A female shapeshifter, although she is usually limited to those she knows well (as she knows the finer details) or someone in the same room.

"Sure," Savvas muttered disbelievingly. Still, he'd know exactly who had Cetec if he went missing again. "I need to go talk to my lawyer and see if this doesn't help our side of the case at all... That'll be a fun conversation. 'Hi, the guy I married hurt my nephew, his son, whilst his half-brother and my little sister were threatened with further injury. What next?' Goddess..."

"You can't blame the Goddess for this mess," Assa pointed out helpfully as she meandered back to the stairs after pressing a kiss to the top of Cetec's head. "I believe you, Killian. If you need me, wake me up. Or if Cetec needs me. Either or."

That said, the female shapeshifter headed back upstairs, leaving her brother and the man currently taking charge of her son alone.

Savvas frowned.

Savvas considered Killian for a long moment, leaning back against the wall and waiting patiently for thoughts to arrange themselves in something like a rational order. "You might have to tell the police something," he allowed eventually. "Your side of how it happened. Might want to tell them that you're now 'involved' with the family in case Caleb's lawyer decides to try bringing that up against us - you know, the whole 'oh, they'll let anyone into the child's life, technically they caused distress to the child by leaving him in Caleb's care' deal? I figure that, if the police know you're allowed in Cet's life 'cause you're actually a half-decent human being rather than the first guy to knock on the door, at least they can say you're a decent person."

The male shapeshifter stopped his rambling to listen to his nephew babble. "He really likes you," he offered, tone somewhat reconciliatory. "I guess I could grab something - she likes dark chocolate, y'know? That bitter rubbish. I'll get something on the way back for you."

Savvas shook his head and scrubbed a hand down his face tiredly. "I can't believe this. I don't really like you that much, you know that, even though you're doing way more for Cetec than Caleb ever did... I'm just trying to keep this bloody family safe, right? And it's difficult, because apparently everyone is out to take advantage of Assa and screw the consequences!"

"I don't want to be right," Savvas said, rather shocking himself with the announcement. "Because I meant what I said before. Assa'd be more than happy to let you be that kid's father, to take you into her little family and just give Cetec everything she possibly could. I don't want to believe that you'd be willing to take advantage of that for the sake of a cheap thrill or at your half-brother's will, but it's a possibility I have to take account for, because Assa won't. So... just make sure you don't hurt either of them. Just... you know. Don't screw up, and I won't stop you from seeing Cet. He deserves someone who cares in Caleb's stead. At the end of the day, it isn't about either Assa or I. It's all Cetec."

Savvas didn't really have much to say to that. He could agree - Caleb would be much more tolerable six feet underground, after all - or he could argue about Killian's anger issue regarding children and his half-brother... but at the end of the day, he had to leave to catch his lawyer before he locked up office and refused to see him, so leave was what he did.

Between that (long) meeting, driving around to search for the right kind of chocolate and a bouquet of somewhat fancy white roses (yeah, those took forever to find), Savvas took quite a while to return. When he did, however, he called out for Killian. And then for Cetec.

Silence.

"Assa?" Don't panic. "Assa! Cet! Oh God - where's the phone, where's the phone..." The bouquet was dumped on the side table at the door and the chocolates abandoned on the bottom step. "Police, police... Assa!"

Footsteps pattered lightly upstairs, and one fear was eased - but that left one more.

"'Vassy?"

"Where is Cetec?"

"He's with Killian?"

"Where is Killian?" Savvas' voice had risen in pitch and volume considerably since he arrived at Assa's home. "Where is he? Did you hear him leave?"

"I didn't hear anything, Savvas, I've been dead asleep. Have you even checked the rest of the house?" The white woman asked, tying her dressing gown tightly around her waist as she went through to the living room. Savvas, meanwhile, had taken the stairs, two at a time, to investigate the other rooms.

Assa found the pair on the sofa and smiled. She idly pushed a lock of hair gently behind Cetec's ear as the child slept, and then went through to the kitchen. "Do you want coffee, Savvas?"

"Coffee?!" The voice sounded incredulous even a floor away. "Your child is missing, why aren't you panicking?"

"Savvas thinks you've stolen Cetec," Assa explained, placing three mugs on the counter and flicking the switch on the kettle. "Coffee or tea?" she offered. "I think he'll check up there for a bit longer, then he'll come through here to see why I'm not freaking out."

"He's not up here!"

"See what I mean? He immediately assumed the worst. Did he say he had a date? There were flowers on the hall table. Hiya, Cetec," the woman cooed, leaning down to place a kiss on her child's forehead. "How's my little sleepy guy, huh? Did you have a good nap?"

"Dad."

"Yeah, Dad." Assa winked at Killian. "Killian was a bed today, wasn't he?"

"Bah!"

"Savvas doesn't like anybody. You have to give him at least a few months before he'll think about it. I think he's afraid you're gonna skin him. Dad used to tell stories," she smiled, rolling her eyes as Savvas thundered downstairs. "And he may as well call you 'Dad'. It's not like anyone else is here to be called 'Dad'. Caleb isn't stepping up," she stated as she spooned coffee and sugar into cups, adding a teabag to the third before she poured water into each.

"Assa, I can't --" Savvas brought himself to a complete stop upon sighting Killian and Cetec standing beside his sister. "Where have you been?"

"Well," Assa started calmly, "they were sleeping on the sofa. And then Killian brought Cetec through here to see his Mummy, didn't you, Killian?"

"Sofa?"

"Uh-huh." Milk went into the tea and coffee next. "You want a cuddle, 'Tec, darling? Come and get a cuddle from Mummy, c'mere..."

"C'mon, darling. Mummy'll go get your toy, huh? Will we show Killian and Uncle Sav your new toy?" Cetec clung avidly to his mother, eyes bright now that he had awoken from his impromptu nap. The pair wandered slowly out of the room, giving Assa just enough time to throw a look at Savvas.

"I, uh... got the roses. And the chocolate. It's through in the hall. I think I dropped it." That was an understatement; he'd all but thrown the box on the floor. "So, you know. If you want to go get it whilst she's upstairs or something, I don't know."

He claimed his coffee and stood back, grimacing as he realised he was still wearing his coat - in his rush to find Cetec, he'd forgotten to take it off at the door. "Listen... About this whole thing. It's Assa's decision. I don't want you here. I don't want anyone here. I can't help but think that it's just going to be a replay of Caleb, but it's not my place. Goddess only knows that Assa is old enough to make her own decisions by now..."

"That isn't fair to Cetec or Assa. I'm not here all the time - usually I'm barely ever here, though I try to make time for them both. I've only just got a promotion last month; the only reason I'm getting so much time off work is because my boss knows my sister." Savvas paused to let that settle in the air. He was just as out of depth here as Killian was, really.

"I can't say I'll like you. I can't say I'll ever trust you. But you've given me no reason not to. So, I'm going to say this, even though it feels like the Goddess is crushing my heart right now, and I'm going to say this just the once. Make him happy. Don't let him down, don't screw him around, don't make a fool out of my little sister, and I'll be civil. You can't build a family on visitation. This isn't Jeremy Kyle."

As if to contrast Caleb's life, well... Assa's had been going from strength to strength. Not only had she been able to ditch the whole 'I work as the most versatile model to ever exist' gyp, but she'd finally got a job doing what she liked doing - and that was working with computers in a large, officious company that handled IT support for dozens of other companies in the city.

And, to top it all off, she had her own little family. Speaking of family...

"Cetec, that's Mummy's hat," the white-faced Nattian laughed, plucking the wide-brimmed summer hat from her son's head and grabbing fingers. "You've got your own hat in your box, don't you, hunny?"

"I go hat?" Cetec offered, toddling off to the box that sat neatly in the corner and held all of his toys.

"Sounds good, sweet --"

"Door!" Cetec crowed, clapping small little hands together with excitement.

"Sure is! Maybe that's Uncle Sav, huh?" the Shapeshifter suggested, standing up from the playmat in the living room to head through to the hall. "Stay there, Cet!"

Assa's expression was not pleasant when she opened to door to find Caleb there instead.

"... No. Go away."

The woman squawked as Caleb simply wandered in, anger already beginning to simmer deep in her stomach. This pathetic excuse for a man would not leave them be?

"Caleb!" Assa screeched as she followed, moving to pick up her son just as the tears started. "You ignorant son-of-a --" The Nattian paused, taking a deep breath and raising a hand to gently wipe away the tears trailing down her son's face as he complained of a sore knee. "Get out of my house," she finally demanded sotto voce, "before I have to get Savvas, Killian, or the police."

He was spouting nonsense. Nothing he said made any sense at all - kittens, indeed! What was it to her, what he'd been doing with his life? Cetec was the only thing that linked the pair now, and as far as she was concerned, Cetec was never Caleb's son. The child clutched at his mother's shirt, head buried against her neck as he stared tearfully at this strange new intruder.

"I'm not asking you again, Caleb."

Assa heaved a sigh, breathing out all of the anger that was slowly building up as she covered the one ear Cetec wasn't pressing against her collarbone. "Caleb. Listen to me very, very carefully. I understand that you are an idiot, but you need to rub your few braincells together and comprehend what it is that I'm about to say.

"No, I can't change into a cat, Caleb. I change how I look, not what I am. I'm not getting rid of your imaginary catfish. You will stop swearing if you want me to help you at all and you will stop scaring my son!"

Cetec, deaf to all but his mother's heartbeat, stared blithely at Caleb. "Mummy?"

"He is not your son!" Assa insisted, cradling the child ever closer. "And we haven't seen you for months. We were thanking the Goddess for such a gift!"

Cetec, irritated at having been disrupted from playtime and the tension he could feel growing in the room, gestured hopefully at Killian. "Dad!"

"He hasn't done anything but storm in here, spouting his nonsense... He knocked over Cetec, but I don't think he's hurt. Just got a little shock, didn't you, little sweetheart? He keeps talking about drowning kittens and fish, Kill'... He stinks of booze and looks like he hasn't showered," Assa stated, moving to stand next to the other man. "I think he's lost it completely!"

"Killian, if Savvas turns up and he's here..." The woman trailed off uncertainly as she bounced the child on her hip in order to soothe him. "He isn't making any sense. He came in asking if I could change into a cat or a fish, or a catfish, or something. Then he started talking about how someone had given him kittens and he tried to..." She paused, momentarily covering Cetec's ears just to shield him from the end of the her sentence. "He tried to drown one."

The child blinked at the lack of sound once again, but soon returned to grinning happily at Killian. As far as he was concerned, his Dad was home and he had nothing else to worry about! "Da, Da, Da."

Linus Trucidabunt hopped casually off of the train when it pulled into the far busier station just outside of Wing City' Eastern Gates.

He signalled for Carmen to stay close, ignoring the sound of the city beyond the great gate as he prepared the ultimate beeline escape.
