The bar was almost entirely deserted as Cináed pushed the door open and stepped inside. Amber eyes crossed the room with curiosity, taking in the reinforced walls and the high-tech ordering system. The young man made his way through the room towards the counter, keeping an eye out for a bartender or customer or ... someone.

He sighed. "I heard that this place was always buzzing with danger and shenanigans, but I find this?" he said to nobody in particular, before kicking a chair leg lightly and exclaiming "Boring!"

Cináed glanced at the new arrivals, eyes flicking between the two of them and taking in their animalistic appearances. He glanced backwards and forwards several times, opening his mouth as though to speak more than once, but halting.

Eventually, he lifted a hand, tapping his chin and frowning. "Am I in a Disney movie, or just the wrong type of bar?" he asked, leaning back on the counter. "No offence. I just haven't met many animal-people yet, and now two turn up at once. Hi!" The teenager smiled brightly, "I'm new in town, are you two from around here?"

Cináed nodded, "I've heard things like that about this place already, I was frankly disappointed when it turned out to be so empty." he replied to Saum, shrugging. "I can take good enough care of myself, I reckon."

The blonde boy grinned, looking back to the rabbit. He wondered idly whether it was strange that the rabbit and the wolf were getting along, but decided that in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't that strange. "A pleasure to meet you too!" he replied, returning the bow - though it was obvious he didn't make a habit of it. He found it quite quaint though. "My name is Cináed, how about you?" He looked up at Saum, "And you?"

Cináed smiled, taking Saum's hand and shaking it. It was an odd feeling, shaking the furry hand - like shaking hands with someone with particularly rough gloves. "I'm just a kid from a few cities away," he said with a grin and a shrug, "No mysterious places or kingdoms or that sort of lark."

He laughed, "Not quite ordinary, but you know. I'm human, mostly... probably. As far as I know."

Cináed smiled, "Here, let me get that for you little guy," he said, leaning across to deftly tap the screen a few times, taking note of what the rabbit had been trying to order. "They must make these for human hands, I suppose," he said, shrugging as he finished the order off.

Sitting himself on a bar stool, Cináed nodded his head. "I'm new to a lot of things here, Wing City certainly seems a lot more advanced than where I'm from, but I'm picking things up. I'm good at that."

"I'm curious too," Cináed said, swinging his legs to and fro under the stool, "It sounds like a dreadfully ominous name, and by the way you talk about them, I'm guessing they aren't friendly."

Cináed wrinkled his nose, "Oh, the church, it would be the church wouldn't it?" The young man rolled his eyes, "They are rather fond of condemning things for no explicable reason."

He shrugged, "I imagine it's a power thing. Human minds are predictable like that."

"Well..." Cináed coughed awkwardly. "I suppose that explains it, then."

The boy bit his lip. "Ah... yeah. I have to give that one to the Church, friend. Sounds like you were rather ... abominable, if you'll forgive me for saying so."

Cináed winced, "Sounds like there's a lot of history there," he remarked carefully, choosing his words to ensure he didn't say anything insensitive. "I'm certainly glad you've become wiser. I hope you can atone for your former actions through how you live now."

Deep words for a seventeen year old, but Cináed had a habit of being wise without thinking about it.

Cináed nodded, "Now if only everyone could see things that way, the world would be a better place." he said with a smile. He was still slightly uneasy, but he supposed that people could always changed. He just wondered whether former victims would feel the same way.

Wasn't forgiveness something people had to learn too though? It was a dilemma. Justice against genuine reform? He wasn't sure there was a right answer at all.

"Family's always something you can hold onto," Cináed agreed. The teenager's thoughts went to his father back home, and his baby brother. Well, not technically his father and brother... but they might as well have been. He didn't know who his real parents were.

Cináed was enjoying himself so far, in this new and exciting city. He'd met two unusual animal-like creatures at a bar, finished his book (he'd really need to buy the sequel to that, it had been great!) and was currently leaning happily against the edge of the fountain in the middle of the largely pedestrianised main plaza, twirling a strand of his blonde hair and licking an ice cream.

Today was a good day.

And so, when the black ooze started to pour from the sewers, at first Cináed was unphased. He was too busy enjoying his ice cream to spare it much thought. It was probably just a sewage defect, right? Wrong.

The ice cream hit the floor when the manhole cover burst into a spray of black liquid, and Cináed was on his feet, amber eyes wide with shock. "That is never a good sign!" he exclaimed, backing himself away from the nearest pool of goop.

"Oh no you don't!" Cináed's reaction to the charging ooze-monster was swift and decisive, a ball of golden phoenix fire forming around his palm that he launched towards the creature. The teenager sprinted forwards to skid to a halt between the woman and the creature, spreading both palms as his forearms ignited with the same golden fire.

"Get out of here!" he yelled at the girl, "Get clear of the area, run!"

Cináed's arms were bathed in flame as he ascertained the death of the creature he had attacked, but he turned as he heard the girl's screams. "No!" he called out desperately, twin gouts of golden flame pouring from his arms towards the now growing creature to envelop it in searing heat.

If the creature was downed, he would run to the fallen girl's side, kneeling down beside her and placing a hand on her throat to try and heal the wound. But it was too late. "No! No no no!" he yelled, punching the ground. Tears rolled down his cheeks.

Was the teenager really being so affected by the death of the stranger? Apparently so.

Eyes still watery, cheeks wet with fresh tears of sorrow at his inability to save the girl, Cináed stood over her body and faced off against the roaring beast. "I don't know what you are," the teenager breathed, gathering another wave of fire about his form, "But you picked the wrong kid to upset."

With a high-pitched sound like a cross between a firework and a bird's call, Cináed's entire body lifted off the ground in a spiral of fire that he funnelled towards the hulking mass with a cry of exertion. The torrent of fire would envelop the creature, trailing around its body and searing inwards with cleansing flames hot enough to slightly melt the stones upon which it stood. "Begone from this world!" he yelled, "You have no place here!"

Still focusing his torrent of flame, Cináed had precious little time to move out of the way of the flailing arm. He propelled himself backwards with a jet of fire, that shot to intercept the falling hand in an attempt to utterly melt it before it could catch him as he bounded out of its path.

The arm would catch his chest on the way down for a glancing blow, potentially splattering goop all over him as it knocked him down and backwards. He landed unsteadily, staggering in an attempt to remain upright and forcefully igniting his body to sear himself clean of the droplets, turning them to ash.

Cináed took a deep breath, recovering his balance and charging forwards once more. He swung an arm forwards in a long arc, launching a broad ball of fire towards the suffocating creature in an attempt to envelop it once more in a nova of heat.

"Get over here!" he yelled to Vegeshin, "Watch my back and I'll watch yours! Don't worry about the heat, my fire won't burn you unless I want it to!"

Cináed was weakening now, a large amount of power expended to annihilate the titan. Lashes and bursts of flame shot from his arms to force back the tide, but the horde was still closing in. He had the fuel to keep going for a while still, but there seemed to be no end to these things.

Propelling himself into the air once again, Cináed sought to escape the reach of the creatures by hovering in the air, keeping himself out of the reach of any ordinary humanoid as he cast flames down on the globs of goo below.

As Ethan approached, Cináed swept his arms at the creatures with exasperation, "Any time now would be great!"

Cináed turned his head towards Vegeshin, nodding his head in acknowledgement. "Got it. But one thing, before I do-" The teenager spun in the air and pressed his palms onto the hybrid's forearms, closing his eyes and letting a wave of white-gold fire wash out over them. The heat was at once both intense and pleasantly warm, with no pain whatsoever despite the former. The phoenix flames coursed over Vegeshin's injuries, drawing on his body's natural energy to accelerate the healing process rapidly. "There," Cináed said when he was finished, pulling his hands away to leave the man's wounds healed, "Now let's put an end to this."

With a burst of flame, Cináed propelled himself away and towards the nearest open manhole cover, jets of heat shooting from his palms to superheat the concrete. The teenager's brow furrowed with exertion and his height wavered -- melting stone was no small feat, even for him -- but after just a few more moments, the exit point for the creatures was sealed.

Unfortunately, Cináed hadn't noticed his height decrease, and it left him quite vulnerable to any of the things that might still be above ground while he worked.

A little unsteady on his feet, having not expended so much power at once, well... his entire life (this one at least), Cináed landed with a sigh of relief as the battle came to a close. When he was called over by the NPA officer, he just about processed the man's words, nodding mutely as he ran a hand through hair slicked with sweat - whilst he couldn't burn himself, that didn't stop being the centre of a fiery inferno making even a phoenix-born a little hot and bothered.

He smiled at the officer, finally, seeming to recover himself a little. "It was only the right thing to do," he said, "I just wish I'd been able to save that girl..." His expression darkened at that, remembering how he'd turned his back on her, foolishly missing the creature that had been coming upon them from the other side. He could have prevented it.

He shook his head at the paramedics, "I'm fine," he said, letting out a deep breath once again, "Just a little out of breath. Thank you, though."

Cináed noticed the reporters last, blinking in surprise and slight embarrassment at their apparent enthusiasm to speak to him.

Cináed gave the officer a wide-eyed glance, "But I've never-" he started, but didn't finish. He took a breath in and sighed, "Alright, then, I guess..."

The teenager went slightly red at the attention from the flashing cameras and yelling reporters with their film crews as he made his way a little unsteadily over.

"Uhm..." he began, "..hi?"

"Oh..." Cináed really had no idea what he was doing, but on the officer's advice, he turned his attention at random to one of the closest reporters, hesitantly lifting a hand to gesture at her. "Sorry, could you repeat your question? I couldn't hear it over the ... everything."

"My name is Cináed," the teenager replied, "And what inspired me? Well, I was just in the area ... I'd just got an ice cream from the stall here when the attack happened."

Cináed shook his head, "And it wasn't single-handedly. I'd have been overwhelmed without ..." he realised he didn't know the other man's name, "... the other man who intervened, and the police."

Turning to the other reporter, Cináed shook his head, "No, I only arrived in the city yesterday, actually."

"I am Terran - I'm from another city, is all. Astus." Cináed replied, smiling, "It's not as hectic there as it is here, so I haven't run into the militia before." he explained before moving onto the other questions. "I'm seventeen... and no, Cináed is Gaelic for 'born of fire'. I didn't pick it, before you ask, I'm not a superhero who picks their own name. And .. yes? My hair is natural."
