Diel

When a Takan is 'Recycled', their mind is ripped to shreds. So what happens when those threads are left inside a broken Takan's head?

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Cloasse

Description

Image
General Description
Diel is your regular Takan; tall, somewhat broad-chested, but otherwise with that vaguely 'puppyish' look about him. His hair is a dark brown and is somewhat unruly.

Height
Diel stands at six feet and five inches tall, the average height for a Takan of his age.

Weight
Diel is roughly 209lbs. Here he falls in to the higher than average category, although this added weight in a supposedly 'perfectly cloned' race is due to muscle, not fat.

Personality

Takans are usually docile, submissive and rather meek until their emotions flare. As per usual, Takans are highly susceptible to large flares of emotions. Depending on proximity to, the strength of and the particular nature of a flare in emotions, Takans may respond with anything from a chuckle or laugh for weaker emotions to crying or fainting for the stronger ones.

Diel, as a singular Takan, is quiet. He does not usually like to be disturbed, making local libraries a safe-haven for the male. Recently, however, an odd change has come over him that is rumoured to have something to do with a book entitled 'Gods of the Present'.

As a 'loner', Diel only socialises on occasion. If, however, you find him drunk or 'hyper-active' (male Takans are especially reactive to chocolate), he can be extremely chatty and finds himself disrespecting the 'personal space' rule.

History

Diel was originally sent to Terra to harvest DNA from those who exhibited some decent traits that could be extracted - that idea went out the window when he met Migel.

Since that point, Diel's stalked people, argued with them and consequently been guilted back to his home planet. Unfortunately, it was without what he had been sent for, and the Takan was stripped of all rights, mentally destroyed, physically vandalised and returned to Terra to rot and die.

That didn't quite go to plan either. Now, Diel is broken, perpetually confused and childlike in many ways.

So begins...

There was that utter fear again -- ooh, blood and blades were not encouraging good memories at all!

"That's not good - stopping... no. Not good. Very, very bad - Migel!" That's all he could think of doing right now: shouting for Migel and hoping that the same said Dygon turned up to rescue him. Of course, such things never came so easily, and the Takan made for the door, far paler than he had been on the way in. He'd just have to find Migel himself.

The woman addressed heaved a sigh and hunched over her hot chocolate with a look that suggested she was feeling rather put upon.

"I don't mind at all, no," Mordecai answered with a cheerful, if tired, smile. "It's a public place, after all. I'm Mordecai. That's Romanae. She's tired and therefore twice as grouchy as usual."

"Bastard."

A broken mind was a strange thing to walk around with and as far as Diel was concerned, his mind was barely a former shadow of the wall it had been, although he couldn't quite remember what that giant wall had felt like. He could sort of remember the pain that'd been involved in the process of tearing it down, which was probably why he liked wandering into this bar. It was interesting and distracting, so no thoughts of destruction and rebuilding could even get through to his addled brain.

"Hm..." The Takan (as broken as he was, he was still a recycled man) walked over to the bar counter, jittery and considering each syllable before he spoke. "Hm... I - like tea..?"

The Takan frowned. That wasn't right. That didn't sound good at all!

Blinking (all too confused already, he'd barely been here minutes and his brain was struggling to keep up), Diel considered the pale man as he slowly picked the spoken words apart. "I..? I would. Mhm, would like a cup of tea," he repeated, face the picture of concentration (much like a child, really, and just like a child he'd get frustrated too).

"Would... like a cup of tea." Those were the words, yes. "Cup." This speaking lark was going to have to get easier someday. It had to. He had memories, vague as they were, of speaking in perfect sentences! To Migel, no less, he must've sounded so smart and now... Now he couldn't remember the word for... for...

The Takan nodded, internally searching for a word that likely didn't exist in the language he was thinking in. "Name... me? My name." He knew that. He knew exactly what his name was. It was trapped in there somewhere.

The confused male ducked his head somewhat, brow furrowed. "El." That felt familiar. "On?" But that was familiar too. "Elon? Onel?" No, no, those were all wrong! "Di." That was... that was good. "Diel. Dion. One..?" Both of those were right, though. He could be a Diel and a Dion... "Migel?" No, no. Not a Migel - he talked to Migel, not as Migel. "Di."

Diel kept his eyes on the floor. Other people knew his name better than he did - the feeling that invoked was not a positive one, not a positive one at all. He could feel it burning under his skin, heating up the flesh that wasn't at all used to such things as frustrated flushes.

"Sorry." He'd learned that word early on. The nurses at the hospital, they'd been very sympathetic. Very nice and comforting, but the word 'sorry' had been bandied about so often when he'd tried to speak, to ask questions.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry..."

"Confused," Diel answered honestly. "Lost. Takan. Not Migel..." Yep. That seemed about right. He was a confused, lost Takan. He wasn't Migel, though. So, yeah. He was very sure that those were all very good words in answer to the question.

Still, he wasn't sure, so he raised his head by inches and traded the opportunity to wait out the pink flush in secret for the chance to see if he'd got the answers correct.

"Right?"

"Lost... confused, mhm. New?" Was he new? He supposed he was, compared to some Takans. The people in charge were as old as the planet itself, according to legend. "Tea?" There was tea? Diel looked towards the bar, head tilted and face taking on an upset expression. Had he even asked for tea?

"Sorry..." He couldn't even remember asking for it! "Sorry - I don't - can't... words."

Diel froze. That was all he did. He was confused, his mind was lost, wandering through mazes of memories and words that just didn't make any sense, and he was quite simply terrified.

Diel didn't like being scared. Not like this, not when it wasn't a funny scared. This was a scary scared and he didn't know what to do...

He had asked for tea - was the tea here? Did he ask for tea?

If any of the three now involved in the quickly escalating fight were looking to scare one another, they were certainly succeeding - at scaring Diel, at least. The Takan's face had lost the little colour that he'd ever had, and it wouldn't be an outright to say it looked as if Diel himself was too far from crying.

Perhaps childish and insane weren't too far off the mark as far as Diel was concerned...

Diel left; his writer isn't impressed.
