Karen managed to stay out of most of the line of fire, by virtue of being knocked flat on her ass. It still took her a moment to figure out just what happened, as the Black Hand had moved much faster than a normal human should have been able to. By the time Karen had come to her senses, she only had time to see Val be taken in a wumph of displaced air, as both the woman in red and her captive vanished. The hooded woman managed to roll to her feet as she was stepped over, sliding around the unlucky man as if she were made of water, only to throw him back into the rest of the Marines. She then made a break for it, praying for everyone to make it alive, as bolts of green streaked past, any one of them threatening to end her life. By some stoke of luck, or possibly divine intervention, a frost-covered opening had been made for her a moment before, and Karen was able to make it to the transport, with a leap and a roll. As a last-ditch effort to cover their escape, she threw in what looked to be a normal soda can, though as soon as it clattered to the ground near the group of soldiers, it would begin to emit a high-powered field of extremely high frequency waves. It would work on a similar principle as a microwave oven, exciting the water and fat molecules in the skin, and instantly heating them via dielectric heating, as well as heating metal and anything else too close to the relatively small can. It wouldn't last long, however, but it would be long enough to cause blisters. It was non-lethal, at least.

Reto wasn't quite so concerned about avoiding enemy casualties, as he fired another improvised explosive into the thick of the fighting. His free hand was engaged in making sure everyone made it on board, including an armored man that he didn't recall being there before. Seemed that the guy was on their side, anyways, so Reto was more than happy to help him on board too. As soon as everyone was on that was getting on, Reto turned and yelled to the pilot to get out of there. It seemed that the same moment, a bolt of green zinged past the Cryo native's head, close enough to singe hair and leave a steak of blisters across the man's face. Well that was his cue to duck inside as well, hoping that they didn't end up with any atmos leaks.

"Fuggin punch it, man! We're gettin' fried out here!"

The pilot nodded once everyone was onboard and the ramp ascended. The ship began to rise just when the aschen fired fuel rod grazed the side of the ship the shields took most of the impact but a one of the sections was sealed off. The ship had a small holes and the radation might do some damage but the pilot kept his cool. The ship was still ascending after the hit but it was spiraling upwards the reverence could be seen.

"We just need to even out..." The pilot said softly as he tried to control the spin. "Hey push those levers all the way for me when I say now I need to keep this thing steady." The pilot said to Ben who did as asked. The pilot was holding the wheel but also flicking switchs to stabilize the ship as it rocked around.

"NOW!" He shouted as Ben hit the thing fully forward. The ship lurched and any one including Ben not prepared would be knocked back. A large bang could be heard as the ship made the FTL jump and Ben was tossed across the cabin.

The transport vessel was heavily damaged, but limping. Though it was unlikely the Reverence had got a lock on them before they had jumped and pursuit was unlikely, one could never be too careful. Another jump would have them to the rendezvous point , and once there they could meet up with the other team that had been working the airport security to get the landlock lifted long enough for them to escape. Once there they could get everyone transferred to another vessel that wouldn't be traced before abandoning this one.

Of course that's assuming the crew was sticking to the plan. The entire operation had been a disaster from the start, and the airport security had been ready for them. With Val taken captive, and many of the prisoners dead or wounded, it was only a partial victory on their end. And if someone had ratted them out, there was a high chance they would have revealed the location of the second ship as well.

Further adding to the situation was the simple fact that many of the prisoners that had made it off Arastel were in immediate need of medical care, including Nicolas who remained unconscious.

Ben looked around the cockput, he groaned he pulled himself from the floor. The ship had pulled itself out of it's first FTL jump. Ben .walked over to the pilot. "How is the ship holding up?" He asked the pilot

"Well we I managed to get us here but I'm not sure if we are going to be able to make it to the second point I need to go have a look at the damage and perform some botch repairs this might be a good time to see how the others are doing." The pilot said as he grabbed a tool kit and wandered off.

Ben activated the ship wide comm. "Attention Everyone needs to be in the cargobay in 10." Ben said. He wasn't even sure who was wounded nor who was even on the ship. He was sure of one thing something had tipped the Aschen off. He knew Val hadn't made it on. He wasn't sure why he was shouting the orders here but given his past he clearly had enough experience to know having someone to take command would hopefully bring the others together.

He double checked the holster on his FiveSeveN pistol before making his way to the cargo bay.

As soon as Qâlia heard the announcement, she started walking in the general direction of the cargo bay. Along the way, she started exercising her hydrokinetic abilities for the first time in a few days, shooting a small, high-pressure stream of water from her finger at the handcuffs. After about ten minutes, she arrived at the cargo bay, holding the now-broken cuffs in her lower right hand.

Qalia wouldn't need to go far as all of the prisoners, and those involved in their release had boarded the ship via the cargo bay and most of them were already there. Unfortunately though, the psionic inhibitor was still secure around her neck and efforts to remove her cuffs with hydrokinetic abilities resulted in a debilitating electrical shock as the alien woman was left convulsing on the floor of the ship once more.

Samuel slipped his rifle off from his shoulder and tossed it atop one of the crates before heading towards the captives. He eyed Qalia with a measure of uncertainty as he drew near, but Aschen were well known for their xenophobia, and Qalia was about as alien as they come.

She wasn't the only one that bore a collar among this lot, but she was the only one that wasn't human.

"Frak me," he muttered before he looked over at Urza. "Hey you," he called. "Why don't you make yourself useful and try to do something about these collars," he remarked dryly. "The least you can do after that fuck-up back there," he bit out. "Though... maybe we should leave that one," he added with another glance to Qalia who was beginning to regain her senses from having triggered the mechanisms in the collar.

He didn't sound particularly thrilled with the prospect of uncollaring the mutants among the captives. There was no telling how any of them would react once released. Then again he wasn't thrilled with Urza being on the ship either. If he had his way, the stranger would be dropped off at their first stop.

The collars were strictly psionic inhibitors and wouldn't interfere with Urza's magical capabilities. They were however quite strong.

"Apparently saving your asses is a fuck up. I'll make sure not to do that again."

He checked over the collars, looking for a weak spot or clasp or something. He wasn't very familiar with the mechanisms or their working, but if he could find a spot to exert pressure, he could try to open the collar with a literal half ton of force, or somewhere in that range anyway. It'd been a while since he'd hit the bench, and everything in Faerie was in some form of measurement he wasn't familiar with, to his consternation, but he assumed 74 stone was a fair amount.

While he was trying to snap the collars, he glanced around and took stock of the rag-tag group of miscreants he'd decided to back. Looked like they were mostly civvies turned terrorist, or 'freedom fighter' if they preferred the term, but there might just be some ex-military or cops in the bunch. Hard to tell at a glance.

"So who's in charge of this outfit? I might need to have a chat about what's going on here, now that it looks like I'll be joining your rebellion or whatever."

He settled down over the female who'd tried to do something or another and apparently zapped herself silly, and slipped his dexterous fingers inside the collar, feeling the studs the electricity channeled itself through digging into his fingers as he did so. He flexed his arms, shoulders, and back, applying as much force as he could to the collar, and as a result the mechanisms spat electricity into both his body and the unfortunate woman he was 'saving'. The need for the voltage to be spread to two people would reduce it's effectiveness slightly, though it would still be a painful experience. Static electricity danced over the edges of the armor that he wasn't currently wearing by appearances, and steam rose from the edges of that ghostly image that flickered around his tailored suit from time to time as the energy flowed into his body, reduced slightly by the magic of the armor though still painful. After a moment's effort, he'd snap the feeble thing and sit back on his haunches, resting.

"Well. That was fun, who else wants a ride?"

He'd circulate to any of the other prisoners willing to subject themselves to the painful process of removing the collars and snap them in a similar fashion, though he'd start to look drained after only a few collars.

Meanwhile elsewhere aboard the ship, their pilot had made it to the engine room to start surveying the damage. Cracking a panel open he revealed some sparking wires that had been fried by the hit they had taken from the Aschen Reverence.

"Oh boy," Scott muttered as he set his tool kit out to get to work.

Karen pushed her hood back and stood up after her last-minute boarding of the transport, finding that she had come though relatively unscathed. Her lips moved slightly as she said a prayer of thanks under her breath as she moved to help anyone who had been injured. She didn't have much in the way of supplies, save for anything on the ship, but she could at least bind wounds until more help arrived. She kneeled next to Nicolas, who was thankfully unconscious, her lips turning downward at the charred stump that was once his arm. She made sure the injury was clean, and made sure it was covered, but there wasn't much she could do there. She had standard supplies, yes, but nothing that could just grow an arm back. She left the man with a prayer for mercy, and moved on to comforting the one who were still alive and awake.

Reto kicked the door as it closed behind him, hissing a curse at the enemies left behind. The whole mission had been a set-up, and now Val was gone, and they had to figure out the new chain of command. He gave some thought to this while Karen started to pray over the injured and do what she could to help them. Reto's attention was drawn back to reality when Qâlia electrocuted herself, and then Urza, who Reto swore was blonde a moment ago, decided to aggravate the situation. He got the collar off, sure, but the whole thing had seemed a little stupid.

Instead he picked up the broken collar and sat down to figure this out. Despite having spent all his life tinkering with various types as technology, this thing apparently was much more complicated than anything he had ever seen before.

Ben walked from the cockpit to the cargo bay, he could hear talking but he missed most of what was said as he entered. He didn't really say much as he entered just giving a nod to the others. He glanced them all over for the first time before finally speaking. "Well welcome aboard, but for those of you who don't know we have a slight situation our um leader was captured. I know the general plan but something about all this is screaming trap. I have a feeling that our rendezvous point is out of the questions what do you all think?" He asked, choosing to be direct with the situation rather than skirt around the issue with the possibility of a traitor. At this point Ben didn't care who the traitor might be or if there was even one, he just wanted to solve the task at hand and deal with that issue when it arose.

The collar that Reto was examining was unlike any Isirian tech he knew of. Psionic inhibitors were something that most Isirians had never seen before - and the objects had only begun to circulate the Isirian market in the hands the military and law enforcement officers. This particular make was fortunately the product of sacrificing security for bulk production due to the high concentration of psionics in Isiria. Rather than the starship hull grade trinnium more commonly found on the Aschen slave collars and inhibitors, this one appeared of cheaper make and was likely designed for temporary transportation.

Meanwhile elsewhere in the cargo hold, Samuel's anger was showing little sign of abating, or of taking notice of Ben's arrival.

"Helped us?" Samuel asked incredulously. "Do you have any idea what you did back there?" he demanded. "A few gassed Isirian guards, a few missing prisoners would hardly draw the Empire's attention. The murder of a dozen police officers - with magic no less? This will make inter-galactic news. They'll have our faces plastered all over the known galaxy after that stunt you pulled. You're the reason we have laws against you fraking xenos. Good luck changing the views of the citizens when the morning news will be plastering 'Xeno mutant murders dozens of police in broad daylight' on every television across Isiria."

"And you," he continued, as his ire turned to Reto. "What the hell were you-" he broke off and shook his head. "You know what, what the hell did we expect bringing a Cryon on board."

Racism was well abound by this point as he turned to leave the hangar bay. At this point he didn't care where they were headed.

"Perhaps you didn't notice the group of military thugs gunning down anything that moved, but they sure as hell didn't miss you. The numbers on scene tell me one of two things about your little rebellion here. Either you're so incompetent that they saw you coming a mile off and decided to let you get to the setup part of the operation just to see what you'd do, or more likely one of you're happy crew here ratted your dumb asses so he could line his pockets with a few extra creds. They were clearly prepared for all of you, and would've taken you all out in a heartbeat. The one thing they didn't count on was my appearance. If, however, you think that you can take on those guys by yourself, then by all means let's turn around and drop you off, see how you fare by yourself. Alternately, you could get out right here, and take a little space walk. I could care less, honestly. But the bottom line here is that you are going to stop talking unless you have something useful to say, or things are going to get a little colder in here real quick."

The Fae shook his head and leaned against the bulkhead of the craft before looking back over at Ben, his curious cyan eyes meeting the pilot's. Generally speaking, there wasn't a thing he could do about this ragtag band's leader getting snatched by red-cloak, so he ignored that part of the situation in favor of focusing on the parts he could actually influence.

"I can planeshift about eight of us over to the nevernever and back again if need be, maybe another four in the hole if they're not claustrophobic and can hold their breath, but I wouldn't count on deep space touching on any part of the Faerie you'd want to visit for very long, so we might be better off considering that as a last resort type of deal. I'm about out of tricks, as far as magic goes, or at least the big ones anyway. I've got a few minor things I can still do, but I doubt putting on a magic show or a few illusions is going to get us out of an ambush... unless someone's got a plan, of course."

Reto looked up at Samuel for a moment and held up both hands as if playing a trumpet,"Hey, let me play you the song of my people." He pantomimed playing the imaginary trumpet and raised both middle fingers. He was quick to go back to work, however, not really that concerned with what some racist asshole was on about. Actually,"Sparkles ova there is roight, though. Someone tipped those guys off. We weren't suppos'ta need t'bring out the big guns. But we did, and now Val's gone. Maybe it was you that tipped 'em off."

Reto hid no anger for the man, but didn't look up from his work again. His concern was those they managed to save, and that meant getting those collars off without shocking them all to hells. As if reflecting his thoughts, the collar discharged, giving the Cryron a small zap that was acknowledged only with a muttered curse. Well he figured out how to turn the collar into a tazer, but that wasn't exactly what he was going for. I'd make for a useful weapon once them managed to actually get the collars off everyone.

"Well since we know we're walkin' into a trap, maybe we can try limpin' our way elsewhere? What's our options? Cause shit's lookin' pretty fuggin' bleak roight now, and I'm not up for tellin' women and children that we're sorry but we gotta hand them roight back to the fuggers that wanna put them inta a buncha death camps."

Karen shook her head and pushed her hood back to reveal a young woman with olive skin and almond-shaped eyes. Her face held very clear concern as the men argued back and forth,"Stop. We're all supposed to be on the same side." She turned her attention toward Urza, her voice softening slightly,"Please don't hurt anyone, you clearly aren't a bad person, or you wouldn't have helped us in the first place." She paused for a moment seeming to think things over as she looked at each person, then back to Urza,"You said you can create illusions? What are the limits of that?"

"Whoa, you're not actually goin' t-"

Karen cut the Cryon's protest short with a light chopping motion in the air, without even looking at him,"I don't plan on letting these people get killed if I can do something about it." Her eyes locked on Urza's without any fear,"Will you help us?"

Samuel turned back about as Urza voiced his threat. "Yeah, I have an idea you Xeno fuck," he bit out. "Why don't we just put your ass out the airlock and be done with it. If you think you can just waltz onto our ship, making demands and threats."

Things were rapidly growing more and more heated by the moment.

"Samuel Davis!" Karen broke out the stern mother tone, her eyes narrowing at the larger man,"Be quiet right now. I said no fighting!" She waggled a finger at him, then scowled at the room in general, daring anyone to start something else,"Now if you're willing to act like an adult and offer helpful suggestions, you may speak. Until then, please shut up."

She kept a finger pointed at him for a moment longer, silently threatening to put him on his back if he insisted continuing.

Ben looked at Urza and Samuel. "Oi! No fighting like she said." He nodded to Karen. Then he turned to Samuel to answer his clearly voiced concerns that was directed to be earlier.

"I'm in charge here now mate I was just a gun for hire to watch this ship but the big boss left me as Val's XO. As for the op your going to have to leave those questions behind it's over now." He said pausing he listened to the others took this moment to silence the others by interjecting and answering what they had been shouting earlier.

"I'm not up for any magical stuff thank you very much I just don't trust it. But I think we all need to calm down. I bet those aschen have traced us and I've been a prisoner of theirs before and I'm not willing to do it again. So you all better stop fighting and actually toss out some constructive ideas other wise the next person to fight will meet the business end of my pistol. IS THAT CLEAR!" He said as his voice continued to rise until he sounded like a drill sergeant by the end.

He knew he was probably out of line but when things went bad he fell back on old habits. Being an Ex- Military officer it was natural for him to say this but he knew he was going to take shit for it.

"Easy there, Gunny, no need to lose your cool. Unless you've got a spare ship in your pocket, though, we're pretty well screwed. Anything in range we could lay low on for a bit?"

He folded his arms over his chest, leaning his head against the bulkhead as he tried to figure solutions out. He turned back to Karen and started ticking off on his fingers while he recounted his various abilities, hoping to touch on something to get them out of the current jam. The wounded ship wouldn't fly forever, and with their current luck they'd get spotted by a patrol or something.

"Illusions... Well, I can make one glamour of about twenty or thirty feet cubed, nothing much bigger than that. Sight, sound, smell, touch, the works. You could probably figure it out if you poked at it enough, but it'd be pretty tough to do unless you were expecting it. I can do a similar version of about the same size, minus the smell and sound, and it's a little sketchier on the touch aspect as well. Easier to figure out if you poke at it than the other one. Let's see, what else do I have in my bag of tricks... I can make an exact copy of myself, capable of making with the magic and everything. I'd have to give it a real gun in order to have it shoot, but other than that it's pretty useful. I can make one or two people invisible for a little while, but I'm not sure how useful that'll be... phantom sounds, dancing lights, some minor stuff like that... nothing I can think of that sounds particularly useful though. "

Samuel seemed set to throw Karen a scathing retort when Ben spoke up. Samuel, like Ben, had a military background, and if nothing else aboard this ship he did respect the chain of command. And that put Ben in charge of the operation until they made it back.

"As long as that thing is on this ship," he warned Ben, "There won't be a safe place in all of Isiria for us. Take my advice and drop him off on the first rock we pass."

With a shake of his head he departed the hangar bay and left the group to their discussions. He needed to cool off, and he wouldn't be doing that as long as Urza was on hand.

Reto looked up when Ben took command of the situation, then back down at his work when Samuel let the room,"Ass. I think I'll take mah chances with Sparkles the magic fairy ova' here. I was gettin' a might bit close t'gettin' up and givin' him a smack in the mouth." He looked up at Ben again,"This shit stinks, Fox. We got'a rat in here somewhere, and that means whatever we do we're gonna have the Asschen on our tails. I say as soon as we pop these collars, we space 'em, and toss Sam out too. I'm willin' t'bet good money the guy is dirty. Let's cut our losses."

"You can't just throw people into space!" Karen frowned and looked between Ben and Reto,"Look, I think we should try to meet up with the other ship, then run as fast as we can. Right now we just need to get out of here." The New Haven native was idealistic, and didn't want anyone to die if she could help it,"Besides, we don't know who gave us away. It could have been you, or me, or anyone here."

"Fuggin' detective, y'are, its me, a mutie would absolutely jus' go n' hand himself ova' to the almighty assholes. And I don't care anyways, I just wanna see that dick take a spacewalk." Reto shook his head, managing to pop apart the collar in his hands, though at the same time it discharged and shocked the Cryon badly enough that he dropped both the collar and his tools. This was punctuated by a little bit of creative swearing, and Reto climbing to his feet.

Karen sighed softly and turned her attention back to Urza,"You said that you can planeshift? Do you think you could send away just the collars? Or do they have to get them off first?"

Reto pointed his screwdriver at Urza,"By th'way, what are y'doin' here anyways? Last I knew fair folk don't jus' go about helpin' folks for nothin'."

"Well I think we can say with certainty that I'm not the one who leaked your plans to the Aschen. If I had to make a guess, and keep in mind this is just a shot in the dark, I'd put my money on the racist asshole as the rat. Just a guess though, but let's see a show of hands on who agrees with that assessment? The only non-prisoner, non-mutant, non-xeno is the likely candidate?"

He raised a hand nonchalantly, a half smirk spreading across his features as he did so. He glanced over at Reto at the mention of repayment.

"Well, I'm not exactly doing it out of the kindness of my heart, but let's just say I've got a vested interest in this little rebellion of yours and it benefits me greatly to see it succeed, and leave it at that, shall we?"

His body language and expression soured, and made it clear he wasn't keen on that particular subject. After a moment, he seemed to remember Karen's question.

"They're too tight for me to do anything on a planar scale, and even then I can only go there and back once a day or so. I could try it, but likely as not we'd just end up in Faerie with the collar intact. Maybe it's internal workings might not work there, but it'd still be on. I can yank the collars pretty easy, though, if people are willing to put up with the shock. "
