Catherine Volter

Age: 43
Race: Shapeshifter
Significant Relations: None, as of yet.

Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 138lbs
Overall Appearance: As Catherine adopts her form such as she wants it at any given time, it is only natural that she would choose a highly attractive one. With a perfect figure, and ample chest alongside beautiful wavy locks of brown hair and lilac eyes, one would be forgiven for thinking her a little too perfect, and calling her Mary. However, it is only logical, as stated above. Catherine is pale, and wears only a little makeup, as she has little need of it. Her garb is fine and elegant, usually consisting of dresses and gowns, as she has a fondness for the theatrical and extravagant.

Personality: Generally amiable, Catherine enjoys a good conversation, however some find her terse and often biting wit unpleasant. She often feels need to comment on others affairs, and has few in the way of boundaries, be they moral, social or physical. Once you get her talking, Catherine is pleasant company, but while she is bored she is likely to cut at you with her sharp tongue till she provokes some form of entertaining result. With no temper to speak of, it takes a lot to rile her, but one thing she cannot stand is racial discrimination. Call it a pet peeve. All that said, Catherine is an artist when it comes to deception and playing a part. Persuasive, thorough and smooth, she sells her identities like a professional marketer for lies.

Skills and Talents:
  • Quite the artist.
  • Sensitive to magical energies.
  • Capable with most forms of musical instrument, including her own voice.
  • Very good at talking people into the floor, or up from it, depending on need.

Abilities:
  • Shapeshifting: Catherine can alter her body physically.

    Equipment:
    • General accoutrements that a woman is likely to carry, including keys, makeup, money and etc. - nothing particularly special.

Background: Catherine is a shapeshifter, born to shapeshifter parents and raised with a full understanding of the extent of her abilities. To be developed.

So begins...

Catherine Volter pushed the door of the bar open, and walked inside. The woman moved with a grace uncharacteristic of most humans, her steps placed carefully and thoughtfully (or at least seemingly so, she did not slow to consider them, they merely fell in a naturally elegant manner) as she walked, heels tapping lightly on the wooden flooring. She was clad in a dress more befitting a ball from a fairytale than a crowded and often rowdy bar such as this, and the smooth silky purple fabric trailed along the floor behind her - miraculously picking up none of the grime that coated it from this patron's soiled boots, or that patron's vomit.

The woman herself was beautiful, in the true meaning of the word, her form highly pleasing to the eye, inviting beholders to gaze up and down her well shaped body, lingering on the exposed flesh of her upper chest and arms, as well as the ample amount of leg that showed through a slash in her dress.

The woman approached the counter quietly, and ordered a glass of red wine.

Catherine Volter [color=purple]smiled to the bartender, her rosy red lips pursing before she spoke, her voice as elegant and flowing as her appearance. One might get the sneaking suspicion that all was not as it seemed about this seemingly perfect being, perhaps a little too well rounded, too blessed in all aspects of her self. A sparkling diamond in the rough of Gambit's, Catherine paid those around her little heed.

"Fetch me a glass of your finest red, bartender, if you would be so kind. You may leave the bottle, I intend to remain a while."

As the bartender set about preparing Catherine's drink, she finally turned her attention to her surroundings. Though one might have thought she would be less than pleased with the company she found herself in, instead a smile found its way to her features.

"This seems to be an... interesting establishment." she murmured to nobody in particular, though her words caught the ear of the bartender as he approached from behind with her drink.

"That it be, ma'am. You don't know the half of it."[/color

Catherine Volter raised her eyebrows at the bartender's words, turning to accept the glass he held out for her, filed and varnished purple nails brushing against the glass as she wrapped her fingers around its stem and brought it down to rest upon the surface before her.

"Do elaborate, sir, on just what makes this place quite so... stand-out." she requested, chuckling.

The bartender laughed heartily "Where to begin, eh? We get all sorts here, seems more like a menagerie than a bar at times. I don't rightly care whether what I'm serving 'ave fingers, claws or even blummin' tentacles so long as they got the dough to pay up. We get our fair share o' scuffles too, it's a naturally volatile atmosphere."

Catherine brought the glass to her lips while the tender was speaking, letting the red liquid drain down her throat before she replied. "I would imagine so. Plenty of tension between races such as those that are directly opposed. Though I do not agree with their reasons, I know that they exist."

Catherine Volter sighed lightly. "It does distress me, how an entire race of peoples can hate an entire other, making judgements based not on individual demeanour, but rather the nature of their form." she said, tutting. "It is a detestable world that you... pardon, we, live in."

The bartender grunted, "Can't rightly say that's the only reason for conflict in here, ma'am. Some folk come here just to cause trouble, some folk have grudges and conflicts that stretch far beyond our walls, and they end up coming 'ere to fight 'em out." he said, shrugging.

Catherine tutted once again, "Such mindless idiocy, violence is. I detest it myself, 'tis naught but a last resort when all avenues of negotiation and persuasion have been exhausted." she said, shaking her head. As she gazed about the bar, the woman's eyes fell upon Tatsuma Roroku, and a kind smile found its way to her features as she observed his nervous demeanour.

Catherine Volter smiled to Tatsuma reassuringly. "Worry not, little one." she said, raising her voice slightly that the young boy might hear her. "I do not intend you harm, I merely found you worthy of a smile."

The woman chuckled, adjusting her dress about her legs, "What gives you cause to be so nervous, little one? Why are you afraid?"

Catherine Volter laughed lightly, but not unkindly, a melodious and musical sound. "My dear child, you need not worry, I am not human. I have none of their petty dislike for the abnormal, the different. You seem like a perfectly nice boy." she said, smiling.

"Come over here, little one, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Catherine, you have likely not heard of my people, but on the offchance you have, I am an Amaranthian. I have merely assumed human form so as not to alarm the denizens of this reality, though by your reaction, it seems it is not an entirely foolproof plan." she continued, chuckling. "What is your name, might I ask?"

Catherine Volter frowned, the expression marring her pretty features for a moment, wrinkling up the smooth skin of her forehead. "A monster? This name, was it attached to you by humans, Tatsu?" she queried, already suspecting the answer. "You do not have to be a monster if you do not wish to be, I am sure there are any number of names you could choose for yourself." she said.

Catherine adjusted her hair, tutting. "Humanity feels a need to label all that is different with the term monster, alien or similar. It's pitiable, really, though I feel no pity for them - more for the poor souls such as yourself that feel the brunt of their ignorance."

Catherine Volter shook her head, her wavy locks brushing back and forth over her shoulders as she did so, a slight sigh escaping her rosy lips. "Very well, little one, if it is what you prefer. You need not adhere by the labels others give you, mind - simply because someone calls you a monster does not make you one, insofar as heart and soul goes." she said gently, before pausing and laughing. "Dear me, I'm sounding like a bad cliché. My point does stand, though."

The woman once again brought a dainty hand down to settle the wrinkles that had formed in her dress, straightening it and ensuring it did not fold in a manner that would produce creases. She moved the glass of wine to her lips and drank briefly, before once again speaking to Tatsu.

"So, little Tatsu, how do you spend your days?"

Catherine Volter glanced over to the hammock indicated, and raised her brow. "And you prefer that to a bed? Goodness. I hear you can get mattresses that shape around you when you lie on them, but I doubt that many hotels or the like would possess them." she said, tapping her fingers ponderously.

"Do you get by well, little Tatsu? Plenty of food, drink, and the like?" she asked, before Xanatos' actions caused the poor boy to become unbalanced.

Letting out an irate gasp, Catherine's hand went out to carefully steady him, ensuring that he would not fall, her gentle hand resting on his arm. Once the boy's stability was assured, she raised her eyes to Xanatos.

"Watch where you place your feet, sir." she uttered, more than a little irritably.

Catherine Volter decided to make a point of ignoring the undertones to Xanatos' words, and smiled, the expression further serving to enhance her already beautiful features. "Why thank you for your considerate apology, and concern for the boy." she said simply. "Many strangers would not care so much as to offer a second glance."

Turning then away from Xanatos, Catherine returned her attention to Tatsuma. "Well, that is good, little one. I would not like to think you are lacking in your basic needs. Do you have many friends, or attend any sort of school, or similar?"

Catherine Volter raised an eyebrow "Is this a ritual generally performed within your people, or family? I seem to remember it was a common feature amongst civilisations at one point, though the exact period escapes me." she said idly.

"And I must say," she continued, "That is a rather interesting array of companions. Well, I hope that you can count me as one of your friends." she added, before Xanatos once again interfered.

Catherine's gaze rose to the man, steely and harsh. "Is there some purpose to your implications, sir, or are you merely trying to provoke a reaction?"

Catherine Volter laughed out suddenly and melodiously, tossing her hair and placing one hand over her mouth. Her laughter stopped abruptly, however, cut off sharply, making it clear she was by no definition of the word, 'amused'. "Seriously." she said, slowly rising from her seat to place a finger on the man's chest.

"Why don't you leave the poor child out of this, hm? I'm sure that between us we can work out an amiable alternative of sorts..." she murmured, the woman's perfectly proportioned figure more evident now she was standing, her long and flowing dress trailing on the floor at her feet, while leaving the entirety of her arms and upper chest exposed. To any normal human male, Catherine was incredibly attractive. She'd made sure of this, and had thousands of years to adapt to changes in general taste.

Smiling, the woman awaited Xanatos' response.

Catherine Volter chuckled, "I'm entirely open to suggestions." she murmured, stepping forwards and slightly to the side to put herself between Tatsuma and Xanatos, while also closing the distance between her and the man so that she was pressed up against him, smiling suggestively.

"Perhaps an initial offer, just to get your appetite working, could be a simple kiss." she offered. "Anything less suitable for dear Tatsu's ears might be discussed at a more private location, then." she continued, smiling as she brought one hand up to tease at the top of the man's shirt.

"How does that sound to you, hmm..?"

Catherine Volter smiled again, pursing her rosy lips together in seeming thought. "Hmm, I couldn't possibly be so bold as to tell you where, perhaps you would want to suggest somewhere? Myself, I find that the rooms upstairs are often unoccupied... we might find ourselves one of them for further discussion."

The woman's eyes flickered to Tatsuma. "But perhaps a more immediate trade might be made, a kiss for you to release the boy from your grip, anything else to ensure a lack of further harassment..."

Catherine Volter would have grimaced at the maltreatment this man was giving toward poor Tatsu, had she not the mastery of her expression that she did. Instead, she simply licked her lips invitingly as she continued to smile, placing her own hand on the man's side.

"Catherine, sir. Catherine Volter."

Catherine Volter barely blinked as she was pulled around into the kiss, pushing into it forcefully. The fire that impacted with her back was painful, but the Amaranthian was just that, Amaranthine, there was little that could do her serious harm. Her form rippled where the fire hit, but showed no serious burns for it.

Now, however, she was able to proceed with her plan. While the kiss was still in progress, liplocked, Catherine sent forth from her mouth an insidious poison, a dark shadow that seeped from her own mouth into that of Xanatos, with the intent of reaching down into his internal organs and seizing them, killing them slowly. The cloud of poison was fast, and almost its entirety would pass from her to him in the space of time it took for her to lean back from the kiss, and smile.

"Oops..."

Catherine Volter stepped backwards with disgust, placing herself between Xanatos and Tatsuma once again. She was highly irritated that her poison had failed, but she did not show it obviously upon her features. "I think perhaps negotiations end here." she said calmly.

"I will leave you to deal with your assailant, sir." she said curtly, turning away from the man to help Tatsuma to his feet, and lead him away from Xanatsu.

"Are you alright, dear?" she asked anxiously.

Catherine Volter shook her head reassuringly. "Do not worry yourself, little one, if the worst comes to the worst, I will protect you. I detest violence, however, and so long as he does not further his assault against us, we may leave him be." she said, before glancing at Maelik.

"My name is Catherine, I am merely a concerned bystander." she said, "I cannot abide seeing a child abused."

Catherine Volter tutted. "Be that as it may, dear, it would be best not to involve ourselves further in the man's affairs. We can remain here, of course, but let us stay away from him, hm?" she said.

Looking to Maelik, the woman raised an eyebrow. "I am not a demon, you know. I am Amaranthian. We're the 'next door down' from hell as far as planes of existence go. There's often confusion about it."

Sighing now, however, Catherine straightened. "I am afraid that it is getting late, little Tetsu, and I really ought to be leaving." she said, "I shall speak to you another time. Stay away from that man, you hear?"

Catherine Volter pushed open the door of the bar, and walked inside. It was immediately apparent, as the woman practically glided across the floor, that she was not your average bar patron. She moved with a grace uncharacteristic of most patrons, each step seeming carefully placed and considered (though it was plain they required no such consideration, they fell just as quickly as any other, simply possessing a natural elegance), the heels of her shoes clicking on the wood rhythmically.

The woman was clothed far more grandly than most would consider appropriate for a bar, a long silk dress of fine violet trailed about her ankles, drawing attention both to her well proportioned figure, and the ample amount of exposed flesh upon her arms and upper chest. The woman was beautiful, in the true sense of the word - it was only to be expected, she had had thousands of years to perfect her appearance so as to suit the modern idea of the 'perfect' woman.

Catherine approached the bar counter, and ordered a glass of red.
