Description

Special Agent Austin Marshall

ImageImageImage

Age: 27
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 170 lbs

Determined, dangerous and youthful, Austin is an agent of the Terran Intelligence Bureau. Responsible for investigating threats to Terran security, Austin is considerably well trained and experienced for his relatively young age. Optimistic and humorous on and off the field, Austin can always find something to smile (or smirk) about. Although terribly brave and straightforward, his steadfast courage often turns into blatant recklessness in the face of certain danger or desperation. In more passive situations, Austin is a steady, fluent speaker, if not downright flirtatious in certain circumstances.

A devout supporter of Terran sovereignty, Austin is a devoted agent, unwavering in his dedication to the TIB; believing that all its operations benefit the Terran people.

Austin suffers from a rare neurological disease: citofacin (cito - quick, facina - action), caused by a malfunction in the dopamine neurotransmitter. As a catecholamine neurotransmitter, dopamine is crucial to the functionality of the central nervous system, acting as a bridge connected mental thought and physical action. Citofacin accelerates the flow of dopamine far beyond normal human capacities, likewise resulting in accelerated movement and a faster thought-response relationship. For persons suffering from citofacin, thought and action are one. Years of therapy have allowed Austin to train his "disease", focusing himself to prevent EVERY thought from being completed as action, consciously choosing what he will or will not do. His condition also gives him a considerable edge on the field. Without any lag time between brain and trigger finger, Austin is an extremely capable fighter and gunman, his kinetic speed almost inhuman. Nonetheless, Austin still struggles to maintain complete control of his disease, failing frequently. He needs to be careful, after all. A single stray thought could merit severe consequences.

Austin has trained himself all his life. From age six, he studied the Israeli self-defense form of Krav Maga, building practical hand-to-hand combat skills. Trained with various guns and explosives, Austin prefers a weapon he can "get a finger on quickly", such as a holstered handgun or pocketed knife. Austin is also an educated student; fully understanding that sometimes a man's greatest weapon is his intelligence and wits.

So begins...

Austin Marshall did as he was instructed, looking between the two frames as he mounted the second. Austin was very tempted to ask the Director at what age she had gotten married, but refrained. Now was probably the absolute worst time for such a question.

"Was it an arranged marriage?" Austin asked, "or was it of their own personal choice?" Austin had heard that such arrangements in foreign cultures was very common.

Austin Marshall offered his hand out to recieve the photo, looking down into it curiously. He had known that Drulovic was of ethnic backround...but he had never imagined that she wasn't a native. It suddenly occured to the agent just how little he knew about his Director.

"I've never been to New York..." Austin said quietly, perhaps to himself. He turned his attention back to Drulovic. "Where did you go after Ellis Island?"

"I should think not..." Austin half-whispered, putting the frame on the hook. He felt he was asking too many personal questions of the director, but he was far too curious to stop himself now. Perhaps it was an account of her recent divorce; but Drulovic was really opening up.

"What was the first step after coming to Arkansas, then?" Austin asked, "I imagine you didn't rise from Serbian-immigrant to Terran Intelligence Director over night." He smiled.

Austin Marshall did as instructed, giving the picture another thorough look over. Despite the looming cathedral, the picture looked very human. Perhaps it was only the crinkled condition of the photograph that gave it such a feeling; or perhaps it was the fact that Drulovic didn't have any other pictures of her parents. Regardless, Austin had no doubt that this particular frame was worth its weight in gold to the Director.

"They're a lovely couple," Austin nodded, looking quite intently at Drulovic's mother.

Austin Marshall took the picture again, smiling a bit at the subtle humor of the portrait. "They certainly look like a happy bunch..." Austin grinned as he hung the picture up.

"Your childhood certainly seemed as if it was difficult, Director," Austin nodded, "but I imagine it hardened you for the better. Mine was not so grueling, but it wasn't any walking in the park either."

Austin Marshall did as instructed, hanging the picture at the top of the stairs before returning back to Drulovic's side. He smiled, looking back at the progress they had made so far.

"Lookin' better already..." Austin said with a nod, "...it's amazing what a few pictures can do to fill a house."

Austin Marshall stepped over. "Well I think what we have is pr-" The Agent stopped saying things all together when he got a decent look at the picture, his brows furrowing in perplexed contemplation. After a few moments, he finally identified the beaten woman's tattered features as Drulovic's own. It was almost impossible to tell. It was as if the woman in this picture was a completely different person all together.

"...and what's this one of?" Austin asked quietly.

Austin Marshall did as instructed, hanging the final picture before stepping back to survey his handiwork. Each frame was obviously a deep memory to Drulovic, with a novel-story behind every one of them. They brought testimony to all aspects of Drulovic's past life: her immigration, childhood, sufferings, education and family. Austin imagined that these pictures hardly even scatched the surface.

"It looks good," he said at last, nodding.

"It's fine, Director," Austin nodded, taking another quick sweep with his eyes across the house. "...and so does the house. Things are looking brighter already in here." Austin grinned, attempting to inject some optimism into the conversation.

"Of course, Director," Austin smiled, "I'm afraid we'll have to take your car, though. I took a cab here." He coughed a bit, taking two quick steps forward towards a picture he thought might have been crooked but wasn't. Backtracking, he stuffed his hands into his pockets. "Where did you have in mind?" he asked.

"Lead the way," Austin smiled, not at all suprised that arguably the most influential woman in the TNG with a ten million credit bounty on her head was going out to eat in a public restaurant. An Italian place, no less. Austin could fire off a grocery-list of Hollywood assassinations that take place in an Italian restaurant...

"I agree," Austin said as he opened the door, "especially with Ha'la'tha posing a threat. I think we ought to consider taking Mr. Montgomery's help." He stepped back as the garage was opened, his head pivoting around briefly to take a quick scan of the surrounding neighborhood. For all Austin knew, the mobsters could be on their trail at this very moment. Vigilance was an agent's greatest virtue.

Austin Marshall entered the car, slightly off-set by Drulovic's politeness. The agent felt as if HE should be the one opening doors for her. Still, he supposed that it was only in Drulovic's character that she be so hospitable, even to those working under her.

"Do we consider the LDA our enemy, then?" Austin asked as buckled his seatbelt, taking a quick glance into the backseat of the car. He hadn't checked under the hood. The agent prayed there wasn't any ignition-charge set to blow the moment the car came to life.

Austin Marshall nodded, exiting the car to close the garage door, looking back over at Drulovic frequently to assure her safety. He returned back into her car a few moments later, shutting the car door behind him.

"The Aschens could be a useful tool to further our own goals, though..." Austin said as he buckled up once more, "...if we could establish a reasonable relationship, we might find the LDA to be a remarkable asset."

Austin Marshall looked out the back window briefly with a bemused look on his face. Drulovic may be a Serbian immigrant, but she drove like a red-blooded Wing City native. It was skillful, in a way,

"Sounds like we know what we're doing then," Austin said with a grin and a nod, "...although the idea of working with LDA agents isn't exactly a pleasant thought."

Austin Marshall shrugged, thumbing along his jaw as he waved to the hordes of angry drivers in the other lane. "How would the LDA feel about my most recent mission? Y'know...illegaly entering Lanagara and scrapping every bit of information I can about their war..."

Austin Marshall cleared his throat. "Well if this Ha'la'tha diner can get me the forgeries I need, I should be set. I just need a good cover once I'm on-world, and the rest is a matter of asking the right questions." Austin was not at all uncomfortable with Drulovic's driving. As long as the director knew how to handle a vehicle...the faster the better.

"It shouldn't be too hard to get the rebel's opinions and goals for the war," Austin continued, "a little infiltration and asking-around in war zones ought to reap some results. As for the Langaran government...I'll just need some good connections. I'll make a few friends with some big-shots...attend a few parties...shouldn't be too hard."

Austin Marshall nodded, raising an eyebrow at Drulovic's seemingly expert driving skills. Yet another thing Austin hadn't known about the Director.

"I'll need a few feature modifications before the mission, maybe..." Austin said as he unbuckled his belt, exiting the car. He looked over at Drulovic with a mischevious grin. "How do you think I'd look as a blonde?"

Austin Marshall laughing, Austin walked up to the building, taking a brief look through the window before opening the door for Drulovic, nodding for her to go first. "Well I'll think of something," Austin smiled, "Montgomery knows my face, which means the LDA knows my face. I just need a good cover."

Austin Marshall stood behind Drulovic, his hands meshed together below his lap, the fingers numbly fiddling together. Austin's extensive Krav Maga training taught him to always keep his hands accessable in public places. A man with his hands in his pockets simply couldn't defend himself appropriately.

"Like I said, I'd like two separate covers," Austin said quietly, "one for dealing with the rebels, the other for the Aschens government." He smiled disarmingly up at the hostess as they made brief eye-contact.

Austin Marshall looked from left to right, scanning quickly over the two groups before sitting opposite Drulovic. "For the rebels, something simple..." Austin began, "...a journalist, maybe? I need a reason to be asking questions, after all. For the government, something more high-end. I need the clearance and the power to be talking with the big-shots. A gentleman of the Confederation."

"I'll have a water, no ice, thank you," he said with a grin. The truth of Drulovic's words were perplexing to say the least. But if Austin couldn't be a big shot, he could only hope that something a bit less-important could be managed. An intern, maybe? A trader? He waited for the waiter to be gone so he could discuss his options with Drulovic.

Austin Marshall shrugged, "Whatever works out, I suppose. Basically I need to give the rebels a reason not to shoot me on sight. And what about the government? Do you think a less-prestigous cover would be possible? An intern or something..."

"The Aschens are just so damn perfect, huh..." Austin grumbled, "...even with the war going on, we're still risking alot, eh? Well I'll meet with Ha'la'atha as well. Maybe they have connections we don't."

"That's right..." Austin said almost distantly, as if Haima was some long-forgotten name that he only just remembered. Austin, like many others working under the TNG; had discovered that Terran authority was quite divided. There was Drulovic, and there was Haima. Those on one side typically didn't have much to do with the other.

"Thankfully, Terran documents are much easier to forge," Austin said with a grin, "I should have no trouble concealing my identity from the mobsters." Austin noticed that their drinks were on the way.
