- Abilities -

Lacertus Engaged

An extremely capable and versatile individual. His experience with the body includes adept free-running skills and advanced martial arts. He is also knowledgeable in various types of hand-to-hand weaponry and has limited experience with firearms. He is easily capable of fighting against multiple armed assailants alone and using his keen awareness for tactics and his surroundings to put himself in a position of advantage, or blatantly overpowering them.

His education further extends itself into the realm of the mind, including basic medical skills and psychology. A keen social spectator, he can become one with the crowd and both hide and sense dissent among them. He takes a keen interest in philosophy, physics, political science, tracking, investigative techniques and sociology and as a result has a somewhat amateur knowledge of many of their basic concepts (or more). In his Engaged stage, he is very much the silent knife, having to adopt the tactics mentioned above in order to survive with such limited mortality.

Lacertus Released

To be known at a later time...

- Specific Powers -

Lacertus Seal: It is known that Cain is not simply mortal. He comes from a powerful bloodline and his heritage is vast. With the blood of intermixing supernatural races within him, he was a hybrid destined for greatness and with his Father's childhood regime of harsh training, greatness he gained. The Lacertus Seal was created and placed upon him so that his power could be severely limited and not misused until he understood fully what it meant to wield it. Plus, not having this power to wield made living in a world of others much easier, if not more dangerous. The risk was worth it, his mother assured.

As a result, the Lacertus Seal has two modes: Engaged and Released. When Engaged, he is effectively human, with only a shimmer of any supernatural origin. Then there is Released, a stage that can only be accomplished under the following conditions: when severely wounded or stressed by a power much greater than himself; when allowed to use it by the collective will of enough people or when his mother chooses to remove it. Released is the stage in which his full strength comes to fruition and is more than likely capable of putting him on par with many a powerful being.

Soul Contract System: The Soul Contract was a unique sealing contract created by his ancestors and passed down through his family. It allowed one to forcibly (or otherwise) put a 'leash' around the soul of another, giving them control over various aspects of their true selves. While it does not allow them to manipulate directly, it has various powers over the person in question, including:
Summoning: instantly summons the contracted to the contractor.
Send to Last Location: instantly 'sends back' the contracted to their last location before being summoned.
Leech: allows the contractor to leech the life force and power of the contracted over a period of time. This means if the contracted is more powerful than the contractor, the contractor can 'leech' from the contracted until they are at an equal level, without diminishing the contracted's own power.
Alter: Allows the altering of the contracted's body and soul. By far the most extreme of the abilities, yet the most commanding. With this, the contractor can remove or increase the power of the contracted at his whim, to where he is nothing more than a human, or until he has reached his
full potential. It can also be used to prematurely begin the effects of ageing.

History

Birth

The distant future for Cain Genesis was bleak; powerful villains had wiped out all but the strongest in the galaxy, until the galactic population was estimated to be barely a few thousand. Imagine that for a moment - being born into a galaxy that had once been home to thousands of thriving races and civilizations, civilizations that been been completely decimated.

His parents, Kross and Mayuki Genesis, chose to raise him on the secluded desert planet of Aika, along with around two hundred colleagues, friends and family members. Together, this community of grizzled veterans - soldiers, martial artists and those lucky or powerful enough to escape alien hordes took refuge in ruined cities and tried to rebuild.

Unfortunately, that synopsis makes them sound helpless; allow me to clarify. The men and women who lived on Aika only survived to do so because they were the strongest of their kinds; with powers unimaginable. A sense of community and a desire to be with others was the only thing that separated them from the lone, malicious pilgrims who religiously sacrificed planet after planet for whatever desire they had.

To say they were hiding is in itself an understatement; the universe was harsh and all monsters need their lairs, especially the good ones. And rising above all the other warriors of his time was one Kross Genesis - who chose the temptress Mayuki as his bride. His raw power in itself was enough to give him the title of "above all others", or "Hoka no subete no jōki". If it was not for his newborn son, or the fact he had been too late to save his own homeworld, he might have gone out into the galaxy and subjugated those who destroyed it.

So you can imagine, then, why Cain's name became known by almost every living thing left, almost as soon as he had been given it. The attention was overwhelming, and the expectations people had for him unrealistically high.

As soon as he could walk, he was trained to fight. The ruins of near-gone civilizations became his arena, their crumbling cities his playground.

Cain was there due to that unrequited feeling of souls belonging to the supernatural. Creatures of similar kinds always end up forming a clique eventually; an area to come to in relative safety and comfort. He had a feeling he had just found that place again...

He didn't know anyone there, but that wasn't really going to stop him. He made his way into the bar and sat down at a table close to the door, fully aware of what could happen to him in the coming minutes.

Cain Genesis entered quietly, with an expensive looking lighter in his hand which he began to repeatedly flick on and off.

With the lighter still in his hands, the young man sat at the counter and used the flame to warm the skin of his face, as he kept his body cupped over it protectively. Wearing only a pair of jeans and a red t-shirt, he certainly didn't seem to be there to cause trouble.

With a final click, he shut the lighter off and slid it into his pocket with the quickness and fluidity of some sort of street performer.
Now that the bar had some patrons to its name, he decided to look up and examine them. No-one that he knew, which he sort of expected, but there were two girls that seemed to stick out to him: Kyley, who had sat nearby and Anna, who was armed but not actively toying with her potentially deadly weapon, unlike the third person he noticed...

"You shouldn't play with knives," he told Angor.

Cain Genesis grumbled quietly to himself and shuffled further away from Anna. He wasn't a big fan of music, especially in public places on a device he shouldn't have had to listen to.

"Isn't that a bit loud?"

"Thanks," he replied while standing and reaching over for a menu.

Cain took the menu, opened it and sat back down while scanning through the items of food. It wasn't exactly expensive, but it certainly wasn't cheap either... Oh well, he had to eat.

Cain Genesis settled on ordering a pasta salad and an energy drink. After handing the money over to the tiller bot, he turned to face Anna and shrugged apologetically.

As his energy drink can was placed before him, he noticed a new woman entering. This one seemed to be trying to avoid something, but he didn't let it get to him. His imagination could run wild sometimes and he often had to remind himself that she PROBABLY wasn't glancing at the door every few seconds because she was being stalked by a serial killer.

Though, if she was, and knew about it, she must have been pretty tough to take the time to sit in a bar and have a drink. No, she was probably just trying to avoid an annoying suitor, or something equally boring.

"Don't worry, I'll say I haven't seen anyone who looks like you," he whispered from the stool besides her, which he had already occupied.

"Thanks," he said to the serving droid as the mayonnaise coated, pasta-based salad was placed directly in front of him with a cheap plastic fork. That seemed rather cheap, but he could guess why it was necessary to substitute for a disposable.

After all, he cringed at the thought of sharing cutlery with people like the cane-bearing man who had just sat himself down.

He poked his fork into his food and silently began to eat, while glancing occasionally between the woman by his side, the demon and Anna.

"Not particularly," he quickly answered Anna as he noticed the strange man approaching him.

He quickly cleared his throat and composed himself. He didn't want to appear like a good-for-nothing slacker if someone was about to shove violence into his face. A poker face is all he needed, so he put his best one on and turned it to gaze up at Paralysis.

"You look a bit like a thief yourself," was all he could think to say, while pulling his plate away from those disgusting fingernails.

Listening intently, he had to decide how to proceed... And quick. Should he try to get the demon to leave, or just stay quiet and say nothing, and hope that the matter resolved itself?

"Listen, you are unnerving people here, can't you see that? Maybe you should back off a little, before people get instinctual."

"I'm me?" He replied questioningly. "I mean, look at you. You're sickly and broken already, it won't take much for you to become a heap on the ground."

Honestly, Cain wasn't sickened by Paralysis' appearance. It was strange, sure, but without the obvious signs of pain or injury, he saw the demon in similar light to a walking jellyfish. Yes, it was strange, but there was no reason to think of injuries that could cause his own body to behave like that...

"For him, probably," he muttered under his breath. He wasn't usually one to boast, but the man's condition and his hasty retreat certainly caused some confidence boosts in Cain's mind.

"You look ridiculous," he told Anna.

"Armour. I don't believe in it," was all he said. "You put your confidence into something other than yourself. You're not a fighter, that suit is. You're just inside it."

"That's a lot of money," he said with a glance at Lexi. "I don't have any augmentations, or anything like that. I can still probably outperform your suit, though."

The bar was getting busy, he soon noticed... And Zayu was there, apparently with some sort of new dog. He would have greeted her, if he was not so busy in conversation with the other two.

"Why are you apologising? He asked Anna, before turning to the woman at his side.

"Nope," he answered Lexi- "although... You live here, right? I hear Wing City gets quite chaotic. Any chance you can fill me in on what causes it? There has to be some being or organization, right?"

"And oh, her? Yeah, I know her. We knew each other as kids. I don't know about the dog, though."

"No, not really," he answered Anna.

He turned his attention back to Lexi and went quiet for a moment as he processed what she said.. "So basically, there's nothing in particular?" That certainly didn't seem to make sense and it made his purpose a whole lot harder... "Who is he, anyway? Is there a reason he's looking for you?"

Just as he finished speaking, he heard Zayu and shrugged. "Fair enough."

"Then just throw it into the ocean, or give it away to someone who isn't going to be toppled by someone who can only stand around and be scary? Honestly, I'm failing to see why he causes such a problem if, after all, he has no physical form?"

He was sure he saw the man interacting with things... Maybe she meant 'physical' in a different sense?

"Fair enough. I won't press the matter. Damn, my salad's cold," he grumbled while poking a fork into his pasta. "Oh wait, it was served cold. I don't think my mind is in the right place right now. It's getting quite busy, isn't it?"

He took a glance at the suited Marlene and the girl behind the bar.

"Is there a problem?" He asked Tilda.

"Well that was random and unnecessary," he commented on Angor's misdeed as he watched Alix fumble and try to put it out. Oh well, it could have been an explosive device capable of disintegrating the rest of the room. He was happy it wasn't that.

His hand absent-mindedly entered the pocket of his pants and pulled from it his lighter, the one he had despite the fact smoking was unnecessary and unhealthy and he wouldn't touch them. With a flick, the flame appeared above the small metal ring and he held it under his other hand to warm his fingers.

...

"That's Ki, isn't it?" He asked a nearby man, who seemed to be manipulating his glass.

"You could say that," he confirmed, though purposely left out an adjective or description that could give away a level of skill with it. Even his tone of voice was diluted and poker-faced, for the last thing he needed was a man skilled at Ki picking on him for being weak, or challenging him for being strong.

"And no, I'm not from around here."

That was a bit of an understatement. Dimensional travel and time travel had both been involved with his arrival. In truth, he was still a little hazy from it. But, at least he and Zayu had found some measure of shelter in Gambit's Bar.

If she was still as determined to go through with it as he was, then this place would make a fine forward operating base as they searched for the causes of their coming.

Cain Genesis entered, a little more gruffly than usual. He had a healing cut under his left eye and a bruise beneath that, suggesting he had obviously gotten into a scrap at some point in the past twenty four hours.

As he trudged over to the counter, he sat down and grumbled his order: "coke with ice," to the serving droid.

Cain Genesis paused for a moment, holding the ice-cold glass against his bruise. Apparently the bar was either getting robbed, or its patrons arrested by another authority that claimed to hold sway.

"You really don't want to do that," he again grumbled, while rolling the glass across his face and tipping the edge between his lips to sip. "Hello Zayu," he greeted as his drink was placed down on the counter.

"We need to talk after this situation is delt with."
