Agent Dylan Ryder

Codename: Breaker. The mind is a complex maze, full of open and locked doors. Who needs a key, when you can break them down?

0 · 726 views · located in Terra

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Dark Rain, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 156lbs
Image

Dylan is usually found wearing his body length black trench coat.

Personality

Dylan is rather quiet, and not very sociable. He'll speak when spoken to, but very rarely will he initiate conversation. Always seeming to be in possession of your secrets, Dylan has the tendency to unnerve you for no reason at all.

Equipment

Aggressive Telepath
Dylan Ryder is a telepath, but a rather rare variety. He can read the thoughts of others, and indeed cannot help but hear the surface thoughts of most people. But far more frightening is his ability to pierce into the minds of others, reading their deepest conscious and unconscious thoughts. And that it takes a trained person to even realize that he's just done so.

Even worse though, is he's not restricted to just mind reading. No, he's aggressive, wielding the power to literally wrest control of his victims' minds and play them like puppets. If that weren't enough, he's not just an Alpha-class Agent, he's the most powerful psychokinetic in recorded Dark Rain history. Entire armies, hell, entire nations have danced to his commands.

Dragonskin Armor
Due to the fact that aside from his massive mental powers, Dylan is human, he was given the Dragonskin Armor, a lightweight, flexible armor that takes the form of a black, body length trench coat. This armor is impervious to bullets up to .75 caliber, and diffuses energy, nullifying up to medium-high energy output laser and plasma rounds. It conducts electricity to a degree, and as such Dylan attempts to avoid electrical attacks.

Agent Armor
The power armor variant of Agents is lighter than that of the bulk of armed forces, but utilizes enhanced shield and stealth technology to make up for the bulk durability. Its greatest modification lies in the addition of the Enhancement System, a helmet mod that is used to bolster the power of an Agent's psychokinetic abilities anywhere from twice to five times greater. Dylan's used the most basic module, bolstering his telepath abilities by double. Only worn in combat scenarios.

DR Agoon
The Direct Rifle Agoon, or Dragoon as slanged by Dark Rain forces, is an extremely versatile modulated weapon. Dylan's is set up as a combined sniper and short/mid-range rifle. The sniper aspect is tuned for sheer penetration and power, slinging energized grav-slugs at hyperballistic velocities, with an effective straightfire range of almost 3 miles. The secondary rifle is an joint energy-kinetic weapon, slinging plasma loaded bolts as a cyclic rate of 500rpm. He does not often carry this weapon around unless in a combat zone.

Banshee
The Agent's sidearm is the Banshee, a quite deadly plasma pistol. Named for its distinctive screaming charge, it has a 1.5 second delay before it unleashes an expansive blast of compressed plasma. containing a micro mag-field pellet, when it strikes, the bolt detonates but the blast is contained within the field projected by the pellet, bolstering its power. Lethal against unshielded targets, and dangerous against armor, it nonetheless suffers from the requirement of multiple shots against shielded targets.

The Night Wolf
Ryder's personal Armored Intelligent Mech, it is a unique design built from the ground up by the Agent himself. A middleweight frame, it radiates an aura of power. Black and crimson paint detailing, it is a bipedal style with a narrow, sharply angled "fighter" chassis, reinforced arms, and a recessed head unit with hundreds of optics running in a strip from left to right. Prototype scale hex-shields and blended adamantium-titanium armor give it appalling endurance, the custom designed and tune Rayviel Furnace within yielding massive levels of energy for extreme high speed maneuvering.
>>Armaments
-Vyper Ballistic Assault Rifle: 150 round clips, 10 spares, 850prm, 20mm caseless slugs.
-Drake Lance Rifle: Plasma lancer, 500 charge capacity.
-Hellfire Modules: Twin missile launchers, 100 capacity each, tracking, 5 missile bursts. Mixed concussion and plasma warheads.
-Storm Bolter: Rack-style mass driver, 150mm slugs, 150 capacity. Rapid fire capable.
-Midnight Lance: ABYSS cannon. 50mm bore, 15 megaton firepower. 3 second cycle time.

History

The organization known as Dark Rain keeps it's origins secret beyond the level of Black. However, Dark Rain does not keep secret its specialty, and that is providing individual agents to clients at a fee. These agents have one thing in common: They are all powerful psychokinetics.

Dylan was recruited into Dark Rain out of high school, after they had discovered his latent abilities. Under the guidance of the Dark Rain organization, his powers grew exponentially, until he reached the classification of an Alpha level agent.

Dylan is the premier agent of the Dark Rain organization, often called the most dangerous of all agents. He alone has the capability to turn an army on its country, to collapse a criminal organization from one man, or to take over a country, doing nothing other than meeting its leader.

So begins...

Agent Dylan Ryder cursed, slamming the controls downward. He was forced to dive into the streets, rolling to clear the building gaps. He was praying that the missiles he'd detected would eat the sides of the edifices, but he deployed a couple decoy drones that matched his profile nonetheless. He throttled back rapidly, barely in time to climb and clear Wing City's walls.

Calm despite the frantic situation, he flipped stealth back on, vanishing from radar and sight, his active camouflage a blessing at the moment. Executing a neat turn, he made a wide ring around, heading towards the atmospheric plane at stealth speed to avoid any more encounters. Across a whisker beam laser comm, he hailed the Vlad. "Breaker to Vlad, prepare for docking. Five minutes after completion, engage tunnel matrix and get us back to the Belial."

Agent Dylan Ryder slipped into the bar, eyes hidden by the glint of his glasses. The agent cut a rather imposing figure, his black trench coat sweeping behind him as he rapidly crossed the length of the bar to the counter. Quickly reaching the counter, he leaned his back against it while lighting up a smoke, exhaling the fragrant fumes in silence. Not turning as the bartender merely looked at him, he spoke, ordering in his faint Irish accent. "Cola with rum, if you would."

The man was deceptively slight, his figure unassuming and rather small. Taller, but slimmer, Dylan was only armed with what he was by Dark Rain's regulations to carry. The agent didn't need another weapon when he was one. Casting his gaze around the bar, he honed in on each individual, invisibly probing at their minds with his well of psychic power.

Agent Dylan Ryder strode into the bar, his glasses losing their tint as the light dimmed. He glanced around the crowd, not so much as looking as stretching his mind to feel those around him. Each had their own psychic presence, little as it may be, but to him each had their own flavor, from which he could identify them if they approached him from behind. He himself was rather unassuming if not charming, Irish features and a rather slim build. His coat swept behind him as he headed to the counter.

Reaching it, he waved off the barkeep with a small apology. "Not a drinking man, sir. Sorry." It might seem slightly odd to some the ease and relaxed state he held himself while in a place renowned for it's legendary battles. But then again, if one knew precisely what and who Dylan was, they would know in a heartbeat why.

Turning to face those within, he began his practice of piercing into the minds of those he saw. Yet, he paused this as he beheld two known to him, Dallas and Whisper. Pulling out his phone, he skimmed the briefing files before grimacing. "And here I was hoping the Orsa or Patronus wouldn't be around. Fuckin' contracts."

Agent Dylan Ryder raised a hand to rub at the bridge of his nose, feeling the traditional piercing pain of static shattering through his mind. He severed the psychic attempt to feel the woman, Dallas and instead turned his efforts to probe Whisper instead. His eyes narrowed as he encountered no shielding defense, despite her ambient aura that marked her as a telepath. But he pressed in, and instantly recoiled visibly. "Jesus chri...what a fucking mess!"

He'd come across a multiple personality disorder, which to his mind was like walking naked into a pool of shattered, red hot glass. It was painful in the extreme to even broach that mind unprepared, and he took a moment to recover from the shock of his entry. But then he steeled himself, taking a breath, and dived back in.

It was like a maelstrom that only by sheer will did he keep himself from becoming lost to the storm. But he could feel, pick apart the selves, and what he found made him very, very keen to get to know the woman that he probed.

Agent Dylan Ryder withdrew but a fraction of his mind, leaving a wedge of his consciousness as a doorway with Whisper's mind. This freed him to approach the pair, removing his glasses with one hand so as not to have them impede him. He came to a halt but a few feet out of the way, staring onwards with surprisingly hard eyes. His voice whipcracked out at Dallas.

"That's enough, priestess. You're torment is ill befitting the god you serve. If there was heart left in you, you'd see the effect merely the sight of you had on this woman."

Cold, remote eyes glared at Dallas, Dylan's long weeks spent in the Dark Rain academy giving him the poise and stance of those few born to be the command that everyone acknowledged. His hand did not stray towards his sidearm, and besides, what was a gun when he had his mind?

Agent Dylan Ryder 's eyes relaxed slightly at Dallas' change in demeanor, and that was when he felt Whisper's weak attempt to probe his own mind. He simply let it brush his mind, feeling what was lost vanish in the swirl of thoughts around him. Sighing, he brought out a small dome-shaped device, setting it on a table near him. Dialing the machine, he flipped a switch, wincing a bit as it activated. An invisible field shot out from it in all directions, separating their space from the ambient mind chatter around them, turning a roar into silence.

"She's not, Whisper, and you'd better come to terms with that." He glanced at first Whisper, then at Dallas, and sighed. "I'm not here to cause trouble or whatnot, but I can't stay uninvolved if an Orsa and a Patronus are going to go at it. Unfortunately, my organization has a contract with one of the sides."

Shrugging he settled himself into a chair, gesturing to the pair. "Just, eh...pretend I'm not here. I'll...er, leave you too it."

For some reason, Dylan felt like his intrusion now was exactly that, and no mere intervention. Odd, he hadn't been bugged by his conscience in ages.

Agent Dylan Ryder was an open book, not needing to conceal his intentions. He was calm and focused in the face of Dallas assault on him, going so far as to give her a half smile. "And what of it if we work for the Orsa? The only thing I'm really designated to do is to be at the beck and call of HQ, to go and break what Krycis doesn't have the resources to do." He shrugged, leaning back in his seat. "In this case, he wants us to go bring the Aschen to their knees. And then, take off their heads."

The calm with which he spoke of such an event betrayed his confidence. But then it was his next words that were the bomb. "And you shouldn't act so high and mighty. Every day you Patronus hold the Artifacts away from the Orsa, they get more frustrated. Last I heard, Krycis was going to start up killing innocents everyday he doesn't get an Artifact, until their all collected." He tilted his face towards Dallas. "I say the smart choice is give it to him, let them unseal the Sealed whatever, and then try and kill that thing. Cause every goddamn moment you do otherwise, he gets more creative, and more people die."

Agent Dylan Ryder shook his head, keeping his thoughts silent. He couldn't help but look at Dallas and wonder how blind she was to whatever god she served. 'After all, they've been practically screaming warnings about Krycis forever. I should know firsthand how insane an idea that is.' He shivered to himself, recalling his rather brief look in the Devil Machine's mind, through Silvertongue. The agent had to give it to the monster, he knew the game much better than everyone else on the board. Krycis was a god in its own right, with plans within plans within yet more plans. And he didn't intend to find out about those plans, recalling how he had nearly lost his very sanity. 'Never again do I go into a mind that old'.

Turning to Whisper at her question, he sighed. "Why am I here? You don't want to know." And suddenly his open mind was a closed coffin, sealed as tight as a sarcophogus. Dylan wasn't usually the kind to shield himself from others, but questions that broached his past shut him away.

A sliver of his mind shown through, as he asked a question in return. "Are you truly aware of yourself, Whisper? Of what you hold?" His eyes leveled on her and did not waver.

Agent Dylan Ryder held up three fingers, the other raising but one. "Within you..." He lifted the single finger, before dropping the hand. "There are three personas. I know you're a sort of psychokinetic, but if you don't acknowledge the other two, you're going to remain as chaotic as you are now."

Leaning back, he let her absorb this, opening that portion of his mind for her to read as she chose."

Agent Dylan Ryder withdrew his mind from her's, sighing. "Dylan Ryder, agent of the Dark Rain." He reached into his jacket, tossing a cell phone on the table. "Need me, call the number in the contacts."

He rose, picked up his device, and left.

Agent Dylan Ryder felt his phone ring and cursed. His feet shifted, hand on the yolk on his Falcion slipping to the side to execute a neat come about. Throwing the throttle forward, he rather enjoyed the rush of the acceleration over the country-side towards Wing City. Flipping the device open, he spoke but briefly, ending the call after his words.

"Be there in five."

Call completed, he raced across the surface of Terra, glad to be free of patrol duty. And more personally, he wanted to delve into Whisper's mind, helping her unlock the truths she didn't know. To him, that was more challenging and fulfilling than stealing a mind and making someone commit suicide any day.

Agent Dylan Ryder waited until the last moment to switch from fusion drive to his gravity well projector. Feeling the sudden change to dead stop over Gambit's was like a quintuple punch to the chest, but still he loved it, enjoying flying beyond comprehension. Dropping into a descent, he hit the switches for landing gear and lifted the wings, settling into a space no larger than two car lengths in the lot. Lifting the cockpit, he tossed his flight helmet and leaped free.

A moment later, the security devices were set and he strode towards the door. He looked rather different in his flightsuit, it being sleeker and less intimidating than his usual agent coat. He lit up a smoke as he entered, eyes wandering among the crowd while his mind had already centered on Whisper's presence.

Striding up to her, he sat down opposite the woman and smiled. "You called?"

sighed, his smile fading. The agent closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them. A breath, and he began. "I've been a mentalist, slang for psychokinetically inclined individual, since I was born. In all that time, I've seen hundreds like and unlike me, and the thing that remained the same was sanity is the only thing between you and been utterly destroyed. The number was so that I could help."

Raising his own cell, he tapped the screen once before replacing it in his pocket. He was not yet to send his mind to pierce into Whisper's, not quite yet. He reached across the table to put his hand on her own, speaking softly and gently.

"I can only help, though, if you let me."

Agent Dylan Ryder exhaled slowly, bringing all of his focus in to himself for the moment. This in itself took nearly a minute, his consciousness so far from when he had first discovered himself that it still shook him to sense his own power. His psyche collected, he laid his hands on Whisper's, less hearing his speech than feeling it in his chest.

"You will see as I see. But nothing can touch you while you are shielded by my mind. I'm going to touch your mind now."

And with that, he lanced into her consciousness with surgical care, devoting a moment to pull her conscious mind along for the ride, protecting it as he said from the dangers one's own mental turbulence posed to themselves.

And revealed to her the truth. Thousands of facets drifting in the ether of her mind, but three shone above the rest as the triumvirate he had discovered was her. These other two personas he did not know, but that was what he had brought Whisper with for.

The one thing that destroyed his ability to command a mind was when there were additional minds within that defended while the conscious member maintained their life. This did not mean he couldn't read them, and oft had he brought another along to touch and understand their extra sides they themselves did not know. But this time, Dylan had the feeling this would be far more challenging a puzzle that ever before, being the first time he had encountered multiple peronsas with the mind of a psychic.

Agent Dylan Ryder was as he must be when facing unfamiliar faces. Stiff, formal, his very presence a command unto itself. He sensed as Whisper took measure of these two that one held a hint of Whisper herself, using it to press his advantage. "You..you know who this is with me. You seem like her, so will you speak, help her to understand what part of herself you are?"

He waited for an answer, using the spare time to more closely touch and examine this...darkness. Sensing something alien, he turned that portion of his mind to look over Whisper's memories, skimming through them in an attempt to find a match for something, anything that would tie this to her and thus give him power to compel it.

It was indeed the most difficult invasion he'd ever done, Dylan feeling the strain as his consciousness was forced to expand and contract pieces and bits of itself seemingly almost at random. Outside he was pale, skin drawn tight and beads of sweat running down his face from the deepness of his dive, the power he was using to hold himself there.

Hopefully he could maintain long enough for this to be solved in one visit. He didn't look forward to a second.

Agent Dylan Ryder was rocked with the truth of Alessia's words even as he uncovered the memories he searched for, a tie between something called the Corruption and Whi-no, Jacquelyn. He cursed to himself, bracing against the inevitable force of what was about to lash his mind. A double hammerblow of the pair of solid truths struck him, his mental focus lost for a split instant. Within Whisper's mind, it was almost ten full heartbeats where his shield slipped to reveal his left arm and leg to whatever malice in her mind wished to harm.

Truth was indeed a weapon, exemplified by its effect on telepaths while in a mind not their own. To speak the truth or give them one was to strike them with the solid stone they'd been sifting the sands of your thoughts and lies for. And so it was this that Dylan experienced, hoping that whatever might be within Whisper, or rather, Jacquelyn's mind would be slow to notice his vulnerability.

Agent Dylan Ryder felt the tides of Whisper's mind shift and resisted the flow. But slowly, and surely, he was being driven back, losing ground more and more in a steady advance. A desperate move that broke his promise, but he had to. Some instinct told him that to lose now was to lose period, and that this would somehow held Whisper find herself.

His mind had been like a balloon attached by a thread, and was being carried away on a wave. Shifting his focus, the balloon became a shaft, his will the bladed tip that topped the spear of his next push. This left him barely protected, Whisper completely free of his shielding mind. But he could slice his way back in, fighting the shoving current with the spearing focus he now exerted.

If it wasn't so desperate he might have found it exhilarating.

Agent Dylan Ryder could only nod as he suddenly was drawn out forcibly. He reached out towards the three as his consciousness fled back to himself, silently screaming in rage at being so close.

And then his eyes snapped open, and his arms shot to slam against his temples. The pain was excruciating with his head, Dylan had cut it far too fine and as a result had overdrawn his powers. Now his mental stamina exhausted, the most he could do was scream at the agony that came from such a state.

He kept trying to send his hand to a pocket in his right side, one containing the powerful pain relievers that he alone had the level of pain to use. But he couldn't bear to relinquish his grasp on his cranium, his muffled screams like loud moans.
