a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Chorcon

Description

Chorcon had a slim, humanly shape, however small, and was never seen without his robes. The hood was always covering his pitch black hair, and most of his face. Gloves too, was part of his everyday kit. The boots, although they have a funny shape, could just as well have been glued on, for he never took these ones off either. Chorcon did appear a little shy, however not to the point were it became problematic. He was probably just a man (?) of few words.

His robe was dark red with black details, just as black as his shoulder long hair. The gloves and boots were made of black leather, and the boots were fitted with small golden details. They also seemed a bit harder than what you would expect, almost like they were fitted with a solid piece of rock.
For the robes to better suit Chorcons figure, he would normally don a piece of coarse rope around his waist. The rope was also where he'd normally carry his thick, old looking book, if he wasn't reading in it.

So begins...

It was early morning, and the little city of Windcrest seemed to be sleeping. The wind blew fiercly from the great waters, banging on the main gates. By chance, a small raft had followed the wind just here this morning. In the raft a small, slim figure.

Chorcon woke up as the raft collided with a rock along the shore line close to the gates. It was very cold this day, and a wonder that the waters were not frozen, Chorcon thought to himself. Grabbing his thick fur, wrapping it around himself, Chorcon stepped out of the raft and proceeded towards the gates.

Having been on the tiny raft for three days, maybe four, Chorcon was starving. He was cold, thirsty and tired. He knew nothing of this world, and where he would end up had been a mystery up until now. Seeing a city before him was good news, he thought, 'Surely they will have an inn here, where I can get some food and rest.

As he approached the gates, he realized that they would probably be closed. What good would these doors be, if they weren't locked?

Chorcon froze. He stood entirely still. Thinking he saw a silhouette near the gate, he was trying not to be seen.

Was it too late?

Perhaps not too late, but a bit early. The guards were changing shift at that time in the morning, though they were manning the walls, and were not watching the gate strictly. People were allowed to come and go freely, and so one young lady did.

Speaking to one of the guards who was just coming on shift was a rosy-cheeked girl with black hair in a braid so long that the tail of it rested by her hip. She was dressed heavily in furs, but they were slightly rugged, a characteristic of a woman who wasn't rich, but could afford something of decent, working quality. In her hands she carried a basket with a cloth drawn over the top. She waved to the guard and indicated the docs, coincidentally pointing in Chorcon's direction with no knowledge of his presence, and began to head off the same way.

'What sort of place is this?' Chorcon thought, 'Assigning women to lead the guards?'. Perhaps she was only a scout? In his uncertainty, Chorcon felt his tired body beginning to play up. His blood was boiling.

After having been possessed by that demon a while ago, Chorcon could still sometimes loose control to his instincts. At several occations had he seriously injured those around him when scared or angry. Once it even turned out fatal. He was still working on getting this under control, and felt he was getting better at it; now though, he was just too tired.

'This .. I can't let this happen'. He pulled himself together and the boiling blood began to settle down, however slowly. Chorcon did not remember a lot from before he was possessed. Back when he was entirely human. He remembered what was elementary, like how to speek, and his family. He also remembered that they came from a relatively poor family, and that he was craving power. Any power. Monetary, political, magical. Anything to imporve upon his own situation. Now he had it. Terrible powers resided inside him. Had he only known how to control it. For now it seemed only to do its own bidding, and only in anger or when scared. Now, where's the fun in that?

The boiling had calmed, and he decided to approach the woman. The scout. Maybe she wasn't even that, he thought. She did not look to be very well suited for combat or guarding duties, at least not according to Chorcons standards. Ever since Chorcon was freed from the demon's grasp, he'd wanted to avoid people - he'd wanted to hide. He looked like an abdomination. He was sure people would be scared and run, or even attack. But now, in the heat of the moment, he decided to make contact. The girl seemed to have spottet him anyway. Better not seem hostile.

He approached her.

The woman had turned back to wave at one of the guards just as Chorcon approached her. When she looked back, the wide smile that had been on her face vanished instantly and she jumped slightly. She placed one hand over her heart in a relieved breath.

"Gods above, you startled me," she chuckled. "What're you doing out here so early? Or did you just come in? I don't recognize you, but you're a bit bundled up!" She gave him a soft smile.

"I .. uhm .. ". He paused." Chorcon was out of training. What did one usually say to strangers like this? "I assure you, it was not my intention to frighten you." He tried to man up, and took a deep breath. "Bheeeeee ... I am Chorcon. I have been drifting on the great waters for several days, I am not sure how many. I ...". He paused again, briefly. "I don't suppose you know where I can find some food, do you? I have not eaten properly since ... It's been a long while." He did not want to talk about where he had previously been. He hoped she would not ask.

"Oh, my, that's awful! Here, come with me. I can carry you to an inn, where you can get yourself situated. Come on, come on!" She beckoned for him to follow, hurrying off. "My goodness it must have been hard at sea without anything to eat. You had no one else with you?" she asked, looking out toward the docks. "Here, we welcome strangers, so try not to worry. We get travelers here and there."

"I've made a habit of traveling alone" he replied. "And, thank you. I -". He stuttered. "I am not used to your welcoming kindness. Thanks again."

He followed the woman, still trying to get the hang of the art of socializing. "May I ask your name, kind madam?" he said while rushing after her, trying to hide how exhausted he was. He did not want to display weakness. What if it was all a game, and she would ambush him at the first sign of inferiority?

"We haven't any reason to turn you away!" she chimed, walking off into the gates. She headed toward an inn that she knew well. "Myself? My name is Nerea. Yours was Chorcon, right?" She came up to the inn, the sign caked in snow and ice. Nerea shook her head at it and used one hand to open the door for Chorcon and hold it there for him. Warmth rushed out of the door in a fierce wind to greet them both. "Go on. No one's gonna bite."

The first room to greet them was both the desk and, just beyond it, a dining area with the kitchens just beyond a wooden door. Flames roared from a massive fireplace in the corner, appropriately sized for the weather outside and largeness of the room. There was someone dozing at the desk; a large, red-bearded man with a pot belly, and at the tables there was a thin, dark-skinned lady about Nerea's age nursing a bowl of steaming food.

Chorcon silently enjoyed the warmth for a moment before replying. "Nerea. How suiting. A beautiful name for a beautiful girl." He decided that had she wanted to cause trouble, she would have had her chance more than once already. It was time to lower the guard. "And Chorcon, yes, that is correct."

The inn had a smell of burning wood combined with sweaty man. An odor just one bit more comfortable than you would think.

Spellbound by the blazing fire in the fireplace, not able to take his eyes off of it, Chorcon continued "So, Nerea, are you from around here? And would you like to find a place to sit down for a moment?"

“No! No, I am from a ways away. I came here more than a year ago to live. I’m rather fond of the mountains.” She took him to a table, patting her hand down onto it. “Have a seat. I’ll sit with you in just a moment. I assume you haven’t gotten so distracted by our chat that you’ve forgotten your hunger!”

Just as she intended to move toward the counter, the room, the hotel, began to shake. A great blast of sound had Nerea’s hands clasped over her ears and stopping in her tracks. There was a pause once the sound died down. She eventually found herself trotting over to the window. Her mouth dropped.

“What in all the thousand worlds… a ship? Why’s there a ship here?”
