This was as long as Caroline could physically stay away from the WCPD. A day after the horrors that had gone on inside, she'd tried to get in to help, but no one was allowed in. Now, a couple of days later she was allowed in. Like usual, she brought home made goodies. Corey had joined the force before they'd met. And even after, Caroline was introduced to his family on the force. And ever since then, she'd come bringing baked goods, her children, and other things. This time though, her children stayed at home.

Even after it was announced that Corey and James were missing, Caroline still came with baked goods, lunches, drinks. She knew that everyone was worried about them. And each week she came by, she hoped for news on the best friends. But so far nothing. And with the attack, she knew that many officers had died. But she was here to lend support to the survivors and though it was going to be a horrible job, she hoped to help with the clear up.

She walked inside and saw Alexander, a narcotics officer in the reception area. She felt slightly sick as she saw blood in places, but at least she couldn't see any bodies. Placing the baskets and drinks on the receptionists desk, she smiled over at Alexander, frowning when she caught sight of his bandaged arm.

"Alex! I'm glad to see you!" She pulled what looked like a traumatised officer into her arms for a hug. "Where's Benji?" Alexander was known for loving his dog as much as a man loved his family. If he had lost Benji...

"He's still critical at the vets." Alex frowned watching Caroline for a moment. Truth was, he was traumatised over the attack, but also not long ago he'd found out who was arrested just before it began and why.

"I hope he pulls through. I'm sure he will. I brought a doggy bag for him and the other dogs. You'll have to give it to him once he's better." She smiled, starting to sort through the things she had. "I also have my cleaning stuff in the car so I can help with the clean-up."

"Caroline--"

"Don't Alex, you know I'll help you men out. You were Corey's second family." She spoke.

"I'll go get Thaddeus. It's good to see you again." Alex hugged her once more before leaving to find his superior.

Alex nodded and sighed not sure if he should be around while Thaddeus broke the news to Caroline, but who else would be there. Him and Caroline were friends at least. And this had hit them all hard, and then to have the events that happened kill more of their own... No, he should stay with Thaddeus and at least be there for support for both of them unless the man told him otherwise.

"I'll go down and bring her up here then." He told his boss before leaving.

Five minutes later he was back up with Caroline, letting the woman in. She was hesitant, knowing something was wrong yet hoping that it wasn't what she thought it might be - bad news about Corey and James. Her gut knew that was what was coming, but still she was determined to be the cheerful woman everyone knew her to be. And even as she entered the office, she'd grabbed some of the food that she'd made and a homemade lemonade too.

"I hope you don't mind me coming and helping out, Thaddeus. I couldn't just sit at home though after I heard what had happened. And I'm good at cleaning. Plus, I brought you all home made sandwiches. You get a choice of ham and cheese, or egg and mayo. Plus a cupcake that the girls helped bake. And home made lemonade too." She forced a smile as she placed them on his desk.

Alex quietly closed the door behind him, glancing at Thaddeus and then Caroline. Her thoughtfulness never seized to amaze him. Even as he was downstairs trying to get her to stop cleaning up the blood. It was all about helping them in a time of need. And now it was time to help her through this.

Forcing a smile of his own, Thad's faded all too quickly as he took a deep breath. "I do appreciate it, Caroline. But what I want to talk to you about..."

"It's about Corey. We found Braydon here in Wing City. He's in custody, and..." The big man slowly let out a breath, his calm facade cracking slightly, raw disappointment showing in his eyes, in the deep lines around his mouth. "We've linked him to Corey's murder. I'm so sorry Caroline."

For all his years, all his tough as nails exterior, it tore at the Chief to deliver the news to this woman in particular, and it showed. His folded hands on the table clenched into fists, the desk creaking as he unwittingly exerted downward pressure. His voice was rough and hoarse as he continued. "His remains were positively ID'd with dental records."

As much as it forced his heart to bleed to deliver the news, it set his blood to a fresh boil as he spoke the words aloud to Caroline. Josh had deserved far better than this.

I hope there's a special pit in hell for crooked, treacherous bastards like you, Braydon. I'll see you rot for this.

For all the things Caroline thought she was going to hear, that was not what she expected. Her whole body froze, hands still on the drink as Thaddeus spoke about Corey and James. One dead. One alive. One accused of murder. It took a moment for her brain to catch up and when it did, her feet turned to jelly and it was Alex catching her, helping her take a seat.

Her hands were shaking as she tried to make sense, tried not to cry. Corey was dead. He'd been found. But James... Surely not. Surely there was another explanation.

It took a few moments to gather herself, enough to at least speak. "Are you sure it was James? They're like brothers. I know how dangerous undercover work is... Corey and James told me before going under. They said there were things they could do that would be awful. Maybe James has been set up. That's a possibility, right?" Even now, she was hoping that they were wrong, that it wasn't James.

"They were brothers practically. There has to be a reason for this. James wouldn't..." It was then that she broke down into tears, not even able to finish the sentence as she realised that her husband had died. "H-h-how long ago was it...when Corey... You know...and how?" Caroline wanted to know about her husbands death.

His fist felt like it was going to break, how hard Thaddeus was squeezing it. "The exact timing we're not sure."

"But we mind trawled Bray, Caroline. He was holding the gun that shot Corey, and there wasn't a hesitation. He just checked the gun...and...and..."

Kraggen violently thrust one fist upwards, fully intending to smash it through the desk. With titanic effort, though, he lowered it slowly, anguish in his rough throat as he finished his words. "That bastard shot Corey in cold blood. And I'm going to make him pay for that."

Alex felt awkward and stayed silent, a hand resting only on Caroline's shoulder for comfort if she needed some. And it looked like she needed some as she tried to come to terms with the fact that the man that was her husband's best friend, the man that grew up with her husband had killed him.

"What if he was forced..." She was still trying to find some good in James. She knew James. They had all known him apart from Kraggen and any new officers over the last ten years. Anyone that had known James and Corey this would have come as a total shock. And for the fact that James had been so friendly, funny if a little too cocky and sure of himself - everyone had liked him though. And he was to become a promising undercover officer and officer in the future.

"Caroline, even if someone had me and my partner, and told me to shoot them, I wouldn't." Alex spoke quietly. "He's trained for these situations. There would have been another way out..."

"What if there wasn't? This is James and Corey." Caroline was under the impression that this incident had just happened as well, not that it had actually happened years ago. Once again she broke down in tears.

"Unfortunately, Caroline, that was Braydon's "initiation". Kraggen spat the word, trembling. "Undercovers are trained to get the hell out in that situation. Better had he put the gun to O'Leary's head and blown his fucking head off, and I had to bury two officers, but this?"

Thaddeus shoved back from the desk, his chair rolling to an abrupt halt against the wall as he turned and glared out the window for a few moments to compose himself. Sighing heavily, the bearish man gave a pained look at Caroline.

"This is...murder. There were other options. And James took this one."

If there had been other ways out, Caroline would never forgive James for what he had done. They were best friend and brothers. Corey had trusted James with his life. If James had betrayed that trust then she would hate him for the rest of eternity and he could rot in hell. And if that wasn't the only evil thing he'd done, he'd pay for the rest too.

"I want to talk to James. He'll tell me exactly what happened and what part he had to play in it all. I know he will. I want to know exactly what happened to my husband and if there was any other way out."

She sounded determined through her tears, yet still unwilling to completely believe that one friend had turned on another. That James had murdered Corey. There still had to be another explanation for it, surely. And Caroline wanted the truth from her husband's best friend.

"Maybe seeing him isn't a great idea... He's changed. The truth could really hurt and it doesn't change the fact that Corey died." Alex said quietly.

"I need to see him. He knows exactly what happened in there..."

"He knows, and we know too, having delved into his mind and seen it. But that doesn't change the fact he's still trying to lie through his teeth about it. For god's sake, Caroline, he assaulted a tech and one of the interrogators over it!"

The look Kraggen gave her was hard, but no harder than it had to be. "You'll get to see him, Carol. But not now, and not soon. Give it a few days, a week even. Rushing into things isn't what you need right now."

Rising, Thaddeus moved around the desk, resting a gauntleted hand on the woman's shoulder. "All I ask is to wait a little Carol. Then I'll take you to him myself."

"Alright?"

Caroline nodded at Thaddeus as he told her that she needed to wait. She could do that. Maybe it was for the best. She'd just found out that Corey was gone. That he had died. Since the contact had been lost seven years before, she'd wondered and hoped against all hope that both men were hiding and just waiting to find a way back. But the truth was worse. James had killed Corey. Caroline was still in complete shock about it, but Thaddeus was ready to take Bray down. He was so sure he'd done the crime. They'd mind trawled him. James had killed Corey.

"Okay... I can wait. I have things to do anyway. I need to tell the girls and his family. I should start making funeral arrangements for when his body is released. I can do that, can't I? Arrange his funeral. He deserves to be put to rest properly..."

What had James been thinking? Caroline started to cry at the thought again. Corey was gone. He was betrayed by his best friend. They were all betrayed.

It had been a week since Caroline had been told about Corey's death and Bray's involvement. For the last week she'd split her time between her children, cleaning up the WCPD (despite more than a few protests about it) while continuing to bring officers food, and arranging Corey's funeral. How had things gone so wrong? Both men had been popular and loved. Now this...

The woman was still eager to see Bray though. And she hadn't nagged about seeing him. She knew Thad would let her see him, but after a week she wanted to bring it up again. So putting on her 'everything is fine, I'm happy,' persona, she knocked and entered his office with homemade cookies and lemonade once more.

"Hey Thaddeus. I've come bringing some more goodies for you and the guys before I start helping with the cleaning again. I thought you could do with some. And I was also hoping you could tell me when a good time to see James would be. I don't want to nag, but I'd like the chance to talk to him."

Rubbing his brow as he turned from his paperwork, he searched Caroline's face, sighing heavily at what he saw. He'd promised though, and enough time had passed since he'd delivered the news that the woman seemed collected enough to not be nearly as traumatized. "Alright, Carol, we'll go now. Go to the visitation room, and I'll have James brought to his side before joining you."

"If it gets out of hand, though, it ends when I say it does. Are we clear?" The bearish man eyeballed the woman from behind his desk.

"Thank you. I know you probably don't understand why I want to see him after what he's done, but I need to just do this to put everything to rest and grieve over my husband." She told him, quietly. "I'm clear. If it gets out of hand you can stop it. Thank you though for letting me see him."

With that, Caroline left the room and went to the visitation room to sit and wait for Bray. She wanted his answers about what happened. She knew him. Or had known him once. Hopefully he'd give her the answers she wanted and then he could go and rot in hell.
