Aleric Fowl

"This is the Thackeray Black. Stand down and prepare for boarding."

0 · 827 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Nevermore90

Description

Aleric Fowl (A-lare-ick Foul)
Age: 27
How old does s/he appear? 22

Race: Half elf (The distinction of half/elf or half/human being noted but of no seriousness, as "In Space," the elf culture has paralleled the advances in humanity)
Eye Color: Brown

Hair/Fur color: Brown/[N/A]

Height: 6'0''
Weight: 250kilos
Type of body/build: Aleric has an athletic build despite the fact that most of his job-and thus his life-is composed of sitting and dialing in commands. He does a lot more planet-side than people think, however.
Distinguishing Marks? Aleric has the sort of gimped rounding at the ends of his ears as befits a half-elf.
Scars? [N/A] Surgery is a miracle!

Accent? Aleric is good at faking accents, but he speaks what is considered "Standard English" by most inhabitants of Terra.

Is s/he healthy? Yes
From bio-engineering to genetherapy, nothing in Aleric's life would allow him to become susceptible to such silly little inconveniences such as poor health... other than bullets, of course.

Physical disabilities: [N/A]
Physical abilities: Aleric comes from the day-and-age of science and technology; funded and recruited by a highly advanced and influential group such as the Snc, what shouldn't he be good at? His bones are coated in titanium, more than quadruplicating the amount of pressure it would take to break one of his bones-the only downside that not only can they melt, but he occasionally needs to get booster shots so he doesn't die of infection or a negative reaction to the metal under his skin. Now, that's the only truly invasive bioaugmentation that Aleric has undertaken; even if he's an elf from the stars, he is still the same mamby-pamby, tree-hugging **** that can be expected of his species. A few vat treatments for his muscles and a port for human-machine interfaces are the only other serious things.

Personality

FAVORITES
Color: Crimson and black together
Music: Irish dancing music; A Letter From Dublin being in the highest range.
Food: Fried Cactus
Genre: Speculative fiction
Book: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Quote: "And that is who I became: Speaker for the dead."
Expletive(s) (swears): "Viel sithis neir bil asd shishier!"

ATTITUDE

Greatest fear: The Honeybadger being captured, then forced to be in a Transformers pornographic film
Worst thing that could happen to him/her? Having his metaphorical wings be taken away.
Philosophy: "If I can't fly it, it ain't worth shit."

PERSONALITY
Character's soft spot: Aleric has the odd tendancy of craving the positive acknowledgement of different strangers-he won't let someone walk away with a negative opinion of him on their first encounter.
Is this soft spot obvious to others? Yes; he's a bit loud about it.

Which of the 7 deadly sins does character show?
Pride
Which of the 7 virtues does your character have?
Diligence

TRAITS

Optimist or pessimist? Optimist
Introvert or extrovert? Extrovert
Good characteristics: Aleric Fowl is loyal-and not just to the SnC; he follows through on his word and does what he can to help people when they need it.
Character flaws: Aleric is like any air force pilot today-he feels like he kisses the sky each day and nothing can stop him.
Mannerisms: Aleric looks up a lot, as if in search of a bird.
Peculiarities: Sometimes, if Aleric spent the day in a nervous state over anything, he'll sleep on his roof, under the stars through rain or shine.

SELF-PERCEPTION

One word character would use to describe self: Fast
One paragraph description of how character would describe self: "I'm one of the best SnC pilots around. I fly in, I fly out, lots of explosions and slow motion effects. It's great. I'm also good on the ground-you could consider me the triple threat of the modern battlefield. I can zip behind enemy line, jet pack down, and assassinate a rabbit from then hundred yards. I had to do that one time, y'know. Yeah, that was a great story. It all started when..."

GENERAL

Jewelry/ other accessories? Aleric doesn't like to wear flashy things. He spends a lot of his time in his armor-for whatever reason-and always has the mission clock displayed somewhere on his helmet, so no need for a watch. He isn't a man of jewelry or (from his perspective) exotic tastes; he wouldn't be worth mugging.
Where does character live? Aleric has been provided with an apartment by the SnC, free of charge, for the duration of his shore leave.
With anyone? [Yes]/No
Spending habits: Frugal/[Spendthrift]
Any pets? No
Likes music? Yes

Equipment

Image

Image This sniper rifle was NOT made to tackle serious armor and fairs poorly when made to do so-it is an anti-personnel weapon, acurized for shots into vulnerable places at extreme ranges under extreme circumstances, not the pock-shot crap you see in the Call of Duty franchise.

Image
Function: The J.O.C.K.E.Y., designed for pilots that don't necessarily expect to fly home, is more often referred to as the Stealth Suit Mk.II, which is something it almost directly derived from (the only difference being improved flare comp. and cushions for crashes). It has a built in stealth device that makes in virtually in visible by refracting light and creating a "Hollow echo." (The area in which the user stands looks slightly distorted as the light incorrectly falls and hits the viewers' eyes as a mirror might. The stealth only lasts for about 25 min. or 6 posts)
The suit is mostly bullet proof able to take most high caliber rounds. (10mm and lower pistols rounds are almost useless, 5.56mm rifle calibers are nerfed, and 12.7mm rounds are somewhere around the power of a normal 9mm pistol round. Of course specially shaped charges-such as ones that explode on impact-are still very much a threat!) The suit is also stab proof; most attackers find their blades slide along and away from his body after a pathetic impact. (For some reason, curved, thin blades like scimitars or something that combines crushing power with slicing, like a bastard sword or katana, are still something to be reckoned with. The suit was expecting small attacks, like combat knives-which still hurt if you aim right-or switch-blades) The suit has a high resistance to heat and cold temperatures; the insulation helps to mask the user's heat signature. The suit carries a more nerfed version of the invisibility, which is cheaper on power and functions so long as the suit is mostly intact: Chameleon (a good name hasn't been presented) This allows the suit to take on the same color, look, and texture of what ever the suit presses up against; anything not in contact, the suit can make guess work for-but it's generally 70% accurate on its estimates. Flurries of snow and sand clumps always throw it off.
The helmet has a flare comp, meaning it automatically polarizes if amounts of light are detected that are potentially hazardous or distracting to the human eye. It also has an induct for collecting larger amounts of infrared, x-ray, and ultraviolet light waves, then a little computer that-among other things-translates the waves into images the human eye and brain can perceive and understand. In other words: You might be invisible to the naked eye, but so long as you've got bones or a heat signature, Aleric is going to know where you are-the end of his shotgun.

Image Standard-issue combat knife. SnC soldiers are also supplied with combat knives and "letter openers" they hide on their persons if they expect ground-based conflicts in the event of being taking as a prisoner of war, and he usually keeps this "Shank" about him.

Image Traditionally ceremonial sword. Aleric keeps a space-somewhere-in the interior of his ship to store it, in the event of needing a sword. Because who doesn't need a sword?

Image "Civilian" clothing.

On all of his guns, Aleric has replaced every part with match-grade material, partially thanks to Talia Okami, his ship's engineer.

History

The story of Aleric Fowl:

'Tis easiest to start with his immediate childhood, a profane and unpleasant memory. As he was born to a human father and an elven mother, there were many disputes about how he should be raised and dress and talk. English or Sylvan? (Of course he learned both)
To all the world, in his infancy, his parents appeared to form a picturesque family. What a said joke that is: The only time Aleric's parents were not arguing, it was because his father was beating him and his mother was too drunk to notice (or at least pretended not to notice)

As you can imagine, Aleric was desperate to get out and seek hiatus among other people. Naturally the best option would be get off the planet entirely, where his parents could never track him.

So where to go?

A military flight academy, of course!

Aleric hit the books with the strength of many men, almost never to be found without a book or simulation controls in his hands. It was either earn his wings or go home, after all.
The academy was relatively easy to him-he took surprisingly well to everything that was thrown at him. He had a tendency to break curfew and sneak into the AR/Sim gaming rooms at least once every three days.

The SnC was not a glorious life. He took a part in several major conflicts of both land and space, from espionage to political assassination. The further along he got in promotions, however, the more he learned of the hypocrisy of every faction he had sided with or against-and thus he quit. He took a Firefly-class vessel and left, naming it the Thackeray Black after the historical figure. He would not quite consider himself a pirate-more of a mercenary of fortune. He has the skills to be an engineer, pilot, or soldier; there was and is little he could and can do.

So begins...

Aleric Fowl pushed the bar door open and pulled his helmet from his head. Even the most comfortable of arrangements could grow tiresome after marching through the cold, grime and rain of Terra. He shook water from its metal frame and looked around the bar; rather filled this evening... or morning.

Aleric rolled his shoulders as he continued in. He found himself through the crowds to the bar proper and ordered a drink-a four in the morning. Great habits. He also unslung the bolt-action rifle from his back and set it on the counter top; it was growing quite heavy.

Aleric Fowl looked up at Phinx and offered a polite smile. "Aye, miss, though I doubt the problems of a troubled soldier would obtain too much of your own interest." He slid the bolt back on his rifle, ejected the magazine, and pulled a large bullet from the chamber. He thumbed it back into its clip housing and dropped the whole thing into a bag, then picked up and leaned the rifle against the counter between his stool and the one to his left. "Ye don't look to good yerself, no offense intended."

Aleric Fowl considered it. At this point, his job did make him feel more like a mercenary than a real soldier. "Of sorts, you could say. And I'm a proud representative of the SnC." He tapped in an order on the holographic menu that had been buzzing at him for the last minute with greed. "Oi, really wish ye could order straight ammo from Gambit's. Y'all know this is the kind of 'resteraunt' that would serve it."

Aleric Fowl offered a polite little smile once more, however this both looked and felt more genuine. He extended his own hand and carefully clasped it around hers. "SnC Aleric Fowl, madame. Any relation to the nineteen-hundreds actress, by chance?" He pulled his hand back away from hers and leaned forward. "I can guess a bit of resemblance..." He hoped that came off as a convincing compliment.

Aleric Fowl propped his elbows against the counter top and bawled one hand into the opposite fist. "At least ye didn't end up bein' named after a bird, ma'am. And it's all English."

Aleric Fowl shrugged and reached down to his belt. He drew his sidearm-a 12.7mm cartridge pistol-and placed it on the table. "Me standard loud out is a shotgun, sniper rifle, pistol, and knife." He patted the hilt that protruded from a sheathe on his chest, then set his arms once more against the counter. "I spend most of meh time flyin', anyway; I rarely need to snipe or do anything CQC. Y'know, it's nice to meet a woman that knows a thing'er two 'bout firearms. Well, one that isn't a bimbo whore is a Godsend, truly."

Aleric Fowl chuckled. "I do plenty of fighting, ma'am. I'm a high-threat spec agent of the SnC! Ye think I don't go flyin' into combat? I'm a combat pilot. I dance around blackholes and destabilize protons for fun!" Then he sighed; he was getting full of himself. "Me job ain't lax, to say the least. What do ye do, for a livin'?"

Aleric Fowl smiled thrice. "I would concur, ma'am. Then again, when you're resorted to referring as inanimate objects as females out of loneliness, I do suppose yer opinion on such matters does lose value. If it means anything, I see no flaws in your form." Both of their orders arrived. "Please, may I buy yer dinner? It's been a while since I've had a conversation."

Aleric Fowl grabbed his mug in one hand and a drink in the other. "Isn't often a woman buys me dinner. Can't think of a real reason to say no." He shrugged and took a bite. Good to get "Real food" anytime he was off duty. "Eh... so, where're ye from, Ms. Phinx?"

Aleric Fowl was content to ignore gun fire; he was wearing armor that would nerf assault rifle rounds, after all. "And was Los Angeles back on Earth?" He asked, chomping away at his burger with gusto.

Aleric Fowl pushed the bar door open with a sigh. It was testament to the loneliness of a man's life when he had to frequent this bar, alone and hungry. He needed to eat more often; he was loosing an almost unhealthy amount of weight.

He pulled his helmet from his shoulders and shook the slick from it, then walked farther in and looked around. Almost dead empty. With a sigh, Aleric sauntered up to the bar and choose a stool, then typed in an order after laying his rifle against the counter top.

Aleric Fowl looked over at Jade when she entered and studiously ignored the other-Man?-that had entered. He would offer a little nod of confirmation if she looked his way, but in a suit of sleek armor, he was barely noticeable compared to Gambit's norm. "Eh... since it's just the three of us, can I buy anyone a drink? I'm lonely."

Aleric Fowl did not fancy the idea of buying Farai a drink. He disliked "Punks" with a passion. He turned away from the-boy?-and put his attention soley on Jade with an equal smile. "Aleric Fowl." He extended his own hand and gently clasped hers. "it is nice to meet you, madame."

Aleric Fowl smiled more genuinely. He gripped her hand the way a man was expected to and shook with matched force. "All is fair in love and war, my dear." He pushed a little tuft of brown hair from his brow with his free hand, then absent-mindedly pulled the slide back from his rifle and removed the magazine. Taking the bullet from the chamber would require both hands, unfortunately.

Aleric Fowl turned to the counter and slid the heavy round out of its home. He inserted it back into its magazine, then dropped that into a bag on his belt. "Thank ye, ma'am." He pulled a 12.7mm pistol from its holster and pulled the slide back, then set it to safety and replaced it.
