8th Generation Lasombra vampire. Leader of an experimental pack of Kindred from almost every clan--something never seen before. He manipulates shadow to become invisible to even the most trained eyes. Once you see him, it's already too late.
Beyond all other things, Caleb is confident. He has lived for more centuries than many of us care to count, and he really has forgotten more than we will ever know about the business of defending himself and weilding the powers granted to him by his Lasombra lineage. Very few things are more important to him than his own personal benefit, but the absolute most immediate priority is the safety of anyone he cares for. He is almost obnoxiously intelligent, intentionally sarcastic, and slightly paranoid, but a tactical genius and an illusionary master. Has a tendency toward quasi-emo moments and a minor obsession with pointy objects.
Lasombra is the only vampire clan actually afflicted with the lack of any sort of reflection. As such they tend to have either a positive or negative obsession with mirrors. Caleb is possessed of the positive variety. In his most frequented haven, all but two rooms are laden with mirror-walls, which provides two different things; he can quell his unnatural preoccupation, and it disorients many potential attackers.
Caleb was born in the early 1400's to poor British parents. Exact records weren't kept, and he has long since forgotten the exact date and the names of his family members. At one point in time, he had a sister.
His father left to fight in one of the King's wars. After seven years of bloodshed, he recieved a near-fatal wound and was called home by the king to be knighted. He was killed before he made it back in what amounted to a traffic accident.
Shortly thereafter, his mother and sister both fell ill with an unknown disease that was spreading quickly through their town. For seven months, his mother lay shaking, sweating, starving, and bleeding before she died; his sister had only lasted two.
Caleb was nine.
Smarter and stronger than many his age, he struggled to live on the streets as part of a gang, but the senseless violence and brutality of city gangs was remarkably different from how his parents had taught him to live. He eventually broke off and tried new ways of making his living--through crimes of finesse and subtlety rather than brute force and numbers. He found this to be not only easier on his soul, but better for his pocketbook.
Soon afterward however, all of his well-laid schemes and machinations began to fall around him. Street gangs were becoming smarter and starting to force their way into his grounds. Police were looking in his direction instead of where his plans suggested they look. He was forced again to re-evaluate himself and his methods. He began gathering followers and started a small group of his own. The group of six called themselves KORVa--Kings of River Valley--and Caleb (19) was at their forefront.
For ten years, KORVa pulled strings from the shadows as a spreading, mutating virus, operating much the way Caleb had on his own. Their slow poison seeped into the city, but seemed to be helpiong it grow. Smaller gangs bled out and died while the fuly-established ganglords and crime families diminished slowly, giving ground to the ever-growing KORVa. By the ten year mark, KORVa had over three thousand members and a finger in almost every honey pot in western Europe.
Its leader had the attention of a Lasombra ancillae--a seventh generation vampire most commonly called Dementia. For just over three years, she followed her clans tradition of testing Embrace candidates by tearing apart everything in their lives. Soon, every deal started to go wrong. No matter how carefully they planned, how many angles they saw, how many moves they predicted, their enemy was always one step ahead. It was as almost like someone was hiding in the shadows, spying on the inner circle. The final test came quicker than Caleb could have expected, and shook every thread of his being.
Three of KORVa's original members were captured and torn apart. He watched it happen.
Dementia held him struggling and bound in chains of shadow while his comrades were ripped to pieces in front of him. Time stopped. Darkness faded in around him and from it, she appeared. She offered him a choice: Life or Death. Mindful of the assailants juast outside this darkness, he accepted and was embraced by the arms of the Sabbat. His first meal was the unfortunate men Dementia had selected to kill his comrades.
Since his Embrace, Caleb has worked tirelessly at sharpening the edge of his skills, perfecting the arts of Obtenebration and Obfuscate. The two remaining Lasombra disciplines (Dominate and Potence) have taken a back-burner to the practice of weilding darkness. His skill borders upon perfection, and has only been preceeded by a fourth Generation Lasombra, rumored to have actually transposed himself to the shadow realm, and Lasombra himself, one of Caine's eight 'sons'.
