Beibhinn

A young female Harpy who races to survive and loves every minute of it.

0 · 1,853 views · located in Sol Avenue and Lady Une Drive

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by CelticCat

Description

Beibhinn is a young female Harpy of the Moluccan Cockatoo breed. Known as White Wash on the racing circuit, she possessed pure white hair that comes to a short bob. The majority of her feathers are also white or gray, covering her arms, chest and legs. She also has a long tuft of tail feathers that form a tail to help her stay balanced while airborne. Another, much smaller, tuft of feathers can be found at the back of her head, a mullet special to Cockatoo Harpies which folds upward according to her emotional state. Her wingspan is roughly eight feet in length and covers almost the same amout in area.

As for her more humanesque traits, she has very clear, light green eyes. They can almost be seen as yellow, depending on the lighting of wherever she happens to be. Her body type is awkwardly lithe, as any girl of her age might have, though she shows signs of becoming more significantly curvy as she matures fully. She seems to be about halfway through her puberty stage, in reference to her age, though she weighs a bare 47 pounds due to the hollow bone structure of her kind. She stands about five foot five inches, being one of larger types of Harpies.

Personality

Beibhinn has a very wild and free persona, always seeking out adventure and excitement. However, she is still very immature for the most part. She tends to be fairly loud and exuberant about everything, but can become quiet if startled or scolded. She has learned to be somewhat manipulative, because of her lack of family, and uses this to get what she needs to survive, or even just what she wants. However, this also means she can act fairly mature for her age, understanding the atmosphere and reacting appropriately.

Equipment

Her only equipment is her own body, it's agility and speed, and whatever money she can make from the flying circuit.

History

Most of Beibhinn's history is a mystery, even to herself. She has no known family members or any connections to anything. When she entered the racing circuit to get money to live off of, she was barely ten and had only a name to offer. Fortunately for her, she showed immense talent for the sport, able to fly extremely quickly due to her agile body and the fact that Harpies are very hard to come by. She quickly climbed the ranks, giving her enough to make a decent living up to the current.

So begins...

Lucifer Fortuna strolled through his private quarters on the upper rink of the racing ring. It showed the entire circuit. It brought back old memories. Good ones mostly. He patted the inside of his coat, feeling his pistols. "Mmm...Lovely times, I used ta have. If only I had my lil birdie again, I could be making some real loot." He almost purred, even when his Bird nuzzled at his cheek, pulling on his ear. He waved his arm, smacking at its sides until it vanished into thin air. "Ah...another race is about to start...I like dis..." He licked his lips, propping himself up on the rail.

Lucifer Fortuna looked down over the race track one more time, giggling to himself. It couldn't be. It was damned impossible. I mean, really, she was another world away. His year and a half in Wing City had taught him that this wasn't the same place. The ocean's were different. They didn't feel the same. But sure enough, he would bet every Sovereign, every dollar, and every doubloon he owned that that was his little Beib. The one responsible for his old rise to power. "Ooooh...this'll be...so very very interesting."

Beibhinn crouched down as the race was set to begin, her feathers all unfurling as she smiled slightly. A shot! She launched off her hind legs and began to beat her wings hard, rising ahead half the competitors right off the bat. She glided down for a few moments before flapping again in another burst of speed, her legs tucking in and and her hair rustling in the wind of her own motion. A single lap and she was in second place, behind a Draconian creature. She was hitting the curves hard to try and catch up...and she was almost there...

Beibhinn felt the wind and closed her eyes, giving another burst of speed. She let out a screech of happiness as she rounded the next corner. She had intended to hit the Draconian lightly, just to giver herself the room to pull ahead...but suddenly he was careening away. Her eyes widened and she took a brief moment to watch...She hadn't even touched him! Had he hurt his wing somehow? It happened often is smaller leagues...but he was a professional! But she didn't have another moment to spare, so she rushed onward, spreading her wings as wide as she could and pounding furiously...right through to the finish.

Beibhinn glided to a stop and fell to her knees, breathing heavy. A woman came out and put a strange towel around her shoulders, pressing something onto her mouth. She began to breathe in deeply as her body calmed itself from the sudden push. She removed the earwig from her ear, used to communicate with her sponsors. "Thanks," she stated simply, smiling wider than ever now that she'd caught her breath. She was ushered off for her winnings and the announcement of winners...but what she most looked forward to was her next meal. Finally.

Lucifer Fortuna asked around. Who owned her. Her sponsored her. All of these things. He arranged meeting with them before quickly following after her, slapping her on the back with a gentle touch. "Ah, its goodta see a friendly face. One with skill." He didn't even care if she wasn't paying attention to him. The bird was back, but he ignored it for once. "Ay ay ay, what a lovely lil bird! Its been a long time Beibhinn-y darling!" Okay, bold, but he had to find out if she was the same one.

Beibhinn jumped at the sudden touch, snapped from her fantasies. The mullet at the back of her head raised up, displayed a shock of red color against her otherwise pale body. "W-What?" she questioned, confused for a moment. She spun to look him over, seeming prepared to greet him in kind...but there was no recognition. So she switched into protective mode. "I...I'm sorry, do I know you?" she questioned, tilting her head slowly. Her sense of danger was rising, but she tried to act natural, puff herself up a little. "You're...one of the sponsors? Right? Sorry, I don't think I've met you personally," she added, trying to seem professional.

Lucifer Fortuna cocked his head. So...she wasn't his Beib. That would make sense. She wasn't alive anymore anyway. She lost one too many times and her odds weren't good anymore. Well...No use for a bad horse. That brought back good memories. "Ahh~~ Yes actually." Time for business. "I am indeed a sponsor. Not only of the Racers, but also of all the entertainment and gambling businesses on the Main Street." He extended his hand as he walked backwards towards the food huts. "Ah ah ah...Name be Lucifer Fortuna. Mr. Fortuna. Whatever ya wish to call me. I has a few business props for ya, darling~"

Beibhinn tilted her head slowly and nodded vaguely. "Alright, nice to meet you, sir..." she responded, giving a slight bow of her head and shuffling her bit of money to strap around her hips. She simply stared at his hand for a moment and tried to continue walking. "What kind of...'business props'...?" she questioned slowly, calmly. Her coach had told her to beware certain types in the circuit...and he definitely fit the profile of someone she should avoid.

Lucifer Fortuna rolled his wrist before slipping a Credit worth more than the entire race she'd won onto the counter, buying more than enough food for the both of them. Two of everything. "Take it to the table in the corner, the racer's area." The waiters nodded, rushing the food over. "There is, no catch. You take advice from me, train, listen to your coach, and you might even earn a place to live." Once they were at the table and the food was set, he kicked his feet onto another table. "Ahhh...I knew anotha racer like yaself. She was good, the best, one of da best. You remind me of her, quiet a bit really." The bird was back again...he growled, shooing it away. Beib, his Beib, could see it. He wondered if she did.

Beibhinn stared at his shoulder for a moment, her eyes scrunched in puzzlement. She simply shrugged though and began to eat as much of the food as she could, while still leaving room to talk. She hadn't seen so much food...in all her life. She'd lived by scraps...and the occasional good bits when racing was good. "Thank you..." she mumbled through the full mouth before swallowing. "I guess? Is it good to remind you of her?" she questioned, rolling her shoulder a bit.

Lucifer Fortuna grinned. Something dark yet something kind. The briefest little slimmer of affection and genuine emotion. "Ya could say I felt some love for her. Most people din't think so. I was garbage to her friends. But I treated her well enough. I was good to her until the end. Mostly...She was a racer too. One of my racers. I just want to maybeh rekindle that spark. We were a good team. Pretty much one of da best, with my teachings and training and tricks I taught her." He didn't even touch the food. He almost never ate anymore...He was growing to not need it.

Beibhinn frowned slightly and shifted in her chair. "I don't have it on me right now...I gave it back to coach before I left the racer pit for the day..." she mumbled quietly. She didn't even waste the effort to correct him about her coach's gender. "I...A...family?" she questioned hesitantly, her eyes lighting up slightly. A spark of her real personality shining through her fears. "I don't..." But she couldn't really think up an excuse anymore. She was growing weary and just wanted to give in...But she couldn't just do that, could she? That was up to her sponsor...

Terem looked at the other contenders of the race, a bit nervous. She'd not prepared herself for it and the only reason she'd even thought to enter was because she enjoyed flying in general. if she proved to do well, perhaps she'd continue. When the gun went off, however, she dashed forward. Although in human form, Terem was still quick. She was outdistanced by the others even quicker, however, so she leaped into the air and shifted to her natural state.

[color=gray]Within the half second of airtime, Terem shifted to her native state of a massive white dragon. She flapped her wings once, twice, and third time to gain altitude and speed, but the two ahead of her had their lead and she couldn't do much to chase them. Not immediately, anyways. She wasn't in it for the win, anyways, figuring that testing herself needed no victory.

Lucifer Fortuna continued to watch. It was interesting. Beib obviously had the best start. She was built for quick dashes, the longer races within the circuit wouldn't bode well for her. However, the new guy was good, even above Draconian standards. Really good. And he didn't have a sponsor. Maybe Lucifer would buy his contract. As long as that scum sucker Trutin didn't get to him first. He was the only sponsor he couldn't bully into submission. He wanted Beib to win, but that dragon chick was catching up, fast. Seemed it didn't matter though. Even if she did win, she would penalized. She was nearly too big to fit in the ring, people would have to give her restriction equipment. "Ah, this is marvelous, simply wonderful..." The Bird spoke again, cackling, cawwing...It drove him mad.

Ichiro watched in anticipation, he had never been in an air race and his pride would tell him he could win but his logic would tell him he wasn't built for it. Like the man he was bonded too he was broad at the shoulders and very muscular, having arms that looked capable of taking oak doors off hinges with little effort. Vanity made him broadcast this as well, always wearing sleeveless shirts. He shook his had and focused on the race again, finding himself cheering for the red draconic being, the most similar to himself.

Beibhinn hissed as she felt the competitor behind her sidle up to her. She didn't have the space...A buzz from her ear wig, her coach, and she spun into the last corner, her arms going as fast as she could make them. She ignored any discomfort she felt from pushing her body so hard...but this was one of the hardest races she'd come upon in a long while. But she focused on the winnings...on another good meal. What Lucifer had promised her, a place to belong...She closed her eyes as the last of her breath ran out, but she had enough to get to the finish line. Just a little farther...! If she could just pull out ahead of this Draconian...She tried to will her feathers to flatten, anything to give her anymore edge. It didn't help that the other main competitor was right behind her, too...She could hear the wingbeats and tried to triple them in her own wings.

Rage Rapture needed this, he couldn't go home, he didn't have the money. He needed to pay his bills, it was time to go 110%. He pushed himself. He began to fly as fast as he could. He pulled slightly ahead of the Harpy. This race was his, all he needed to do was finish the race. The last corner came with ease. This was it, this was his money, this was his sponsorship, this was his future. This was going to be his fourth win. Rage put his head down and went for the finish line. He was a head and shoulders in front of the harpy, hopefully he got this.

Ichiro found his fist in the air and himself on his feet as Rage pulled ahead, cheering the red draconian with a small roar that could be heard above the rest of the watching crowd. The harpy looked like she was pushing herself hard though, he would have to see if he could talk to the racers afterwords, perhaps offer some healing to the harpy and his congratulations to the winner, his hope that it was Rage.

Beibhinn pressed her wings to their limit as she crossed the line...Second. Her wings stopped, her body uncurling as she came back to earth. A slight run with her feet touching first, then hands and knees at the same time. A screeched wheezing coming from her, but her expression completely veiled by the hair and feathers about her. A woman came rushing forwards from the runner's pit, throwing what seemed to be a cooling towel onto the young Harpy's bare back. She pulled the girl's head up far enough to press a device to her mouth, before letting it sink again. Beibhinn just breathed in the oxygen from the mask deeply, taking her time in getting her breath back. Finally, she pulled back, sitting on her legs and pulling down the mask. It revealed a large grin as she gave a childish little laugh. "Didja see that, coach? I kept up with the Draconians!" she screeched happily before the mask was forced back over her face. That had to be one of the most exciting races in years of her experience!
