Apoptosis (Null)

0 · 162 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by abedlamsun

Description

Apoptosis walks, for convenience's sake, in a mismatched collaboration of different pieces of attire. He wears a pair of faded grey trousers, an old, long-sleeved shirt with several holes in it, and two different shoes. One of these shoes is a size larger than it needs to be, and the other barely fits on his foot. His head is shaved bald, and his eyes are normally wide open, but without a definable point of focus; they are a dull grey. Other than that, his appearance is largely heterogeneous, with no easily discernible nationality. He appears to be in his early twenties.

Personality

Apoptosis, as people go, has very little of an actual 'personality.' The man acts as if he has no comprehension of 'normal' behavior, and simply acts as he feels he should. Very often, he is quite passive and distant, difficult to approach, and even seems to have a bit of a misanthropic streak in him. His actions, seen outside of a normal context, make perfect sense as they relate to him; seen inside a normal context, they are very odd indeed. He is quiet-voiced, and regards everyone, even himself, in much the same manner.

Equipment

Apoptosis holds only what looks like a magic-eight ball without the eight, or the answer hole; in short, much like a black sphere with a single opening. Light, outside force, and even force applied from the man himself do not seem to act on it. Beyond this, he has nothing beyond his abilities.

Abilities
-Apoptosis is able to, at any point, cancel out the forces acting upon an object or force directed toward him.
-Apoptosis cannot act upon more than one object or force directed toward him at once, without taking a substantial 'recoil' from the first force.
-If Apoptosis is made to question his view of the world (that is, that nothing is significant, and all things are simply here and then not here), or is threatened directly, his null abilities become unpredictable and wild.
-With intimate bodily contact, Apoptosis' abilities are transfered, for a period of time, to the individual in contact with him. A hug causes a sudden rush from him to the hugger, a kiss gives a short transfer of his abilities, while more intimate acts steadily increase the duration of transfer.

History

Apoptosis has no history or future, in his opinion; there simply the now and the possibilities within it. He only knows that his given name relates to his abilities, and how they cancel or snuff out different forces.

So begins...

Apoptosis (Null) practically ran into the door before he stopped. With a slow movement, the young man opened the aperture, gazing forward at nothing in particular. In the hand not wrapped around the doorknob was a black sphere, with a single opening pointed toward the floor. He stepped slowly, one shoe flopping as he did, and a corner of his mouth hung open. "Weird place," he said, breathing softly, his head turning just for a second to regard DanieltheFast and then back to the far edge of the bar. "Weird place."

Apoptosis (Null) blinked, turning back to face the door, his head cocking a little as his mouth hung open a bit more. He still stood in the middle of the bar, blinking every so often, at the sounds outside of the establishment. "Even weirder."

Apoptosis (Null) turned his head barely, catching Windx passing by him like, well, what else? wind. "Weird place, weird people," he said again, staring aimlessly at her and the bar counter. Why did people even come to these places? Pondering this, the young man walked up to the stool next to Windx and asked, still looking forward, "Why do people come here?"

Apoptosis (Null) blinked, still staring forward at the various liquors and such behind the counter. They were placed so randomly. It wouldn't matter if they were placed orderly, there was still poison on display there, to the man. "Why are they hitting people?" He had clued in on only one of the idioms that made no sense to him.

Apoptosis (Null) tilted his head, still not comprehending it. "But why are people hitting other people with something they keep in their pants? They have fists, don't they? They could just hit people with their fists, and not have to go through the trouble of hitting each other with something they keep in their pants. Also, why can't they keep it in their pants? It seems idiotic; if it fits there, then they can simply keep it there until it doesn't, right?"

Apoptosis (Null) tilted his head to the other side, still staring at the various bottles full of poison on the far side of the counter. "I'd rather you didn't." He tapped on the counter for a moment, and then turned his unfocused gaze to her. "Wait a moment, if they don't have lives, then how are they desiring each other? Dead people can't desire each other sexually."

Apoptosis (Null) nodded slowly, his lower lip still hanging open a bit. "That's good, I wasn't interested in you anyway." The man put his elbow on the counter, his palm against his cheek as he continued to regard her. "You seem a little upset, I think." He wasn't sure.

Apoptosis (Null) tilted his head once more, almost parallel to his shoulder as he looked down at her fingers. "Perhaps it doesn't matter, and you're getting absorbed into things which are utterly insignificant." He continued staring blankly down at the counter, "All these hormones are just chemicals firing and responding to signals."

Apoptosis (Null) blinked, still staring unfocused at her hand. "What do you need to do for me? I'm simply being honest. It's truth, nothing more."

Apoptosis (Null) looked up at her, his head tilting back to a correct, perpendicular angle to his shoulders. "I'm a person, like you." He stared blankly at Windx, "Why do you keep your mouth open like that? There are thousands of microbes flying in the air."

Apoptosis (Null) blinked, "There's a difference. I did it for a minute, while I was thinking. My muc--" The young man was cut off as the building shook, several bottles of poison shattering on the ground behind the bar counter. "Odd, is there an earthquake going on?"

Apoptosis (Null) simply stared up at Windx, blinking for a moment before raising his orbed hand. "You're floating, is that alright with you?" The orb shifted slightly, and then went back to its nonreactive surface.

Apoptosis (Null) honestly did not know, and therefore continued to stare blankly at the woman. The bar continued to register sounds outside of the battle on the main street of the city, but there wasn't any immediate danger the young man could see. "Why are you floating?" he asked simply.

Apoptosis (Null) shrugged, imitating the motion he had seen when people did not know the answer to something. It was off, though; he held his shoulders too tight and for too long before replying, "I'm not sure. It's just been in my hand. I can't throw it, it just pops to where I'm going to move my hand."

Apoptosis (Null) cocked his head to the side again, putting his arm down to his hip. The orb appeared, briefly, along a long arc between his original position and next to his hip, before it came to rest there. "They called me Apoptosis...I'm not sure why, I haven't killed anyone, I don't believe."

Apoptosis (Null) shrugged again, the action still off and very forced. "I do not know, really. Perhaps I did? There are times where I do not know what I do, only that the action is ultimately inconsequential."

Apoptosis (Null) continued to stare blankly at her. The blatant disregard of physical limitation was starting to unnerve him a bit, and he raised the orb's arm slowly. "I'm always within the zone that I occupy." The orb shifted a moment, and the young man hoped the woman's control over wind would be momentarily negated, if only to ease his disconcertment.

Apoptosis (Null) followed Windx collapse, still staring blankly at her. "I simply stopped your motion; a body does not merely float without some motion acting upon it, so I merely removed it."

Apoptosis (Null) tilted his head a little bit, leaning onto the counter as he turned back to look at the lesser quantity of bottles on the shelves behind it. "I didn't take them, I just negated whatever motion was be affected by them for a long enough period that you would cease to be in motion. It's simply."

Apoptosis (Null) continued to stare blankly forward, the bottles of poison still curious in their placement, even after a significant portion of them had fallen. "It's unnerving. People aren't meant to fly. It's just a way to get around the inevitability of gravity." He pointed his hand back at Windx, the orb again shifting along itself briefly, hopefully causing her to fall once more.
