Agent Dylan Ryder

Codename: Breaker. The mind is a complex maze, full of open and locked doors. Who needs a key, when you can break them down?

0 · 720 views · located in Terra

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Dark Rain, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 156lbs
Image

Dylan is usually found wearing his body length black trench coat.

Personality

Dylan is rather quiet, and not very sociable. He'll speak when spoken to, but very rarely will he initiate conversation. Always seeming to be in possession of your secrets, Dylan has the tendency to unnerve you for no reason at all.

Equipment

Aggressive Telepath
Dylan Ryder is a telepath, but a rather rare variety. He can read the thoughts of others, and indeed cannot help but hear the surface thoughts of most people. But far more frightening is his ability to pierce into the minds of others, reading their deepest conscious and unconscious thoughts. And that it takes a trained person to even realize that he's just done so.

Even worse though, is he's not restricted to just mind reading. No, he's aggressive, wielding the power to literally wrest control of his victims' minds and play them like puppets. If that weren't enough, he's not just an Alpha-class Agent, he's the most powerful psychokinetic in recorded Dark Rain history. Entire armies, hell, entire nations have danced to his commands.

Dragonskin Armor
Due to the fact that aside from his massive mental powers, Dylan is human, he was given the Dragonskin Armor, a lightweight, flexible armor that takes the form of a black, body length trench coat. This armor is impervious to bullets up to .75 caliber, and diffuses energy, nullifying up to medium-high energy output laser and plasma rounds. It conducts electricity to a degree, and as such Dylan attempts to avoid electrical attacks.

Agent Armor
The power armor variant of Agents is lighter than that of the bulk of armed forces, but utilizes enhanced shield and stealth technology to make up for the bulk durability. Its greatest modification lies in the addition of the Enhancement System, a helmet mod that is used to bolster the power of an Agent's psychokinetic abilities anywhere from twice to five times greater. Dylan's used the most basic module, bolstering his telepath abilities by double. Only worn in combat scenarios.

DR Agoon
The Direct Rifle Agoon, or Dragoon as slanged by Dark Rain forces, is an extremely versatile modulated weapon. Dylan's is set up as a combined sniper and short/mid-range rifle. The sniper aspect is tuned for sheer penetration and power, slinging energized grav-slugs at hyperballistic velocities, with an effective straightfire range of almost 3 miles. The secondary rifle is an joint energy-kinetic weapon, slinging plasma loaded bolts as a cyclic rate of 500rpm. He does not often carry this weapon around unless in a combat zone.

Banshee
The Agent's sidearm is the Banshee, a quite deadly plasma pistol. Named for its distinctive screaming charge, it has a 1.5 second delay before it unleashes an expansive blast of compressed plasma. containing a micro mag-field pellet, when it strikes, the bolt detonates but the blast is contained within the field projected by the pellet, bolstering its power. Lethal against unshielded targets, and dangerous against armor, it nonetheless suffers from the requirement of multiple shots against shielded targets.

The Night Wolf
Ryder's personal Armored Intelligent Mech, it is a unique design built from the ground up by the Agent himself. A middleweight frame, it radiates an aura of power. Black and crimson paint detailing, it is a bipedal style with a narrow, sharply angled "fighter" chassis, reinforced arms, and a recessed head unit with hundreds of optics running in a strip from left to right. Prototype scale hex-shields and blended adamantium-titanium armor give it appalling endurance, the custom designed and tune Rayviel Furnace within yielding massive levels of energy for extreme high speed maneuvering.
>>Armaments
-Vyper Ballistic Assault Rifle: 150 round clips, 10 spares, 850prm, 20mm caseless slugs.
-Drake Lance Rifle: Plasma lancer, 500 charge capacity.
-Hellfire Modules: Twin missile launchers, 100 capacity each, tracking, 5 missile bursts. Mixed concussion and plasma warheads.
-Storm Bolter: Rack-style mass driver, 150mm slugs, 150 capacity. Rapid fire capable.
-Midnight Lance: ABYSS cannon. 50mm bore, 15 megaton firepower. 3 second cycle time.

History

The organization known as Dark Rain keeps it's origins secret beyond the level of Black. However, Dark Rain does not keep secret its specialty, and that is providing individual agents to clients at a fee. These agents have one thing in common: They are all powerful psychokinetics.

Dylan was recruited into Dark Rain out of high school, after they had discovered his latent abilities. Under the guidance of the Dark Rain organization, his powers grew exponentially, until he reached the classification of an Alpha level agent.

Dylan is the premier agent of the Dark Rain organization, often called the most dangerous of all agents. He alone has the capability to turn an army on its country, to collapse a criminal organization from one man, or to take over a country, doing nothing other than meeting its leader.

So begins...

"Let's step outside." Dylan rose and slipped out the front, walking to the parking lot. Thankfully it was large enough. Keying his mic and subvocal transmitter, he hailed what his soldiers were calling the Airstrip these days. 'Spares to Gambit's lot, please.'

He only had to wait about three minutes, thanking the cooler heads that had gotten the impromptu airbase put fairly close to Wing City. The last minute of this, a thrum sounded through the air, growing to the steady, alternating sounds of pulse jets. A pair of shadows eclipsed the sun, large silhouettes descending with sharp precision. The sound of metal gently striking pavement sounded.

"Chana, may I offer you a pair of spare AIMs I somehow got saddled with?" Spoken conversationally, the objects in question were most certainly not just conversation pieces.

The pair of Armored Intelligent Mechs stood nearly thirty feet tall, with reverse jointed legs, a sharply angled forward "jet" chassis, light arms, and partially recessed heads. Unarmed at the moment, the nonetheless radiated lethality, far outclassing any other vehicle of relative size on land, air, or space. Titanium fullerene armor and framework, hex-plate shielding system, numerous, strategically placed pulse and plasma jets, and AI capable as well, they gave a whole new meaning to precision strike.

"Thank you, Major. These are set to AI control at the moment, but I'll send them back, get 'em tooled up, and get coordinates from you on where you want them. The pilots' might need to come get the implant packs for them though. They're a bitch and a half to use without AI support."

A keyed burst to the Airstrip and they lifted off, heading back. He'd have to accompany them personally, if only to show Sanctum what they could do. Heading for the back of the parking lot, he smiled at Chana, and drew his sleeve back. Tapping a wrist console, sparks flickered in the air at the "empty" back of the lot...

...Which wasn't as empty as it looked. Ryder's personal AIM stood there, and this was anything but unarmed. Huge, almost bladelike guns rested in its hands, what could only be missile launchers mounted on its shoulder pauldrons. A absolutely massive cannon pointed into the sky over its right shoulder, a rack-like weapon adorning the left.

"See you around, Major Chana. And..." Dylan mounted the rail lift that dropped from the cockpit. "Pleasure doing business with you."

The two Agents walked in side by side. Rebekkah glanced around, spying Harmony making a beeline for her, while her partner, Dylan simply followed. While the woman was obvious and threw her presence into a room, the man was much more subtle, but carried a heavy gravity around him.

"Hey again, Harmony. I'd like you to meet my partner and the commander of Rain's forces on Terra, Dylan Ryder." Rebekkah smirked and gestured back at her companion, winking at the man with a grin.

Dylan simply stared at her, masking his irritation. Their's was a love-hate relationship. Holding out his hand to Harmony, the senior Agent nodded. "Call me Dylan or Breaker. Pleasure to meet you."

Dylan glanced at the men before turning back to Harmony, allowing Rebekkah the closer inspection. It could have been taken as a slight, his apparent disinterest, had it not been for his next words.

"So, Harmony. What do Roxxi, Flowers, Oxide, Miles, Cairo, and Soap have to offer our position here?" The Agent couldn't resist a knowing glance back at Rebekkah, the woman smirking fiercely as she sized them up. Ryder rarely flaunted his ability, but when he did he did so with devious timing.

Rebekkah jotted notes on her perscomp, muttering to herself. She, on the other hand, wasn't about to demo her skills so lightly. Too flashy.

Staring at the displays in his command post, Agent Dylan Ryder tapped a finger against his console. Cameras from his mobile AIMS and the Wolves in the hot zone, feeds from the TACSATs seeded around space, command channels of his units. All were pointing at a very real possibility of fairly chaotic battle between varying forces. His personnel were now at risk, and that did not settle easily with him. Sighing, he tapped the override frequency, sending secure beam transmissions to every unit in his control. "This is Breaker to all Dark Rain units. We are now at full alert status. In system units maintain stealth and withdraw from the killbox. Out system units power up Abyss cannons and set long range firing solutions. Planetary units disengage, I repeat, disengage. Fire only if fired upon."

Closing the override, he then tapped a new set of channels. "Ryder to any independent contractors listening. Anyone in a position to give me intel beyond a bunch of unknown forces seemingly about to blow each other to hell?"

The first was Dark Rain network only. Second was broad spectrum, so if you're eavesdropping you might have heard it.

Dylan bellowed to his staff, stabbing a finger at one of the consoles. "Mark that and find out what's going on. Get on the nets and get our people out of the line of fire. We are non-combatants in this fuck-up."

Taking the call on his console personally, he listened carefully. Growling, he answered. "TNG, we are non-hostile, repeat, non-hostile. You do have confirmed targets of ours in area but we have deemed the situation to conflicted to engage. Personnel withdrawing from situation. We will request meeting with you at later date. Breaker of Dark Rain, out."

Ryder studied the measured chaos in the CP for a moment before settling back into his chair, rubbing at his temples. He hadn't lied to the Terrans, and in fact had a sanction from Terran friendly forces, but the Taiyou were too mixed in the mess to be legit targets. Once more, the knife withheld. For now.

"Finally. Peace in Gambit's." Dylan Ryder muttered as he strode into the bar, not even bothering to cast a glance around the room. His mind had done that before he'd even left the parking lot, touching the consciousnesses of those within.

That was a farcry from having come unprepared. The Agent was wearing the armored jacket of his rank, grip of his Banshee just barely visible at his hip. He aimed for the bar, when the surface thoughts of one alerted him to one of his independents. Tired eyes turned to find Harmony.

"Hello. Been a while, eh?"

Dropping into the chair with a groan, Ryder reached for his painkillers. The Agent looked like hell, as though he hadn't slept in days. Likely true, in his case.

"That was a pretty nice clusterfuck a while back here. Taiyou, Terran defense forces, and god knows what else. The hell is going on these days?"

Pausing with a couple of pills in his hand, the Agent turned to regard with Hellshine with a flat, dead glance. That look turned to a moment's glare at Walter, and for a moment Dylan was sorely tempted to throw his mind with lethal focus. Abruptly he turned away and growled back. "No."

"Anyways, what's this?" Tossing back the PK's dry, the man grimaced but nonetheless leaned forward. Tossing another glance at Anna, he added, the ghost of a smile on his face. "And I assume that whatever its about, she's a rep of this UNSC. Pleasure to meet you, by the way, Mrs. Anna."

He couldn't resist that one.

Ryder sighed for a moment, some of the fatigue fading. "So you have the numbers but not the intel for those numbers. Definitely appeals to us."

"I'll be frank with you. At the moment, I've got only around 20,000 people in Terra system. A few independents here and there, but most of that's support and fleet manning. What we have in abundance is intel, and that's simply because our stealth is better than everyone else's. So let's hear your offer and I'll see what I can do to match it."

"Hrm." Dylan resisted the urge to confirm that information himself by dipping into the woman's mind. It wasn't very difficult when the surface thoughts resounded with truth. Slowly, the Agent smiled. "In return, I'll give you the modules you'll need to tap the network. How's access to the better part of several thousand very, very stealthy TACSATs sound to you?"

The man rifled through the packet that Harmony had laid in front of him, adding without looking at Anna. "I'm also prepared to offer further intel from our confidential sources, with the restriction they remain confidential. Unfortunately, even I'm not cleared to reveal our spies."

Rising, Dylan held up a finger for a moment, tapping the skin behind his earlobe. He hummed, subvocalizing through the throat mike. 'Steel Wolves, stand down. Breaker coming out with independent Harmony and new ally.'

"Lead the way, Anna. By the way, the name is Dylan Ryder. Or Breaker, which ever you prefer."

"Agency." His gloved hand seemed dwarfed by that armored hand, but there was something about the presence about him that somehow made there no inequity between the two.

Dylan had donned his glasses, looking out from behind their orange tint. Flashes of light signaled the holo-display on their lenses. "Not quite an Owl, but still impressive. Remind me to give you a tour of the Parking Lot sometime, Spartan Anna."

"Not at all. I will say the orbital view of your base is quite impressive. The elevator too, though we normally refer to those structures as prize-shots." The Agent smiled, then removed and offered his glasses to the Spartan. "If you'd like to see for yourself."

Dylan didn't ramble about the tech aspects. He preferred to simply show. Why bother telling?

Shrugging, he placed them back on. "We were forced to tech up fast. The systems we colonized turned out to be a farcry more dangerous than we were told, and then let's not forget that it was occupied."

Ryder fell silent for a moment. Unwilling to speak of the only atrocity committed in Rain's history, simply called the Xenocide. "In any case, when lines were opened back to 'civilized' space, we were surprised to find ourselves possibly the highest tech level of most human politics."

Regarding the Spartan pensively for a moment, he grinned at Harmony. Drawing his sidearm, he tapped a series of sunken nubs on the stock and offered it to Anna, grip first. "For some reason I think you'd love this little beauty. We call it the Banshee.

"Compressed burst plasma pistol. Screams as it compresses the bolt, but the lovely thing is what it does to armor. Or cover." The man turned over the pistol in his hands, shifting his HUD to scan function with a rapid eye flick and a couple blinks. "We can also loan you a few of our weapons like these. Think of it as a mutual support system."

"Got it." The Agent smirked at the music. "On that tour of the Lot, I'll let you see what that can do, plus some."

Flipping back the gun in his hands, he offered it back.
