Basil Zulfiqar

"You want bear? I got bear. You want dragon? Three months, I get you dragon."

0 · 193 views · located in Lorandor

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by XavierDantius32

Description

A tattered parchment handbill that seems to have been lettered by hand, that crossed your path earlier in the day.

You want beast fair or foul?
Magical or mundane?
Decorative or practical?

Visit Zulfiqar's Travelling Emporium at the Solinus City market today.

The picture on the bill describes a handsome man of uncertain descent with a luxurious moustache curling down over small, expressive lips beaming in a welcoming smile. He appears to be dressed in a robe, circled at the waist by a wide lizard skin belt, from which hangs a whip and a curved sword. Behind him rears a large fire breathing lizard, a giant ursid and a majestic gryphon with spread wings.

“So, Mister Rhomash...”

Master Zul entered the forge, gesturing expansively. The exotic pet salesman (as he declared himself to various customs authorities across Terra) was festooned with survival gear and swathes of bright silks. The voluminous folds of fabric managed to disguise the tight fitting survival suit and the various firearms holstered about Basil's person.

He was in the forge on a vary particular mission. Rhomash had been recommended to him as a particularly skilled guide and navigator of the Barrens, a service that Basil desperately needed if he was going to acquire his prize.

The prize was a Koramir Wyvern. Fiendishly difficult to track, the cave-dwelling reptile prowled the Caldonian ruins. It had become infamous because of it's highly territorial nature, often visiting fiery vengeance upon anyone stupid enough to disturb it's slumber. In most cases, these victims were archaeologists or grave robbers, searching for riches among the decaying ruins.

Basil had been hired by a particularly unscrupulous member of the TNG to acquire one for his private zoo. With a small team, he intended to track one across the sands to it's nest, capture it and then ferry it back into Wing City in a sub-orbital shuttle.

For all this to happen, he needed Rhomash.

"Basil Zulfiqar?" Rhomash asked with a grunt.

He picked up a rag and used it to wipe the grit and dirt from his face before tossing it aside and giving the human a solid look over. The man certainly looked the part of someone who had business in the barrens, rather than some wayward tourist.

"How many?" he asked. "And what's your destination."

They were simple enough question, but also important. Word had reached him as to the stranger in the city looking to hire him out, but had had yet to ascertain the size of the man's party, or how capable they would be in the field. The Barrens was a dangerous place, even with the best of guides.

“Aye, I am he.”

The diminutive Arab had a peculiar way of speaking, partly due to his unfamiliarity with English and an inflated sense of self-importance that motivated him to speak like a character out of a Shakespeare play.

He folded his hands, tucking them into the crimson sash cinched around his waist. His fingertips brushed against the textured grip of a machete tied onto his survival suit.

“Four. We wish to follow the path of Messers Kolanar and Fortesque out to the Severian Temple.”

Severian Temple? That was way out by the mountains he mused... He couldn't say he was well versed in what lay within those peaks as his people never tread there anymore, but the temple he was familiar enough with.

"Ten days, out, another ten for the return. Won't be able to carry enough water for a trip that far out. You'll need pack animals. How long do you plan to be there when we arrive?" he asked. "And how soon do you want to set out?"

Basil had already anticipated most of the guide's demands. His men were already purchasing a number of hump-backed camelids. The beasts were placid quadrapeds with a great dorsal hump for
water storage. The salesman had assured Master Zul that the animals could last over a month without fresh water.

These beasts would be loaded down with all manner of devices for the restraint of a large animal, along with a small armoury of large calibre rifles and electro-shock prods. As for water, that need would be partially fulfilled by the survival suit, which would recycle perspiration and other fluids using an internal filter to make it drinkable again. Theoretically, this would cut the amount of water they needed to transport by thirty percent.

“All taken care of, my friend.” Nodding his balding head, Basil considered the time factor. He'd never tracked one of the Wyverns before. He knew very little beyond what had been outlined by Professor Khosha of the local university's biology department. They could be out there for weeks.

“Mmm... we find it hard to be exact. A week, perhaps two...”

"And departure?" Rhomash reiterated as Basil offered no response to his inquiry regarding his intended time frame for departure.

While he waited for a response he grabbed up a crate from a stack of five and made his way towards the front of the shop where his jeep was parked. With a grunt he hoisted the crate up into the back of the jeep before brushing his hands off and moving back towards the pile of crates, seemingly intent on loading the lot of them.
