Personality

Personality Description

Conditioned for battle from an early age, Apex-1 shows signs of being cocky. He looks down on an opponent unless granted some form of challenge. It should be noted however that when not in combat the Chimera known as Apex-1 displays almost child-like traits, these traits would apear to be the beast's true personality, which draw back into the mind when faced with battle.

Strengths

-No Fear: Apex was conditioned to feel no fear in battle. An enlarged adrenal gland keeps his blood filled with adrenaline. "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

-Rage: With the enlarged adrenal gland in place Apex can begin to enter a berzerker rage at any time, greatly raising strength and speed, gaining greater focus and clarity. "Hulk smash? No. Apex Destroy."

- Tank-Birth: Created in a lab Apex was exposed to many things to enhance him. From the nanites that shaped his organs to the radiation that stimulated his growth, the building blocks of his life were perfected to create a flawless being. While in the tank the brain was stimulated, increasing capacity and raising the general IQ. "E=Mc2, means this solanoid quelch round...is going to leave a mile wide crater...where your family is hiding."

- Tinker: Being tech savy has it's perks, Apex can use most tech devices after looking them over quickly. "Point the bad end at you...and fire."

Weaknesses

-Inexperienced: While being quite powerful, Apex has never faced something outside of the lab simulations. "These bullets hurt...they are NOTHING like the books said.."

-Curiosity: Since Apex was raised in an inclosed space he looks upon the outside world with quite a child-like viewpoint. Easily excitable and quite curious. Due to the increase in IQ while in the tank, Apex has a deeply rooted scientific mind, more interested in learning than in socialization. "...The sky...it's so blue, the clouds...where do they get the clouds? Condensed water vapor...no, magic. That's what they are."

-Tech Dependant: While the magnetic abilities are quite useful, Apex still prefers to use tech in battle. "Curse your mind-bullets! Hacks! That is what they are."

Abilities
Electro-Magnetics- Using the heightened levels of Magnetite in his brain Apex can alter magnetic fields. While this sounds vague it is hard to explain. Through manipulation of the magnetic field of his hands for instance he can either attract metals; grabbing a sword or armor bit and holding it without damage and without breaking his hold. Or the opposite; reversing the polarity and unleashing bursts of force- pushing outward in blasts. Each hand is able to generate up to 500PSI of push as a minor action, greater forces require time and gathering.

Nanites- As a minor innate, the Chimera Species houses a special colony of nanites, these have grown within the bodies of the beasts and are sheilded from EMPs, as the Chimera use electromagnets often. These nanites serve as a second immune system of sorts, providing accelerated healing and immunodefence against viruses. No where as powerful as medical grade nanites, these typicaly handle the jobs that the Chimera's natural white blood cells lack capacity for.

Iron Belly- The specialy designed nanite-digestion tract (See history) allows for the consumption of anything the Chimera can choke down. From wood to stone, no matter the material's makeup..the belly will break it down into some form of energy. Side effects do include constipation and or diareah, depending on what is consumed. Poisons and other toxic things are filtered out quickly, with minimal effects.

Synth Lungs- The hybrid lungs of the Chimera (See history) allow for filtration of harmful gases. However, the bio-filters clog like any other, and require quick cleaning through an inhaler. To avoid this the MK7 Armor is an inclosed system. The lungs allow for emergency breathing in bad conditions..but are hardly perfect.

Racial Bonuses
+Adrenal Bonuses.
+Increased speed and strength.
+Increase to mental and physical stats when in group of Chimera.
+Nanite-regeneration over time.
+Toxicity.

Skills

Hand-to-hand: Trained against the toughest simulations and androids that DesCorp could afford. Apex's natural strength is easily ten times that of a standard human, augmented by the suit however it is well over twenty.

Bladed Weapon: Skilled with most bladed weapons, preferring large knives over swords however; the Kukuri is a specialty.

Ranged Weapon: From guns to arrows, Apex has trained with them all. While not a favorite way of dealing death, they will not be ignored. Pistols and shotguns are preferred.

Augmentations/Mutations

Toxicity- The saliva and blood of the Chimera is a violent neurotoxin mixed with some form of anticoagulant. The results from bite-tests show a near continuous bleed while the target suffered paralysis and seizures. Death results from exsanguination or cardiac arrest, whichever happens first. Absorption through the skin causes severe reactions; bleeding pores, spreading rash, seizures and convultions. Injestion or direct exposure to blood are fatal.

Sphyrnidae- Heightened olfactory system; The hammerhead shark can smell a single drop of blood in the ocean from five miles away.

Felidae- Enhanced strength and agility; Heavily augmented strain of Panthera, leading towards a stronger 'Tiger-Panther' build. Lean and muscular.

+++++++++BREAK+++++++++

Upon dissecting the dead female's body we were able to make a more detailed report. It seems our efforts were a success; we have created a hybrid being. The being's form is that of a humanoid- Two arms, two legs, one head. Yet inside it is something else. Internal organs are both strangely located and oddly formed. From the exposures the fetus came in contact with the lungs are almost completely changed, as is the heart and brain. The stomach is one of the strangest features yet; it is entirely artificial.

It seems the nanites introduced to the live tissue have formed some form of symbiotic relationship in the form of a new stomach. In place of digestion the organ simply assimilates anything the 'child' eats, breaking it down into carbon and filtering the waste. Where normal digestion would yield energy from sugars this stomach-system instead provides direct energy. As the nanites work on the object they produce heat and vibrations, these are then converted over to kinetic energy and worked along the surface of the organ where they are absorbed into strange new 'feeler' organs and used to stimulate the heart and other organs.

The heart itself is double the size nature normally intended, with nearly endless potentiality for physical exertion. It is a runner's heart, a fighters heart, with it beating at a slow pace it would still be pumping about four times the normal amount of blood. This mammoth muscle provides the being with boundless potential; it would be hard pressed to get worn out in combat or any other activity. NOTE: Later tests should determine transplant options; sports stars = $$$
The brain looks normal at first glance, until one notices a strange webbing of black spread across most of the frontal lobe. This in itself is not all that odd; all brains contain trace metals, magnetic in nature, it's how animals find paths North and South for migration and such. In this case however the metals are quite noticeable; yet do not respond to any form of magnetism available, the function is a mystery. The only other thing of note is the Endocrine system.
The typical brain's endocrine system controls the base fight or flight actions; it handled the explosion of adrenaline that spikes when we feel fear. In the case of the beings..it is always pumping. This constant flow of adrenaline is only made possible by the larger heart; it can handle the extra blood pressure. With it's system running full time, the adrenal gland is massive. We think this may grant the being's a 'Berserker' mode.
Further mutations appear when looking at the skeletal system. The bones themselves seem almost bird-like, lighter than we expected. An outer shell of a composite between crystal lattice and calcium provides a durable sheath, while a strangely liquid core acts as marrow. It is unknown how this will change as the subjects age and grow. One would surmise that in time the liquid would either harden into a solid or a gel. Beyond the strange composition the rest of the skeleton is normal, until you reach the hands.

Where as humans typically have five fingers; four digits and an opposable thumb, the hands of the subjects only has three. One is seen as a thumb, fully equal to our own, only slightly larger. The other two seem to function perfectly in gripping, not at all a handicap, they too are larger than regular. If one were to tape the pointer to the middle, and the ring to the pinkie it would be comparable. As of yet the children are to young to test strength correctly, but the autopsy reveals the potential for quite a strong grip.
The muscle tissue of the children is remarkable. The exposure to elements and factors in the womb created a need for stronger muscle tissue, while the added nanites went to work enhancing the natural evolution. Individual muscle fibers in the children appear to be about 50% flesh and 50% artificial, much like the other points where joining has occurred the nanites have formed a symbiotic relationship. When the tissue is stretched to what one would call it's breaking point the artificial strands extend to allow more give, recoiling back much faster and harder than normal tissue would allow; we project the impact force from a fully developed arm delivering a punch to be equal to if not surpassing the force generated by a jackhammer's drill point.

The developed toxicity that killed off the final few in the womb is unknown; no trace is left viable in the dead child, yet evidence points to a powerful neurotoxin.

While we do not believe the children will ever possess the raw physical power on par with comic book super heroes, no throwing of cars or bending steel girders, they will be quite powerful when fully mature. We are working closely with the Aegis Program in developing the synthetic combat armor meant to be used by the subjects. Upon reaching maturity the subjects will receive the proscribed 'Chitin' upgrade.

Chitin- Super-dense poly weave plates, implanted sub-duraly. Flexible, due to the amalgamated plastic design, built with the subject's own DNA samples to resist rejection. The Chitin Armor system will be adhered to the subject's skeletal system to provide extra protection from internal injury. Thin, the plates will only be measurable by laser, hardly a hair's thickness, yet tough as inch thick steel.

As of yet we do not have any idea why the hair grew in as strands of microcrystals; it looks like normal hair in most respects, it's just far harder. Perhaps the body was simply providing a defense against the harsh environment. For whatever reason all the hair on the children's bodies is comprised of this strange fiber. As of yet the only unusual feature of note is the ability the crystals possess to change color; this allows the children to change hair color at will.

Further tests will be needed to document how the children grow.

-From the notes of a DesCorp scientist, dated 13 years ago.

Apex-1 One of Descorp's specail warriors shambles into the Tavern. Armored and armed to the teeth, it was a living tank. Stenciled along the right shoulder was a single word 'Apex'. Stationed here, for who knows why and for who knows how long, the beast would aid in security- Nox's orders.

Apex-1 A grunt, Apex noticed the stare, and waved a hand at the seemingly frail creature. He was not attuned to feeling the spirit of the female, so he had no idea that in this case...strength was not just a physical thing. If push came to shove however..Apex could probably learn. "What? Take a picture or something."

Apex-1 A shiver, something about this one seemed off. The eyes? No. Apex had come across blind folks before. What was it that make his skin crawl about this chick? Dismissing his feelings and focusing on her approach he shrugged and loosened his shotgun. "Ma'am, Im gonna need you to keep well back from me."

A sound would easily be noticed by the blind girl, the CHIK-CHAK of the slide on a shotgun being worked. The massive DCSS-12 made plenty of noise, even when it wasn't being shot.

"No offence, but you're creepy as shit. Im here because I was ordered to be here. That's all you need to know."

Apex-1 The gun would lower slightly, but not shift from aiming at the woman. Apex was slightly confused. This person seemed human, kind of, but also not. This was some kinda supernatural bar though, so whatever. His optics would sweep the female, changing spectrums a few times, looking for a reason she gave him the willies.

"I cock a weapon at something, alright...what it is, I don't know yet. " he grumbled some, eyeing the readouts on his screen. This lady's vitals were odd, but then again..it might be normal for her species. Space travel made all his data unreliable. "No, not your ya know..stuff. Just some kinda feeling I get."

He would sigh a little and lower the gun slightly more. It WAS wrong to point guns at people..he knew that. Just this place had him on edge. Three of his squad mates were posted outside, so he wasn't alone or anything. This place was just odd.

Apex-1 "Yeah, that sounds about right. A vibe." Apex replied, as he spoke however he sent a command uplink to his squad- each could now see through his visor's camera. It would let them know if something happened to him..and allow them to fire through the walls and hit the woman without needing to aim at her directly.

"What are you? The only other person I have felt this from was my boss. And he ain't normal..." That was quite an understatement, but close enough. Apex was thinking long term as well. Whatever this chick was...it could be used. Either taken into Descorp..or scraped up and cloned after he blew it apart. Time would tell.

Apex-1 "A zombie then?" the shotgun's barrel would lift slightly, aimed at the head rather than the chest now. Everyone knew you shot zombies in the head. Hell, somewhere out there was a world infested by the flesh-hungry bastards- Descorp had brought them a better means of waging war, the idiots used it. Good thing gold spends on any rock.

"Yeah, Im thinkin that whole undead thing might be why you were creepin me out. So, why arn't you munchin of some dudes arm or something. You're rather...articulate for a zombie." this explained her odd vitals- dead people tended to throw off the norms, especially when they went about shambling about.

Apex-1 "As much as my system can. It's having a hard time dealing with the data though. My GPS is fucked too. According to it Im in Mexico. And the date is 1384. I hate this system." he reached up and tapped at his visor lightly. "Seriously though, you're not a zombie? That's not..what...a zombie trick, is it? 'Oh, Im not gonna eat you...' then you eat me?"

Apex had a sense of humor, a rarity in the Chimera Corps. They were mostly just interested in killing things. He was also one of the few First Generation left, so that might be part of it. Later batches were weaned more towards violence, aimed at being more or less just walking guns. It made them hell on wheels in a fight...but left them lacking some of the more basic manners.

Apex-1 He would shrug and lower the gun fully, if needed he could always raise it again..hell, he wasn't even sure the blind chick knew he had been aiming it at her. What was the point of adopting a threatening pose...if your opponent couldn't see you? "Yeah, you also don't smell like a zombie. They stink. Loosened bowels and rotting flesh."

He relaxed some. If she was just bored and stuff he knew those feels, he could help at least pass the time. Hell, he was here to guard- he wasn't NOT guarding if he was talking.

"Yeah, I got a thing with electromagnetism, maybe that's why I noticed you or something. I dunno. Maybe your energy just resonates close enough to show up for me?" he paused, thinking of sitting down, but unsure if the chairs could handle his suit's weight.

"It is entirely possible, I'm sure." She returned to her usual, melancholic face.

"My name is Ryoko. Matsuo Ryoko." She turned to the counter, sitting and shifting her heartless eyes toward the counter. Impulsively, she began drumming on the wood in a rhythmic, intricate pattern. Her left hand seemed to play a heavy, dark drum beat while her right supported it with a light, flowery latin-feel.

"Do you have a name?" Ryoko asked.

Apex-1 He would shrug slightly and then pause. Of course the blind chick couldn't read his name tag. What an idiot. He decided that the bar had enough durability to support his frame, so he leaned against it some before answering her, "Yeah, they call me Apex."

In truth Apex had no idea if that was his name..or title. All he knew was that his armor was stenciled with it. Most of the newer Chimeras didn't have names, they were just numbers. Maybe that made it easier to send them into war-zones. Maybe it was just for the sake of keeping track of all of them. Either way...it made Apex feel special to have a name of his own.

One or two of his generation had names as well, but he hardly saw them anymore.

"So, you just wander about being ignored? Must suck." he would comment, before realizing how harsh that sounded, "I mean, yeah..sorry. Didn't mean to sound like a dick."

Apex-1 Large and armored, the Chimera moved through the area. Stenciled on it's chestplate was the name Apex-1, which was rare- most Chimera only had numbers for names. This one moved with a purpose- it was late. Already squads were moving about the Hollow and the surrounding area, setting up defenses and distribution centers. Word had it a Science Team was about to touchdown. For The Boss to send in the Blue Hand..things were serious.

Apex-1 This damn Hollow was so big, protecting it was going to be a challenge. The Science Team would make things better. They had all the best gear. Suddenly the armored being would stop, a priority call over the Vox-caster. A vampire was supposed to be finding a volunteer. The image played across his HUD, and an auto-scan indicated that the man was close. Apex blinked and looked about, taking note of his position...and the woman he was talking to. Was she it?

A shudder passed through the hulk's form- something that drew that must be worth noting. What made the hardest fighters shudder? 'two by two...hands of blue' the thought comes without warning- the childish rhyme that was whispered behind the Science Team's back.

Apex-1 Apex arrived where he had been told to go, lugging the batch of nanite injectors in a pack and a metal case. He had been instructed to locate that vampire chick in charge of the military, Athena? Something like that. Once he found her he was to get the soldiers started taking the injections. Apex would nod towards the barracks and once again lift the case. "We are working on a way to just add this stuff to your food, but until then it's needles and injectors."

Apex-1 'Messenger' Apex grumbled to himself some as he moved into the room, of all the crap jobs. Why didn't they send a squad of Dragoons? Slipping his pack off he kneels, opening a section he removes a compressed air injector and loads in a vial. "I need all of you to roll up your sleeves. You will feel kinda odd afterwards, but it's just the nanites getting used to your body."

He moves to the first and presses the tip against his flesh. A Hiss sounds as the air blasts and delivers the dosage. It would sting slightly, but these were vampires..soldier ones, if it hurt they would keep it to themselves. Apex would press a button and the next dose would rotate into place..meanwhile the micro bots began moving through the blood of the first, replicating and adjusting. In moments the soldier would be infused...and within an hour or so the colony would be protecting the host from sunlight among other things.

Well.

This was something.

Dorotea sighed softly as first a knock sounded on the door, then someone chose to simply kick the thing in. Rude people. She shrugged and pressed a point in her throat, activating her Vox Caster, speaking the code words needed to bring aid. See, Pandemic had thought things through, he knew there was bound to be hiccups along the way- he knew Dorotea got bored at times, and got into trouble, so he had placed certain...safeguards in to his plans. "Make it Rain."

Descorp had once been an ally of the vampires, supposedly, and in the time they stayed here they introduced an option- Take a shot, Enjoy the sun. No one questioned this gift horse...so they lined up by the hundreds. Each one taking a shot, that at first was a boon, it allowed the vampires to walk the day again- they no longer had to fear fire, and a few other small perks. What they didn't know, as none of them asked...was that they also allowed Descorp to activate them..and control them, as a kind of Sleeper Cell. As Dorotea spoke the phrase keyed into this block's wireless, about two dozen vampires went berserk. Each one roared like the monsters they were, each one ripped away the clothing that they now found tight fitting and binding...and each one doubled in size as the nanites triggered changes in the musculature and bone structure of each...creating a pack of massive savage beasts.

These monsters smashed in through the walls like a team of SWAT members on angel dust.

Dorotea laughed in glee, this was going to be fun!

At that moment, far above the planet's surface on the Descorp Flagship, the situation was being monitored. Troops were on standby- if things got messy, Nox was going to drop the hammer. A full squad of Chimera were in the transport room, as well as Apex. The combined force would be more than enough to clean up this little debacle. How this group had come to know of the plans was a mystery, but it did not matter. Things would still end in ash and tears.

"Sir, Pandemic on the line. He says he is minutes away from the location. He will provide additional support." a low level tech spoke out, looking to his boss for confirmation. The inky entity paused a moment, before nodding his support. The being was willing to allow Pandemic to run this operation, but would brook no failure. Should things look as if they were tilting in a less favorable outcome he would beam down there himself.

"Ready the squad anyway, set coordinates for a hot landing, weapons free. This is going to be messy...one way or the other. Remember, if we do this right....we don't get dirty." the being nodded and exited the command hub, heading down the long hallway to the transport room. It paid to prepare ones self for the worst.

Pandemic roared down the road, the vehicle was not long for this world, it had taken quite a beating getting here from Wing City. How had his plans been discovered? There was no paper trail. There was no witnesses..other than the few in town, and they would be simple to silence...so..how? This would require more investigation. But first..it was lunch time. He leaned over and spoke to Mose "Hang onto your butt, we are rolling into a warzone, Kid."

Well, this had all escalated very quickly. "This is why I don't leave my house!" Rune whined in panic, seeing the vampires-on-steroids charging towards the house and doing the first thing that came to mind.

Running directly away from them.

This of course took him further into the house, and the terrified young man swiftly ducked for cover behind a chest of drawers and proceeded to cower trembling out of sight. Him? A coward? Never.

However, despite his non-action, his presence would have an ... interesting effect on the fight that was about to ensue. Everyone and anyone involved would find themselves intermittently suffering from inexplicably poor luck.

Fortunately the town had guards stationed throughout its streets at all times, and the brunt of the berzerking vampires were swiftly intercepted and engaged out in the streets as the locals attempted to subdue the unfortunate victims of Descorp. Only a small handful would likely reach the building unhindered. The entire town was surrounded in a fifteen foot high wall as well, and with the commotion breaking out within the square it was likely that the guards and the Forces Detante would be on high alert all across the town for anyone trying to come or go from it. The town was well protected from assaults and getting past the outer walls and military defenses of the Forces Detante would be a hard fought challenge for arriving reinforcements.

Meanwhile for those vampires that did reach the building, they would unfortunately find that which was contained inside of it far less humanitarian than those that were attempting to subdue the ones out in the streets. The wolf-mind had been a caged animal within Maria, and it had been prowling the bars of its confinement ever since she had set foot in the Cursed Wood.

As the beasts tore their way into the building, Maria let the chains go. A savage snarl tore from her lips as she met the first of the berzerking vampires head-on to grapple with it. The creatures formidable strength was met in turn with an iron strength from the woman. The bones in the beasts forearms would be caught in a vice grip known to crush bone, and bend steel, before she twisted to bring it smashing down through an oak table. She trusted Biohazard to have her back from the other berzerking vampires while her attention was on the one in her hands.

The Ulfhednar were born and bred for combating all manner of undead abomination, and these beasts she suspected paled in comparison to the cunning adversaries of the north. Brutish hulks made for flashy entrances, but from their reckless entrance it was a likely safe assumption that their berzerker savagery was hindering their discipline and capacity to fight smart. They seemed more akin to the feral werewolves of G'ael than Vampires.

While she wrangled with the creature she threw a look to Archaeos and Rune in turn.

"Get that out of here," she bit out with a look to the unfinished bomb. Her voice had dropped several octaves and taken on a throaty growl.

It didn't take a genius to recognize the contraption as a bomb, and she had learned her lesson with the destructive capabilities of bombs already. She didn't much care which of them acted to get the explosive components out of the room as her own focus was largely taken up elsewhere. Of course having spent so many years in solitude combating the supernatural, Maria often overlooked the fact that not everyone was as physically strong as herself and that moving such a large contraption was easier said than done.

Into Verinotte Square did the Chirons descend, a little over a dozen of the winged beasts flying in close proximity to one another. The scent of fresh vampire led them to the center of town, which seemed to be quite busy at the moment. They locked on to the over-sized bloodsuckers with their menacing eyes before quickly taking after them into a mad dash.

Unfortunately, the werebats were intercepted by the guards as they quickly moved to subdue the roided-up vampires that failed to enter the building. One of the underlings was the first to pounce, releasing a vicious snarl as it dove forward with fangs and claws bared. The other members of the pack followed suit, attempting to sink whatever weapons they had into the nearest occupant of the square. No one was spared from the beasts' onslaught.

Formalities, it seemed, were for another time. A barrage of bright dancing flames poured from Achaeos' lantern as he nimbly slipped inside the building, rushing in blasts of white towards the berserking vampires. So hot was the fire that it could turn a man to ashes in but a few moments, and the flames swarmed the large beings' forms like insects, aimed to cling and bite at their flesh to swiftly cover them and reduce them to nothingness. Burned away.

Achaeos himself slipped through the room towards where the werewolf had directed him, eyeing the bomb cautiously, as well as the two people working on it and the woman observing. "Cease," the kitsune commanded, waving a hand in the direction of the man and woman. His powers worked on their minds, attempting to wrest control of them from the woman seated nearby. He disdained taking the wits of a mortal from them, but at times such as this, it was necessary. "Leave this place," he attempted to instruct them, "Find safety and shelter."

The kitsune then turned on Dorotea herself, "For your crimes here, you will face justice. There is no redemption for your actions in this realm. I hope you can find it in the next."

At his words, once more flame seared from his lantern towards her, a large gout fully capable of engulfing the seat and reducing it - and her - to ash.

The ground began to tremble and the air began to thicken with the distinct smell of something being off. This continued for several long moments before the skies above Verinotte Square began to bend and warp, a flash of white light skimming across the skies followed by a deafening crack, and then a rush of air before the looming form of a distinctly colored Reverence I PAC. Unlike the foreboding violet colored military vessels, this one was a white, trimmed with blue, and it bore the seal of the President of the Aschen Confederation.

The nameplate read 'Aschen One' And it seemed to bristle with the latest in Aschen military technology.

The ship remained in the skies for several long moments, it's engines reverberating in a low deafening rumble, causing windows and alike to rattle. After these moments passed, a brilliant column of violet light seared down into the square itself, besides the statue.

This column of light remained. Perhaps something will come of it.
