History

Born in Chasm City, Yellowstone to Joseph and Madeline Angelique; Claire and her sister Marlene were brought up as the daughters of an elite family. Her father owned one of the most prosperous companies in the system (Baqui Heavy Industries) and her mother was a historian of well known fame and repute. Always busy, and always traveling throughout the local systems, and even further at times; Joseph and Madeline tried their best to make time for the sisters.
Later, the Epsilon system was violently absorbed into the Aschen Empire, and has remained as an outlying territorial colony since then. However, with this came access and opportunities while different weren't that much different from those offered on Yellowstone. Madeline and Joseph soon went their separate ways, divorcing, and Madeline gaining sole custody of the siblings. Eventually she remarried to the at the time McGregor patriarch, Darian McGregor. Moving the pair to Langara to live with her new husband, things went well until he became violent towards Claire and her sister, Marlene.

Time eventually found the pair on similar yet different paths, Claire as an officer in the Aschen High Space command, and Marlene in the Aschen Confederation's Intelligence sector. Eventually, the powers that be in the Aschen military and intelligence sector took notice. With her high gravity home world, and the suspected Alteran genes, she was exploited by the military complex.

It didn't take long for the nation to find disingenuous uses for the young woman in their service. Capitalizing on her outsider or minority status as an Amerikano, the military soon had their sights on turning her into a walking weapon. The abuse suffered at the hands of the Aschen military has left Claire with little love for the now Empire. She has always been one of the most vocal and harshest critics of their xenophobic and paranoid nature.

However though, Claire's history is difficult, complicated and at best murky.
Having attempted to make the best of a bad situation left over from a brain injury suffered during an altercation while visiting on Langara; she returned home to Yellowstone and Chasm City to heal and take over operations of her father's company Baqui.
Unfortunately though, a bad situation seemed to have turned from bad to worse and on a routine business trip she disappeared. While no remains or debris have been found, it's been largely assumed that she may have perished on sight seeing excursion off planet to Sky's Edge with potential clients.

The fate of Baqui is largely unknown though it is rumored that someone close to Claire has taken over it's operation for the time being until assets can be liquidated and an estate settled.

Skills and Talents

Martial Arts Training (Lok'nel, Sodan): Most militaries like any other train their personnel in self defense. Claire has taken this to another level, preferring to train not only the body but the mind as well.

Abnormal Musculoskeletal Makeup: Growing up in a high gravity world, her system adapted to be able withstand the stress of higher gravitational forces.

Alteran Abilities: This is both a widely encompassing and limiting term. The abilities which she possesses are considered to be exceptionally powerful and when pressed Claire has proven to have a mastery over almost all of these with the exception of perhaps precognition. Much of the time she enforces on herself a low energy level, which will not cause any sort of equipment designed to measure energy or psionics to peg. If the self imposed bonds are lifted, an immense amount of energy will be released. While there is control over the release of this energy, it is physically demanding and draining within a corporeal form.

Claire Angelique-McGregor smirked slightly. Mollem had always been unable to truly get a good read on her. "It's possible, even for me. You should know that." She replied quickly seeing she should scale things back just a bit or Mollem would suspect she was in possession of ulterior motives. "I did have a flight scheduled, but it can be quickly canceled." Claire answered guessing it wouldn't be a good idea to turn down the invitation. "They seem to be causing a great deal of trouble right now." She added commenting on what Mollem had said.

"Please, call me Claire. We're in small company." Claire told Elise smiling slightly. There was something odd, about the Defense Minister. Like she herself had been one of the Aschen's strange little highly classified and covert defense projects.

Claire Angelique-McGregor was silent for a moment as she thought of what Mollem had to say of Invictus. He said that he would be the one to pounce, we most likely it would be directions from him, to her office to the military and other branches. "Well that just takes patience." She remarked, purposely forgetting to add that that was something that Mollem did not seem to possess most of the time. Political conversations were something she spent nights out or rather out of reach to avoid. As Defense Minister, many desired to sway her opinion to their own, something that she didn't appreciate but understood came with the territory.

Claire Angelique-McGregor wasn't entirely sure what to make of Mollem's actions lately. He'd divorced his wife, taken a girl friend and taken her off to some paradise spot. It didn't add up. "I need a drink." She muttered grumpily. Sure, Claire had her nasty habits left over from a life that didn't always involve the Aschen. Drinking, smoking and she even had done the occasional recreational drug, not to mention a fewer harder to quit things. But, now that was all behind her supposedly and didn't really stop her from the occasional drink or cigarette much to her assistant's dismay, or worse family. Pushing the door open to the all now too familiar bar, she expected it to be just her tonight as she took a seat and ordered herself a drink.

Claire Angelique-McGregor looked at Marlene and frowned as she took a seat next to Marlene. "You got yourself into this Marlene by sleeping around with the excuse of negotiations and covert ops." She replied as she lit a cigarette and nodded to Stryfe. "I can take care of myself easily enough. You on the other hand seem to just want to play secret agent and fuck everything but your husband or rather ex husband." Claire wasn't terribly happy to be listening to her sister's sob story when after all it was she that had placed herself into this mess. Sure it may have seemed cold on Claire's part but did she really care? No. She had long ago learned that a person had to account for their own actions, Marlene hadn't. "He's like Darian in a lot of aspects, but he's saner. He was also justified if you look at it from his point of view."

Claire Angelique-McGregor shook her head as she exhaled a plume of smoke. "No... I never said I was or that I'd drunken the proverbial kool-aid, but hear me out on this. He was justified to be angry with you, granted he shouldn't have tried to attempt to murder you. You're the one going around denouncing their heritage." She remarked wincing at the volume Marlene's voice took. "Lower your voice, I can't help you. I have instructions not to interfere to be honest." By saying this Claire'd said more than enough. Knowing the rules as they were and what allowed her to exist in a strange state between living and dead. Pausing for a moment she picked up her glass and took a drink giving Marlene time to digest it all.

Claire Angelique-McGregor set her drink down onto the counter with a dull thunk. "What makes you so sure?" She questioned. In many ways she thought that her sister just couldn't see it from Mollem's point of view, nor could she really understand just how hard of a position she'd be put it by both of them. "I can't side with either of you... for reasons I can't really explain here. Besides why would he want to kill you? Nothing to loose nothing to gain."

Claire Angelique-McGregor shot a glare towards Zeniroak and finished her drink. "Learn that eaves dropping doesn't always suit your purposes." She remarked as she too turned to leave. Claire hadn't appreciated it nor welcomed it either. "Bloody McGregor family.. always something." Claire muttered to herself as she left. There was work to do back home, and too much of it.

The days events held almost a sense of anticipation for Claire, as she straightened her suit jacket and smoothed back a few stray strands of hair she started off down the hallway; having left the women's bathroom which she'd quickly ducked into. After today there were only a few short weeks before she could return to relative obscurity as a civillian. Of course she knew the etiquette for dressing for meetings like this, a nice blouse, an excellently tailored dark suit and heels. But Claire couldn't help sneaking in something other than white now and then, and had picked a deep blue silk blouse to wear beneath the suit. "I could have just done this through the papers, but no it had to be through a press conference." She muttered tersely to herself as she walked up to the office door. Giving two short, sharp, nearly military like raps, Claire waited. There were just some things that couldn't be forgotten.

Claire Angelique-McGregor shook her head as she took a seat. "No thank you." She replied as she glanced over at Cally. She envied the other woman, with the ability to dress so casually, where as she always was in either a suit or dress. That would be one thing to look forward to with retiring, the ability to wear what she wanted; not what the occasion or job dictated. "No, I've not. But I suspect a number of people will be very happy to see me go." Claire answered as she settled into her seat. She'd never been well liked, simply because she wasn't native born and wasn't corrupted easily.

Claire Angelique-McGregor paused for a moment as if considering the question asked. It wasn't as if she had a career on the line anyway, due to retire within the next few weeks unless decided otherwise she also didn't particularly care. "No. It wouldn't be the first time I've been placed on record personal or otherwise Miss McAuliffe."

Claire Angelique-McGregor listened to Cally recite something that was almost rote to a person by the time they were an adult. "Claire Angelique-McGregor, my mother divorced and remarried Darian McGregor. He adopted myself and my sister Marlene. I am originally from Chasm City, Yellowstone a planet now part of the Aschen Confederation territories. I have been in both the AHSC and LDA. I am currently the Aschen Minister of Defense." She said dryly. This wasn't her ideal way of spending time. Interviews were things that she did well, but they bored her horribly and she never put much enthusiasm or thought into them.

Claire Angelique-McGregor had to be careful about what she said here. Her citizenship had always been suspect, despite having been adopted by the McGregor family when her mother remarried. "It will be difficult to integrate in, and there will be many things like growing pains. Depending on how it is handled it could be both good and bad. To be honest my opinion is lets wait and see." Claire had taken a fairly neutral stance, something that had always annoyed political opponents. She wanted to know what all the facts might be or what the situation was going to do before making a more concrete decision. Okay for military work maybe, but not so great for politics.

Claire Angelique-McGregor frowned with the announcement of this question. "Unfortunately I wish I didn't. My sister is a member of the LDA and there are a few assets that my family still holds on Yellowstone. The main issue that might be cause for concern about this is perhaps the sudden influx of people and what it will do to the economy, among other things." This was a tricky question, one that she had tried many times to evade gracefully and had never been successful with.

Claire Angelique-McGregor nodded in reply. "Yes people were routinely screened and checked, held if need be. Much like your Ellis Island and Angel Island from the 20th centuries on Earth." She replied having done some hasty research as to how to possibly make this process better. "But the possible problems with influx will be like Cally here said, a possible rise in crime, discrimination against them, and like most immigrants will wonder how they will house, clothe and provide for themselves. It's a complicated issue Miss McAuliffe."

Claire Angelique-McGregor sighed tiredly. This woman asked too many questions. "I'll put it ever so bluntly, a screening process much akin to eugenics." She had said it. Her bridges were burned, and no one would ever want to deal with her politically again. But maybe this was what she had in mind, maybe she was tired of being a political referee. "You people practiced in the 19th and 20th centuries by sending people whom you considered unfit by your process of immigration to American back to their own countries. This is nothing new."

'So I have your attention now do I?' Claire thought tersely as she recalled what exactly would be screened out in the process. "People who do no meet a certain intelligence quotient, people with certain genetic deformities, mental disabilities, certain diseases, even certain social classes will be screened out. Need I remind you that you Americans did this also? The only thing that interests you about it is that someone else is doing it in modern times." She stated bluntly. Bluntness had always been her downfall and now she no longer cared. Superior officers, members of the parliament, even teachers as a child had always scolded her about being entirely too direct. "If these things slip through the screening process, people can be hospitalized at their own expense or even dealt with accordingly. It's not glamorous, and it's not all sunshine and fucking daisies my dear."

Claire Angelique-McGregor smirked slightly at McAuliffe before continuing. "I'm simply answering, which is likewise my job in this portion of things." Claire hadn't sworn at the woman, but had perhaps merely been too blunt. In her opinion the woman hadn't really enough experience to know when someone was swearing at them and when they were simply emphasizing a point. "If you're curious about the LDA's end of this why don't you request a interview with someone over there? I can give you a card for someone who would just love to talk to you about all this." She said smiling slightly. Marlene didn't have enough to do, so Claire would send some trouble her way or rather a nice big headache for all of the ones she'd caused her.

Claire Angelique-McGregor had been mostly quiet after Brenna had received quite a few answers she'd not liked to her questions and directed her attention towards Cally. "I think I'll pass. I don't even celebrate that." She remarked. Claire leaned more towards the agnostic end of the spectrum, but still didn't easily buy into the polytheistic faith that the Aschen were so strongly convicted of. That also made her more of a enemy than ally to most people, all because she didn't share the same religious views that a normal Aschen citizen should.

Claire Angelique-McGregor just shook her head and gathered her things. This whole day had been a colossal waste of her time. "No problem." She answered holding her hand back, either Brenna would get a very sore hand or she simply wouldn't get a hand shake out of Claire. More than likely the latter. Turning around, she left the office grumbling under her breath about stupid American's in Canasian.
