0 · 366 views · located in Whiskey Colony

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Joseph_Bennett

Groups

The United Citizens Federation, a spacefaring government intent on finding new habitable worlds.
The primary defense force of the Oberon.

Description

Colonial Union Marine, enlisted in either the CDF or the Colonial Union.

Armament: MP-35 rifle, which uses nanotechnology to assemble the munition it fires, including, but not limited to: Rifle ammunition, hollowpoint ammunition, shotgun slugs, shotgun shot, a microwave beam designed to melt enemies from the inside out, and rocket propelled grenades. The ammunition is limited by the amount of blocks of nanites that the soldier carries.

Armor: Nanite technology that serves a projectile-proof vest, resembling Kevlar in the way that it distributes the point of impact.

Enhancements: Green-skinned bodies with enhanced speed, strength, and endurance. They also have interfaces that interact with their brains. Nanite-infused blood allowing for faster clotting.

They usually rank from infantrymen to captains, and operate in squads of six to eight, with field medics, assault soldiers, heavy assault, snipers, and officers. Occasionally artillery soldiers, as well.

Transport:
Drop ships. Low atmosphere travel ships that quickly can drop either paratroopers or fly close to the ground and drop ground troops.
ATV. All-terrain-vehicle, basically a four-wheeler that can carry two to three people.
Amphibious vehicle. Tread-tracked vehicle that can operate on land and in water.

Klendath.

This place was not intended for the weak. It is a barren, desolate planet, devoid of almost all life besides that which has come here.

The planet is almost entirely covered in rock and sand. Most attempts to farm have been met with little to no results. The attempts at terraforming this place will likely take at least a century.

And yet here, the Colonial Marines are in their element.
A military exercise had started. Simple munitions training. Several units of the CDF and the Colonial Union had been placed approximately a quarter of a mile apart at the radius of half a mile away from a capture point, a simple flag. These excersises were not meant to be fun. Each unit was armed with a TMP-35, a duplicate of the MP-35 in weight and shape, the only difference being that it fired ammunition that sent a heavy shock through the opponent. This wasn't the only weapon they were armed with. Artillery was set around the capture point, and set to fire nonlethal explosives, designed to cover the target of it in a sort of paint. The rules were simple. The team to either eliminate all other teams or to hold the capture point for an hour would be declared the victor of the exercise.

The units designated CU-485 through CU-510 were to participate in the exercise. This meant a total of about 150 marines were in the exercise.

About twenty minutes in, about fifteen marines were downed and removed from the exercise.
Another twenty minutes in, a total of 45 marines were downed and removed from the exercise.
At the forty minute mark CU-503 captured the point. They lost it in twelve minutes and were removed from the exercise.
About an hour in, CU-490 captured the point and held it for twenty-three minutes before retreating after a loss of two of their marines.
At the hour and 52 minute mark only 13 units were left and the point was being held by unit CU-487 and was held for a total of thirty-six minutes before all of the unit was downed and removed from the game.

At the 2 hours and 50 minute mark 6 units are left and are engaging in firefights around the mock 'town' surrounding the capture point.

The exercise will continue for another hour.

A beep comes in on the radio of the encampment, much to the operator's surprise. "Urgent message. We have a group of roughly 20 armed bandits assaulting a mining shipment west of Echo colony. Need urgent response, they seem to be trying to hijack the convoy. Get out there fast."
The operator sits for a second, absorbing the message, and then pulls the mobilization alarm next to his station.
The order for the groups of Jackal and Sandworm, both groups of roughly 6 men, to mobilize ASAP is given out rapidly. Sergeant Smit was one of them, a soldier of middling experience, in charge of Jackal patrol, the leading influence on Klendath when it came to fast assaults to rival that of the Mobile Infantry.

The Duster pilots start up their vehicles, helicopter-like flight craft dependent on two jet engines, like a sort of dropship.

The groups have roughly four minutes to mobilize, likely a surprise, as activity has always been slow around this place.
The clock starts now.

All of a sudden, a fleet of roughly 176 vessels appears. They are all roughly cut from metal, as if assembled from the scraps of a much, much larger ship, and are all painted with a lightning bolt within a sun, that sun being the pupil of a larger eye.
They had been dragged from all around space outside of Aschen territory, and all arrived in intervals of around a minute. The largest ones, three well-sized ships of about 400 crew, were titled the Vorud’d Frohill, the Vorud’d Cotruniv, and Vorud’d Harra, those meaning the duty to family, country, and Godwind, respectfully.
The 12 other ships of decent size, also mostly carriers consisting of roughly 120 crew each, titled, in plain common, “Trustworthiness,” “Loyalty,” “Helpfulness,” “Friendliness,” “Courteousness,” “Kindness,” (Of which was emblazoned with a giant Red Cross, plainly a medical ship) “Obedience,” “Cheerfulness,” “Thriftiness,” (Of which was covered with giant cutters and carried general repair and scrapping technology) “Bravery,” and finally, the “Reverence,” the largest of all of them.
There were a greater assortment of smaller attack vessels of 60 to 80 crew, all of which were titled with other virtues, although there were a few individual vessels, painted in deep reds and tans, titled with more essentially vulgar names, in a variety of both dialectic Klendathan and Oberon, as well as common, as well as one with the name “Solidarity” crosses out and replaced with “Imperial Pigfuckers” underneath it, although in a near unreadable dialect.
The many smaller, less organized ships, painted with the colors red and tan, as soon as arriving begin blasting a variety of “music” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX0qJqsEkZQ , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLrX7MH1Rtg , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMwKXTnOTVc ) before being drowned out by static, which is then replaced with a message in common, broadcasted from the three great-ships.
“Val’Din Ch’K’Harra. May the Godwind guide our souls. We have come to pay in blood for the prisoners taken from our outreach program. We have no quarrel but with those of the Imperialist Dogs who have taken the men and women who served on the ships sent to rescue those unfairly stolen, despite their peaceful intentions. We have suffered and feared for far too long, and now we shall take action, guided by Harra. Prepare for thy essence to be drowned and scattered by the winds. That is all.”

It took a couple seconds for the missile to be spotted by one of the smaller ships on the outside, the Dependable, and when it did it attempted to contact High Command, only to quickly realize that it couldn’t establish a link.
The smaller engagement ship does a quick twirl, alerting the nearby fighters through visual stimuli, and propels itself rapidly towards the missile, attempting to engage it, getting close enough to throw it off slightly before the detonation.

The resulting blast takes out the majority of outer ships, the fleet being spaced out as a precaution to prevent warp accidents, including destroying the Courteousness, and its section of the fleet, roughly thirty ships.
The remaining ships at first respond with panic, which quickly settles as they space out even further in response, in small clusters of three or four ships. They begin advancement deeper into Aschen space.

“We fear no longer your laws. We are guided by Harra. The Godwind shall guide us.”
