Description

Special Agent Austin Marshall

ImageImageImage

Age: 27
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 170 lbs

Determined, dangerous and youthful, Austin is an agent of the Terran Intelligence Bureau. Responsible for investigating threats to Terran security, Austin is considerably well trained and experienced for his relatively young age. Optimistic and humorous on and off the field, Austin can always find something to smile (or smirk) about. Although terribly brave and straightforward, his steadfast courage often turns into blatant recklessness in the face of certain danger or desperation. In more passive situations, Austin is a steady, fluent speaker, if not downright flirtatious in certain circumstances.

A devout supporter of Terran sovereignty, Austin is a devoted agent, unwavering in his dedication to the TIB; believing that all its operations benefit the Terran people.

Austin suffers from a rare neurological disease: citofacin (cito - quick, facina - action), caused by a malfunction in the dopamine neurotransmitter. As a catecholamine neurotransmitter, dopamine is crucial to the functionality of the central nervous system, acting as a bridge connected mental thought and physical action. Citofacin accelerates the flow of dopamine far beyond normal human capacities, likewise resulting in accelerated movement and a faster thought-response relationship. For persons suffering from citofacin, thought and action are one. Years of therapy have allowed Austin to train his "disease", focusing himself to prevent EVERY thought from being completed as action, consciously choosing what he will or will not do. His condition also gives him a considerable edge on the field. Without any lag time between brain and trigger finger, Austin is an extremely capable fighter and gunman, his kinetic speed almost inhuman. Nonetheless, Austin still struggles to maintain complete control of his disease, failing frequently. He needs to be careful, after all. A single stray thought could merit severe consequences.

Austin has trained himself all his life. From age six, he studied the Israeli self-defense form of Krav Maga, building practical hand-to-hand combat skills. Trained with various guns and explosives, Austin prefers a weapon he can "get a finger on quickly", such as a holstered handgun or pocketed knife. Austin is also an educated student; fully understanding that sometimes a man's greatest weapon is his intelligence and wits.

So begins...

Austin Marshall entered Gambit's Bar, a subtle smile flitting over his jaw as he stepped foot into one of his favorite places in Wing City. He wore a loose fitting v neck with the sleeves rolled at the forearms, and a pair of denim blue jeans. He walked up to the nearest holomenu, punching in an order for a glass of beer.

Leaning against the corner passively as he waited for his drink, he noticed Cashmere; sitting alone at her table enjoying her Ambrosia. It wasn't uncommon to see pretty girls at Gambit's...but why did this one stand out to Austin?

"Ambrosia, huh?" he called out to the girl, a youthful grin on his face, "I thought only Aschens liked the stuff."

Drulovic's doorbell would suddenly go off as Austin Marshall stepped up to her house. Dressed in a gray suit and black tie, his hands were tucked calmly in his pockets, his eyes flickering about cautiously.

He had been quite suprised when the Director had arranged their little meeting in her own home. The young TIB agent would have thought that the recent attempt on the Drulovic's life might have prompted her to seek safer, more secure quarters. But who was he to talk? The Director knew what she was doing. A woman like HER doesn't get to a position like THAT without knowing a thing or two. Taking a sharp breath, Austin pondered what the Director might want with him...

"Director," Austin adressed his superior as he stepped into her house, his eyes quickly roaming over the new environment. In twenty seconds, he had determined the most probable exit points based off the building's estimated size, the safest route of escape in the event of an attack, and a wide myriad of tools lying about that could be used as weapons against hostiles. There was a box-opener lying about to his right...several cultural trinkets with pointed edges were in sight...

Austin wiped and removed his shoes, placing them on the rubber mat. He looked up as Drulovic's husband came into view, offering him a disarming smile. "Sir," he nodded towards the man. The agent was quite amused after being in the Director's home for all of two minutes. There was no high-tech laboratory she was taking him down to. No muscled bodyguards at the front door. The director was going to debrief him on a mission in her half-furnished living room. Austin grinned, thumbing along his jaw thoughtfully. Drulovic was one of a kind.

"Thank you, Director. Tea would be wonderful," he said coolly, taking a seat on the intended couch. Beef gyros? What on earth were those? His inquiries on the food were quickly dismissed however, as Austin's attention was immediately captured by the Christ icon hung over her gas fireplace. He examined it thoughtfully, wringing one of his hands in careful reflection. His attention then turned to the piano, the grandfather clock, the frame photographs... If the agent didn't know better, he might have guessed that the house belonged to a retired 'mom-and-pop' couple who made chocolate chip cookies for the neighbor kids on the weekends.

But Austin knew better.

"Still moving in?" Austin called out to Drulovic as the the Director perhaps went off to fetch the tea in the kitchen. Her house certainly had a personality, half-decorated or no.

Austin Marshall watched the Director re-enter the living room with the refreshments, receiving the cups and saucers with a quiet "thank you". He had, of course, overhead Drulovic's goodbye to her husband as he went to his dayjob. Anywhere else it would have meant nothing. A loving wife wishing her husband off to work...it was so very typical and normal, no? A cute moment from the movies that never failed to warm the hearts of traditional American families. But in this particular instance, it meant so much more.

It meant that Drulovic was human.

"I'm sure it's hardly junk, Director," Austin snapped back to the conversation at hand, bringing the tea up to his lips with steady hands. He took a quiet sip, getting a feel for the foreign taste. Deciding that it was remarkably refreshing, he took another short sip before setting it down on the table.

"Forgive my bluntness, Director..." Austin began, getting to the heart of the matter, "but why am I here?" Tea and small-talk was nice when it was called for, but Drulovic was his boss. Not his friend. If the Director needed something of an Agent, she had only to ask.

Austin Marshall returned Drulovic's gaze with careful attentiveness, his icy blue eyes never leaving the Director's for a moment. Austin had known Terra was under attack. What he hadn't known was how covertly Drulovic wanted the 'war' to be.

"Do we have any leads on either objective?" Austin asked, raising an eyebrow, "Any contacts, perhaps?" The assignment wasn't an easy one. Any useful information might prove to be the perfect springboard to start these missions. Already the Agent's mind was abuzz with how he might conduct his investigation.

Austin Marshall cast his eyes down for the first time in quiet contemplation. It certainly wasn't going to be an easy an mission; not by a long shot. Nonetheless, certain methods of approach were immediately clear to the young agent, his mind at work. "It appears as if I have alot of work to do, Director," Austin said at last, brought his gaze back up to her own.

Austin Marshall smiled reflectively, looking down into his tea once before downing the remains. "I won't keep you then, Director," Austin rose, making a calm start for the door, "I'll be taking you up on that offer, though. I'll need to collect more information before I start doing anything..." Austin chose his words carefully, "...serious." He turned once more to her as he collected his shoes. "Thanks for the tea," he said with a half-grin.

"Public radio these days..." Austin murmured under his breath as the broadcast ended. The severity of the war declaration was certainly foreboding. Perhaps he should look into the Taiyou affairs first. He turned to the open door, nodding once more to the Director with a youthful smile; before heading out of her house to begin his most important mission yet.

Austin Marshall received his beer tenderly, turning to Cashmere with a wide grin.

"An Aschen..." Austin repeated the words, slightly amused, "Those are some of my favorite people." He took a light sip from his drink, walking steadily over to Cashmere's table. His icy blue eyes glimmered with all the curiosity of youth, taking in Cashmere's appearance with careful awareness.

Austin Marshall raised an eyebrow, thumbing along his jaw reflectively, "I see. But whether or not you embrace your Aschen heritage, you should understand how dangerous it is...you being here. Terra's on the brink of war with the Confederation." He took another sip, eyeing the girl warily. Whether or not she could prove useful was still pending...

Austin Marshall raised an eyebrow. The young man was quite amused, "Just trying to help a lady out, miss. It's not often I see ambrosia at Gambit's, and I'd hate to see you in a Terran prison on treason charges. You're much too pretty." Austin grinned again, taking a seat opposite her, looking into her carefully.

"Do you live in the city?" he asked, taking another sip.

Austin gave Cashmere a smug look, "And you need to learn to accept compliments when they're given. You'll insult a man with such an attitude, miss." He took another sip at his beer, and nearly froze in mid-drink at the sound of the gun cocking back beneath the table.

He set his drink down calmly. "I pray to god that you're aiming at my stomach. Anything lower and I may just have some serious cause to worry," he half-whispered, grinning in the face of immediate danger.

Austin Marshall did as instructed, clearly not one to negotiate in his condition. The youthful smile remained, however, his eyes never wavering from Cashmere's.

"Cashmere..." Austin repeated the name quietly, as if sampling the sound, "Alright then, Cashmere. I confess that you being an Aschen has something to do with all this. However, you certainly make it seem as if you have little involvement with the Confederation. Correct?"

Austin glanced over at his beer longingly, "...if you'd permit me to move my hands so I could have a drink..." He smiled apologetically.

Austin Marshall grit his jaw, his knowing smile masking the building adrenaline. Clearly this woman had special "powers" if she could put a gun on him without using her hands. But if she was of Aschen origins, Austin was willing to bet that it was something technological...

"Just a few questions, really," Austin answered truthfully, "If you're so 'aware of the current geopolitical environment'..." Austin imitated her own voice as best as he could. It wasn't a good effort. "...then you should very well be aware that the TIB Headquarters were recently attacked. By Aschens. Do you know anything about that?"

Austin breathed calmly, his mind already in a calculating blur as to how he might engage the situation should things get hostile. There was a sharp fork to his right...he could break the beer bottle for a weapon...he could turn the table over before she could pull the trigger...

Still, the best alternative was to keep this at a not-so-friendly conversation. Not that Austin would enjoy fighting Cashmere, anyway. As he said before, she was much too pretty.

Austin Marshall raised a curious eyebrow, looking at Cashmere intently, "System? Ms. Cashmere...what exactly -are- you? I can't help but imagine that you're not entirely human." He took another glance over her sharp features, carefully observant for anything that might give him a clue as to what she really is.

"That's all well and good, Ms. Cashmere..." Austin's tone was steady and sly...as if he was the one with a gun beneath the table, "...but I feel as if you've neglected to answer my question. What are you? Surely a woman who can put a pistol to a man's groin while calmly drinking ambrosia with both hands, is nothing short of fantastic."

Austin passively reached out, grasping his beer for the first time in what seemed like ages, and took a quiet sip, "Wouldn't you say so, Ms. Cashmere?" He was still grinning.

Austin Marshall held the destroyed glass in his steady hands with a look of utter disappointment. His gaze returned to Cashmere's after a short while, as fearless and cautious as ever. "If you insist, miss." He rose quietly from his stool, looking down at the gun in blatant mistrust.

"While I'm sure my 'pay grade' couldn't afford to take you out to dinner..." Austin began as he rose, cunningly quoting an earlier line of hers, "...I think you might have found the Terran treasury to be a bit more to your liking. A shame we couldn't continue this conversation. It was a pleasure meeting you, Ms. Cashmere." He nodded to her once, before turning away altogether. If Cashmere didn't express interest in his obvious offer to pay her handsomely for whatever it was that Austin had in mind, then it was all over.

A stern, metronomic knocking would be heard at Suki's front door. Standing just outside in a buttoned black suit and blue tie, was Austin Marshall. He was completely announced of course, something that the young TIB agent planned to use to his advantage.

Austin waited to be answered, his foot tapping in quiet impatience...and perhaps an inkling of anticipation.

Austin Marshall had been about to respond to Ryan's debriefing, when Suki opened the door. Clearing his throat briefly, he looked up at the Taiyou, smiling brightly.

"Ms. Toyama..." he nodded, his tone friendly and disarming, "Director Drulovic wanted me to stop by. I have some alarming information regarding the recent Tetris technologies that might require you to come down to base for a few hours." He looked at her apologetically, "If you don't mind though...I'm positively parched. Do you think I could have a glass of water? I hope it's no trouble at all." He grinned youthfully.

...what Austin -really- wanted, of course, was for Suki to turn her back to him.

Austin Marshall laughed, slightly blushing, "Not at all, Ms. Toyama. We just needed you to go over a few logistical errors made by a newer agent in the building. Some problems with directing new Tetris recruits." He stepped inside cautiously, his eyes making a quick scan of the house. If there were any immediate exits, visible threats or potential make-shift weapons in sight, Austin would have taken account of them.

"Cold sake would be wonderful," he said after a brief thought. He was sooo tempted to add 'shaken, not stirred', but doubted it would make much sense. He noticed how his first plan of going about things had failed, as Suki didn't turn her back for even a second. Austin would have to improvise.

Austin Marshall took the glass with a murmured "thank you", taking a small sip. He had never had sake before.

"Of course not, Ms. Toyama. I apologize for any inconvenience..." Austin's face suddenly lit up, "Oh, wait a second! I nearly forgot. The Director wanted me to give you a note too..." Austin said, stepping forward slightly as he dug into his pocket with his free hand. He removed a folded piece of paper, offering it out to Suki with a smile.

The moment Suki grabbed the paper, Austin would throw the sake directly into her eyes, his aim precise. His speed would also be remarkably fast, the dopamine neurotransmitters in his brain working overtime on account of his citofacin disorder. For Agent Austin Marshall, thought and action were one.

If his plan worked and Suki was blinded, Austin would leap to her side in an instant, working quickly to restrain her. His right hand would only briefly graze the base of her neck, looking for the plug that would identify her as a Taiyou. Once done, Austin would struggle to subdue Suki, cuffing her hands behind her back.

Austin Marshall swore under his breath as Suki evaded his attack, his own hand coming up instinctively in defense as Suki delivered her palm. Years of Krav Maga training were put to use as Austin flicked his hand open as Suki's palm neared his face, re-directing the attack swiftly. 'Inside defense'.

The incredibly sharp tanto would certainly tear Austin's suit, but any lethal damage would quickly be caught by the light exo-skin clinging to his frame beneath his outerwear. As Suki turned to make a run, he removed a rather small pistol-looking device from his belt. A sedatative gun. He had not exactly wanted to use this...but...

Austin fired the gun quickly, the potent ammunition headed straight for the open skin just beneath the back of Suki's head.
