Alyss Shepard

An elegant and tempered woman, assassin and all around mercenary. Trained in firearms as well as implanted with devices allowing her to discharge bolts of electricity, she is a deadly fighter - but is perfectly well mannered for her unsavoury profession.

Description

Alyss Shepard
"Dark Lightning"

ImageName: Alyss Shepard
Age: 27
Date of Birth: 13th February
Place of Birth: Sector Twelve, Alpha Tau System, Starship Nynaeve
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Profession: Mercenary
Ancestry: Military

Abilities

Implants: Alyss has been implanted with physical enhancements, granting her increased bone strength - she could be hit by a car and emerge without a single broken limb - as well as implants in her extremities that allow her to discharge electrical charges and bolts within a moderate radius. Her final implant is in her skull, giving her a personal HUV display that she can access with thoughts, displaying information and helping with weapon targeting.

Equipment:

Carnifex Hand Cannon: A high powered and extremely accurate pistol, firing armour and shield piercing rounds, capable of punching through military grade armour, barely even noticing metals such as steel.

Viper Rifle: An automatic sniper rifle, with a twelve round clip, firing incendiary rounds.

Dual Shredder Machine Pistols: Automatic, 32 round clip machine pistols, firing armour piercing rounds.

OmniTool: Versatile technological gadget, worn on the back of the hand to form a holographic glove. Can serve as a phone, a computer, link into HUVs, and serve as a small scale gravity manipulator to lift objects up to the size of a cabinet or sofa (for example). Other functions are provided, but nothing I can be bothered to list (or is significant enough to need it).

Personality: Calm and controlled, Alyss rarely lets her temper get the better of her; though this is not to say she is a nice person, she is simply considerate and focused in her unpleasantness, nor does it mean she does not get angry, she simply does not explode in a rage. Anger might cause her to kill, but this would not be due to loss of temper, simply an utter disregard for life. The Sanctity of Life does not have a place in the mercenary assassin business, and it is an alien concept to her.

History: The daughter of a soldier and a criminal, Alyss' father - a captain in the Terran Fleet - was naturally unable to remain with her mother, an information broker, due to the connotations such a relationship would have for his career, and so Alyss did not meet her father throughout her childhood, raised only by her mother and her mother's ring of contacts. She was treated well by all of them, an indulgence of the normally hard and calculated criminals' soft sides. When she came of age, Alyss decided that she should take it upon herself to better serve her mother, and so arranged training with an assassin in her mother's employ, learning combat and subtlety. She soon became a valuable asset of the broker, eliminating those who stood in her path as easily as her teacher, and for no further pay than praise. Eventually, however, the desire to branch forth naturally occurred, and the young woman signed on to a mercenary organisation, serving several years in the ranks of the Dark Moon Mercenaries, before eventually earning enough of a reputation that she could effectively operate as a freelancer, charging exorbitant amounts for the toughest of missions, and this is where we find her today.

So begins...

"I hear that." Alyss took a glug of the vodka, smirking. "Without war, people would have to sit down and talk about their problems! Heaven forbid! We're far too angry a race for that. And where would the weapons and mercenary businesses be without it, eh?"

Alyss chuckled. "Eh. People who try for peace are idealistic, stupid. Humanity won't ever be at peace until Earth becomes a unified thing, when the aliens come down and force us to. Taking an example from sci-fi, obviously..."

"Thank you kindly." Alyss grinned, taking the cigar, "Posh stuff." she remarked, raising an eyebrow. "Personally, I ain't complaining. It makes for good business. Ain't I a pinnacle of moral standards, eh?"

The mercenary laughed, taking a drag of the cigar. "And thanks, I guess. I don't talk a lot outside of my regular circles, or work, so. Count yourself lucky." Alyss grinned again. "I do like to consider myself a step above the normal mercenary archetype of muscled, ignorant twit who can't hold down a regular job."

Alyss Shepard chuckled, "It can't really be called talking." she rolled her eyes, "If they can form a coherent sentence it's a miracle. No, I keep my distance. If I want to be wolf whistled at I'll walk past a construction site..."

The mercenary glanced at the frog thing, shaking her head. "And the sad thing is that isn't the weirdest thing I have seen this week."

"Luurrvely." Alyss rolled her eyes. "Not exactly luxury transport, is it, hun. Take a cab next time."

Alyss Shepard shrugged. "I'll answer questions, sure. I'm not sure about identifying myself as a guide though. A lot of stuff you can figure out intuitively. But sure, why the hell not. If I'm around, you can talk to me. There's probably a tourist office somewhere, too. Enough people end up here that it makes sense there'd be an information centre or something."

The mercenary grinned, "And if you were a steroid-fuelled halfwit, I wouldn't be talking to you." Leaning back on the bar, she examined Rurik's features idly. "Out of interest, why were you hiding your face? I mean, I find it unlikely anyone's going to recognise you here. What with it being a parallel reality, almost. Ish. A bit."

"Eh. It happens." Alyss shrugged. "There's more than just one world connecting to this city, area... place. Fantastical creatures abound, and shit like that happens." The mercenary seemed to notice Maelik for the first time. "I generally tune it out, like a bad TV drama."

She turned back to Rurik and smirked, "Personally I think that's kinda paranoid, but hey. I have barely any idea who you are, so. Nice hair, by the way -- doesn't strike me as a common soldier cut, though."

Alyss Shepard chuckled, "I'm sure it won't." she said, smirking. "And I'm human too -- I just have metal bits."

Adjusting herself in her seat to better face Rurik, Alyss raised an eyebrow. "Story time, huh?" the mercenary grinned, "Sounds like fun. I'm game."

"Eloquent." Alyss smirked. "I was imagining something more elaborate and lengthy, but I suppose that brevity has its own merits. You sound like a very interesting man, Rurik." The mercenary clicked her tongue. "I was born in space. I worked in the family business for a while, then decided I could make more money on the open market. 'nuff said."

Alyss nodded slowly, "Well, count yourself lucky that you're here rather than dead, I say. Mortar shells are unpleasant to say the least."

"Cost wise? Ah, I would say somewhere in the region of twelve thousand credits. That's a little less in American dollars, something along the lines of ten thousand, but I have no idea about the conversion to your currency." Alyss said, holding up her hand and examining her fingers in a ponderous manner.

Glancing at Enda, Alyss smirked. "Ah, but if I told you that I would not be working in my family's interests. Suffice to say, it was on a colony rather than space-based." She looked back to Rurik, "And space is as dark as it seems, truly. Darker. The stars seem more distant, somehow."

Alyss Shepard chuckled. "Rich only through business, I assure you. There is a surprising amount of pay out there for mercenaries, especially of higher calibre. Covert ops is a niche in the market."

Alyss nodded to Rurik. "Good luck with whatever it is you're up to, then. I've enjoyed our little chat. See you around." the mercenary lifted a hand o

Alyss Shepard lounged boredly off to the corner of the bar, a small paperback book held up to her face. She yawned, turning the page, and barely looked up at the flow of people into the ground.

She did look up, though, as someone started shouting orders. She looked up with a raised eyebrow, brushing white hair backwards from her face. Apparently unnoticed, the woman slipped backwards into the booth she had been sitting in, and hunched down to avoid detection.

Her hand went to the pistol at her side, and she narrowed her eyes.

Alyss Shepard grimaced. A purge? That sounded unhealthy. And she kinda did work for this bar, sort of. As security. That maybe had some sort of implications on whether or not she should help.

Maybe.

Alyss slipped her pistol -- or 'Hand Cannon' as it was called technically -- and tapped a key on her OmniTool. A dim orange glow flowed over her body, before fading, showing the activation of a personal kinetic barrier.

Lifting her pistol, she took aim from behind her table, and fired. Two shots, one to the chest of the soldier making to strike Vanora, and one to the side of the other. Following the shots, she shoved her table over and dived behind the metal furniture for cover. Hopefully she wouldn't regret that...

Oh, great! Now it was dark. Alyss hated fights in the dark. But at least she could do them. Briefly fumbling, the mercenary tapped her OmniTool again, activating her HUD's night vision.

With that, she popped up once again, and aimed a shot at the soldier with the radio, to try and cut off any more distress calls. She fired once, and dropped down. She was playing this one safe...

Alyss Shepard was, after activating her night vision, unfortunate enough to have utterly failed to notice Yuriko's attack. As a result, when the table was hit by the blast, it smacked straight into her, and both she and the piece of furniture were shoved backwards into the booth.

The only thing that saved her from being crushed against the wall was the fact that the table legs were pointed that way. A dull groan came from her as she attempted to regain her bearings, gripping her pistol and sliding back to against the back of the table till she could regain composure.

Alyss Shepard poked her head over the top of the table tentatively at the sound of the retreat, frowning.

"Well, that was fun, boys and girls! Now how about somebody finds the bloody lightswitch before I break my damn neck!"

Alyss Shepard casually leaned on the wall at the back of the bar, remaining out of sight. As bar security, this was entirely her business, but right now her attention was on the idiot of a police officer who was trying to bully her way through a situation involving idiots with guns just by shouting.

If she died on her shift (even though Stern would share the blame) it really wouldn't look good. Alyss' hand glowed faintly orange as she activated her Omni-Tool, in preparation for saving the silly bitch's life.

The shot fired in Cally's direction would ricochet off of seemingly nothing before it reached her (or missed her), briefly causing an orange ripple as the projected shield was hit.

"Big mistake. You just initiated a firefight. It's all self defence now."

Alyss smirked, pulling out her hand-cannon and unleashing three well-aimed shots directly for Straken even as he attempted to leave. Two of the shots would almost certainly hit him before he had a chance to escape the room, thanks to HUV's assisted targeting.

Before the androids went overkill, that was.
