Description

Catherine "Cat" Nadya Dumitrescu

Image

"She is considered to be inexperienced, foolish, and ignorant. She has had little mentoring to speak of, if she has, it has obviously has been ignored." ~ Unknown

Height: 5'11"/180cm

Weight: 145lb/65.77kg

Complexion: Fair, smooth. The the sort that easily burns in the sun.

Looks

She could easily be described as statuesque, unearthly, or perhaps fae like. Her health is good, although she is susceptible to the occasional flu or cold virus. This is just a consequence of being not entirely one thing or the other. However, there is also the matter of exhaustion from denial of needs or over extending herself leading to migraines.

Sharply defined, typical Slavic features with what might be considered by some western standards a longish, rectangular, yet refined face. Wide forehead, with striking, lightly colored eyes, and high prominent cheekbones, lower set or rooted nose, and chin. Her features are strong, but refined. Catherine takes no pride in her personal appearance, caring only little for her looks. Her hair is kept long and it's once pale blonde, now white coloring , is a fairly typical eastern European characteristic. Normally she styles her hair down in curls or in single thick braid down her back; occasionally it will be put up in a thick coil at the base of her neck.

Personality
Catherine is fairly reserved, but is also the very type of person that you could begin to feel comfortable around due to her supposed quiet, low key nature. She is not always the most talkative, preferring to keep mostly to herself. A smile from her is a rare event. Her normal facial expression is a fairly limited neutral range, in her line of work a poker face is extremely valuable. She isn’t above killing or harming anyone that stands between her and whatever she sees as a goal. However she isn’t to be considered a serial killer either, but will do what it takes to get what she wants.

Speaking with a slight Romanian accent, Catherine has taken decades to try to eliminate it. It's exceedingly irritating to hear "My Comrade" jokes. The rest she can mostly tolerate.

Collecting Rare and usual books. Catherine has a rather strange fascination with these things, even though they might not be older than her, and the information no longer "current" she still believes that they hold some sort of useful information. Maybe not useful to the typical layman, but to her they've proven useful, or at the very least interesting and entertaining.

Dislikes

The smell of Anise, and Amaretto - There has always been that something about these smells that churns her stomach.
Being considered weak and ineffective - Just because she might not be perfect according to some, doesn't mean she doesn't have her own set of skills to offer.
Bright lights
Loud noises
Vampires/Ever-children - She has found neither of them to be trustworthy, always ready to betray someone or something for their next meal.

History
Catherine's background is a story that appears to be more hearsay than fact, she appears to be a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. However few facts there happen to be, Ms. Dumitrescu appears as capable within many of the roles she ha.

Born outside Bucharest, Romania at the second lifting of the veil between worlds, Catherine was the only living child of her mother, Elisabeta who died shortly after her birth. After her mother's death she was taken in by people who were supposed to be her family, but once they deemed she was old enough to care for herself, they abandoned and washed their hands of her.

World War II eventually found her in Nazi Germany on an assignment with a well known supernatural organization. With valuables being seized right and the rumor of unsavory Nazi dabbling in the Unseen, Catherine managed to insinuate herself in as the girlfriend of an higher ranking officer, and eventually persuaded him to tell her a small piece or two of information. With this information safely tucked away into the corners of her mind, she boded her time, waiting. Her chance came when the Allies invaded Germany, and chaos reigned for a time.

With women fighting for their place in offices having taken roles during the war, and she returned back to Britain, and chanced a job with a local import store, having grown sick of fighting after years of assignments during the war. From there she hopped around doing various odd jobs here and there, never under the same name twice. More recently she was imprisoned against her will in St. Mary's Institute for the Insane, or the supernatural world's highest security facility designed to house insane and criminal supernaturals. It's not entirely clear how she ended up in such a place, but rumor has it that she had been there before, for severe infractions against laws.

Spoiler: show
More recently, she has found herself reluctantly allied with the Dragon Court, a daughter court of the first court in Florence, Italy. Her sire, Grigore, dotes on his daughters, Catherine and her sister Scottlyn, as if to attempt to make up for lost time. He has even gone as far as to elevate his eldest, Catherine, to the position of second only to him in the court. However much to his disappointment, his youngest daughter, has shown little interest in the politics and life within the court.

Specialties and Equipment

One word, Manipulation. But there are other mind magics. The majority of this specialty comes into play by her usage of words, tone of voice, and use of body language; these are benefits of her status as both vampire and a decendent of the first's lineage.

Telekinesis
Catherine possesses extremely extensive and powerful telekinetic abilities, of which she demonstrates excellent control in most situations. However it is usual that she willingly uses them, and on occasion will experience bleed over or slippage if overly tired or stressed. Currently she is bound against extensive use of this and other metaphysical abilities.

Telepathy/Mind
Bound against invading the mind of another, this doesn’t preclude the use of this ability. She is still able to perform basic scrying, only to seek or find a person, and skim the outer surface of thoughts unless shielded.

Other Magics
It is unknown what exactly she is capable of in this category, but it has been demonstrated that the ability may possibly be there, but the exact type still yet to be determined.

Equipment
Glock 29s in 10 mm
Smart phone
One pair of UV or light reactive tinted glasses

Weaknesses
Catherine has a soft spot for children, seeing them as important to the future of any group or race.

Spoiler: show
She also desires so much to be human. She will and has gone to almost length to find a way to get rid of the vampirism that she believes plagues her life. She has a collection of old Grimoires and tomes that she prays holds a clue to what she might call normalcy.

Moderate sunlight intolerance. Burning easily and abhorring having to go out in daylight, not from light but the burn it can bring. It didn't help that she attempted, perhaps rather foolishly to appear as human as possible. Though there were the slight slip ups, with the severe sunburn on a cloudy day when most "normal" people wouldn't burn.

Spoiler: show
Benefits from the Race

Heightened hearing - Have you ever wanted to know what that annoying, idiotic co-worker is saying? Thought so. Catherine has heard it all, from the sneaky underhanded deals to the typical office romances. It gets a bit old after awhile, but it also usually gives her quite a bit of leverage.

Heightened smell - This can at times be a bit… bothersome. Who would want to be able to smell a dumpster or what's been sitting in someone's refrigerator for the past month at fifty paces? But it can also be beneficial in the fact that it allows her to smell someone's cologne, perfume, or changes in body chemistry.

That certain charisma- You could say she's a master manipulator, you could also say that she has learned to read body language very well. She knows how to play the game, but can also grow bored easily.

Augmented sight - Able to see in near to total darkness, much like a cat this can come in handy in tight spots. But it comes with a trade off. Daylight is uncomfortable, and so are what would be considered normal light levels for many people.

Augmented strength - It's not the best idea to ambush her in a bar, club or other social setting. You'd more than likely get something broken. This has on more than one occasion led to the charges of assault, attempted murder, you name it.

Psychic talents - While this may seem beneficial, it is a dual edged sword. Talented at both telepathy and telekinesis, she is to be considered extremely powerful and dangerous. The Council of the Unseen world has bound her against the majority of the use of these powers.

Weaknesses from the Race

The desire for blood and the constant battle against another half to try and resist the urges. This can lead to lack of concentration and a veritable plague of ADHD symptoms. Until the problem is resolved, she can be useless.

Intolerance of Sunlight, the allergy is moderate, but it is ever present and aggravating making life difficult. A high level SPF is not always the solution, covering up is useful, but who wants to bake or look like a Eskimo even on the hottest days of the year?

Immortality/Longevity is nice, but you try finding a new identity every 65 to 70 years or so. Then coming up with ways to fake the death certificates and cemetery records. Sure everyone says they want to live forever, but are they really aware of the consequences?

Social standing
In her personal life she is neither feared or hated; preferring to keep mostly to herself, she does however have a few friends here or there. Catherine is something of a introvert and not exactly the social butterfly. In her professional life, she is well respected, but not always so much by other co-workers. In many ways she has used the rumor mill to both her advantage, and disadvantage.

Catherine Dumitrescu did not normally frequent bars or even portions of what she might call the seedy underground, but sadly this time it was deemed necessary for the current investigation. Pushing open the door to the bar, her senses were assaulted with various scents and noises. "Ugh, this is the reason I avoid these damned places." Catherine muttered to herself as she quickly regained control of herself. It was all very overwhelming. Taking a seat at the bar, she put in an order for a glass of wine. This time drinking on duty could possibly be allowed, it was part of fitting into the setting.

Catherine Dumitrescu looked over towards Talon and returned the nod quietly. Picking up her glass of wine from the bar, she approached the table at which he sat before speaking, "Would you mind terribly if I joined you?" She asked noting the seven empty mugs of beer around his person most likely drunken over the course of a night, but she could be wrong. He did seem a bit inebriated or at least throughly enjoying his money's worth of beer. When she thought about it a quote that said. "Beer is proof that god loves us." came to mind, though wether or not any of this was true could be considered debatable.

Catherine Dumitrescu raised an eyebrow at Talon's remark before taking a seat. "That would generally be a woman's response not one of a man." She commented blithely as she set her glass down on the table. She said little of the pill he took, after all she wasn't exactly a cop. "People take all sorts of phrases, quotes and things they find amusing and place them on objects. It's been done for millennia." Catherine shrugged. The alcohol seemed to be going to the man's head quickly enough, if not already having affected it in some way.

Catherine Dumitrescu smirked slightly at his remark. "You mean like your night of half a dozen beers or so?" she pointed out. She'd been raised with the bars and taverns as social places, not necessarily these places of simply getting drunk because you could. "People have told me that for years, but my nature is what it is." Catherine replied as she took a sip of her wine. She knew better than to allow herself to relax and let go, it never went well.

Catherine Dumitrescu nodded towards the dog surprised that it hadn't taken immediate dislike to her. "Catherine Dumitrescu, a pleasure to meet you Mr. Gillet." She remarked wondering if he was always this much of an ass, as she extended a hand across the table. Despite his attempts to be sour or off putting, she would remain polite and somewhat pleasant.

Catherine Dumitrescu thought for a moment as she withdrew her hand. When asked what she did for a living it difficult to answer the question properly. "You'd be surprised actually. I work for a international investigative agency, which contrary to what you would like to think requires people to use their brains." Catherine couldn't quite resist the opportunity to be somewhat snide and just a tiny bit rude. It was just that she hated having to answer such a question, it wasn't polite not to. It would have helped had the council given her and others ways to respond to it and similar questions.

Catherine Dumitrescu nodded slightly. She wondered if he was referring to himself or others, but otherwise she kept silent on that aspect. "Fun? Err.. I don't have much time for it. I usually try to kill a few hours at the range trap shooting." Catherine knew how much time was spent devoted to her work, and how much the council didn't appreciate it. The people who did mattered most, her friends, nephew and father. All were part of the world in which she so carefully hid from the general public.

Catherine Dumitrescu glanced down at the sound of wheels crossing the hard floor of the bar, then up towards Talon. "What exactly is it that you yourself do? It seems that you have seem to have some means, no offense." She replied looking to her empty glass of wine and debating on ordering another, only to decide against it.

Catherine Dumitrescu shook her head at this. "I'm sorry that's unfortunate, but if your truly as handy as you say I might have a position for you to consider. The agency I work for is constantly looking for people, few questions asked." She said placing a card on the table for Talon to either take or leave. As one of the higher ups within MCU she could make invitations to people to join. As soon as the piece of paper hit the table, her phone buzzed within it's holster at her side. Moving her jacket, a badge and side arm was revealed, as well as the phone in the holster. "I'm sorry I need to leave. It was a pleasure talking with you." Catherine said once she'd read the message on the phone. With that she stood from her seat and left the bar.

Catherine Dumitrescu had never adapted well to life on Langara. It just wasn't right, the people just weren't right, and it constantly irked her to have to report to someone like the LDA. They weren't necessarily for the protection and prevention of things magical or mythical; they wanted the all out eradication of all things magical, mythical, paranormal and their ilk. "Director Angel you wanted me to meet with you...?" A woman of roughly slavic looking descent asked as she entered the room approaching the two. She possessed the sharp, angular features of some of the slavs, but in a way they were also refined and gentled. Dressed in a navy pinstriped pantsuit and white blouse, she didn't have to adhear to the LDA uniforms.

Catherine Dumitrescu frowned at the mention of such lax security procedures. "It's Du-mit-tres-cue Director…" She said tiredly. Normally she wasn't even awake at this time of day and was holding fond thoughts in relation to her bed, and sleep. "You let a man flee from prison and be at large for over a month without a formal report? Is there something you'd like to tell us, that you may have some personal feelings for this man that are impairing your judgement and duty Ms. Ziedins?" Catherine questioned patiently enough. She wasn't the type to yell, but could be very curt and short when it came to it. This was already going to become a touchy situation thanks to Marlene and her hot headed ways of managing people. "No one has insulted your intelligence, it's just very strange to have a prison escape without a formal reports. Especially a month after the fact and it's worrisome."

Catherine Dumitrescu nodded understandingly. The LDA had always been slow on the uptake, and rather incompetent if you were to ask her, but she'd never say such to anyone's face. "Now if you two would kindly break up your tiny squabble we can get down to business. A wand is the same thing a phasor is to you Director Angel, a tool." Catherine explained stepping the between the two, and trying to mediate between the two parties. The sooner this was done, the sooner she could go home and sleep.

Glancing back over at Ayasha, she could tell that she was disoriented and possibly stressed. Unfortunately there was little Catherine could do about it. She also seemed to be exceptionally good at broadcasting most every emotion, thought and feeling like most humans. The room was steeped in fatigue and tension.

Catherine Dumitrescu looked at Ayasha for a moment, something didn't seem right with the woman. She seemed distracted almost, and very distant. "Are you alright Ms. Ziedins?" She asked more concerned with the mental health of her new operative than anything else. Catherine was the kinda of woman who realized that their job could become very taxing, difficult, and that you could easily build up any sort of relationship with someone you worked with in the field. It appeared that Ayasha had done just this, and it was getting the better of her. An operative without a fairly clean mental bill of health wasn't much use to her or anyone else.

Catherine Dumitrescu nodded slightly. The next few months were going to be difficult for all parties involved. "Well, if you no longer hold whatever feelings you have for Mr. Fields then I suggest we get started on tracking him down." She remarked blithely. Catherine just wanted to get the job done, it was Ayasha's problem in the long run to sort out things with Cameron. She could offer advice, but the choice of what to do wasn't hers to make. As long as Ayasha's personal life didn't begin to affect her job things would be fine.

Catherine Dumitrescu said little for the moment as she took a glance at the time on her watch. Yawning it looked like she would be up for some time still. "I swear no common courtesy for those of us who run on a different schedual." She muttered under her breath. It also didn't help that the whole situation had nearly errupted into a fight then and there. Though in all honestly, Catherine was betting on the wand instead of the phasor. "For now yes, I suppose it is." Catherine finally said stiffling another yawn.

Catherine Dumitrescu smiled wanly at George clasping his hand firmly in her own rather cold one. "Good afternoon George." She spoke carefully. These people were much worse than the council in Stockholm, and more incompetent. But as long as she was stuck here on Lanagara she would try to make the best of it. So far the LDA had been bluffed into thinking her no more dangerous than a human with exceptional talents, she would like to keep it that way too.

Catherine Dumitrescu frowned at Ayasha again. "I realize that you have had little or no sleep Director Ziedins but now is not the time to be staring off into space." She remarked frowning. Today was not going to be Ayasha's day to make a good impression that was certain. Catherine longed to see what was plaguing this woman, even if it was just with the excuse of promoting mental stability.

Catherine Dumitrescu shook her head at George's bluff, one that caused Ayasha to consider coming unglued. "Nice bluff, but those things don't really work all that well do they?" She remarked watching the other woman stalk off down the hall to sulk in her office. Catherine had her work cut out for her, and there would be no way she'd ever get Ayasha to trust her even as a colleague. The poor woman was as delusional as they came.

Catherine Dumitrescu nodding slightly filing away what George told her for future use. "Most people who work here are stressed and or agitated, I think you just pushed her over the edge to test your new toys." She remarked as she went off to find Ayasha. Catherine wasn't used to having operatives or rather agents that were so high strung or like Ayasha period. MCU had mostly used the paranormal and magical to enforce or fight back it's own kind. The Stockholm Council's idea had been fighting fire with fire, but the LDA hadn't quite figured the finer points of things out yet. "Ms. Ziedins? Ayasha?" Catherine asked knocking on the door before attempting to push it inwards only to find it wasn't moving. It seemed that her newest agent had effectively barricaded herself into her office. Things were getting off to a wonderful start.

Catherine Dumitrescu frowned once again as she stepped into the office. "Next time, a bit of warning other than a run off alright?" She asked seeing that she was probably going to have her hands full. Ayasha seemed to think that she could do whatever without prior notice, and that irritated Catherine who tried at least to pay attention to protocol. But, from what she could tell Ayasha was soft; emotionally and maybe mentally. She certainly didn't do well at creating distance or a wall between her and her work. "We are going to be working on a few things within the next couple of weeks, both with you and your case assignments."
