So this was the stage?

She'd heard the crowd from a long way off, the hooting and hollering, and had gathered wind of what was going on inside the arena walls. Creatures were fighting for entertainment, for the pleasure of Two-legs and Soft skins. While the idea was a little more than disconcerting, she'd remained quiet about it, merely making her way toward the arena as if she were a simple spectator, or a competitor.

The crowd parted for her as she made her way to the door, pausing just inside the doorway with her head angled slightly to the side. Long, autumn-colored locks curled around her shoulders, hanging to her waist like a cascade of turning leaves. Her horns, recently polished, glistened in the lighting as she stared at the other centaur.

Green eyes narrowed thoughtfully, a glint of concern reflected in the downturn of her thin lips.

The female's brow furrowed slightly as he met her eyes, her lips still thoughtfully turned down at the corners as she dipped her head in a nod of acquiescence. Turning from him, she trotted around him and the human who was haggling him, glancing back over her shoulder one last time before making her way through the crowd, heading towards the only place where she could imagine the 'food court', as he called it, would be located.

Such a strange creature. Nothing like the males she had seen before. It was intriguing.

She stared down at Sasha's manager with slightly widened eyes. "I'd heard of him. Not necessarily for this fanfare," she gestured with a wave of her hand toward the arena. She wasn't really sitting at a table, just sort of standing awkwardly off to one side.

"So I suppose you could call it a chance meeting, since I didn't believe that there was another centaur running around here anyway." She glanced from him to the centaur in the distance, wondering if all of this was really worth it. She wasn't the kind of creature to get wrapped up in this kind of business. She enjoyed the woods, hunting, surviving, the normal kinds of things that centaurs did.

Apparently Sasha had discovered some other purpose. She wasn't sure what to make of it.

"Cailin." the female replied, taking the business card and glancing at it before tucking it into a satchel she kept on her left hip. She crossed her arms over her chest, looking down at him with a curious expression on her face. Biting her lower lip, she pulled back, looking over to Sasha before idly shrugging her shoulders.

"Look, if he's busy I can come around some other time. I honestly didn't think I was going to be dealing with a Two-leg celebrity."

She said those words with some animosity, her nose wrinkling in the slightest.

She shuffled her feet, meeting his gaze uncertainly before she shrugged and stepped up to his side. "So why do you stay then, if you don't like being the only one around?"

She didn't think she'd be able to stay here for that long by herself. It would have driven her crazy.

Nodding, she glanced off to the side, almost shyly, then started to walk. "Do you mind if we move along and talk? It's hard for me to stand still."

True enough. She had enough pent up energy to go running for miles without stopping.

It didn't take her long to figure out that she really didn't enjoy or understand city life. Being stared at everywhere she went, being the tallest four-legged creature around, hardly able to make her way through crowds without fear of stepping on someone's foot. No. Out here it was much easier. In the quiet of the forest she could blend in with dappled sunlight, enjoy the smell of the forest, the sounds of the leaves crunching underfoot. She could live out here.

So that's precisely what she was going to do. She walked rather lazily, keeping an ear out for anyone nearby, and pausing to observe a bird's nest tucked away roughly ten feet above her head.

The sound of the motorbike, followed up with the awful smell of diesel, had Cailin stepping around the tree to place herself behind it. The birds in the nest above startled and flew away. She sighed almost angrily.

When Sasha approached, she simply eyed him, not looking terribly pleased to see him around. "Hi Sasha." she replied, trying to keep the bitterness out of her voice.

"Why did he have to bring that thing with him?" she asked, referring to the motorbike. "It's disgusting, and it's frightening the animals out here. He needs to learn to have more respect." She wasn't angry with Sasha. In fact, she wasn't that angry in general. She was just unaccustomed to feeling uncomfortable, lending to her sour attitude.

That, and she was exhausted. Five miles? He should try one hundred and five.

She looked a little startled, but nodded her agreement regardless. "I'd like that." she said quietly. She meant it too. Stepping to the side so that he could walk with her, she continued into the forest, a little deeper this time where the atmosphere was cooler and just a little darker. The canopy was thick, lending to the darkness, but all around them things were moving again. Birds, squirrels, even a deer way off in the distance.

It wasn't long before Cailin was smiling again.

"I apologize if I seem more than a little unapproachable." she told him, reaching to touch his shoulder without looking at him. She pointed out the deer, glancing up to his eyes to see if he could see it too.

"I just don't understand them. It isn't hate." she replied, letting her hand fall and removing her other from his shoulder. She reached back to braid her hair instead, the fiery tendrils easily curving into the plait. "They aren't necessarily bad, just...I don't know. I didn't get a good sampling of them when I was at the arena, I suppose. It's strange to be stared at."

Her tail flicked in annoyance. "I'm far more comfortable out here, in the company of natural things." She glanced over at him with a slight smile.

"I meant to tell you that you fought very well."

"I'm glad you've found a sense of belonging then." she told him. "My family was scattered by a rival clan several months ago. We were simply instructed to find somewhere safe to live until we could come back together." She looked down at the ground, letting go of her hair and continuing to walk.

"I haven't heard from them. Not sure when I will." She shrugged then, and smiled as if it didn't bother her.

"As far as hunting is concerned, I could teach you? It's nothing to be particularly ashamed of. There are things I'm not all that good at either. The kind of combat you use is something I can't do. I'm too small." It was true. While she wasn't comically smaller than Sasha, there was a significant structural difference.

"I'm far more proficient with a bow." she said with a confirming nod.

"So why do you stay then?" she asked, ignoring the comment about her family. "If you don't feel like you fit in here, either. Why don't you just move on until you do find someplace that you belong?"

What did it mean to belong anyway? Was it a situation or person or background or group of people? She didn't know. Was it even that important to feel as though one belonged? She'd like to pretend that it wasn't, but she knew the truth of the matter was that, yes..it was very important to feel as though one belonged.

Fenrias Hallvard emerged from a small hatch hidden amidst the brush. He checked his surroundings carefully - listening for disturbances in the foliage and sniffing the air.
