Agent Dylan Ryder

Codename: Breaker. The mind is a complex maze, full of open and locked doors. Who needs a key, when you can break them down?

0 · 721 views · located in Terra

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Dark Rain, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 156lbs
Image

Dylan is usually found wearing his body length black trench coat.

Personality

Dylan is rather quiet, and not very sociable. He'll speak when spoken to, but very rarely will he initiate conversation. Always seeming to be in possession of your secrets, Dylan has the tendency to unnerve you for no reason at all.

Equipment

Aggressive Telepath
Dylan Ryder is a telepath, but a rather rare variety. He can read the thoughts of others, and indeed cannot help but hear the surface thoughts of most people. But far more frightening is his ability to pierce into the minds of others, reading their deepest conscious and unconscious thoughts. And that it takes a trained person to even realize that he's just done so.

Even worse though, is he's not restricted to just mind reading. No, he's aggressive, wielding the power to literally wrest control of his victims' minds and play them like puppets. If that weren't enough, he's not just an Alpha-class Agent, he's the most powerful psychokinetic in recorded Dark Rain history. Entire armies, hell, entire nations have danced to his commands.

Dragonskin Armor
Due to the fact that aside from his massive mental powers, Dylan is human, he was given the Dragonskin Armor, a lightweight, flexible armor that takes the form of a black, body length trench coat. This armor is impervious to bullets up to .75 caliber, and diffuses energy, nullifying up to medium-high energy output laser and plasma rounds. It conducts electricity to a degree, and as such Dylan attempts to avoid electrical attacks.

Agent Armor
The power armor variant of Agents is lighter than that of the bulk of armed forces, but utilizes enhanced shield and stealth technology to make up for the bulk durability. Its greatest modification lies in the addition of the Enhancement System, a helmet mod that is used to bolster the power of an Agent's psychokinetic abilities anywhere from twice to five times greater. Dylan's used the most basic module, bolstering his telepath abilities by double. Only worn in combat scenarios.

DR Agoon
The Direct Rifle Agoon, or Dragoon as slanged by Dark Rain forces, is an extremely versatile modulated weapon. Dylan's is set up as a combined sniper and short/mid-range rifle. The sniper aspect is tuned for sheer penetration and power, slinging energized grav-slugs at hyperballistic velocities, with an effective straightfire range of almost 3 miles. The secondary rifle is an joint energy-kinetic weapon, slinging plasma loaded bolts as a cyclic rate of 500rpm. He does not often carry this weapon around unless in a combat zone.

Banshee
The Agent's sidearm is the Banshee, a quite deadly plasma pistol. Named for its distinctive screaming charge, it has a 1.5 second delay before it unleashes an expansive blast of compressed plasma. containing a micro mag-field pellet, when it strikes, the bolt detonates but the blast is contained within the field projected by the pellet, bolstering its power. Lethal against unshielded targets, and dangerous against armor, it nonetheless suffers from the requirement of multiple shots against shielded targets.

The Night Wolf
Ryder's personal Armored Intelligent Mech, it is a unique design built from the ground up by the Agent himself. A middleweight frame, it radiates an aura of power. Black and crimson paint detailing, it is a bipedal style with a narrow, sharply angled "fighter" chassis, reinforced arms, and a recessed head unit with hundreds of optics running in a strip from left to right. Prototype scale hex-shields and blended adamantium-titanium armor give it appalling endurance, the custom designed and tune Rayviel Furnace within yielding massive levels of energy for extreme high speed maneuvering.
>>Armaments
-Vyper Ballistic Assault Rifle: 150 round clips, 10 spares, 850prm, 20mm caseless slugs.
-Drake Lance Rifle: Plasma lancer, 500 charge capacity.
-Hellfire Modules: Twin missile launchers, 100 capacity each, tracking, 5 missile bursts. Mixed concussion and plasma warheads.
-Storm Bolter: Rack-style mass driver, 150mm slugs, 150 capacity. Rapid fire capable.
-Midnight Lance: ABYSS cannon. 50mm bore, 15 megaton firepower. 3 second cycle time.

History

The organization known as Dark Rain keeps it's origins secret beyond the level of Black. However, Dark Rain does not keep secret its specialty, and that is providing individual agents to clients at a fee. These agents have one thing in common: They are all powerful psychokinetics.

Dylan was recruited into Dark Rain out of high school, after they had discovered his latent abilities. Under the guidance of the Dark Rain organization, his powers grew exponentially, until he reached the classification of an Alpha level agent.

Dylan is the premier agent of the Dark Rain organization, often called the most dangerous of all agents. He alone has the capability to turn an army on its country, to collapse a criminal organization from one man, or to take over a country, doing nothing other than meeting its leader.

So begins...

Agent Dylan Ryder hissed audibly as he closed down his senses, changing the state of his mind to bring it in on itself. Closing himself from the world to shield the piercing probes, before allowing only two slivers of it to shine. Filling those slivers himself, he brought himself back, focused on the two women as a spy would peer through a crack in the wall.

Watching Whisper out of the corner of his eye, he addressed Yuriko. "You know, a probing like that while my back is turned is likely to get me mad enough to return the favor. I'm not called the Breaker for nothing, Yuriko." The glare in his eye did not waver, and the hand in his pocket closed on a black pill, the most dangerous weapon any Agent of Dark Rain carried. "The name's Dylan, and if by Confederation, you mean Aschen, my organization is contracted to eliminate it. At to galactic domination, well, don't have high hopes. Piss someone off enough, and we get another contract. If they can afford it."

Tilting his head, he glanced at Whisper. He doubted that the retaliation had been the Whisper he knew, so he decided to give which personality this was a warning. Throwing open the sliver in his mind, he slammed the edges of Whisper's mental barriers with everything he had, a psychic punch like an entire mountain range, pulled at the last moment to only glance. He bellowed through the momentary touch, irate. 'Whisper counted me as a trusted friend, one who helped her come to terms with the others like you in her mind. Confirm it if you like, but know that I can and will come in to rattle you if I have to.'

Pulling back to his slivers, he settled in his seat. Nothing exterior showed the struggle of his mental powers, just showing the prowess of the man's development.

Agent Dylan Ryder answered Yuriko very simply, drawing a rod from his jacket. Pressing a button and sliding the two pieces apart, he slid the open datapad over to the woman, the rates of Dark Rain listed on the pad. To put simply, the prices were...immense.

Turning to Whisper though, he smiled devilishly. "Because that "whore" you speak of let me in to keep her from going insane. Probably burning herself out into an empty shell. Meaning you wouldn't exist. I know more about Whisper than you possibly could, remaining aloof as you sound to be. Bring your tongue to check, before I rip it out."

A whisper of that overwhelming power slipped through at his final statement, a hissed breath of danger.

Agent Dylan Ryder kept his guard up, but released the black pill in his pocket. 'No need to use it here, thankfully.' He extended a hand to shake, speaking as he did. "You would know who I am if you searched Whisper's memories, so I'll skip the introduction. Perhaps we did get off on the wrong foot, but I take an offensive approach whenever I'm worried about something."

Reaching into his pocket, he killed his phone, not willing to let his partner ruin his self-imposed relaxation, however badly the attempt was turning out to be, If she had a problem that needed his talents, she could go find another telepath for the time being. "Any chance of getting one of those drinks you spoke of? A cola, if so."

If she found his ordering of something without alcohol odd, then so be it. He stayed off the stuff for a reason, lighting up a cigarette while he waited for an answer.

Agent Dylan Ryder winced as a mental call from headquarters run through his mind, his partner's furious voice making his head ache. Taking a soda and rising, he slid payment on the table. He spared but a moment to answer both women. "We'll keep in touch Yuriko, and I'll bring your proposal to my seniors. Use this number." The agent passed her his cell's contact information.

Turning to Whisper, he winked, smiling devilishly. "Ask her and find out what all I know." He turned and left before she could retort.

The quiet thrum of an engine rose and fell, cutting altogether. Muffled sounds of boots slapping the pavement sounded, before the door opened and closed. The man that stood there waved smoke from the cigarette dangling from his mouth, looking over the edge of his orange tinted glasses around the room. Dull, grey eyes marched from patron to patron seemingly at random, but what chose the pattern were the intangible questings of his mind. In his eyes, his probings were like ghostly silver streaks around the room.

He looked hard at Diane for a moment, noticing the floating glasses around her. But her mind's feel was wrong, not the one he sought. Growing impatient, he took off his glasses, tucking them in an inside pocket of the long, full body black coat he wore. Taking a deep drag, he unfocused his mind, letting the probing simply envelop the room.

Found you.

Without warning, he simply turned towards the cloaked figure and made his way towards them. Glancing for a moment at hidden features, he took a seat across the table, settling in and leaning back. His face was a mask as he slowly puffed his cigarette, studying the one before him.

But from where?

The thought was as good as spoken when near Dylan Ryder, for his gift of telepathy was both awe inspiring and feared. Gently, he reached with his mind and opened a small portion of his own guard, letting his memories of their last meeting pass through to her, if she would let him. The man was cautious though, even now remembering the last time he'd been in her mind.

"A while ago, Whisper. Nearly two years, and I find while I simply feel older you've changed."

Nodding absently, his mind gave weight to his confirmation. "I have been. Dark Rain is looking for any sort of asset in the Terra system, and I recalled a rather unique psyker I met in this very room."

There was a smile in his voice, but his deeper thoughts were guarded heavily. This was more serious than he simply spoke of, and he drew a small conical object from his pocket, setting it on the table. Tapping a button, the top of it unfolded in a strange helix dish. EM jammer in place, he glanced around.

I have missed you Whisper, but that is not why I'm here. I've been assigned to aid you in developing your abilities. Protect you as well, though my partner and another associate of mine share that task.

Dylan looked at Whisper for a long moment, silent in mind and voice. He rubbed his temples with one hand, ashing out his smoke. Turning away, he spoke, but almost too quiet to hear.

"They decided to enact Memento Mori on the Aschen. And they plan on coming through Terra system to do it."

Sighing heavily, Dylan slumped in his chair. The decision of Memento Mori was not made lightly. In his research, it had only been made twice before. In both cases, the target was liquidated completely, the planets burned and shattered, even the sun torpedoed so that it would nova. He cursed under his breath, then realized with burgeoning horror that those dwellings had not been guarded.

Shit.

Dylan sensed the slight lie but shrugged it away, leaning forward. His eyes looked down at the table for a moment, before lifting to look at the bandages over her eyes. "Nonetheless I have my orders, and I should add that we're not looking for soldiers. We're simply looking for approval of the people to use their system in such a manner, and building ties so that we have an exit strategy if one is needed."

Ryder realized that he sounded flustered, taking a moment to lean back and take a breath. He had been having trouble focusing himself ever since the announcement came down. The man did not need that now of all times, for he had secrets kept from even the Agency. Recomposing himself, he settled back in his chair.

All of that doesn't truly matter with what I'm offering though. I want to help you grow your powers. The orders simply demand that I do my hardest.

Opened his mouth to answer and closed it again. Why did he want to help her? Because I need people I can trust with my secrets. People not affiliated with the Agency. But this he kept to himself.

Sighing, Dylan pieced his thoughts together, trying to create enough without too much. Focusing on Whisper, he spread his mind out, slamming a psychic wall in place over the pair of them. Finally, he spoke.

"Let me help you understand. What do you think my powers are, exactly? How powerful do you think I really am?"

"Then let me tell you."

Every single psyker I've touched the mind of, I assimilate a portion of their talent. I have the reserves to command an army, but with the powers I've gained...

He left her to finish the thought on her own. He lit another cigarette, taking a long drag from it. He was silent for nearly a minute, silently collecting his thoughts. "I want to help you, because I can, and because I want people, anyone I can trust outside of the Agency. Ones I don't have to hide from or risk attention with unpleasant consequences."

"Alright. Time I can give you."

Glancing to the side, he looked to Jonathan across the room. The assassin didn't return his gaze, but signed an all-clear subtly. Something of a relief to Ryder, since so much else had been going to hell recently. The Wormhole was late arriving in the Terra system, the engineer corpsmen of his detachment were having a fit designing a standalone gate. There had been several tuning issues with some of the fighters and AIMs aboard the Malevolence and the ship had nearly crept out of the sensor shadows on the far side of the system several times now.

Dylan reached into his coat and drew out a bottle of pills. He could feel another headache coming on.

Shaking his head, glancing at Whisper. "I'm hurt. If you really need to find me, I'll be hanging around here. Otherwise..." Dylan smirked. "I'll find you."

'ETA 4 minutes, Agent Ryder'

"Thank you Helena," Dylan responded to the AI's comm, then turned to look at his team. Five armored, armed figures ran diagnostics, checked weapons, meditated, or watched him in return. All of them were calm, collected, and simply eager to move on. Satisfied with his survey with eyes and mind, the agent called the cockpit view to his helm's screen. The Darkhammer based loomed into view, not yet stirred into frantic activity. That's going to change in a moment.

Snorting at the thought, he opened a link to the cockpit. "Kill stealth boys. Let's make them sweat a little. Least I can do for them making me come all the way out here to pick up our friend."

A moment later, their Vulture shuttle slowly became visible. Active and electronic camouflages fading away, the craft had an sharply arced cockpit with a broad bay, the wings sweeping wide to the side and forward. Pods rested against the chassis above the wings, missile silos wisely closed. Slender laser cannons hung from the wings, conspicuously dark. As much fun as it was to goose the defenses, being mistaken as a threat was just reckless, even for them.

The skilled flight team brought the Vulture to a smooth landing in the center of the compound, turning engines to idle. A side door opened, and Ryder swung halfway out, glaring about in his power armor. A smirk on his face, he activated the suit's external speakers.

"This is Special Agent Dylan Ryder of Dark Rain forces. We are here for a passenger pick-up." The loud-hailer blasted his message across the grounds. A wry grin on his face, he opened inter-team comms.

"That out to get their attention boss."
"I know lieutenant. Now we wait for the welcome wagon."

"Flight team..."
"Shields been on since we left, boss."
"Just checking. I'm fairly confident in our suits, but testing suit shields against gatling guns? No thanks."

Dylan swung back in, closing the side door. Signalling his team leader to drop the ramp, his Steel Wolves fanned out in a semi-circle from the back of the shuttle, weapons slung away from their armored hands. Following them at a more sedate pace, he stopped in the middle of their ring, crossing his arms in front of his chest. He watched the deployment towards their Vulture with only half his attention, his primary focus reaching out with his mind. Every native soldier he touched was the same, frantic, frightened, or angry. He paused his survey to click his comm. "Do not, I repeat do not draw arms unless they fire first. We're here for a pick up and to leave a message. I see shots fired from us first and you will shoot your own balls off."

Satisfied his soldiers were in check, he kept expanding his telepathic search. Where are you, Whisper? It's turning into a clown show out here.

Boots rapped on the stairs, Dylan Ryder descending into view. The tails of the armored black coat of the Agents billowed behind him, an a holo-display hovered ahead of him from the projector in his gloved left hand. Glancing up from his reports, he navigated to a table off to the side and sat down. Placing the projector in front of him, the man cracked his knuckles, muttering.

"Work time."

Gloves fingered danced over the display, and suddenly it fractured to nearly a dozen screens arcing to either side. Hard eyes devoured the plethora of data, the occasional silent tap of a finger against light a decision. Troop movements, material summaries, reports from both the Shadow of Subterfuge and Greater Leviathan on continued success at evading detection...

"Can't wait till the Gate's up. Turn this over to the paper pushers, real fast."

Dylan paused in his work, seeming to bore grey eyes into Chana. The look in them was unreadable, but he broke contact to light up a cigarette. Boots thumped on the stairs behind him, and he spoke without turning. "Morning Pace, Mavan. Rooftops of West today for the both of you. And Pace, thanks for the sentiment, but this is nothing hard.

The two men had only just come into view, closed the mouths they'd opened, saluted, and marched off. One cast a nervous look at his companion, before glancing back at Ryder on the way out.

Sure, there were sounds to herald people coming, but this man at his impromptu desk had known who they were without looking. And apparently something that one was going to say before he even had time to say it. This was the man in charge of Dark Rain forces present until HQ got Memento Mori off the dirt?

Gods help anyone who got in his way. Glancing up at Chana against, he gave a light smile. "Work never ends for some of us, eh?"

"Wish it were that easy." The Agent sighed, tapping the razored-wing emblem on his jacket. "I'm a field agent, who just happens to be the highest rank attached the my task force, so of course they stick me in command of it all."

Dylan couldn't help glancing at her again. It was hard not to, since he couldn't just turn off his ability. And people bled thoughts like sweat. "Ch...Chana is it? Agent Ryder, Dark Rain. What unit are you from?"

A little blunt with his power, but what was he supposed to do? Pretend he couldn't pretty much hear what you were going to say, before you said it? On the flipside, it cut through a whole mess of bullshit. After all, you couldn't lie to someone who knows your planning to feed him lies.

"Hate to tell you, but neither." Dylan tapped his temple above his glasses. "I'm a...telepath. Most people have three levels of thought. Subconscious, deep conscious, and surface. I kinda hear surface thoughts all the time."

A wave of his hand collapsed his displays down to a small, urgent message only box. He studied her, but without knowing whether or not she's had mind training, or even just a knack for it, there wasn't a chance of frost in hell he would try for the deeper levels of her mind. "Forgive me if I seem to know what you're thinking ahead of time, then."

"I don't really know much more than your name." The man's sheepish smile was answer enough. "A little lack of foresight on my part, but we've been a little bit busy gathering intel to better understand the Aschen scenario. Neglected to take into account additional Terran paramilitary forces."

"Frankly, unless you tell me yourself, or you give me permission to do more than just listen, I don't know much except you're military, and you're not Aschen. And that's enough to warrant interest, as far as I'm concerned." Dylan had leaned forward, and now held the essence of a serious man.
