Description

Duluth, Minnesota, U.S.A, June 4, 2003
¬ Anna Lawrence, an 8-year-old girl whom was attacked by a pack of wolves camping at the outskirts of Mercy Falls Wildlife Management Area, only two weeks ago today, has been found and returned to a hospital in Rural Duluth is on a road to a full recovery. What seemed like a deadly attack, the girl had recovered from it quite rapidly, no less than a miracle.
Due to the risk of this happening to any other visitors, people working in the management area have been asked to escort campers and tourists to designated places outside of the 'danger zone'. Most of these areas are protected by a fence that spans a few hundred acres, protecting the campers within whilst keeping the danger out.

Duluth, Minnesotam U.S.A, February 14th 2004
¬Researchers say that there has been a large increase in the amount of wolves in the Mercy Falls Wildlife Management area, some say that the increasing number of wolves can soon become a danger to the populace both around the management area, but in Rural Duluth as well. And are trying to find a way to lower the amount of wolves in the area before they become a danger to the general populace.

Duluth, Minnesota, U.S.A, September 23, 2005
¬ Anna Lawrence whom, in 2003 was attacked by wolves just off the Mercy Falls Wildlife Management Area, has been reported missing. The girls parents; Dean Lawrence and Abigail Lawrence, came home late Wednesday afternoon, to find their daughter gone. Anyone with information on the disappearance of Anna Lawrence, should get in contact with the local police station with all the information you have. Providing false information in an ongoing investigation is an offense and possible jail time for a minimum of 8 years.

Duluth, Minnesota, U.S.A, December 2, 2005
¬ The 10-year-old who disappeared from her home in Rural Duluth in the late September month is now presumed dead and all investigations regarding both Anna Lawrence and her two parents have ceased.

---------------

18th December, 2012
I thought the wolves that lived in the outskirts of Mercy Falls Wildlife Management Area were just normal wolves, and nothing else. I don't remember much of the attack, what I do remember is being pulled out from the small clearing where we were camping. I was dragged through the trees, surrounded by wolves. They clumsily clawed at me, biting carelessly at my skin and ripping at my clothing. And I did nothing. I just lay there, arms crossed over my chest, looking at the dark sky through the frozen trees.

I don't know how I escaped.

The last thing I remember was waking up in a hospital bed, my Mom and Dad sitting next to me, my Dad holding my Mom as she uncontrollably sobbed. I should of died - Apparently I was a miracle child.
The months after that, I resumed my normal life, until the day I turned ten. I feel ill and spent most of my schooldays in bed, at home, while my parents were at work. They hired someone to take care of me, but I don't remember much of him. And one day, I was in so much pain that I thought I was going to die. I spent most of my spare time thinking about the wolves. I could heir their howls from out my window every night and it filled me with a feeling that I didn't really understand.
Until It happened.

I changed.
I was an oddity even before I did change.
I thought werewolves didn't exist.

My wolf memories are hard to pull out of my human ones; but I remember knowing exactly where to go, as if a mysterious sixth sense was guiding me home. Through the forest and to the rest of the pack. There, I was with people who were like me. People who had once been bitten and had changed from human to their lupine skin. I remember the first few months with the pack - as I started to settle in - I couldn't get over the fact that we were supposed to be mythological creatures. We shouldn't exist.
After a few months my changing became more stable, and once I felt confident in my human skin, I went to find the rest of the pack whom had changed to human for that year. It was easy to find them, with my enhanced hearing and sense of smell it directed me right to the rest of the pack - so I guess there are some perks to being me.

There, in human form, they taught me how to hunt for food, wolf body language and how to read it and how to regain more control over when you change.
It was a long an arduous process, but I was devoted. It was the only thing that was driving me at that time - I mean, I couldn't go back to my parents, right? And no matter how much I wanted a normal life... I just couldn't have it. Sometimes I wonder why I got bitten in the first place. Why me and not someone else?
Why me?

The change from human to wolf is seen as a defense mechanism, they taught me that people are more prone to change into a wolf when they are either anxious, intimidated or angry. Weather has a little bit to do with it, sometimes you can change when it is cold. I usually wear warm clothes - because I don't want to risk it. Some of the people in the pack said that if you try hard enough you can make the change happen, without triggering it - but I have never tried. The problem is, no matter how much research the pack has done, they couldn't find out what triggers the change from a wolf back to a human. When someone changes into a wolf, we don't know how long it will be until they come back to the human pack. It seems to vary for every wolf. That's why I and some other of the human pack members cling to their humanity; for all we know, months can pass when we are a wolf and we wont even know it.

Bruce, the human pack leader, taught me how to identify people in their wolf forms. Our skin may change, but we get to keep our eyes. It's the one thing that we keep. Our eyes stay the same.

There weren't many rules to the pack, but there was one rule that everyone knew, that we cannot tell people not like us about our existence. Bruce said, that in the past, people have tried to hunt us down, experimented on us, and killed us in gruesome ways. But someone mustn't of listened - one winter day, when the snow was just starting to fall, they came for us. Hunters with shotguns and wearing fluro jackets attacked us - both the human pack and the wolf pack. We tried to attack them, and fend them off, but we weren't strong enough and we had to flee. I drove off to southern Minnesota with a girl from the wolf pack whom had changed back to human during the attack. Her name was Sandy, She was 16, and we drove for hours to get away. We tried getting in contact with Bruce, but he wouldn't pick up. Now by then, all we had was hope... hope that he was still alive and could lead us again.

But they found us.

They attacked both the girl and I. Not bothering with slowing us down they just went straight for the kill. We tried to flee into the surrounding forest, but Sandy wasn't fast enough. And they killed her. I watched her as her bloody and lifeless body just... dropped to the ground. I started shaking, I was angry, I was scared, and I knew I was going to change. I left her there, a warm bloodied body slowly growing cold. A shot rang out and I stumbled, blood was leaking from my sides - deadly war paint. And my shoulders shook with the change.
That was the last thing I remember. I know I changed that day, but I don't know how I escaped. But I did, and then I came here.
That was only a few weeks ago...

Now all I want to do is be reunited with my pack... if there are any of you left out there. Please, if any of you are still out there, my name is Anna Lawrence, born in Minnesota, and this is me:

If any of you are still out there, remember this: We get to keep them. It's the one thing we keep. Our eyes stay the same.
You have to recognize me.
Please, I miss you all and I just want to go home...
-Anna

Anna opened the door to the bar, this was the first time she had been here and all her moves were slow and deliberate - wary. She lowered her head slightly, so that when she looked around the bar anyone that was in there wouldn't be able to see the colour of her eyes. She new that people were different here - that there were people like her - but that didn't mean that they were accepting.

Anna closed the door behind her and walked into the bar, wearing a sleeveless tank-top with a checkered overshirt, jeans and sneakers, her footfalls not making a sound. Her head raised slightly, she heard the other person in the bar long before she saw them. Anna sniffed the air, and turned her head towards Isaac. Swallowing thickly, she was about to wave to the man before she saw something crawl over to the man, Anna's eyes widened, looking to the robotic creature with interest. But then she realized what she was doing and lowered her head slightly, narrowing her eyes as if she was focusing on something very carefully. She new that this probably made her look ridiculous, but she tried her best to hide the colour of her eyes - so it didn't raise questions.

Anna took a step closer to the two - I mean, she came here to get to know people - and waved, painted nails glinting under the artificial light. "Hi. I'm An-" she paused to clear her throat, "I'm Anna. And... you two are?"

Anna blinked a few times as the man talked to the robotic creature. She tilted her head, slightly, keeping her eyes down and scenting the air. She picked up most smells that normal people didn't, and she didn't think it was possible - but she could've sworn she could smell the metallic smell of said robot. Maybe it was just her thinking that she could sense it, she wasn't sure if things like that actually had a smell.

Anna bit her upper lip and looked to Isaac, she nodded. "Hi Isaac." She said in a polite tone, her eyes scanned the bar for a few moments before returning to the two. "So.. this is Gambit's, right?" She asked, pointing to the floor. Anna knew that is was Gambit's, she just needed something to talk about. Anna looked to the robotic creature again, before cursing herself silently and lowering her eyes once again.

Anna nodded and smiled, a smile that didn't really seem to reach her eyes exactly. "Oh, you got here yesterday?" She asked, before continuing "I came here a few weeks ago. I-I like it so far... I guess." She said, flicking her head in such a way that the long blonde hair that was over he shoulders flowed behind her back.

"But I haven't really gone anywhere since I moved in. So..." Anna shrugged, "... this is the first place I have actually been too."

Anna blinked a few times at what he said, before nodding and walking the few steps it took for her to close the distance between the seat and her. She sat down, putting her hands in her lap and looking down to them as she fiddled with her own fingers. Anna made sure not to look up too much, maybe people would just mistake her as shy, the way she always kept her head and gaze down. Hopefully they wouldn't think that she was hiding something. She knew it was ridiculous to be so self-conscious about the colour of your eyes, but lots of people stared at her eyes, and she didn't really like that.

Anna cleared her throat, "I thought it was going to be a bit more busy than... this." She commented, jerking her chin to indicate the bar.

Anna nodded in agreement. She had heard that the bar was usually busy and there were a lot of people there, that was why she wanted to go there in the first place. She looked to Isaac and smiled, trying to keep her head low "Party?" She asked with a smile "I don't 'party' much. But I have before, and I thought it was pretty fun." Anna looked around the bar.

"Don't the drunken people party much?" She asked.

Anna blinked a few times, "Not been to a single party?" She asked in disbelief. She watched him as he clutched his head, and her brow furrowed. "You need to get to know more people." Anna said with a nod, then realized that was a bit rich coming from her, since she literally knew no one here.

She attempted to change the subject, "So, how old are you?" Anna asked.

"You're not missing out on much - if they are not good ones, I guess." Anna said with a smile, she tilted her head slightly. Sniffing the air and immediately stopping herself - it was just a habit. After a few moments, she spoke up again

"Are you alright?"

Anna raised an eyebrow, "Headache medicine?" She asked, blinking a few times. She wasn't thinking straight, "Oh, right!" She said, looking to the backpack and reaching over and grabbing it. Anna did what he instructed, opening the fist pocket and finding the pill bottle. She opened it somewhat hurriedly and handed it to Isaac. "There you go. Water? You might need some water."

Anna stood and placed the back on her seat, before walking over to the counter. Instead of ordering something - like she should of - she leaned over the counter and grabbed a glass and poured some tap water into it. Fishing around in her pockets, she left a few coins on the counter and strode back to the man, placing the water on the table next to the pill bottle. Anna grabbed the backpack from her seat and sat back down, "Okay?"

Anna watched him as Isaac downed the pills, she kept both her head and eyes down, although she did look up to him in concern every now and then. Her head shot up when the man started to sway, "Are - are you alright?" Anna asked, before seeing him starting to fall to the ground. She shot up from where she was sitting and grabbed one of his wrists, pulling him back to a sitting position and holding his shoulder with her other hand to make sure he didn't fall again.

Anna felt his pulse under her hand, and looked up to Isaac again. She shook him lightly, "Hey, uh, Isaac, you alright? You okay?" She asked, brow furrowed in concern.

Anna shook him again, but no avail. She furrowed her brow, she had had people pass out before. One hand on his shoulder, she moved her other hand from his wrist and leaned over the counter to grab the bottle of medicine. She looked it over and shrugged. Anna left it on the table and still holding Isaacs shoulder, she walked around his seat that she was behind him. She was stronger than she looked, and weaved her hands under his arms and pulled him from the chair. Anna couldn't fully carry him, his feet were left to drag on the ground.

"I'm sorry." She said, looking around the bar for a few moments before she found the stairs. Having done her research, and knowing that was the hotel, she did the only logical thing and attempted to drag Isaac up the stairs and to the first floor. It hadn't once crossed her mind to call the ambulance or something... she didn't know the number for here anyways.

Anna was in the kitch, she had retrieved his backpack from down at the bar prior and put it on the small living room table. She was in the kitchen now, elbows on the table, brow furrowed at her phone on the countertop. She had thought of leaving, just leaving him to wake up - but she couldn't, she knew that she would feel guilty.

Even though she was a few rooms away, her head listed at the sound of heavy breathing from the only bedroom - in which normal ears couldn't hear. Without any second thoughts Anna strode from the kitchen and to said room, she rapped her knuckles on the door quietly before walking in.
"I-I rented out a room." She said, a frown on her face and looking guilty. "I wasn't sure what to do - if I should call anyone. So I brought you up here and..." Anna paused for a long moment, realizing that she was looking right at him the whole time and lowered her eyes. "Your bag is in the other room." She said quietly, still standing in the doorway.

Anna looked to Isaac on the bed, she waved a hand "Don't worry about it." She said with a small smile. "I couldn't just leave you there." Anna said, folding her arms over her chest and looking around the room for a few moments. A question on her mind

"What happened? Was it because of the pills or something?" She asked, curious.

Anna raised an eyebrow, with her back on the doorframe, and contemplated going over to him and helping him up. But she decided to wait a few moments, "Why do..." She paused for a moment, thinking over reasons as to why he would take pills that would make him pass out. Anna shrugged.

"Then why do you take them?"

Anna furrowed her brow and decided to walk into the room, instead of offering help to Isaac, however, she strode over to the wooden desk against the wall and sat on top of it, her legs hanging off. She looked to her feet, "Nightmares..." She mumbled in a quiet tone. Yeah, she had them too.

Anna looked up, "I know... what it's like. I get nightmares sometimes too, sometimes every night." She said, before biting her lip and clearing her throat. "But just... nevermind that. Do you need some help getting up?" She asked politely, standing back up from the desk.

Anna opened the door to the bar, and even though it wasn't a cold day, she wore a dark blue scarf, a black jacket, jeans, sneakers and matching black fingerless gloves. She liked being warm. Warm meant she wasn't cold, the warm was a reassurance like no other. Anna looked around the bar for a few moments, keeping her head down as she looked to all the patrons. Her nose crinkled and she smelled the predominant smell of antiseptic and... hospital. She hated that smell.

So, she decided to head to the exact person whom smelt like that - ironically the only person she knew at the time. Anna stopped in front of Isaac, looking to him and raising an eyebrow, narrowing her eyes as if she was focusing really hard. Anna tilted her head and looked to Connor, hiding the colour of her eyes the best as she could, all the while trying to get a good look of the man.

"Is that really a way to speak to a customer?" She asked, raising both brows. Shaking her head slightly, she looked back to Isaac, her brow furrowed. "What happened to you?" Anna asked.

Anna tilted her head down slightly, her long blonde hair flowing over her shoulders, and frowned. "Wow." Was all she said in reply, looking around the bar for a few moments. "That's got to suck. I guess.. you went to the hospital, so it will be alright." She said, moving her hands to her neck and adjusting the dark blue scarf around it.

Although, at the corner of her eyes she saw some movement, annoying in her peripheral vision, she turned her head and lowered it. Hopefully just in time for the creature and the man not to see the bright and vibrant colour of her eyes - it was not that it revealed anything about her, it was just that she was a bit self-conscious about it. Anna narrowed her eyes at the creature, and out of instinct, she scented the air again. Her senses weren't as strong in this form, but they were still advanced over that of a normal human. With a small smile, she offered a wave back to Marlin.

Anna turned slightly to look back at Isaac, "Must've been horrid." She commented.

Anna watched Isaac as he clutched his chest, she furrowed her brows and slowly sat next to him. She looked over him for a few moments, to the wound on his chest. "I am fine. I can't say the same for you." She said, wiggling her fingers and looking around the bar for something - anything useful in this situation. Anna didn't like to see anyone in pain.

"Do you have anything for that? Did the doctors give you anything for the pain?" She asked - Hm, that's weird, Isaac didn't say anything about being in a hospital, or going to a doctor for that matter. Anna saw that Isaac was getting up to go home, and she gave him a curt nod as he left. "You take it easy!" She called as he walked out of the bar - well, kind of stumbled.

Anna turned to Marlin, keeping her head low and hopefully her eyes mostly out of vision. "Yeah, you can." She said with a smile, although, somewhere inside her instincts told her not to trust the little creature. She was worried that she might of replied to Marlin a bit too aggressively, but didn't push the topic further.

"Are you... have you been here before?"

Anna looked down to Marlin for a few moments, still squinting as if she had something in her eyes. She nodded, at what Marlene said, moving her hands to her gloves and pulling them down slightly, wiggling her fingers and getting more comfortable in them. Anna looked back to Marlin, "My name is Anna and... a pleasure meeting you, too." Although she was trying to be polite, and remain in eye contact with the creature. She found she couldn't, for more reasons than one - her eyes were constantly drawn to the ears atop their head and the tail dancing with the air behind them.

Realizing that she was being rude, Anna snapped back to Attention, a tight smile on her face. "I could tell you were from France. I am kinda new here too." She said, making a small gesture with her gloved hand as if to indicate 'kinda'. "I came here from America." Anna said, nodding.

Anna smiled at that, "Why, thank you." She said with a smile, although it didn't seem to meet her eyes. Possibly a repercussion of her squinting. "I like your name too, it's.. cute." She offered politely in reply. Anna was about to ask the little creature something, until it spoke again.

She was caught off-guard by the question, and her breath hitched in her throat, rendering her incapable of answer for a few moments. For a moment, Anna contemplated whether she should be honest. No, she was not human - she was far from it. She still wasn't used to living here, in Wing city, knowing that people were different and like her. Back at home, she had never been asked that question, thus not needing to answer it - because people were... normal there. Besides her pack, that were like her.

"Yes." Anna said suddenly, a bit too rushed. "Yes. I'm human." She said, already feeling guilty from the lie. She let her yellow gaze dart around the room before resting - albeit nervously - back on Marlin. "America?" Anna asked, swallowing thickly. "Well, for one - it's cold." She let out a short laugh, devoid of humour. Furrowing her brow as she thought of ways to describe, well... home.

"It's hard to describe what it is like, when you have been there your whole life - and have had nothing to compare it too.. I guess." And despite what she said, she followed to ask a question, "W-what about in France? Can you describe it?"

The creature didn't seem like a mean one at that, although Anna was still wary and nodded in agreement. "Yes. That must be it, I have a dog at home." She nodded, rushing with her words - although not deliberately. She was thankful that Marlin had gone off the topic.

Anna was brought back to attention from her quick and accidental daydreaming, avoiding eye contact as best as she could, she answered "Well, some parts are. Where I come from, it is. At least now, around Christmas. It get's very cold." Anna said with a nod, wrapping her arms around her and nearly shivering at the memory of the cold. She hated the cold. She raised an eyebrow, "Yeah, I probably will be able." Anna said in reply, "But I just really arrived here about a week ago. It's hard getting used to the fact that it's not really snowing here." - and it was a good change. Anna gestured to the window as she said so.

She nearly clapped when Marlin mentioned pictures, Anna would love to go to France one day. "Ooo!" She said, a wide smile on her face, "Yes please! I mean, if you have them first hand. I wouldn't want to inconvenience you."
