Description

Special Agent Austin Marshall

ImageImageImage

Age: 27
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 170 lbs

Determined, dangerous and youthful, Austin is an agent of the Terran Intelligence Bureau. Responsible for investigating threats to Terran security, Austin is considerably well trained and experienced for his relatively young age. Optimistic and humorous on and off the field, Austin can always find something to smile (or smirk) about. Although terribly brave and straightforward, his steadfast courage often turns into blatant recklessness in the face of certain danger or desperation. In more passive situations, Austin is a steady, fluent speaker, if not downright flirtatious in certain circumstances.

A devout supporter of Terran sovereignty, Austin is a devoted agent, unwavering in his dedication to the TIB; believing that all its operations benefit the Terran people.

Austin suffers from a rare neurological disease: citofacin (cito - quick, facina - action), caused by a malfunction in the dopamine neurotransmitter. As a catecholamine neurotransmitter, dopamine is crucial to the functionality of the central nervous system, acting as a bridge connected mental thought and physical action. Citofacin accelerates the flow of dopamine far beyond normal human capacities, likewise resulting in accelerated movement and a faster thought-response relationship. For persons suffering from citofacin, thought and action are one. Years of therapy have allowed Austin to train his "disease", focusing himself to prevent EVERY thought from being completed as action, consciously choosing what he will or will not do. His condition also gives him a considerable edge on the field. Without any lag time between brain and trigger finger, Austin is an extremely capable fighter and gunman, his kinetic speed almost inhuman. Nonetheless, Austin still struggles to maintain complete control of his disease, failing frequently. He needs to be careful, after all. A single stray thought could merit severe consequences.

Austin has trained himself all his life. From age six, he studied the Israeli self-defense form of Krav Maga, building practical hand-to-hand combat skills. Trained with various guns and explosives, Austin prefers a weapon he can "get a finger on quickly", such as a holstered handgun or pocketed knife. Austin is also an educated student; fully understanding that sometimes a man's greatest weapon is his intelligence and wits.

So begins...

After chopping up the broccoli, Austin quickly set to work setting the diced vegetables into the omelette. He worked rather quickly, obviously anticipating the arrival of a new assignment. Strangely, he reached several times for the soy sauce in Drulovic's fridge, each time halting his hand in mid-air and quickly drawing it back with an annoyed grunt. It was as if his hands weren't obeying his commands.

Nonetheless, breakfast would be ready relatively quickly.

Austin Marshall looked over briefly from his cooking, noticing the darkening look on Drulovic's face. Although the agent had noticed the distance in the director's personality from the moment he had arrived, it had never been more-so evident then now.

"Are you alright, director?" he asked quietly, a fork in his hands.

Austin Marshall nodded. No more questions, then. He turned his attention back to the food, seeing as it was just about done. He began searching the cupboards for a couple plates. His hand numbly shot out and groped for the fridge only once more before the agent dragged it back to his side with a scowl.

"You really ought to consider taking up an office at our 'unofficial' headquarters, director..." Austin said as he searched, "...only God knows what kind of people know that you live here."

"Everyone thinks they're secure while they're not being attacked, Director..." Austin nodded, reaching for the plates, "But if you insist." He set two plates out on the counter, looking between the omelette and the tea with a youthful smile.

"This looks delicious."

Austin Marshall helped her with the items as best he could, taking whatever else needed to be carried. "Of course, director," Austin nodded, grinning slightly, "...but I would hardly consider not having your house listed an adequate safety maneuver. There's bad-guys on Terra, after all. Bad-guys with some good connections."

Austin Marshall followed Drulovic into the dining room, napkins in hand. 'Not terribly concerned...' Austin repeated the words on his mind. Drulovic didn't seem concerned at all. Not even slightly. Didn't she realize that Terra was safest from constant threat when she WAS alive?

Austin was quite hungry by this time, however. After making sure everything was in order, he sat down at the table.

Austin Marshall watched Drulovic pray, taking note of the gentle but clear articulation of her voice. It made the agent reflect. When was the last time he had said a prayer before dinner? Seven...ten years ago? Aidan wouldn't even touch a bowl of frosted flakes in the morning without...

Austin suddenly remembered he had delicious food before him. Grabbing a fork, he begin to eat the omelette contently. He hadn't immediately recognized the language Drulovic had spoken in...and was faintly curious as to what it was.

Austin Marshall chewed thoughtfully, following his bite with a quick sip of tea. "Well the Taiyou investigation has gone fairly well, as you know..." he began, "I gave you Toyama. Alive. Not to mention the Taiyou Hyperspace Codes and a perfectly-intact Naginata Cruiser. I'd say with the recent peace, things are finally winding down on that episode."

Austin Marshall swallowed his bite with more intent. "Little progress, I'm afraid. The Taiyou have been easier because they were so relevant to Terran Security at the moment. The Aschens are a different story entirely." He took another bite, smiling suddenly. "At least...they WERE. I understand that our Tetris forces had a brief skirmish with some Taiyou Super-Soldiers." He took a sip of his tea. "I also understand that the armor worn by the troops perfectly matched the armor worn by the assasins who destroyed the TNG building so long ago."

Austin Marshall took another bite, swallowing as he reflected on what she had said. "You simply want information, then..." Austin looked up, "...a thorough investigation of the problems within both the Coalition and the Aschens?"

Austin Marshall grinned, "Of course, director." He took a contemplative sip from his tea. He had been aware of the unintentional coldness in Drulovic's smile, but didn't think much of it. As he had affirmed before, Drulovic was his superior. He shouldn't be concerned with her social going-ons...right? He did what she asked. Plain and simple.

"I'll need some good transportation..." Austin said at last, "...I imagine these places are impossible to get into this time of year."

Austin Marshall took a slow bite, chewing as Drulovic spoke about more personal issues. He asked no questions relating to the conversation when it was over, of course. None of it concerned him...or if it did; the director would let him know.

"That's no easy job, director," Austin confessed, "Aschen and Coalition tracking and scanning technologies are some of the best in the Multiverse. Even with their internal conflicts, I'd have trouble seeing how I would get in." In truth, the agent DID have one hunch as to how he might enter...but it was a long shot. He was sincerely hoping that the director might have a trick up her sleeve...

"I'd be very grateful," Austin nodded after another sip of tea, "do I also have permission to put our TIB technicians and forgers to full use?" If the agent was travelling to Scatter and Langara, he certainly wanted to appear as a man who belonged there.

Austin imagined that lack of groceries was the least of Drulovic's concerns. This whole house was depressingly empty. Personally, Austin would have gone mad staying in a place like that for too long. He could only wonder how the director managed it...

"I'd hardly say that, director..." Austin said, putting the paper into his jacket pocket. Drulovic had done more the TNG then anyone else. If her 'cloak and dagger' tactics were working, Austin would use them.

"Ha'la'tha..." Austin cleared his throat, "...wasn't there something about them in the news? We intercepted some shipments..." That, and there was a ten million credit bounty on the director's head.

Austin Marshall grinned. Drulovic had style, he'd give her that. In the black-and-white world of bland suits and grey ties that espionage had become, style was important.

"Are you at all concerned about their threats. 10 million credits can be quite convincing." Austin raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe so, Director. But Terra needs you alive right now," Austin commented, rising to help her in the clean-up however he may. Drulovic wouldn't be dying anytime soon if -this- TIB agent had anything to say about it.

"Thank you for breakfast," he said with a smile, "it was delicious."

Austin Marshall turned quickly, eyeing the LDA Director with careful intensity. "Perhaps the 'intrusion' part would have been simple, Mr. Montgomery..." Austin began, "...but you might have found the 'killing' part a bit more difficult then you bargained for." He couldn't help the youthful grin that marked his face at the mention of all his perilous misadventures. Austin was certainly as lucky as scoundrels come, no question about it.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, director," Austin mustered some professionalism, smiling and extending his hand. Austin never would have imagined that he'd be face-to-face with the Director of the LDA himself.

Austin Marshall raised an eyebrow but offered no return-fire, taking a step back so as to give Drulovic and Montgomery more direct confrontation. The LDA Director had come to speak with the TIB Director. Austin would be the agent standing on the sidelines with his arms crossed over his chest.

Austin Marshall simply eyed Montgomery as he left, clearing his throat once he was out the door. It was certainly out of an agent's place to talk back to a 'friendly' agency Director...but NOT talking back purely hurt Austin's ego.

"...isn't montgomery some kind of cheese...?" Austin commented as he walked into the next room to fetch the dry towels.

Austin returned to the room, towel in hand, and an impeccable grin on his jaw, "I swear to god...he used a 'Star Wars' line somewhere in there..." The agent set to work mopping up the water on the table. "The Emperor is not as forgiving as I AM..." Austin bellowed in his best 'Darth Vader' imitation.

Austin looked up, grinning sheepishly. "Well..." he confessed, "...I did order a modified Saleen S7 Twin Turbo on the Bureau's dollar. I also trashed it the very next day in my chase with Toyama and the Major."

The agent laughed, youth glimmering in his eyes, "...whad'ya say we call it even, then?"

"My dear director..." Austin shrugged innocently, "...only whatever was necessary to complete my mission." With another grin, he walked towards the kitchen to return the towel.

"Those hyperspace codes are worth at least that much," Austin called out, "not to mention the actual cruiser."

Austin Marshall nodded, returning from the kitchen. "Toyama was our only lead. I couldn't let an opportunity like her slip me by. I was a bit upset to learn that we couldn't glet any info from her, though. Seems as if my work was futile."

Austin Marshall smiled. "Of course, Director," he nodded, "just point me in the right direction." Austin was perfectly content helping Drulovic add some life into the pallid shell of her house.

Austin Marshall took the frame and did as he was told with passive ease, straightening the photograph once he had it in its proper place. Born and raised in Wing City, Austin didn't know a great deal about foreign culture. The young man hardly had any family pictures himself. He even wondered if he had a single frame of personal significance in his own apartment...

"Fashionably dressed..." Austin nodded after he was finished, looking at Baba Sladjana with a quirked eyebrow. He wasn't even being very sarcastic. The agent would have much preferred this sort of clothing in comparison to what most 15 year-old girls stepped out of the house in these days.
