faced them before. They were unique individuals, but he knew precisely how to deal with them. He increased his concentration on the living mind by magnitudes, quickly reaching the dangerous limits for his victim where brain damage begun to occur. If left unchecked or undefended against, he would quickly incapacitate her living half.

His strike team members stumbled back, red beams issuing from their gauntlets, hacking apart the shock net in midair. They looked about furiously for the woman, but she had vanished. Instead, their wheeled to level their rifles at Rin, waiting for their leader's signal. The sniper lay hidden underneath his stealth foil, glancing only once at the floating machine, shrugging.

Agent Dylan Ryder narrowed his eyes, raising his rifle to fire...

One of the strike team shoved him clear, sending him crashing across a tabletop. He merely grunted as the energy weapon impacted him, scything through his frame, and he told the agent over the comm to crush this foe.

Dylan's eyes hardened at the death of his comrade, and he ejected his magazine. He reached around for the row that he avoided using, simply because of the horrific effects it generated. Micropellets of antimatter, suspended inside of a lethal pocket of uranium, the bolts generated deadly neutrino waves in passing, and detonated like a sub-nuclear grenade on impact.

He sighted the woman, taking in a breath, exhaling it halfway, slowly. With a sudden jerk, he emptied the ten round magazine at but ten feet, sweeping the rounds from left to right in the span of a second and a half. He'd modified the launch speed, upping it up to Mach 10, wanting vengeance.

Agent Dylan Ryder checked his own suit's integrity and that of his team's, letting out a breath as they read in the clear for radiation seals. Still, he'd be ordering a clean up crew for this mess. Seeing no other alternative, he spoke one last time to Rin. "Cease actions now, or I will take extreme action. You aren't going to come out of this the better."

He sent a flash-comm to his shipboard computer, the fighter stealthing and lifting off the platform at the spaceport several miles away. It achieved the position he required for his ploy, but he hoped that the woman would see sense and back down. Hellbore's made such a mess.

But where the strike team had been taken within, Dylan now rested in his cockpit. He set for narrow beam Hellbore, hearing the familiar whine of his charging cannon. Sighting the bar, and more importantly, the bright heat flare within, he sighed.

A moment later, and the narrow beam lance of his Falcion fighter's Hellbore fired. Another Dark Rain upgrade to their existing tech, it maximized power and piercing ability, while trading off the blast wash that a traditional shot would.

Agent Dylan Ryder flipped his stealth off, before pushing the throttle forward, the gravity matrix that was his in-atmospheric engines rapidly accelerating to Mach 3. Dampers made the shift a pleasant bump for the agent, and he passed in a low flyby.

Hissing, he noted his shot had been deflected, a hole ripped through several buildings through the city. He kept a wary eye on the military force that had apparently been growing during his concentration, ready to empty charges into them before heading skyword to dock with the Vlad.
