Description

Ms. Anne Deni Sofani

Image
This image is the sole possession of the owner.

Rank: A high-standing young woman who has previously married into a Lord's family.

Race: Human

Age: 24 years

Hair: Ms. Sofani's hair reaches her shoulder blades, falling in unruly curls that take hours to tame. Due to this, Ms. Sofani typically keeps her dark auburn hair up in manageable buns.

Eyes: A very dull blue that may appear as grey.

Height: Ms. Sofani stands at a very respectable five foot, nine inches.

Weight: 132 lbs

Past relationships: Anne was previously married to Lord Andrew Shorting, but this ended when the Lord was killed in a hunting accident.

Equipment: Ms. Sofani typically carries a dainty parasol, a pair of lace gloves (in a colour that matches her dress, of course) and a money pouch, which is typically tucked beneath the ruffle of her over-shirt.

History: From her birth, Anne was raised by her parents in a perfect household. She has one brother, still living, who is three years older than she, and had a sister, who unfortunately died three months after birth due to an infection. From the age of twelve, the a private group took control of Anne's education, and it is due to this group that the girl ended her teenage years married to the prestigious Lord Shorting. Now that her husband has passed, her family is hoping that she can once again marry a suitable male - though it doesn't appear to be going quite as well this time around.

So begins...

"You also forget that you little to no information on the Learning Faction. You have no idea who they are, what they possess or how they could possibly become a problem if you were to actually attempt to eradicate their vast numbers. Let me assure you that, had it been as easy and vulgar as simply ridding myself of a problem like that, I would not have waited to meet you until I had the orders taken out."

Anne Sofani turned her head to regard Johnny Izumi and, rather than answering the Assassin straight away, she nodded to the teenager. "Of course. As for you, sir," the lady added, looking back to The Assassin, "you do not address me in such a way. My name is Anne Sofani, and you should have called me 'ma'am' or 'lady' until you were correctly informed of my given name. I do not condone such vulgar behaviour."

Anne Sofani picked up her gloves and hat, as well as her parasol, before standing from her uncomfortable stool and making her way to the booth that Izumi had indicated. "Speak as you like," the woman prompted the teenager, waiting patiently to hear what he had to say.

"I see," Anne murmured, nodding her head. "I suppose that may be true, but unfortunately it was a necessary burden for me to bear if I had what I needed carried... Never mind. There are always others to talk to," she said, standing beside the booth with a raised eyebrow directed towards Johnny.

Anne Sofani took a seat, careful to mind her skirts, and look towards Izumi from her straight-backed position opposite him. "It's more a problem in my lifestyle and the era in which I was born - surely you see how differently I dress to those around us? Clearly, this city is well beyond the years that I am from... But my problem is avoidable if handled in the correct manner, and for that to happen I need to find suitors and wed within the year."

"Unfortunately, I don't think you'd quite cut the image needed to solve this problem. He has to be a man of nobility, high grace and higher stature, you see... And whilst I'm sure you're a perfectly pleasant young man, you're nothing to the men I have to impress. I thank you for the compliment, however, and ask that you explain how you think you can possibly help without the required information."

"That's my point. Unless you're in the Navy or are from Scotland, then there's no way that my parents and the leaders of the L.F. would ever think of accepting my marriage proposals without any prior knowledge of you. There are, however, ways to get around that with a bit of careful hinting, but that would make a simple situation a lot harder than it needs to be. But you did not answer my earlier query..?"

Anne Sofani shook her head with a smile. "Quite all right. I have another question to ask before I give out any sensitive information, however - how on Earth do you plan on helping? I'm sure you just heard me explain to the uncouth bartender that murdering people is not the way forward. I happen to like my family.

Anne Sofani gave a pretty little laugh, hidden behind her hand, and shook her head. "Forgive me, but that made me laugh - ever so rude of me, I apologise. But... I suppose I should share a bit of information. The Learning Faction is made up entirely of English humans. However, we all have a slight 'difference', I suppose you could say, some form of strange mutation that makes us so valuable to the men at the top of the ladder..."

"We appear to be in possession of strange abilities. I, for example, am what they call a Receiver. When I want to, I can 'receive' the emotions of others. A man I know in the Faction is capable of giving out these emotions, and he is called a Transmitter... Strange little abilities that don't seem like much but, when put together on a grander scale, can become very, very useful. And the fact of the matter is that no one would ever suspect us of it, would they?"

"The Transmitter? He's married. Has been several times, his wives have this awful habit of dying every Christmas morning. This latest one is the first one to last through Christmas and New Years. We're honestly rather surprised..."

Anne Sofani shook her head, holding up a hand. "It's fine, really. I know how to work out this problem by myself, but that's not to say I wouldn't appreciate the help. I've already got a wonderful gentleman coming to tea today or tomorrow who thinks he may be able to help!"

Anne Sofani peered down at the tea with idle confusion. "Won't it be rather cold by now? It has been many, many minutes since you ordered the tea..." Anne asked curiously. "Besides, Damien might thing something strange was happening if I were to accept tea from a stranger."

Anne Sofani gestured to a man at the counter who had been watching them, incapable of hearing them, for some time now. "My company for the day. It's unjust for a woman to go travelling by herself in a closed carriage, I'm sure you understand. But, I must leave... My invitation has been delivered and that is all I came to do," the woman said as she pulled on dainty gloves and replaced her hat upon her head, little ribbon tied beneath her chin to keep the small accessory upon her head. "If you'll excuse me!"

Ms. Anne Sofani had, after the death of her husband, moved back in with her parents, as was the custom, having left her acquired estate in the hands of Andrew's brothers. Now, it did feel strange going from 'Lady of the Household' to occasional hostess in her mother's home, but there was no doubting that she felt entirely comfortable here, where everything was familiar.

The house itself was large, conservative in style, none too frilly but certainly telling of the family's wealth. Anne's father, Lord Sofani, had retreated to his study until he was called for dinner - he'd make his acquaintances with the guest when the two shared company over some fine cigarettes - and Lady Sofani was stalking about with the kitchen maids, ordering them here, there and everywhere.

"Mother, I'm sure that the flowers are positively charming!" Anne had enthused, but it was to no avail, and the table had been reset three times before the elder woman was satisfied.

Now, they just had to wait for their guest to call, and then the introductions could begin...

"Anne, you change that dress right now - that's for pleasant company!"

"Mother, my guest is pleasant company."

"Miss Sofani, Madam, there is a carriage approaching according the gateman's wife."

"Anne, change that dress!"

"Mother, there's a maid altering your table setting."

The comment had the desired effect, for soon Lady Sofani was stalking off into the dining room with a scowl on her face.

"Olivia, could you please fetch my door jacket, I'll meet our guest."

"Oh, Miss Anne, you shouldn't, it's cold outside!"

"I'll only be out for two minutes!"

The two women, one a lady in her own right and the other a servant, had been in the same house since the age of five when Olivia's mother was hired and given room and board for her family. Anne had even attempted to teach the comely girl how to read in their early teens, for Olivia couldn't afford school, although that had ended up with no small amount of friction when Olivia insisted that her ABCs were too difficult.

"Miss Anne, don't go outside, Lady Sofani will be most displeased."

"Thank you for my coat, Olivia."

Anne Sofani greeted Drake with a polite little curtsey. "Mister Shardon, please, do come inside," she smiled, gesturing with a gloved hand at Olivia, who was holding the door open for the pair. "Mother and Father will be joining us for dinner. Father's currently finishing off his work, but he'll be down as soon as he fancies," the woman added.

Lady Sofani was still meandering around in the dining room, triple-checking every little detail. Anne actually looked embarrassed by her mother's bustling (as did most of the staff who passed).

"Mother likes to be sure that everything is correct... Olivia, please inform Mother that Mister Shardon has arrived."

The female staff all gossiped to one another once the lady and her guest had passed, giving careful little whispers to one another before darting off to the kitchens in order to do their jobs.

"Here, Mister Shardon, is our front sitting room," Anne informed, gesturing through a doorway. "We shall have tea here in wait for my father's business to finish before we head to the dining room."

Now this room was clearly the pride and joy of Lady Sofani's; there was a family portrait featuring a nine year old Anne, a lavish suite with expensive throws and pillows adorning the dainty furniture, as well as a coffee table that held at least three separate pieces of silver decoration.

"Take a seat, please, Mister Shardon..."

Anne could be described as many things, but only one adjective stood out right now. Boring. The young Englishwoman was dressed in a very simple pinafore, complete with the usual underskirts and petticoats, of course, and her usual jaunty hat and smile were absent today. The most likely reason for this was the deadline that she could almost feel coming closer and closer with every passing minute.

Still, that didn't stop her attempting to solve the problem with one simple thing. She'd heard that marriages seemed to happen within minutes in this Godforsaken place, so here she was in Gambit's Bar, looking rather out of place judging by the expression stretched across her face. Now to see if the rumours were true and she'd be able to ward of the Faction's disapproval for a little while longer...
