Ciel is quiet and respectful, as well as a hard worker. Because of this, a few of the vampires have befriended him despite his forbidden heritage. Though he shows little emotion, he is inwardly passionate and secretly holds a grudge against the coven because they destroyed his life six years ago. He appears shy, speaking only a few words at a time to his master and most others. However, to his few "friends," he is somewhat outgoing. With them he is able to show his intelligence and sense of humor.
The child of a forbidden union between a human and a vampire, Ciel was born an outcast and an abomination. His father, who was a vampire of high rank, disowned Ciel as a baby to protect his own reputation among the other nobles. Fearing for her lowly and abandoned child, the mother took Ciel far away and raised him by herself in a poor village, all the while praying that he would inherit no vampiric traits from the father. As he grew, the only characteristic of vampires that surfaced was his beauty, and his long dark hair, pale skin, and topaz eyes were admired by all.
When Ciel was 12, vampires raided his village to feed. His mother was killed, but his strange appearance aroused the curiosity of the vampires, who kidnapped him and brought him to the coven's leader for examination. It was not long before his identity as a half-vampire was discovered, and after some deliberation by the vampire council, Ciel was made a slave. Since then, he has continued to serve the very coven of vampires who killed his mother and friends.
