Arceius Myradin

The Auroral Knight

0 · 611 views · located in The Butcher's Teeth

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Arceius

Description

Equipment

Arceius wears a special armor created for him by the order who trained him. When it's innate magic is activated it causes the peculiar Aurora like effect that earned him his title upon graduation. Not particularly strong, the armor is made of lightly tempered steel and it's true purpose is to augment, direct, and focus Arceius' various supernatural abilities.

The sword he wears on his back, Sky's Tear, was made for him by the insane Void Kissed warrior that brought Myradin into the struggle initially. It is pure carbon, bound by magic to make it stronger and denser than any normal sword, but is otherwise unremarkable. It has a large amount of sentimental value but bears no sign of use due to it's magical protections.

Arceius casts a form of magic that he brought with him from his old universe, Suune's Magic. Instead of forming his casting into specific pathways to produce more structured results, Arceius merely gathers energy from the Aether (an energy field that infuses space-time in Places that have been opened to magic) and flings it at people. While unsophisticated, this ability can be extremely versatile to those with sufficient ingenuity - though it is very limited in scope.

It is important to note that Arceius' magic barely effective against any being that has an aura and that his own aura protects him similarly. This is called Suune's Blessing and only alters the effects of Suune's magic. If the subject is sapient, sentient, or an object incredible importance (personal, cultural, or symbolic) it has an aura. Even seemingly overwhelming attacks against anything with an aura will product little to no result as long as the source of this damage came from Suune's Magic. It's incredibly inefficient and nearly impossible to kill or maim someone using this form of magic, and there is no way to go around it. Exceptions to this general rule include people incredibly adept at Suune's Magic (who are still bound by Suune's magic in their treatment of others) though you'd be hard pressed to harm them in any case, and people who have willingly opened themselves to the magic being used (however this only allows you to use what magic they expect you to use on them, if they open themselves up to allow you to heal them you cannot harm them with the magic instead: Suune's Blessing will still intervene).

Arceius' Basic Rotation Magic works as follows:

  • Energy gathered from the Aether comes at a cost of Spirit (vital essence surrounding the soul, can be thought of as 'mana' for simplicity sake).
  • Energy introduced into the Physical world must obey the Laws of Physics.
  • Aether energy that is made into Physical energy (at the cost of spirit) is set into motion as one or more basics types of energy present in the physical universe (heat, light, momentum, exotic energies specific to the universe, etc).
  • This energy can then be controlled initially, but once concentration is released acts according to the laws of physics alone.
  • This energy can be enchanted to follow a simple pattern until it can no longer do so, at which point it acts according to the laws of physics alone.

History

Once a powerful warrior Arceius used his power to drive away a world destroying entity. While he tried putting his past of violence and bloodshed behind him Myradin tried to move on, but the call of his own brand of justice always draws him back. Arceius feels the the past is best left where it is, hoping for a new start in the new places he finds himself but he has three important remnants left over from his life in Shämuhl. The magic he uses, Suune's Magic; the imprisoned Zultheriel, Shadow of Tsevaresh locked away in his Mind; and the dangerous demonic infection known as Thessily, held in check for so long by powers from The Old World in Shämuhl.

So begins...

Arceius Myradin stumbled into Gambits the picture of confusion. The first noticeable thing about the room was the sheer amount of insanity. People were everywhere engaged in all sorts of activities. Immediately Arceius noticed the fight, and nearly leapt to intervene but held himself back.
'It is not you're fight' He reminded himself. 'If it is not meant to be then there will be intervention, though it is surprising there is not a disciplinary force stationed in the bar to prevent such conduct.' As he thought about the nature of the strange bar he moved out of the way of the door and swept his eyes around the room. A quick scan of the patrons revealed a relatively normal man, sitting alone at a table. Arceius started out across the chaos towards the beacon of normalcy.

Arceius Myradin felt quite out of place, as though he was not welcome. Perhaps it was an effect of the bar itself though more likely it was due to the bustle of other worldliness in the area. Never had Arceius seen such a display of varied oddities from across the infinite cosmos in the same place. He knew the true reason for his discomfort though and thought to himself ruefully as he neared the normal strangers table. 'It would be nice if there was some warning before hurled across the universe to a strange place. At least enough to change from my pajamas.' Indeed Arceius, in clear contrast to those around him, was garbed only in red and white weave pajamas flapping anti-climatically around him. He stepped up to the strangers table, "Why hello sir. I'm pretty new around here. I was wondering if you could tell me what this place is?"

Arceius Myradin was quite relieved to find the stranger so agreeable. He considered for a moment, what it would be like to hide from the man his own magical abilities. He decided against it though and sat down beside Morbin. "Ah, well I would say they'd have more than a little bit of trouble "nicking" me! I'm a bit more than many bargain for," Arceius glanced down as his garb, "Even as disarming as I may seam. I'm glad to find someone who is willing to talk. Do you know exactly what this place is?"

Arceius Myradin chuckled. "Well, I started off as a normal man as well. I, much like you it seems, was ripped from my world and thrust into a place I didn't understand. There were a lot of us back then. I'm still in touch with the few that are left. Guardians or some such we're supposed to be but... We don't ever guard anything. Mostly just warp around to odd places to see equally odd people. I do have to say though that I've never seen a display such as this. Back the to point at hand; you are quite right in suspecting me of magical abilities. I've become quite adept, though I prefer to proceed as mundanely as I possibly can. Er.. that's part of the reason I'm in these Pajamas, I was supposed to be on vacation. Speaking of mundane vacations, or it seems in your case the opposite, what exactly are you doing here if you seem to dislike magic so much?"

Arceius Myradin shifted uncomfortable at the man's mention of killing non-humans. He had spent a good deal of time on the reviving end of a weapon bent towards just that purpose. He would have to watch his words carefully as not to give himself up. He would not like to lose this mans camaraderie over his less than human past. He realized that his manners had completely left him, yet another symptom of the strange bar, and had yet to introduce himself. Arceius turned to Morbin "I'm sorry but I seem to have forgotten myself. My name is Arceius Myradin."

Arceius Myradin smiled, shaking the mans proffered hand. "The pleasure is mine." He said before turning to the waitress Alexandria. "I will have just a simple wat-" There was a loud crash from somewhere in the bar that caused Arceius to pause. "Actually, you know what? Surprise me. Bring me whatever you like and I'll drink it, as long as whatever it is is very strong."

Arceius Myradin took a sip of his drink, and it was very strong, and then turned back to Morbin. "You say that there are evil spirits and monsters abroad in your homeland?" Arceius considered for a moment. "Perhaps your government would appreciate my help in... dealing with them?" Arceius did not want to go in magic blazing and kill possibly innocent people, as inhuman as they might be. He would, however, love a chance to examine the situation further with the free reign granted from a government, or other organization. A lot could get done with a small amount of information. "I understand they might be leery about my magical nature but would it be possible to convince them of my good intentions?"

Arceius Myradin frowned. He did not approve of prejudice, especially prejudice that ended lives. He did not know what sort of power the people of Morbin's world to be able to destroy magic wielding entities so efficiently. Arceius would say no more of it though. He sat for a while in silence examining the bar activity, then he turned back to Morbin. "So, what exactly do you doe here, beyond drink yourself under the table, and how do you get home?"

Arceius Myradin swirled his drink, Alexandria had done a good job. "I'm not sure what I'm doing here but if you would setter for a tale longer than most, though not as long as some, then I would be happy to tell you." He said to Morbin.

Arceius Myradin smiled mysteriously, an effect that was somewhat offput by his pajamas he was sure, and drained the last half of his drink. "Oh I could fix those, if I acted fast enough. I don't feel right letting that poor thing suffer like that, but I'm sure it would not be appreciated if I were to intervene." Arceius sighed. "I supposed I should continue my tale, right after I find that charming waitress for a re-fill." He said, raiding his voice to summon the serving girl.

Arceius Myradin frowned, setting his empty glass to the side. "Not all should be condemned for the position they find themselves in. The girls condition is something that should be controlled or cured, not something that should warrant destruction. Do you strike down the leper for his disease? No! You give him medicine so that he may be better. You would do well to rid yourself of such narrow thinking my friend. It cannot serve you to any good end. Especially in a place like this."

Arceius Myradin gave a barking laugh. "Pacafist? Ha! I wish. Then, I wish a lot of things. While such things may be necessary on your world they may not be so on others. I can understand what you're going though, and I apologize for being so abrasive without thought for your situation. I've companions with much the same attitude, only much more power. I'm afraid I've become a bit jaded with the entire business. I mean that you must think of other ways to deal with problems, when the means present themselves to you. And the means surely are present, I myself being one of those means." He was afraid to suggest tutoring in magic. Many beings could learn it, there were few who could not in at least some small way. If he was in able then it was just time wasted and hopes smashed and even if he could then Arceius was not entirely sure that the man would accept the gift.

Arceius Myradin nodded. "I suppose." Around him Arceius could feel the tugs of magical energy preceding a transportation. He needed to act quickly. "Listen to me Morbin. I understand that you have no real reason to trust me, and that you have no reason to accept my offer, but I may be able to teach you some magic. Just enough to defend yourself. I really would like to somehow help your people, and before you say no I would like you to think about it. Really think about it. You could go far with a bit of magic." Arceius felt the strings of magic tightening around himself, it was time. "For now though I must for my friend. May you clear all obstacles from your path." White shining light wrapped around his body at his last words and with a twist of energy, Arceius Myradin disappeared.

Arceius Myradin appears in a swirling vortex of white light. He peered around the room examining the bar activity. Wearily he started off towards the bar front, making sure to steer clear of the other patrons. He had a distrust of their motivesand abilities. Presently he spotted the back of his newly made friend Morbin. Advancing his stride he closed the distance between himself and the other man. 'It's good to see we arrived at the same time, though it seems he's made a new friend.' Arceius thought to himself. However, when he got closer Arceius noticed something off. The mans eye had changed color and one of them had been replaced with a optical mechanism. Aceius drew back, surprised. "Morbin!" He exclaimed. "What happened to you?"

Arceius Myradin frowned. "The Chaeos gods? That's pretty darn close to magic. Didn't you have a problem with that sort of thing? What sort of pact did you make?" Arceius stopped himself and took a breath. "Sorry, it just seems like a big deal. You OK otherwise?"

Arceius Myradin glanced over at the small child bent low over the corpse. "I would say that it's best not to interfere with others in this bar. I have a suspicion that this place is only half real. I doubt death is very permanent except, maybe, to the original residents. What sort of pact did you make?" He asked Morbin.
