"My name is Legion, for we are many!"

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by TavaresM

Description

Image

Name: David Charles Haller
Aliases: Legion / The Mutant God
Age: 20
Race: Homo-Superior [Mutant]

Personality

Once a free spirited and kind youth that would never dream of harming a soul, the combination of violence and fear that ran rampant through the streets of society since the explosion in mutant population, and the already troubled state of mind for the mutant with various persons of all kinds living in his head, David is now a serious and leery individual. Over the years, he has subconsciously created thousands of separate personalities, each with its own agenda and its own set of mutant powers. The mix of limitless abilities at his disposal with no control over who he was at any given point caused too much trouble for him, and those around him, and seeing others hurt against his will became the norm.

It is for this reason that he is so extremely cautious about his innate gifts, hesitating to ever risk another "lapse", although his desire to help those is constantly conflicting with his pacifistic tendencies. David is a strong advocate of mutant rights and wants nothing more than to see his kind able to walk the streets freely without being persecuted for the crimes that other mutants commit. However, he understands that peace will never come from just talking and hoping and is willing to take the extra step to make things right that most deem too extreme. While he does understand that his own people are sometimes burdened with gifts too dangerous to be easily controlled, he also believes that everyone can eventually learn to control it, and wants the public to realize this as well, instead of being afraid and wanting to end the risk.

He does not hesitate to take action, feeling it only feasible to take the life of those who would see mutant kind crumble. This is not only from anti-mutant extremists and those who oppose them outright, but sometimes even his own kind. Despite his darker methods of getting the job done, he still believes himself to be the "good guy", and tries to protect both mutants and humans alike. Should another mutant commit terrorist acts or cause so much destruction or fear that it makes the entire mutant population look worse, thereby causing their whole goal to take a step back in progress, he will aim to end their threat for good.

Despite his constant struggle and need to always maintain focus in order to stay in control of himself, there are times where he loses control to another. Once this happens, his entire attitude will change entirely based on whichever personality has taken over, and due to the vast number of them, there possibility of personas is endless. To maintain control, he must limit the use of his abilities to two at a time, the one of which is always telepathy, as it is the only way he can keep control. The only way that he can use all of his powers at once is if a threat presented itself that was so great, all of his personalities could agree that they need to get along and help dispose of the threat for their own safety. Of course, once that threat is ended, it would be a chaotic free-for-all within his head for control of his body, which could result in a situation even worse off than before.

Gifts - Curses

David is an omega level mutant, thus he possesses a level of power without foreseeable limits. He has the unique ability to create spontaneous mutations with varying attributes. There is no limit to the number of mutations he can create, nor is there a limit to what level of strength he can cause any mutation to be. Due to a combination of his immense powers and the mental instability caused by the events of when his powers initially manifested, David subconsciously creates a new persona, or sub-personality, to govern each one of these new mutations. Because of this, he has a split personality for each power he has, and each personality possesses a single mutant gift of its own. Due to the vast instability and power of his mind, telepathic intrusion beyond simple communication is a task so difficult that typically, only the strongest and most skilled of telepaths can do so successfully. One must simultaneously probe David's mind and ignore the thousands of thoughts from the others within his consciousness, navigate the maze of seemingly endless prison cells without getting lost, and avoid getting caught up with the persons within the cells that may distract or even injure the intruder should they let their guard down.

So begins...

3(b) stood in relative silence amongst the bustling crowds of Asterian citizens with his eyes fixed on the wooden stage. He mimicked the actions of the crowd, erupting into applause as the expensively-dressed politician stepped out to greet the public. Once the cheering had died down as the man prepared to speak, the white-eyed male glanced throughout the city square, taking note of the positions of every armed guard and the weapons they carried.

The CEO of Ereb Industries would be no easy target, but that didn't discourage him. He had been given a task that he intended to see through to the very end. Albeit the sizable reward for the assassination of such an important figure was enough for him to take the job, 3(b) was doing it for the personal satisfaction. In his eyes they were just crooks in suits, using their elevated status to their personal gain. The more politicians dead, the happier he'd be. He dug into his pocket to fetch his phone, causing the screen to light up when he held it to his face.

The time on the screen read 1:00. Time to get this train running. After sliding his cell back into his pocket, 3(b) started to make his way to the front of the crowd. Once he was about twenty-five feet away from the stage, he reached behind his back to retrieve the revolver secured in-between his belt and denim jacket. There was a sudden cry of distress as the black-haired man raised the firearm toward Gabriel Ereb and squeezed the trigger five times, causing the cackle of gunfire to echo throughout the plaza.
Shortly afterward more than six individuals indistinguishable from the original attacker emerged from the now scrambling crowds, each drawing their own weapons one by one before firing on the stage and the guards within the square.

"In addition to cleaning up our streets, " Ereb continued, "we must reinforce our current strengths. When I am in office, I will propose legislation that will raise grants and scholarships for education, and cultivate an environment where small business enterprise will thrive..."

Meanwhile, Shadow-Sabre and Verhasst stood vigilant at opposite ends of the stage. Terabytes of data flashed across their visors as their internal supercomputers scanned the area with a vast array of sensors. They monitored body language, skin temperatures, faces, and audio. As they scanned, each person was highlighted with a green or yellow aura with possible weapons and weak points tagged with yellow circles.

As 3(b) approached the stage, his form was highlighted with a flashing red aura across their visors. A yellow circle targeted the revolver beneath his jacket.

<< WARNING! IMMINENT THREAT DETECTED! >>

"GET DOWN!" Shadow-Sabre bellowed on his external loudspeaker as he and Verhasst lept in between Ereb and the shooter. The revolver rounds collided with the reactive mesh of their nanosuits like pebbles before ricocheting into the concrete.

"Code red!" Shadow-Sabre called out on their secure comm' link as several more shooters appeared. "Multiple hostiles! Move in! Surround them! Set weapons to stun. Paia, call the authorities and paramedics."

Verhasst and Shadow-Sabre simultaneously lifted their rifles, braced the butts against their shoulders, and aimed them at the assailant. High voltage streams of electricity screeched from the weapons towards the would-be assassin. The stench of ozone filled the air as the paralyzing volts hit the man with the force of a battering ram. Meanwhile, several Alpha Troopers materialized around the edge of the rally. They weaved between the fleeing spectators and attempted to surround the other shooters before firing bolts of electricity from their rifles and pistols.

The innocent civilians scrambled in every possible direction to avoid the volley of bullets and energy blasts. 3(b) sucked his teeth in minor annoyance when his shots missed their target. He assumed a low-crouch position as he hurried over to the nearest fountain, just barely missing the beams of electricity that jolted from the soldiers' rifles. He used the brief window he'd been given to reload his revolver before peaking from behind his cover-point to fire a few shots at Shadow-Sabre and Verhasst, returning to cover immediately afterward. Damn those suits of theirs! Why didn't they get suits? Things we be a lot easier if they did.

Seeing that they were quickly being surrounded, the other clones moved to take cover behind anything they could find. They grabbed a hold of any pedestrian they could reach, some snagged two, others only one. Though it could be seen as an attempt to initiate a hostage situation, these offenders had another idea in mind. The Asterians that fell into the gunmans' grasps were violently and rapidly transformed into a carbon copy of the man who had attempted to assassinate Gabriel Ereb moments earlier. In addition to the change in appearance, the new Chain clones each sported a unique weapon that somehow appeared out of thin air; this included a high powered plasma rifle, a futuristic rocket launcher, and a couple other weapons that would level the playing field.
The clone--5(c)--mounted the rocket launcher on his shoulder and fixed the head of the grenade on a path leading straight to Shadow-Sabre and Verhasst. The targeting display of the weapon's optic sight highlighted a rectangular boxes around the armored guards, giving him the okay to squeeze the trigger. The grenade burst from the barrel with a deafening boom and flew toward the two super soldiers at frightening speeds. Even if it missed its mark the grenade would still detonate, engulfing everything in proximity in a pernicious haze of super-heated plasma.

As the firefight in the city square raged on, 1(a) sat in the comfort of his apartment with his eyes fixed on his TV. By now the reporters and camera crew of the local news station had gathered on the scene, providing live footage for everyone in the city to see. It didn't seem like the wisest decision to him, but at least they were dedicated to their craft. He kicked back in his recliner and folded his arms behind his head so he could watch the scene unfold.

Panicked bystanders fell to gunfire from both sides. Some lay spasming in the streets from the bolts of electricity that had struck them instead of the 3(b), which made them easy targets for the clones to nab, or to be trampled beneath the feet of the people scattered and tripping over one another. Others fell to the volley of bullets from the clones, and the destructive explosion of the grenade.

The situation was rapidly escalating into a blood bath as the Alpha Troopers engaged the would be assassins in the crowd of innocent bystanders. Super soldiers were met with heavy weaponry and grenade launchers.

"Uncle Eran, what's going on?" Carl yelled over the screaming.

The scene was very much reminiscent to the shooting that had transpired just outside of the ten year old boy's home back in Wing City, and his head filled with the memory of the panicked crowds knocking him to the ground and separating him from his family. He edged closer to his uncle.

"Uncle Eran!"

The boy was terrified.

Well, when Eran had planned to kick up a fuss, he hadn't planned for someone else to go bigger and better than he had planned. He hadn't even had time to shout out his protests before someone kicked up a shit storm. But all that mattered was getting Carl out of this mess safely. It didn't matter about anything else. He had to get his nephew out.

"Hey." Eran used his body to cover his nephew. "I won't let anything happen to you, okay? I promise. I came back for you before, but I'm not even going to let you get lost this time. I'll keep a hold of your hand, and you're to stay in front of me as we leave, got it. I promise, nothing is going to happen to you. And if something happens to me, I want you to run as fast as you can out of here and back home. But nothing is going to happen to me. You know me, I'm like a superhero." He smiled, trying to get his nephew to think about something else.

He took Carl's hand and carefully, using his own body as a shield against any stray bullets, tried to get them away without getting hurt. If his sister and brother in law found out about this, he was going to be royally fucked. And if Carl got hurt, he was going to be killed.

The Alpha Troopers advanced with a quick pace, keeping the muzzles of their weapons lowered to the ground. A few attempted to funneled bystanders out the area while staying between them and the shooters. When met with clear shots, they fired their stun pistols at the terrorists with flawless robotic accuracy. The shock had faded. Their training had kicked in.

Shadow-Sabre leaped from the stage, taking the plasma grenade full in the chest. He tucked his body into a somersault, attempting to contain the blast, before landing in a roll. The Alpha Trooper stretched out his hand towards 5(c) and clenched his fist. A telekinetic vice would envelope the man before slamming him into the ground, knocking him unconscious. With the major threat dealt with, Shadow-Sabre locked onto 3(b) and launched himself towards the fountain with a single leap.

Meanwhile, Verhasst draped his body over Gabriel Ereb and attempted to shield him from any attack. The Parliamentary candidate crouched behind his body guard. A bloodied hand gripped his shoulder tightly.

"Damnit!" Gabriel cursed to himself. "It wasn't supposed to be like this! All those people..."

"No, come on- get the camera- no, not there! Oh, it doesn't matter, just keep it pointing vaguely at me... are we on? We're on? Oh for-" Martin Langford, TerraCast anchorman and reporter hastily straightened his tie from where he was half-standing, half crouching at the edge of the crowd.

"Of course we're on, we're filming live, you idiot," Fernando hissed from behind the camera.

"Well, I don't know, I thought the rain of bullets might have..." Martin hissed back, before coughing and clearing his throat. "Anyway, I apologise for that interruption ladies and gentleman, but as you can see behind us, Mr Gabriel Ereb's speech in Asteria City has been brought to an early end by some sort of terrorist attack. It's hard to tell exactly what's happening out here but it seems as though Ereb Industries private security have responded by returning fire into the crowd..." He cut off with a muffled curse as a bullet ricocheted off the ground a few metres away.

"...I've seen several casualties already, at the hands of the terrorists who appear to be able to morph people into clones, and to the stun guns." he went on, "It's turning into a massacre out here folks. It seems as though Mr. Ereb has some ruthless enemies."

Appearing in a windowsill cyprus held a SKT0-Rail Rifle and looked for a target. He didn't have to worry about being seen because of the shadows, his dark powers, and a perception filter added to the armor. He panned the thermal plasma scope across a area to get a good look a the Chaos ragging below he quickly tapped the hair trigger on the fully automatic gun and dropped an Alpha Trooper. He congratulated himself, a perfect headshot. Then he panned the area again searching for Erib, who was nowhere to be seen. Cyprus scowled, his target gone he decided to help the others below by picking off the Alpha troopers.

Later:

Cyprus noted the casualties then packed up and left the building. He will complete his mission, no matter the cost.

"These things just won't give up will they?!" one of the clones shouted, although the sounds of gunfire and panicked cries made it difficult for his contemporaries to hear him. Before he could even ready another grenade for fire, he found himself overtaken by some invisible force that violently slammed him into the ground--light's out. The remaining clones found themselves fighting an up-hill battle, one that they would undoubtedly lose. One by one the clones let their weapons hit the ground and placed their hands behind their heads. There was no sense in continuing the assault for their message had been delivered. Albeit they had failed in the assassination of Gabriel Ereb, their attempt would likely be the first of many conflicts to come.

The clones hit by the paralyzing beams of electricity hit the ground like bricks before breaking out into a fit of convulsions; the sudden and traumatic shock caused them to revert to their original forms, revealing that the very attackers were Asterian citizens who had fallen into the clutches of the original 1(a). 3(b)'s eyes widened in fear when he peaked from behind the marble fountain. A hulking soldier clad in robotic armor barreling toward him was the last thing he wanted to see. The Chain clone dove to his left, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with soldier and stone.

As he exits the building cyprus was welcomed to the Chaos in the street. He walked toward the other side of the street then he saw an injured civilian laying in the street. Cyprus was overwhelmed with guilt when that vary sight brought him to the memory of when a very, very close friend lay dieing, and he did nothing to help her. He was so overwhelmed that he barely noticeed when a cop cuffed him and dragged him off. And he did nothing.

As the crowd continued to scatter like roaches and the terrorist clones dropped like flies, the Ereb Alpha Troopers cautiously approached the surrendering terrorist and restrained them.

"Not so fast..." Shadow-Sabre growled through his external speaker as 3(b) attempted to flee from the cyborg. He stretched out his hand and attempted to pull the clone into his grip with a yank of telekinetic force. The Alpha Trooper would catch him by the collar and lift him to eye level with the supersoldier. "I have some questions for you..." His voice was heavily modulated and intimidating. "Who do you work for?! Who ordered this hit?! And don't lie to me, because I'll kn-"

BOOM!

Shadow-Sabre glanced upward. Time slowed to a crawl as one of his fellow Alpha Troopers collapsed to the ground. Black shrapnel and sparks from the soldier's helmet flew across the concrete. A baseball-sized void gaped from his head.

The collapsed Alpha Trooper convulsed on the ground. His synthetic muscles twitched and spasmed. A low hum resonated from the suit as several cracks creaked along the torso and limbs. Finally, the fallen Alpha Trooper disintegrated into black smoke and ash that scattered into the wind.

"MAN DOWN! MAN DOWN!" Shadow-Sabre shouted across their comm' as he dove behind the fountain with 3(b) still in his grip. "Paia! Logistics!"

<< Acknowledged. Accessing Crow's Nest. Up-link established. Evaluating ballistics and sensors. >>

The remained Alpha Troopers activated their stealth units and dove for cover as, high above the atmosphere, a satelite focused its lens on the city block. A complex array of sensors traced the path of the bullet from where the deceased Alpha Trooper once stood and scanned the approximate location of where it was fired from.

<< Sniper's roost identified. South-west building, third floor, second window from the left. Heavy caliber round - caution is advised. >>

Then, just as suddenly as the sniper appeared, he retreated down into the open where he was apprehended.

Once the smoke began to clear, Verhasst escorted Ereb away from the stage. The old man's face was pale. His eyes had lost part of their usual sheen, and blood stained his suit jacket. Verhasst draped the man's arm over his shoulder for support as they shuffled passed the news crew.

The crowd was beginning to thin out from the immediate area as the handful of police officers already on scene pushed their way through. One stooped to check on a fallen woman who hadn't risen from where an Alpha Trooper's stun weapon had left her crumpled on the ground. She was bleeding profusely from a deep gash in her brow inflicted by the trampling feet that she had been caught beneath. Not three feet away a man lay motionless as well, a pool of blood spreading across the pavement where a clone's bullet had torn through his abdomen.

Other officers moved in on the the clones and the Alpha Troopers while voices were shouting from all directions.

"Drop your weapons! Down on the ground!"

"We've got another down over he-"

"What just happened to him?"

"I don't know, the body just went up in smoke."

"Shit. Get these people out of here so the ambulances can get in."

"Secure those buildings!"

Cyprus was dragged away from the point of chaos to be shoved into the back of the nearest police vehicle parked out near the street while the other officers on scene moved to restrain the clones, and to order the Alpha Troopers down. They had their weapons trained on the Alpha Troopers as readily as on the clones and orders were being barked to drop their weapons and get down.

Backup had been called in and other vehicles and police would be arriving shortly, but until then the officers on scene seemed intent on neutralizing anyone with a weapon, regardless of who started what. The Alpha Troopers had no visible identification as law enforcement officers, or as TNG military, and thus were subject to the precautionary measure until the clones could be restrained and the situation secured.

Sitting in a cop car Cyprus was in complete emotional shock, following that ordeal, things didn't go as planned, but it could of gone a lot worse. Cyprus leaned agenst the door, stareing out the window. He sighed, his friend was right, he has changed. Maybe staying in the shadows wouldn't work anymore. He thought needed new allies, though the thought of completely I the side of the law wouldn't work. Maybe a vigilantly, he cerianly had the equipment. And then his mind whent blank, and he slipped into unconsciousness...

3(b) had nearly made it out of the plaza before he was seized by the Alpha Trooper's telekinetic grasp and yanked toward him. Once Shadow-Sabre had him by the collar the interrogation began, as he expected. The clone heaved a hefty glob of mucus from the back of his throat and spat, producing the trademark 'ptui' before the loogie landed right on the center of the soldier's mask. "There's your answer, pig." This was likely to get him a good ass kicking but he wasn't worried about it.

A sudden ear-splitting boom caused his head to snap in the direction of the sound. It was the sound of a high caliber rifle, but as he scanned the rooftops he wasn't able to locate another shooter. The only thing he saw was the body of the targeted Alpha Trooper hit the ground with an audible thud before dissipating into a sable gas. His body lurched to one side when his captor leapt behind the nearest fountain for cover. By now the city's police had arrived on the scene, spreading out to assist injured citizens or to subdue his fellow attackers. It seemed that even the super-soldiers hired to protect Mr. Ereb were the targets of the officers' commands. 3(b) saw the commotion as a chance to escape, and thrust his elbow backward as hard as he could in an attempt to smash Shadow-Sabre's head against the stone fountain. He didn't expect it to do much damage against the man's high tech armor, but it should serve as a decent distraction so he could high-tail it out of there.

Shadow-Sabre growled in annoyance as the lugie smeared across his visor. The cyborg squeezed the man's shoulder, possibly fracturing and bruising a few bones. He was unfazed by 3(b)'s pathetic attempt to bash his head into the fountain - the attempt more likely breaking the man's elbow.

The Alpha Trooper gripped the clone by the sleeve and threw him across the pavement to the feet of the police officers.

"Captain, what are our orders?" one of the supersoldiers called out on their network. Shadow-Sabre scanned the area. He saw the police barking commands and Ereb being taken to an ambulance. Though he knew there would be no way the police could take them by force, he looked to Ereb - he nodded solemnly - and he nodded in turn.

"Stand down." he ordered. "Activate the signature locks on your weapons and lay them on the ground."

The Alpha Troopers proceeded to unholster their weapons and placed them on the ground. Each carried a wide assortment of weapons from a rifle to a combat knife to various forms of grenades. shadow-Sabre placed his katana, locked within its sheath, on the ground beside his other equipment. After they placed their weapons in a neat pile in front of them, they stood at attention with a soldierly discipline.

3(b) attempt to injure the masked soldier failed horribly, and earned him nothing but a series of scrapes and bruises when he was thrown across the asphalt. He glanced up to the officer looming above him before calmly placing his hands behind his head. It was obvious that defeat was imminent and attempting to flee would likely only get him in more trouble. Although the assassination was a failure, they still managed to get a message across. That's all that was needed.

Downtown Verinotte Hollow

The sound of shredding paper accompanied the sudden and violent ripping of spacetime, producing a dimensional tear about six feet in height. From within the portal emerged David Haller, a cadaverous fellow dressed in almost entirely in black other than his slim-fit blue jeans. He raised a hand to place his last cigarette in-between his lips before lighting it with a zippo lighter he'd picked up from his last location.

"So this is it huh?" He'd only heard rumors until now; a safehaven for all supernaturals regardless of gender, species and alignment. It seemed too good to be true. Whether or not the town was actually a utopia didn't concern him, his only focus was finding someone who could assist him with his affliction.

"Let's see...where should I go first?" taking a moment to scan the area, he decided to settle on the tavern in the distance. It didn't take long for him to reach the door, especially with his frequent use of teleportation. He had to admit, he used the ability a little too often, but it was pretty damn useful. It was so bad that he didn't even bother to open the door despite it being in arm's reach. Once inside, he quickly examined the interior of the cellar to get a look at the other patrons. It was abuzz with laughs and drunken chatter, and everyone seemed to erupt in cheer at his arrival. David strolled over to an empty seat, sat down and waved one of the bartenders over to his table.

Within the tavern there was a large amount of strange beings. Most of them were vampires.

One of them was a witch.

She was seated on the chair next to where the young man had decided he wanted to take a seat. She was like a mouse, as small as she was, and much more plain than the other women in Verinotte, who often liked to wear constricting bodices and tiny skirts. The witch wore loose clothing, light silks that draped gently against her figure. Her hair braided over her shoulder, bangs out of her face. Her features were delicate, all except for her smokey eyes, which slanted upward, and were narrowed at the cup in front of her.

Around her neck, likely for some protection against the many fiends around Verinotte, was a pentagram made of silver, with a gem in its middle.

With David sat beside her, she cast him a short glance, then looked away.

had to admit that he enjoyed the atmosphere of the tavern. Unlike the supernatural minority of his world, who often acted and coalesced in secrecy to avoid public scrutiny, these people didn't seem to have a care in a world. It reminded him of the brief periods of peace within the Mutant ranks. Most of the patrons looked Human, but looks were often deceiving; he was a good example of that.

David took two long drags of his cigarette before putting it out against the mahogany table-top. One of the employees made their way over to his table and recited the list of speciality drinks for the night, which caused a puzzled expression to spread across his face. He had no idea what any of these things were.

"Mind recommending one of those to me?" He casually leaned over to the woman sitting next to him with a toothy grin. He was a little embarrased that he couldn't order a drink for himself.
