Blade Ulenna

Four hundred year old Reagent Lord and Commander of the Erutin Remnant. He's back, and he's pissed.

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Colyo

Description

Image

Blade is a six foot tall, lightly clad fighter with silver hair and bright aquatic blue eyes. His features give off a distinct arrogance, but at the same time, his
stance and equipment will give the impression that his confidence is well founded. He is three hundred and fifty one years old, and has been part of the Queen's guard since he was thirty nine, making him part of the unit for three hundred and twelve years. He is only twenty five years younger than the queen herself, making him and his sister one of the oldest twinsets currently alive. Being so combat oriented, this brings Blade to a position of much respect, having survived so amazingly long.

He ended up marrying the Empress, only to see her killed in the destruction of the Erutin homeworld a few years later. Now without his wife, and having lost his children to Hegemony defection, all he has left is the remnants of the empire that look up to him for leadership. In grief and pain, he has become ruthless. Even his twin lies in coma. He rules with an iron fist, and his fleet's return to the core worlds will undoubtedly be bloody.

The death of his wife left him horribly disfigured and mostly unable to shapeshift; he is heavily scarred on the right half of his face, and his left arm is stuck in the form of a bear's. Although this has proven more a boon to his intimidating stature than a weakness. His sword arm remains unaffected.

Personality

Blade shares many stereotypical features with Darks of the warrior breed: he is headstrong, protective, and dedicated to his skill in combat. He is polite, but is very quickly irritated with the incompetent, who in his eyes, is more or less everyone. He tends to show off but less to stroke his own ego than to forcefully educate other prospective fighters around him.

In the more detailed side, while he comes off as arrogant, he can be quite kind hearted. He dedicates his skills to only those he feels worthy, or oft in his case, the Queen whom which he is under employ as an elite guard. He is a swordsman of honor in both practice and principle; however he is more than trained in ranged combat and has needed to adapt to such environments repeatedly, so, he keeps a plasma pistol on his person at all times just as he does his sword... but only as a reluctant precaution.

Most shape shifters have one or two oft kept forms. Blade, on the other hand, shifts rapidly to whatever suits his situation, often only being in human form to be presentable or to fight. His most often used forms are a Snow Leopard, a Falcon, and a black domestic cat. However don't think he won't shift to a god damn rhinoceros if you piss him off enough, because not only will he, but he's done it before.

Equipment

His sword is his primary weapon, as shown in his picture above. It is an obsidian longsword with several magi-technology enhancements:

- Deflection shield to repel energy based projectiles and most ballistic weapons on command
- The ability to shift shape depending on the requirements;
- Direct shape and material shifting, changing size and sharpness down to the molecular level
- Possible mechanics addition, including motion for drilling or chain-saw like automated cutting
- Ability to completely consume incoming magic attacks, no matter how powerful. Extra energy that the blade cannot store will simply be expunged into the air as harmless magical static. Absorbed energy will be focused into the user's next magical attack.
- Fire, Ice and Shock elemental blade enhancement emitters.
- Elemental blade emission, allowing user to "throw" a purely magical copy of his weapon.
- Blade disintegration / retraction for easy storage
- Magic jammer failsafe locking it into a standard bladed mode until the jammer is removed

As far as magic goes, Blade uses mostly magi-technology boosted abilities through his BlackOps implant. This grants and augments several almost supernatural abilities that he uses often in combat, although through practice, he could manage any of them without his implant by now.

- Short range and quick teleports
- Basic elemental damage casting, usually electric but also fire and ice as needed.
- Ranged bolts
- Area of effect emission from himself
- Remote projectile momentum control
- Rapid fire or chargeable for increased damage
- Speed enhancement, allowing him to run up to 115 k/ph (about 68 m/ph?) with enough time to accellerate. This speed goes up dramatically. If he shifts into a fast animal like a Cheetah, for example, he can breach Mach 2.
- Ranged grip and momentum, allowing him to pick up and throw objects at a range with the same power as his own strength.
- Limited healing with his own shifting, being able to repair minor wounds on his own.

His secondary weapon is a heavy caliber bullet fed pistol developed on Earth and enhanced with
shapeshifter technology. It is based on the .500 S&W Magnum, the single most monstrous bullet size ever put inside of a handgun. This magnum is so large, it is often carried with a shoulder strap. Blade's is attached to his belt by magi-magnetism... and is an extremely intimidating accessory. A bullet from this beast will knock a basketball sized hole in the normal human body, but when hitting something too tough to pierce, the kinetic momentum could knock a 250 pound man after armor flying backwards 10-15 feet. It is a high enough caliber to serve as an anti-vehicular option when it strikes the right sweet spot.

Magitechnology enhancements on this weapon are as follows:

- Elemental shot settings: Fire (explosive), Frost (numbing/freezing), Shock (tazing, electronic disabling)
- Magical bullet acceleration bringing the feet-per-second output to a monstrous 2600
- Bullet stabilization for enhanced long ranged accuracy
- Enhanced iron sights linking a crosshair directly to the user's implant and to their vision
- Muzzle stabilization for reduced recoil and muzzle climb

History

If you are unfamiliar with Shapeshifter society, please see it's section below, or much of this will not make sense.

His sister, Bow's profile can be found here: roleplay/the-multiverse/characters/bow-ulenna/

Image

Blade Ulenna is three hundred and fifty one years old and has been a member of the Shifter queen Wing's elite guard since he thirty nine. His sister Bow was tattooed with his name symbol two crossed blades when he was born, in the usual Shifter manner. His twin's name is Bow, and her symbol was tattooed on him.

Him and his Light, Bow, were born in a hidden Shifter colony on Earth, where they were raised mostly as humans but sent back and forth between Earth and the hidden Academy colonies on Mars to learn the ways of their own society. They were unusually close, even for a Shifter twinset; most Dark's had a possessive nature with their twin, taking on a forceful authority instead of a bonding partnership; these two were a glowing exception to that rule, Blade often giving his sister unprecedented freedoms that many times had him looked down upon by his Dark peers... even by his instructors.

He went to the Warrior's Academy the moment he was qualified and trained neck-breakingly hard, earning him many honors before graduating the full twenty year program by the age of thirty eight. Usually a Dark would happily pull a Light out of their commitments to go about working in their own field, but in his case, his classmates all left abroad while he stayed put on Earth, waiting patiently for his sister for finish her Healer's schooling and all of her other qualification requirements.

When the two of them were quite ready, they finally left Earth, never to return. Because Shapeshifters do not attach to their parents or children the same way humanity does, they leave behind little, together scowering the galaxy looking for positions worthy of their qualifications and honors... and every job offer that would have them separated, they quickly turned down, although they were forced to stop and make a living once in a while to support their planet-jumping lifestyle.

Their travels eventually brought them to the densely overpopulated Shifter homeworld of Erutino. As though by fate, there was a tournament being held where the best warriors could compete for a spot on the Queen's personal elite guard. While Blade was barely out of the academy, the tournament officials allowed him a spot into the qualifiers, laughing as he stepped up with nothing but his Academy diploma. He surged on confidently regardless.

The laughs of the officials bounced off of his confidence coupled with the cheers of his sister in the stands as he engaged in duels to the death. As there are literally trillions of Shifter's in the galaxy, no one thought twice to have the tournament all battles to the death. Every entry would die except for the grand winner.

Not only did Blade win, but he won gracefully. Famous favourites were crushed and killed by the skill of this apparent nobody, and it was with quiet grumbling that he was accepted into the Queen's guard. The only one that had welcomed him warmly, ironically, was Queen Wing, who had offered Bow a place serving at her side as a royal family servant and castle staff resident doctor.

His success in the entry tournament granted him only mistrusting glares from the other members of the guard, and it took him almost ten years to finally earn their respect, and twenty to gain their reverence. Forty years into his service he was at last given full command of the guard.

When he was ninety years old, fifty years into his service on the Honor Guard, the Queen tasked him with an unspeakable deed: to separate the newborn twinset that was Hopeand Snow Anona, and to bring Snow to a foster family located hundreds of light years away. His loyalty was the only reason he went through with it, and it wasn't until two hundred and fifty nine years later that the Queen explained her actions...

SHAPESHIFTER SOCIETY

"...Their society was broken, half of it so heavily dependent on the other that it stopped them from advancing further. Parents were having new children with every season, casually abandoning the children they had just had to the care of older kids, if they even cared that far.

Abandoned children raised themselves, til they were older enough to make it to the public Academies. During this bad stretch of time, it's not uncommon for the Light twin to depends entirely on the Dark twin to provide, furthering their interdependence rather than trying themselves.

Academies only teach further interdependence, refusing to teach the entirty of both subjects to both sides of the twinset. Light's often know nothing of birth control, and Darks often do not care to inform them. Indeed, Lights are often taught sewing, and lace making, along with a variety of other topics meant to encourage nuturing. They often know no advanced maths or science.

Abuse is all too common, against children and in future relationships, though it is normally viewed as 'showing love' and 'protecting the Light from themselves.' Unfortunately, this social norm is highly distressing on the society itself. With the constant influx of new cultural information due to the colonization efforts, Lights are quietly beginning to question if this is right, while the Darks remain oblivious. But they are too frightened and timid to instigate the change...." ~Exerpt from the profile of Hope Anona, as played by Karato http://www.roleplaygateway.com/roleplay/a-place-to-call-home/characters/hope-anona/

Education
It is generally held that the Dark, as the stronger, more protective, and also more sedate 'leader' of the two is to provide physically for the weaker more excitable Light twin, thought the Light twin often acts almost as a caregiver to the Dark, cooking, cleaning and generally seeing to the Darks more emotional needs. In this way the two balance each other, and really do not understand how to live without the other.

Thus, the Dark Academy of a sector is never more than a half mile away from the Light Academy, and though separate dorms are available, and encouraged, during these years, it is not uncommon to find Light twins making their way to the Dark's room at night, as Lights do not like being left alone.

However, in the event a Dark takes a Warrior job, or a Traveler job, there are dorms available for the Light half of the twinset. This is provided so the Dark twin may never need to worry of the safety of his/her light twin as the Light Compounds and Light Dorms are some of the heaviest guarded places in a Shapeshifter world/colony.

Each shapeshifter is required to take ten years of Basic Education at an Academy and past that will take an apprenticeship to learn a job field if not going in one of the Academy fields.

There are of course as many fields of education in their culture as there are in their culture. However there are several distinct fields that use the Academy system rather than the standard mentorship system used after Basic Education. These fields are as follows:

Medical
Healers are an integral part of any society, but especially the accident prone Shapeshifters one. This field is almost exclusively dominated by Lights, though there is the occasional Dark working with his/her Light twin out of devotion. It takes 10 years to master. Bow Ulenna is one such graduate of this academy.

Warrior
Warriors are integral to any society, but especially one that is as large and rambunctious as Shapeshifters. Each colony and settlement has a large percentage of warriors to ensure the Laws are followed. This is an exclusively Dark field, with one exception in the form of Hope Anona who is a ten year graduate. She is obviously a fairly recent exception and is never actually used in this field. This class includes everything from the Queen's Elite Guard to the common guardsman on the street. It takes from 5-20 years to master, depending on job field. Blade Ulenna and Snow Anona are both twenty year graduates with glowing honors.

Traveler
Travelers are the dimensional explorers of the shapeshifter society and the vanguard of the colonization efforts. It is there job to locate suitable worlds that already have a society set up so that Shapeshifters may infiltrate and slowly overwhelm the native inhabitants by sheer numbers. Though they have their own special Compound in Erutino, the Homeworld of Shapeshifter society, most Travelers rarely even settle in a place for more than two weeks. These are mostly Darks as well. Only after having completed the Warrior Academy can a Shifter go on to become a Traveler. It takes 20 years to master. Hope Anona is a graduate of this academy.

Colonists
These shifters are trained to blend in in a variety of worlds with a large variety of different tech levels and environments. Often the world they will travel to is picked at the start of their education, so that they may become highly familiar with their world. Both Lights and Darks enter into the field, often as pairs, and many times after being mated as well. It is the largest Academy and the easiest to enter. The government encourages as many shifters as possible to go there, to the point where it is the only Academy in which you get paid to go. However, because it wouldn't do for shapeshifter to stick out on their new world, they are often limited to the birthing cycle of whatever the dominant species is in that world. It takes ten years to master.

Other fields, are often populated heavily by Lights as many Darks go off the the Warrior class. The Lights however are happy to support their Darks, knowing that each has it's place in society.

Government
The Shapeshifter society is a monarchy, with and elected not inherited Noble class, though the Royal family does inherit to the eldest Light. The Queen of Shapeshifters is always the Light of the eldest surviving twinset at the previous Queen's death.

Religion
Shapeshifters have a full pantheon of twenty Goddesses, though religion plays a small role in their lifestyles. Still, they do observe a Holy Day on each equinox and solstice, along with a Feast Day for each Goddess.

Technology level
Shapeshifters have found a way to combine technology with their magic and have space-age technology with the ability to colonize and cross lightyears in short amounts of time. However, they have never seen the point of robots, so have a very small robot population.

They do have Implants used with Travelers exclusively that allow the Travelers to understand and speak in any language as long as the implant is functioning. electricity of any level can knock it out though ambient electricity and static electricity often only destroy the ability to speak and understand a handful of languages. These implants are self repairing and planted onto the brain itself, where it proceeds to integrate with the brain on it's own.

On Lights and Darks

Birth
Shapeshifters are never born without a twin. These twins are separated into half, with one named the Dark and the other named the Light. This distinguishment is established solely by birth order. During the birthing process the Dark is birthed first, but the Light is grasping the Dark by the heel as s/he is born.

They are raised together for the first twenty years of their life, before being put in formal education in separate, but always close by, Academies.

It is rare that just one twinset will be born. Shapeshifter produce in litters of up to eight kits or four twinsets. Hope was more in a litter of two twinsets, herself and Snow, and her 'brothers' the Light twin Rain, and the Dark twin Thunder.

Hope's mother, a flighty woman named Feather, gave birth to 747 twinsets before her death in her 98th year of living having given birth from age 23 to age 98, though she died shortly after her last litter was born do to a shifting accident involving a goose form and a hunter. Hope has never met all of her many, many siblings, and doesn't actually know who they may be outside of her own litter.

RELATIONSHIPS

Between Light and Dark

The Light very much is taught that the needs of the Dark go before the needs of the Light, while the Dark is taught the opposite is true. This means that each is highly concerned that the other's needs are well met and so always strives, not for themselves, but for their twin.

A Light will follow her Dark to the end of the Earths if need be, and often follows her Dark's commands without a seconds thought, knowing that her Dark would never order anything that could cause a Light harm. She will back away from any relationship her Dark even vaguely hints at disapproving of.

A Dark on the other hand, often will go out of her way to fulfill any wish of her Light, especially the little reasonable ones. She will defend the Light from all the harder parts of life and cushion her life's journey to the best of her ability, refusing to allow the Light's hand to go to anyone who can not defend the Light well form life's hardships.

Friendships
In this, the Light often has a great deal of control, as Dark's tend to be withdrawn creatures. The outgoing Light will cheerfully make friends with Light and Dark alike, dragging her Dark behind her with an unmitigated glee. The only stopping force in this would be a subtle glance, or a word from her Dark which may slow her down or stop her completely, though never for long.

Family
Shapeshifter families are not close at all, with the only bond normally being one of blood to the sheer size. While yearmates and littermates may know eachother well enough to jump to each others defense, mostly close family bonds are only formed between the littermates of a season, with a more cousinly bond to the other yearmates.

Romance
A Light may seek younger than her Dark would like, but she will not do more than glance at, smile happily, and perhaps make lighthearted conversation unless her Dark allows her too. Often, due to the over-protectiveness of Darks, a Light will have never even kissed until she settles in on her final and normally only relationship. This has led to a very persistent myth among Lights that no one thinks to dispel: A Light can only be with one person their entire lifetime.

Mating
Mating is the permanent marriage bond between to shapeshifters. It allows each to maintain a supernaturally level of awareness with each other, always aware of how the other is doing physical and emotionally as well as establishing a telepathic bond between the two. Light's consider this highly sacred, and while Darks appreciate it highly, they don't take the same religious view of the act of mating as Light do, though they tend to agree strongly on the ceremony of mating.

Shapeshifters mate only in pairs, twinset marrying twinset. Because of Hope and Snow's unique situation however, Hope long ago resolved to marry a non-shapeshifter without a twin, as she hadn't found her twin. Now that she has, that may or may not change, depending on her twin almost entirely.

Death
An all too common problem, this species has an average lifespan of 95, despite being capable of living well until their 3,000s. Unfortunately, due to the mating bond and the twinbond, the death of just one Shapeshifter takes down their twin, their mate, and often their twin's mate as well.

Snow Anona Snow resisted the urge to grin at Blade in amusement; it was too funny for words to watch Hope evade his presence instead of her own. “One thing you must accept about Hope, Dark Blade; she will always outwit you if she doesn’t want to be found.”

Her statement was punctuated by Talon’s gesture of greeting and it took a great deal of self-control for the Dark not to growl in anger at the man’s audacity, taking small pleasure from the look on his face when he discovered Hope’s engagement.

Hope’s reaction to the new Dark was expected and Snow saw right through her attempt at feigned fear, she supposed, but she placed a reassuring hand on her sister’s shoulder nonetheless.

“Dear Light, you know you shouldn’t run off like that. At least tell Kendra where you are going and when you will return. Blade has his orders, after all,” she chided, but there was a flash of approval in her eyes as she gazed down at her twin.

The men in their lives were becoming troublesome indeed.
