Name: James Guiscard
Alias: Baron
Age: 82
Species: Werewolf
Place of Birth: Lutetia City, Lutetia
Nationality: Lutetian
Occupation: Pack Leader of the Bloodstone pack and proprietor of The Den.
Current Residence: Lutetia City, Lutetia
Family: Ragenard Guiscard (brother), Maxwell Lessard (son)

James is the fourth generation of Guiscard to serve as Pack Leader of the Bloodstone pack. He took up the name 'Baron' two years into his new position and has held the pack for eight years now.

Under his leadership, the Bloodstone pack has flourished in numbers and nearly doubled its territory in the past four years. Unlike many of the Lutetian packs, James is known for taking in mutts - werewolves who contracted lycanthropy via bites, which has served to swell his numbers to a respectable size.

Baron strives to maintain a balance of morality and freedom in the running of the Bloodstone pack, and though he - and those of his pack - are far from upstanding, law abiding citizens, the Bloodstone pack is largely devoid of involvement into organized crime.

Baron is the proprietor of The Den, a bar in Vargeras. Unlike many werewolf establishments, Baron permits humans and other creatures to frequent the bar provided they're not causing trouble for him or his pack. Wolves from rival packs are liable to be stopped at the door though.

So begins...

"We haven't had any trouble with the Ardelean out this way in a few years," Baron continued. "They don't come down here often. They know they're not welcome. If there's been any rise of Ardelean activity in the region, I haven't heard of it. Though, things change," he added gruffly as he watched Jesse working.

"Things have changed. I see their influence and political clout grow every day in city government." Bowen knew this to be true because Ardelean and Vindex both called Lutetia City a client and at different times both worked with the LCPD. They played political chess to influence laws concerning werewolves and other supernaturals in the city. Werewolf attacks and other crimes committed by werewolves hurt his political position and his efforts to change the mobs perception concerning the city wolves.

The Society was often contracted by local law enforcement to handle the more un-savory cases; jobs deemed too dangerous for the law enforcement agents to handle. This was much the same for Vindex but the smaller organization was known throughout Lutetia for their ability to adapt and their skill in investigation over slaughter and general assistance which included: security, investigation, and legal representation over what Bowen perceived to be the military type operations often undertaken by the slayers.

"I did not however come to incite a slaughter. I came only with the warning that I have seen a change transpire over many months. It may not be the threat I percieve but it would be dangerous to ignore."

Jean-Pierre took that moment to appreciate how well his thoughts coordinated with what had just happened. At Baron's sudden entrance, the three females that had been occupying the bed all sprung up and exited in a frantic fashion that Jean thought didn't make much sense for women of their... profession. One of the males gathered his things calmly and left and the last male lazily rolled back over in bed. He smirked at this, that one was his favorite.

He then got out of bed himself, making sure to carefully remove one of the cover sheets of the bed to cover his lower half to avoid exposing himself to Baron, because he wasn't entirely sure if he had already seen what he was packing down there or not already. It was better not to risk it. He went into the bathroom, leaving the door open so he could better speak to the man that had just burst in while he put on some clothes.

"Mm. Jaaaames." he cooed, poking his head out of the door way to look at the man as he buttoned his pants. "I knew I was forgetting something. Just forgot what I had forgotten, you know?" He paused to pat at his pockets, noting that his wallet was still in there, but there was a very distinct lack of phone.

"Actually... I don't seem to have my phone on me." He raised his hands out in front of him in a mock surrender as he stepped out of the bathroom shirtless. "My bad." He grinned, lowering his hands.

"Now, what exactly was this work again? I seem to have done the same thing with my knowledge of it as I did with my phone." He raised his left hand to place on the back of his head.

"Misplaced it."

While Bowen and Baron conversed off to the side, the others where engaged in conversation of their own.

"I didn't get a look at the second one," Julienne hissed. "It was up on the rooftops. The whole thing smacked of an ambush. If they weren't working together it was one hell of a timing."

Jesse dropped the last bit of metal into the small tin. "Alright, that's all of them for you."

"About fucking time," Julienne muttered as she got up. "Come on Snow," she said as she headed upstairs. They didn't need the trail going cold. Or getting muddled up by hours of city traffic.

Carlisle took Julienne's place on the cot as Jesse began the same process on him.

Meanwhile as Julienne moved past where he and Bowen where talking, Baron fell quiet until she and Snow where upstairs before answering Bowen.

"For as long as our kind has existed, there have been threats to our existence. That hasn't changed in thousands of years, and I imagine it won't change for a thousand more," he said as he took a drag on his cigarette. "I don't ignore this perceived threat. I accept it, and we will meet it as we have all other threats. As a pack."

It was about as polite of a 'you're not one of us' as Baron could muster. Bowen's involvement in the night of Jason's death had afforded him Baron's tolerance within his territory, but the line ended there it would seem.

The mentality wasn't uncommon among the packs, and perhaps was one of their greatest adversaries in claiming a place of their own within a new and developing world. Archaic practices, territorial disputes, and paranoia of outsiders left them with an ingrained reluctance to cooperate with one another.

Snow nodded silently and followed after Julienne. Whatever their enemy was - Ardelean or not - it wouldn't evade them for long. It had already shown a marked disinterest in subtlety, and the smell was unique enough to track even through the cesspit of the Phantom Quarter.

He disappeared upstairs with a single backwards glance at Baron and Bowen. If Bowen was right, and the Ardelean were making a move to assert their authority over this part of town, they wouldn't be met with cooperation. Even more so if their opening gambit was attacking pack members in the street. But Baron was right - it was their business. Their fight, if it came down to it. They could handle it.

Bowen's expression remained unreadable. "I know that as well as anyone. Good hunting.", he would say after a nod and before he walked upstairs and exited the bar.

Of course Bowen had already been fighting Ardelean. For five years he had been fighting them and their influence but not with tooth and claw. He had been fighting them with the pen and the coin. He had been warring with them in places of government. He stepped into his car, closed the door, and started the engine. As he drove away he though of a line some famous person had said about government. 'Let the people think they govern and they will be governed.'

Baron was seated in his usual seat by the window of The Den when Jesse and Blaze made their way through the front door. Her presence in the bar turned a few eyes, but since she was accompanied by Jesse, and a female, they didn't pay her more than a cursory glance before they went back to their business. The attitude was no doubt sexist in some manner or another, but most of the males in the bar seemed far more tolerant of a pretty face than a male muscling in on their territory.

Jesse led Blaze to where Baron was seated and he stopped a few paces away with Blaze at his side.

"This is the person I called you about, Baron," Jesse said.

Baron gave her a glance over, as if trying to ascertain the truth of Blaze's story. The Bloodstone pack and the Banshee pack had no bad blood between them, but packs where always rising and falling, and making territorial grabs all throughout the city. There was nothing on the table yet that could ascertain if Blaze was genuine in her claim, or if this was simply an elaborate ruse to infilitrate the pack from within.

"Where's the rest of your pack," Baron asked.

As blaze entered the den, she was very weary, but entered as fast as normal, behind Jesse. When the alpha talked to her, she stood still and waited to answer, ”My sister has taken over my pack, slawn my children, and replaced me” she said, once finishing, she bowed her head and glanced up ”I would like to join your pack” she said standing up now, reaching behind her to bring her hair into a pony tail.

"I will bring money, food, what ever you ask for to this pack and be as loyal as possible" she said doing her best to join the pack.

Baron frowned lightly.

"That's not what I asked," he told her. "Where are they. Jesse already filled me in on the rest. I want to know where they are, right now. Where I can find them."

Normally most packs wouldn't entertain bringing a former Pack Leader into the Bloodstone Pack, but Baron wasn't insecure in his station, or in the loyalty of his pack. Furthermore, a pack needed to bring in outside blood to maintain a healthy gene pool. If her story checked out, she might make a good addition to their ranks. Might. He remained skeptical for the time being.

Blaze looked at her feet, "Just outside of Lutetia to the south I believe, unless they have moved" she said thinking really hard, the last time she was with the pack, they were trying to enter the city, but Blaze not being as stupid as her sister is, didn't want a quarl with a rival pack. "Though I'm sure as stupid as my sister is, she will be entering the city, she doesn't care about the pack as much as I did" she said putting emphasis on the 'did'. She then glanced over at Jesse.

"You're not to leave the premise, until we've verified your story," Baron informed her.

He looked past her shoulder and his eyes met one of his pack who quickly ascertained the wordless implication. He put his pool cue down from where he was in a game and departed the bar.

With that seen to he picked up his bottle of whiskey and turned over an as of yet unused glass. He poured some out and slide the glass across the table towards Blaze.

"Sit, drink. Tell me about yourself."

Once Baron gave the order, she followed it and sat down across from Baron. "Well I was born into this world a werewolf. Never really met a wolf I didn't like, until my sister turned on me, my fur is the same as my hair, only darker, I am very fast, and agile. I am a successful hunter." she said as she paused to take a drink. "I am a very happy drunk, however it takes a lot to get me drunk." she added, sitting back, crossing one leg over the other. "And yourself?" she asked, now leaning forward, drinking every now and then.

"Your parents, who where they?" he asked.

For being born one of them, she didn't seem well versed. And she had chosen to identify herself by the human's word for their kind. Identifying her lineage might help in ascertaining the lack of her... education? Though she hadn't seemed to have know that 'slawn' wasn't a word, so he was beginning to suspect she hadn't received much of an education at all, human or otherwise. He was less concerned about the latter though than he was the former.

"Ah my parents, Jack and Eva Mcgee. They were great hunters and leaders. No one in the pack ever stepped out of line, dad had killed a few pack members for plotting against him. I guess I took the passive side, since I would cut members out of the pack, instead of killing them" she said, taking another drink, "I was only taught to use violence against prey or another pack. I never wanted to fight, but I did when I had to" she added, as she finished the drink. "That is very good stuff" she said.

"Elliot's dead, Bastion and Marc are both landed in the hospital, and we have two more random attacks of humans in the area, one right in our territory. The police are all over it, and worse, one of them was just a child. It's all over the news. Until this blows over, I want all of the pack accounted for and on call," Baron told Jean-Pierre.

"I also want you and Ivan to do a sweep of the Phantom Quarter. Most of the attacks over the past few months have been there, and if we have any rogue wolves living out there preying on humans, I want to know about it."

No doubt trekking around in the disease and muck infested Phantom Quarter wasn't high on Jean-Pierre's list of ways he would particularly enjoy spending his afternoon, but Baron trusted Jean-Pierre, like Ivan, to at least show some restraint if they come across anything out there. He couldn't say the same for some of his pack.

Baron frowned as the police trailed into his establishment. Their presence turned more than a few heads, and a few patrons made it a point to finish off their drinks to leave early for the night. More than a few of the people who visited The Den where faces that didn't want to be crossing words with the police.

No one seemed to be jumping at talking to the police and those who didn't leave turned back to their drinks and ignored the police entirely.

"We'll talk more later," Baron told Blaze.

Even without anyone aiding the police in their search, it wouldn't take them long to locate him in his usual seat by the window. He had a handful of arrests under his belt, though they had never been able to pin much on him over the years. A handful of misdemeanors, some assault and battery charges, and a few counts of obstructing justice. He had seem some prison time for the latter, but they had only been able to nail him with two years. With his position at the head of the Bloodstone Pack, and his pack members accumulating a far wider range of criminal offenses over the years, the police where always keeping half an eye on his goings.

It was enough to sow some unpleasantness between him and the police, but with far larger concerns going on in the city - including the spread of organized crime among the Crescent Sky pack - Baron's goings on where typically of a far lower priority.

Jesse moved a hand to Blaze's elbow as he nodded his head to guide her away from the table.

"I'm going to check on Re'Altarm," he said to Baron.

The police being in here made him uneasy, and he wanted to check up on her now that the matter of Blaze was taken care of.

Baron only nodded briefly as he withdrew a pack of cigarette's from his pocket. He propped one foot up against the seat of another chair as he lit a cigarette up and took a drag of it and waited for the police to find their way to his table.

The doors opened again, and walking in came yet another detective. She laid a hand on Leon's cheek and pushed him to the side in a rude and unprofessional greeting. "Morning, mouthbreather," Jeanne joked, flashing her badge. She nudged Richard. "Gave the little speech?"

Richard arched a brow. "Yes."

"Not very responsive, mm? You did it wrong."

The scar-faced man scoffed at his senior. How did he get in a department with a bunch of morons?

"I'm going to question Baron. You ain't the one for 'im, Choncey" said Jeanne, walking ahead of him over to Baron's table. She threw out the ends of her long coat behind her before sitting herself down. "Hallo, there. I don't think we've actually formally met, but you've got quite the reputation around the office. I'm Jeanne Bonheur. I'm happy to finally meet you, Baron. So, now." Jeanne gave him a tight smile, raising up her eyebrows. "Is there anything you can tell me about last night? Some strange murder you got in your alley, huh?"

Leon pushed his cheek against her hand, smiling lightly. "Finally, someone shows up without a broom up their ass". His eyes flicked towards the door as a small white rat trailed in behind the officer.

He spectated it for a moment longer, watching it sneak behind the counter top. He looked back towards the officer as she began speaking. He let out a quiet laugh; Looked like his nickname for Dick would catch on quicker than he thought. He made his way towards her, remaining silent. For the first time in a long time, the childish look left his face as he gazed upon Baron.

He didn't dare to speak. He had done enough to hurt his cause the last time he encountered the man.

"I don't know anything about it," Baron replied simply. "Other than you've been running my business off all night."

A dead body in an alley wasn't too unusual of an occurrence in Vargeras, but the presence of the the police all over the street outside his bar was deterring some of his more unsavory patrons. They had a fraction of their usual crowd tonight.

"Are you going to be in here long? Or should I just close up for the night, because I'm not going to have any customers left soon."
