Dennison "Vox" Marker

A rough kid-vigilante whose weapon of choice is his voice. Believe me, it hurts.

0 · 782 views · located in Wing City Library

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by CaptainGrue

Description

This shall have two parts, for each persona. Dennison and Vox.

Dennison
Race: Caucasian human.
Appearance: 17. Smart black hair, brown eyes and pale skin. Dennison will generally wear brightly coloured shirts and grey to black pants.
Personality: Timid, weak but observant and compassionate. Shall explore this later, don't really know myself. Could be a twat.
Equipment & Abilities: When portraying himself as Dennison, he doesn't really have anything. However he does have some level of skill with programming and sound engineering which he uses for creating his gadgets.
Background: Dennison Marker lived a worse than average city-kid life. Well, according to class, anyway. Just higher than average test scores for his schooling, Dennison graduated a year earlier than the others. Much to his benefit, as well. He was constantly agitated by others, having them repeatedly acknowledge Dennison's lighter than average skin, age, lack of a girlfriend and essentially anything possible. The removal of this allowed him to work on Vox a lot more. Dennison's family payed little attention to him or his achievements as they delved in their own corporate businesses. As soon as he graduated they gave him enough money to live on his own, which stunned the boy. Could be worse. He always thought. Well, Vox knew this for a fact.
Other: He loves his music. Has thought about a singing career, but decided to stick with Vox as his number one.

Vox
Appearance: When Vox, Dennison changes his appearance quite a bit for both stylish and identity reasons. His hair is now ruffled quite a bit, he wears light blue contact lenses which light up, he wears a black hoody with blue lights built inside to capture his face in a blue glow. He also has a black and blue backpack. Most notable is the black gasmask-like contraption Vox has attached. We'll come to this later.
Personality: Loud. Generally furious. Compassionate. Analytical. I think I quite like those four.
Equipment & Abilities: With the gasmask-turned megaphone over his mouth attached, Vox is able to almost completely alter his voice with a remote he keeps in his sleeve. He can apply filters and change the volume to over 85 decibels, harming the hearer's hearing. The mask doubles as a headset, blocking his ears from the damage and playing some of his favourite songs. The mask can also be plugged in through a cord that attached at the middle front so that Vox can direct his voice through other devices. He also makes sure to carry several noise cancelling headphones in his backpack, to provide other people.
Background: One stupid, stupid day at age 14 Dennison Marker took an alternate route home being followed by two bullies from school. They continued to follow. Nevertheless he popped his earbuds in and listened to his music as he travelled down this strange street. Dennison was jumped by a third perpetrator, unknown to any of them. The man pulled out a taser, demanding that Dennison become his own child. Confounded, it was second later that the two bullies jumped on the insane individual, one of them instantly being stunned and pushed back. The other simply fell into the pavement, to which the criminal belted "Let me hear you scream!" and pushed the taser deep into his spine. He did indeed scream.
Then, Dennison did something very strange. He pulled his earbuds out and finkered with his phone before jamming the earbuds into the man's ears. It was the raw noise of a jet engine Dennison used to prank his primary school friends with. Although this time he cranked it to maximum volume and screamed into the mad-man's face as he held his ears shut to keep the buds in. The result was one deaf paedophile, one traumatised schoolkid and a paraplegic traumatised schoolkid.
Dennison learnt there was no difference between the quality of people. They just have a different noise.
Marker quickly realized through sound engineering that he could use his trick to combat crime, like a proper vigilante. He chose the alias Vox to best represent his method of dispachment, and instantly began searching for a gas mask that he could 'adjust'.
Other: Here's the noise-cancelling headphones so you can have a look maybe and so I can come back to it

Dennison currently resides in Wing City, spending time researching as Dennison and using time crimebusting as Vox. He has his own apartment.

So begins...

It was a crescent night. The eleventh hour struck.

The Vox moved slowly through the slums, his lights dimmed down so he was less noticeable. He wore a black hoody although still appeared with the height of a teen. It was perfect. He couldn't hear anything that would resemble danger, so he made himself bait. If there was anyone here intending on hostility, Dennison's age would assist Vox quite well. His hands in his pockets, he looked downward in an attempt to conceal his mask contraption. It wasn't like Vox had a huge reputation, but it just seemed to fit the mood.

This place, he thought, then the midnight train home. That should be it for tonight.

A quick rundown on as many of the slums' buildings as possible before midnight. That was the goal.

Hopefully it's quiet tonight, one side of him thought. But what would that accomplish?

Clear.

Vox exited one of the last buildings just as his watch went off, flashing a "11:58" in his face
Shite!
Quickly but by no means athletically, Vox left the derelict suburb in a hurry for his train. Perhaps some alleyways the next few days? Wherever the police weren't was the way Vox saw it. Besides, this place stank like Dennison's cooking.

Dennison Marker arrives through the main entrance wearing a light blue shirt and grey trousers. He happily greets the librarian at the reception as per usual and goes straight towards the research book section. His claim was that it was study for university, which was reasonable given Dennison's public nature. He had been coming here previously to use an advanced sound engineering book which aided in Dennison developing Vox's noise-mitigating headsets. Of course Dennison didn't take it home, though, as reading by himself made him feel incredibly uneasy. The quiet but warming vibe of the library suited Dennison nicely. He wouldn't socialise, but he felt there was a connection of welcome between the readers.

Dennison wouldn't even put his earphones in for music, the unique sound at this library was beautiful enough for him. Besides, should something strange happen he would be straight on the ball.

Dennison began to read.

Heh. Sounds fun.

Dennison's tummy rumbled as his eyes turned towards the eating area; people eating burgers. A realisation of annoyance waved through his body.
Ehk. Forgot to bring lunch.
After finishing up on a page about floating water droplets, he got out of his seat as he left the book at the table, intending to return to it shortly. He threw on his backpack and moved towards the exit.
On the way out of the library, Dennison waved to the receptionist.

"Just gonna grab a bite, then I'll be right back."

The receptionist acknowledged him and he rushed out the doors.
Irritating. Might find a dagwood joint.

I wonder if I could really make stuff float by yelling at it... Heh.
Walking straight past where dagwood dogs were sold, Dennison began nearing the connection which marked one of the less prestigous alleyways of West City. The unequipped minor stopped suddenly, noticing some familiarities.
Sidetracked? This place...!

It was well known to Dennison. Vox had made one visit here in the past month, and it hadn't been too popular. Dennison would have simply whirled around to get back to the library, but two very contrasting voices caught his attention. He hid behind the corner, and focused on the lexicon.

"Pain is a heaven known to everyone at one point."
Christ. The voice was bitterness in a vocal extract form. The noise was poison. Vox would be disgusted.

"You're so silly~!"
Now that's just... Diabolical. This one was much more harmonious. Innocence played through her words like chords. But what was she thinking?
Shouldn't be any trouble, but I swear... Alright then.

Dennison pulled his backpack around, unzipping it and taking out some of the contents.
A black hoody. He slipped it on.
Light blue contact lens. Delicately he applied them.
A gas mask with wires. Dennison removed his earbuds and under his hood he connected the mask up with the back of his head, his ears and his mouth. *CLICK*! And it was in.
Another *CLICK* and a faint blue glow encompassed his face.

Vox was now playing.

This wasn't the time to engage, so he pulled his hood down and pretended to rest on the corner. Eyes weren't necessary, only ears. Hands in pockets, Vox looked just like another shady character waiting for something to happen.
A gang of mice ran through a gutter, sending a barrage of delicate splashes and taps to Vox's ears. He tuned the remote in his sleeve, almost cringing at the noise. Awkward timing, quick changes weren't too natural for poor Dennison. His tummy thought about rumbling. Vox looked at it and it stopped.
Not a peep. Got it?

Vox slipped between alleyways and pathways between streets, keeping his hood down and hearing focused. It wasn't often that Vox would venture to the Eastern side, but something in his gut told him that he needed to give it a run by. The chaos of suburbia and traffic muffled the noises Vox was hearing for: Screams, gunshots, and more intricately connections between knife and flesh. Blood splashing pavement.

He was nervous. Or rather, Dennison was nervous. Vox's alter ego urged him to leave and return to somewhere more peaceful, and while Vox agreed the noise here was horrendous, he would continue to prowl until the whole sector was covered. His left hand up his right hand's sleeve, Vox stayed on alert with his fingers on the remote.

Vox immediately stopped in his tracks, having a few people behind bump into him on the pavement. They muttered under their breathes and continued moving. Vox had heard something uncanny. The Rift Rider entered into existence and it emitted a peculiar sound that Vox couldn't help but be intrigued by; it stood above the normal sounds Vox was used to in Eastern Wing City. Moving towards the source of the unordinary sound, Vox tuned into the voices of two people and what would've been the heartbeats of three. Interested by their conversation and what intent they might have, Vox hid out of sight amidst a crowd with his hood held low and listened close.
If they were to plan a terrorist attack of sorts, Wing City's Vox would be ready to scream. If not, it's not like they'd know.

Chal's ear twitched and she turned around, examining the throngs of people that all walked past. It would be hard to find Dev in a city this big, and then there was the matter of the millions of people that inhabited it. She stretched and sighed. It was going to be a long day. She closed her eyes and began to just listen to the city; the roar, and hum of the motors; the many people talking, and walking all around her, and the thousands of other creatures, and things that made sound around her. She opened her eyes again, and for some reason she felt like she was being watched. She shrugged that feeling off, and turned back to the Rift Rider.

The Mechanic turned and stared directly at Vox, Shade meanwhile had wandered off to search for Dev. "Well, seems someone's interested in my Rift Rider" Said The Mechanic. The Mechanic then pushed up his left sleeve and revealed a strange looking gauntlet with a touch pad, he tapped the touch screen and the Rift Rider made a very high-pitched sound just barely out of the range of human hearing, The Mechanic then pulled his sleeve down. "There, locked it and put it on maximum security, that should stop people from snooping around it, anyways I don't have a portable DNA scanner, the only one I own is built into the console of the Rift Rider, anyways, lets start searching, I set it so we would arrive within 10 yards of where Dev is." Said The Mechanic.

((OOC: sorry it took so long to reply, I got grounded from bad grade, luckily got them back up, but they didn't get back up until today, the last day of school for me))

Chal covered her ears and then angrily punched the Mechanic, "What the heck dude. That was freakin' loud. Warn me next time", and then she grabbed the Mechanics hand and dived into the crowd of of people. "Sooo Dev dose not like alcohol, so we will not find him at a bar, is it luch time? Seems like dinner time". She quickly dragged the Mechanic into the center of the crosswalk, "Okay, lets think."

"Sorry, forgot you had extremely good hearing, but anyways I can't keep track of time, time travel and all that, you stop paying attention after a while...not to mention the clouds are so dense that I can't see the sun and even the streetlamps have to be on." Said The Mechanic. The Mechanic then started scratching his chin. "We'll do it the old fashioned way! Just walk around and hope we bump into him...and yes it sounds like a stupid plan but it strangely always works." Said The Mechanic.

Vox decided it was in his best interests to leave the band of strangers alone. His cover was blown, and there wasn't much reason for him to intervene. This talk of 'Neo-Hunters' and 'Forzos'... It seemed a bit too big for what Vox was capable of handling. And the city was his main concern, not the affairs of some mysterious strangers. They could have their privacy.

So Vox departed from the area, heading towards the nearest public transport terminal. He played some smooth jazz for himself, feeling that it provided a nice contrast to the ensemble of crowds and cars. Perhaps he didn't need to find trouble, perhaps it was time that Dennison had some time to himself.

Vercerigo walked into the library, his eyes widening as he saw the vast amounts of books on the shelves. A girl ran past him as he passed, almost shouldering him. That would have been a bit rude. He turned his attention back to the library, and nodded to the librarian. As he walked, he closed his eyes and ran his hand along the spines of a row of books that he passed. He loved the smell and atmosphere of libraries...they were his favourite place in the world.
As he ran his fingers along the books, his fingers brushed against one that was a little more pulled out than the rest. He stopped, opened his eyes, and turned his attention to the book. He gently tugged it out, and, blowing the dust off of it, read the title. "The Clockwork Three". He tilted his head and flipped to a random page. He read a couple lines and smiled. This was going to be a good book. He shut the book with one hand and looked around for a place to sit.

Dennison sits on one of the reading chairs in civilian attire. He has chosen that today shall be dedicated to statistics books regarding criminology. Of course, he just ended up reading old Zorro novelisations. He has a deep fascination with the character, and wishes to learn whether or not the masked vigilante ever existed. Trying to convince himself this was just as valuable as reading the criminology books, he couldn't help but notice the little commotion with the librarian.

Huh.

It wasn't exactly the most incredible thing he'd seen in Wing City, but it was usual that the library would remain rather uneventful. This meant that the hooded being held a very disconcerting presence. It very obviously wasn't human. Then it did the thing with the book, and Dennison couldn't help but close his book and approach the entity.

He spoke quietly and casually.

"If you break it you gotta pay for it."

She stared at the creature, in mostly amazement, as it followed her. She had seen many things, mostly in books, but this one had to be one of the most interesting ones. It had started talking, this time about her computer. She stared at it while she scanned the card than the book. "Ah yes, my brother insisted we turn over a new leaf and try out this bit of technology. If these, Myrkul's Vein people are generous to grace us with something new we, the library, would be so grateful." She smiled up at the creature and gave it its books. She was in amazement as she watched it put the card and book up. "You are indeed an interesting... life form."

She took note of the man in the chair. She tried not to stare too long, since her brother always says it was rude, but it had been an interesting day filled with some interesting beings. She walked away after bowing to both and sat down back into her chair.

Jinhai turned to the humankind, its four flare-eyes bobbing and weaving independently much like the cards mired at the surface of its 'robe'. It looked around and to the sides creating a new identity in the Almanac. The whole of Jinhai would know the face evermore once this individuality returned to Myrkul to amass new memories there.

It said nothing for that long moment until after the four eyes returned to their square formation, "It is not our purpose to remove anything from the Almanac, Humankind. Only Myrkul's Vein may choose to forget. It will be read and added to the Almanac, as you have been."

An flaring oval eye winked out and the leather-looking gloves parted the sea of dusty motes revealing the open book hovering in its interior. A web of black lace holding the book in place as an eye peered up from its duty reading the book inside Jinhai. As the remainder took a triangular formation on its 'head' the singlet swirling grey eye peered at Lolanthe from the inside of its chest then went back to its duties.

"Myrkul's Vein assures the integrity of your works, Attestor Lolanthe, " Its mouthless dusty face said with chest still open, "and permits no damage. Do you possess scroll vellum suitable for us to inscribe a Loci? The egress point in Wing City permits access."

The book flipped a page in Jinhai's chest as the single eye continued reading.

There was a moment of utter dread as the creature remained silent, but upon hearing its response Dennison's feelings of fear turned to intrigue.

"Almanac, right... Sorry bout that. That Almanac wouldn't happen to hold anything about acoustic levitation or advanced slund engineering, would it?"

Dennison held close to the entity as it asked the librarian for whatever a 'Loci' was. Dennison was reminded about how immensely out of proportion he was with the rest of the universe. The creature was taking the information it observed and saving it to some kind of memory storage, as far as he knew from its vague statements.

He also thought it took itself far too seriously. Dennison would wait patiently for the being to complete its business with the librarian to get back to him if at all.

Lolanthe tilted her head she had no idea what the creature was asking for, but she guessed it meant a paper and pen. Though to be sure she asked it, "Do you mean paper and pen?" She asked as she made her way back down the stairs and behind the desk. Disappearing behind the counter she dug for a pen and paper. It only took her a minute to pop back up and place the sheets of paper and a pen on the counter gently.

"I have these, are these good enough? Maybe I can call up a store and see if they have some scrolls, but honestly I don't think anyone in town has them. Maybe one of the mage schools would have some." She said looking up and tapping a finger on her chin as she though. Though a smile once more appeared on her small pale face.

Leaning to the side she spotted the person behind her mysterious guest, "Hi there! Welcome to Wing City Library, how may I help you?" She asked.

Dennison felt a little dejected as the librarian hadn't seemed to recognise him as a regular here. I guess it has been a while, he thought.

Opening his mouth to finally introduce himself to her he said,
"Oh, uh, I'm- "
An oaf of a man loudly interrupted (probably presuming she was speaking to him) and took his place at the desk. The sound of his voice was almost more insulting than the words themselves. He apologised for the wrenching noise but hadn't seemed to take notice of himself or the hooded creature. Still, Dennison allowed himself to be put aside and figured it wasn't that important anyway. His focus was on Jinhai.

"So, about that Almanac, right? There any way you could help me out?" His eyes were determined, and hoping the thing would oblige.
