Vanessa stood up after sinking her own shot, and felt a pair of arms slip around her waist.

"What are you wasting your time with this loser for, babe?" Dominique Bastien asked. "Didn't you hear him? He's too good for us."

He sniffed at her hair.

"I'm not your babe, Bastien, and if you don't take your arms off me you're going to be missing that bean sized pecker you call a dick come morning," she warned him.

"Hey now," he said as he backed up holding his arms in a mock display of surrender. "No need for any of that..."

With Bastien providing an ample distraction, Marc dropped a beefy hand down onto Bowen's shoulder. Should Bowen turn around Marc was lined up to sucker punch him to get in the first hit.

None too amused at being utilized as a distraction Vanessa drove an elbow back into Bastien's gut while he was still too close to avoid it. He grunted and doubled over and she turned and shoved him back against the wall with the pool cue pressed lengthwise across his throat to make sure he didn't join the fray. Bowen was on his own with Marc though.

The grating sound of a chair being pushed back from a table sounded as another member of the pack rose from his seat. Snow had been treating Vanessa's interactions with Bowen with disinterest until now, but as violence began to erupt, he downed the remainder of his drink, and got to his feet. The white-haired werewolf wasn't as large or intimidating as Marc, but he stared him down without seeming to be remotely cowed by that fact.

"Marc," he called sharply, narrowing his eyes at the other man, "He's not causing any trouble. Leave it. He knows Baron, let Baron deal with him."

He stepped over towards the pool table, but as of yet made no move to physically intervene.

Lost in thought and ancient memories Bowen did not react as he would have, as he should have, or as his decades of military training and muscle memory would have had him act. He turned to face Marc to his right, also Marc's as the other man had touched his right shoulder with his right hand. Marc's strike, a left hook came across his body, and across his right arm as it retreated from Bowen's shoulder. The blow slammed into the right side of Bowen's face with enough force to spin his head back around.

To his credit Bowen did not fall. He did not even stumble away. If Marc didn't press the attack Bowen would turn back around and bring his right hand up to his jaw as if to mock Marc. There was no rage in Bowen's eyes. In fact he had the look of someone who was victorious and he had not even thrown a punch. It was then that Snow called out to Marc and if afforded a moment Bowen would lean his pool cue against a nearby wall.

When and if Marc pressed the attack he would find his follow up blows deflected. The movements of Bowen's body, his shoulders, arms, and hands pushed blows wide and to the outside. The tactic had the side effect of unbalancing Marc and opening up the centerline of his body for precise swift jabs to the bridge of his nose. The first or second jab would bloody Marc's nose, a psychological victory for Bowen.

If Marc threw more than a few more punches and did not back off Bowen would follow up one jab with another swift strike to Marc's Larynx. The interruption in Marc's breathing would likely cause him to reach for his own throat to which Bowen would respond by boxing Marc's ears with the flats of his hands. This would provide Bowen plenty of time to finish the larger man but he didn't. He was taking away Marc's senses one by one. Bowen would back away and let Marc recover if he could.

Despite his massive size, Marc wasn't quite the untrained thug that he might at first appear. Instead of wild and reckless, his swings where controlled, and Bowen would have a hard time exposing him up as he fought with an intuitiveness that came with years of conditioning. Bowen got a few licks in, but nothing solid as Marc leaned his head back out of their path as if he could anticipate which ones he wasn't in a position to deflect.

Bowen's precise blows had caught him off guard as he hadn't expected the stranger to have the military training he appeared to have. He was on his guard now though and from the way he centered his weight and kept his arms squared off to his body, Marc seemed to have some measure of training himself. Military perhaps? Or law enforcement. It was difficult to say where he had learned to fight, but he was a man who knew how to control his size and strength.

Meanwhile strong arms locked around Venessa and pulled her off from Bastien much to her ire.

"Keep her out of this," he told the man holding her before turning to point a finger at Snow. "And you keep out of this too, Snow."

He straightened his shirt before picking up a pool cue from the table and giving it a quick examination.

"Baron's going to have your ass for this, Bastien," Vanessa warned.

"Baron's not here, babe," he replied smuggly before moving in to take a wild swing for Bowen's back with it.

Most of the people in the room seemed content to simply observe, rather than join the fray. In fact, money was exchanging a few hands as quick bets where being laid.

Bastien would find his attempt to strike Bowen in the back with a pool cue futile. Bowen had followed his location through his peripheral so Bastien was forced to come at Bowen from his right side. Bowen was still trading light blows with Marc who he had initially wrote off as a common thug and now realized had some close quarters training. Though for his part, Bowen wasn't really using anything more than basic defensive techniques honed through decades, nay, centuries of practice. When Bastien came in with the cue wound up and ready to swing it forced Bowen to step back and disengage with Marc.

He caught Bastien's wrist at the start of the man's swing. Using his momentum he twisted the man's hand down violently with enough force to break the arm at the wrist. With a pull and a twist of his hips, he would send Bastien sprawling to the floor between the two fighters and the cue clattering and then rolling away, across the floor. Bowen stepped around Bastien which also put some distance between Marc and him.

Bastien rolled on the floor with a groan, holding his broken wrist as Bowen stepped away from him. A few others moved to intervene as Bowen seemed to be holding his own, but a scathing glare from Marc set them back.

The message was clear. This was between him and Bowen now.

Bastien on the other hand, didn't quite get the message. As he saw the smug look in Vanessa's eyes, his own turned to a wolfish golden hue. There was a sound akin to a growl in his throat as he grabbed an abandoned beer bottle that had rolled up against the leg of one of the pool tables.

He smashed it against the pool table leg and made it to one knee as he eyed Bowen up for an opening.

A solid kick impacted Bastien's side before he could move in on the fight, as Snow stepped forwards upon the shattering of glass. He followed Bastien to the floor, grabbing the wrist holding the bottle and shoving it into the floor as he made to pin him down. "Drop the bottle, Bastien, you've gone far enough. This is between Marc and the newcomer." he snarled, his own eyes - themselves perpetually wolfish - meeting the other's feral stare.

Much as he disdained the manner in which this fight had begun, if Bowen was rising to the challenge, he wasn't going to intervene between him and Marc. But Bastien was another matter. "I would have hoped my packmate had more balls than to resort to a broken bottle from behind. That's a coward's tactic."

He moved a bit farther from Bastien least the enraged wolf free himself from Snow. At this point about three meters separated Bowen and Marc. Bowen relaxed his stance ever so slightly. "I did not come here to prove anything. I am just here to talk with Baron and for a drink.", he said calmly. Bowen's breathing came slow and even as if he had been at rest the whole time. He was in his element. Sweet adrenaline coursed through his veins but to those watching him he was still cool, calm, and collected. He was acutely aware of the pack instinct. He knew they were chomping at the bit to protect their pack mates, Marc and Bastien. It was a driving instinct that a few were resisting because of a code of ethics, morality, and/or some illusion of honor.

He trained every day of his life. His welfare, his life, and the lives of those who served under him depended on his physical and mental performance in the face of adversity and extreme violence. Bowen had obtained peak physical fitness and maintained that level for decades and it did show subtely in this fight. If the fight continued it would be indisputable. He was a trained killer, that made a life out of killing those that needed to be put down.

On a lighter note: He even had plans to travel to Wing City this coming summer to take part in the second annual Asland Ninja Warrior competition. Of course he would be running the courses against a handicap. He was happy about it even if he had to run those courses against a handicap.

He really had no reason to advance on Marc. So he waited and if Marc wanted to close the distance again the fight would shift into something much more brutal, much more violent than the previous engagement. Eventually Bowen's constant training and experience would produce an opening that could be capitalized on and this opening would result in a strike to a vulnerable part of Marc's anatomy. Once the larger werewolf was stunned or disorientated the follow up would be a more permanent and debilitating disable. "Easy...", he said calmly.

It was very possible someone was going to walk away from this fight with a permanent limp and it wasn't going to be Bowen unless Marc got extremely lucky, decided to up the ante with a weapon, or shifted.

The fight was short, and brutal. Blows where landed by both as they exchanged holds and grapples to try and subdue the other while ribs and faces absorbed the jarring impacts of fists. Marc had size and weight on his side, and the advantage seemed in his favor, until Bowen ended it with a decisive strike.

The crack of bone was audible even over Marc's shout of pain and anger. The damage to the knee was furthered as he came down hard on it, adding the impact of his own weight to the already damaged joint.

It drew more sounds of pain that he bit off through clenched teeth as he held himself up on the edge of a pool table.

With Marc down though, there was no one to keep the rest at bay. Bowen would find himself alone, in a bar full of hostile wolves that were weighing up the risk of moving in on him.

Baron's return from his run likely couldn't have been timed better as the massive black furred wolf shoved the door open to pad inside. He threw his head from side to side, a warning glance to anyone thinking of continuing the confrontation. His steps stopped beside Marc as he took in the situation. Two of his wolves where down, with Snow atop one of them and a piece of broken glass discarded on the floor beside them.

His fur rapidly receded and Baron stood up from the floor.

"What's going on here?" he demanded.

"Marc and Bastien bit off more than they could chew," Vanessa bit out. "That's what happened."

The wolf holding her restrained let her go now that it seemed that the fight was over and she brushed her arms off indignantly.

Baron was well aware of Bastien's behavioral problems, and Marc's unwillingness to pass up a fight, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to sort out what was going on.

"Get them to the hospital," he stated bluntly.

A couple of onlookers moved in to help Marc and Bastien to their feet and from the bar.

Snow stepped back from Bastien as Baron intervened, and moved to slip back to his seat in the crowd. He wanted little part in anything that was to come next. Baron's business with this newcomer was his own.

Unless otherwise addressed, he simply took his seat and ordered another drink. It was over, and time to go back to solemnly brooding.

He turned to Vanessa as she laid blame and then to Snow as he returned to his seat in the crowd. Bowen fixed his collar and yanked his shirt free of his pants as it had been neatly tucked in before and the tussle with Marc had pulled half the fabric free already.

Though he had seemed to be enjoying the fight as it happened caught by the slight and subtle smirk at the corner of his lips. This had been a ruse to infuriate his attackers and a reaction of his own self confidence. Now that the fight was over there was not a hint of it remaining. After Marc and Bastien were pulled to their feet and then helped out of the bar Bowen would speak softly to Baron.

"I need a word with you concerning Ardelean.", said Bowen in a soft tone and with a serious look on his face.

Bowen gave no apology for the damage done to Marc or Bastien as he felt he had nothing to apologize for and to do so would only show weakness. On the flip side he did not necessarily expect an apology from Marc, Bastien, or anyone else as to apologize for one's nature or someone else's actions would be foolish. It was the rule of the strong, common in many packs he had encountered, something he was intimately familiar with, and something that was sometimes at odds with the world as it got smaller and society became kinder and gentler. In many packs this was the case and he had experienced it first hand from his birth into the world and again when he first howled to the moon. He had not always been the lone wolf he was today. His long since dead liege was not the last to betray him.

"Maybe Snow. He's one of our best trackers... but without anything to track..."

She picked the phone up unsure who to try contacting. She didn't even have Snow's number...

Her thumb played over the keypad before she resolved to put aside her personal feelings on the matter for the time being. A minute later she had the phone to her ear.

Once the call connected Bowen would likely only catch her side of the brief, and somewhat terse conversation.

"Bastien?"

"Yeah, it's me."

"What does it matter whose phone I'm calling you from?"

"Look... just..."

She hesitated.

"Bastien, Sophia's missing."

"Since this morning..."

Silence passed for a few seconds.

"Look, I'm telling you now, alright? Just... get over here, and bring anyone who can help look for her."

She sighed and slid the phone back across the table to Bowen.

He took the phone back. He did not show it but he was surprised that Bastien had yet to hear about the disappearance of Sophia. He had pieced together that one of the men he had fought at the Den on that same night he had first met Vanessa was Sophia's father. Given her daughter's fair skin he had known that Bastien was the father as the other wolf he had fought had a much darker complexion. While his first impression of the man had been terrible he thought it a shame that Vanessa had yet to contact him. Bastien had as much of a right to know that his daughter was missing as she did.

Bowen just grimaced in response, not speaking his thoughts once she hung up the phone. "They won't listen to me Vanessa. Someone will have to take charge and be willing to at least listen to what is said." He sipped his tea after it was brought to him.

Bowen and pulled up with Léon in the car with him just a block down from the hotel. Behind them and in another car Claire and and Chandler pulled up. A vagrant had spent his last bit of change to call in. He had apparently seen Alek. The four exited their cars, Claire and Chandler walking forward to stand with Bowen and Léon at the front of the lead vehicle.

He had already forwarded this lead to Snow's phone but had decided to check on it himself as he had been close to the location and it was one of the better leads they had gotten thus far. He turned to Chandler. "Sweep the hotel." The man nodded and shut his eyes. "Give me a few minutes. She is being uncooperative.", he said in response.

Bastien's car pulled up behind the VINDEX operatives not long after they arrived. The passenger door swung open and Snow climbed out, nodding to Bowen in greeting. "I'm assuming this is a good lead, since so many of you are here." he said, looking up at the hotel. "A hotel's not exactly where I would have expected to find him. The staff must not ask very many questions."

Bastien glared daggers at Bowen as he got out of the vehicle, but if there was a chance of finding Sophia, he would keep his personal issues in check for the time being.

"Do we even know that this Alek took her?" he asked.

He was skeptical, and it could just as easily have been a rival pack. Though... they had received no demands for her return if that where the case.

"Does it really matter?" Julienne answered as she exited the back seat of the vehicle. "This fuck-face has been killing supernaturals all over the city."

She all but spat her words out, still itching for a fight after the shit that had gone down with the pack the other night.

Claire grabbed her rifle from the trunk of her car. "Let's stop the chit-chat, shall we? We have a little girl to find. This is our biggest lead, and I'm not about to let it slide." The vampire glared back at Bastien. "We're here to work together. If you're going to get in the way, I won't hesitate to cuff all of you. Do I make myself clear?"

Snow gave Claire an unimpressed look, "We're here to work together, yes. Not for you. With you. Threats aren't a good start."

"Give it a minute.", Bowen interrupted. "We are looking around the hotel now.", he said in response to the lights flickering outside the hotel lobby. Chandler was completely still leaning against the hood of the car with his eyes shut and his arms crossed. Léon withdrew his pistol and checked it.

Nodding, Snow turned and made his way around to the back of the car, gesturing to Bastien, who tossed him the keys. He swung the boot open and reached in, pulling out a shotgun and a pouch of cartridges that he fastened to his belt. A second shotgun he tossed across to Bastien, then swung the boot shut. He checked the safety on his weapon before stepping back onto the pavement and shooting Chandler a glance. "Useful trick." he remarked.

"Maybe when we're through here, you can suck on my dick," Bastien answered Claire as he checked that the shotgun was loaded. Once done he rested it on his shoulder waiting for Bowen to ascertain what was in the hotel. Though he seemed inclined to coordinate with the VINDEX for the sake of Sophia, it was clear he had little mind to take lip from them.

The woman's eyes shifted from hazel to a muddy blood red at Bastian's comment. "I'm pretty sure, neither one of us would enjoy that." Claire responded, her accent thick and with a slight seductive air to it.

She turned to Snow. "It's not a threat. Just a warning. We want to ensure the safety of the child first and foremost. And I know there is bad blood between all of us. If that will be a problem, I will take care of it the one way I know how."

"Of course Sophia comes first," Snow replied, "but keep your warnings to yourself. We're not the ones causing trouble here."

"Well, anything?" Julienne demanded, ever the impatient one.

Lights flickered across the second floor. "Patience...", said Bowen. Chandler went rigid then and the temperature dropped sharply, sharply enough that their breath trailed vapor. Chandler spoke but it was not his voice. His voice was haunting and had an underlying female tone as if he spoke with two voices. "The girl is in room 204 with the vampire you seek. She has been tortured with a knife and yet she is still among the living.", he said as claw marks raked his neck and cheeks, sending rivulets of blood to drip down his skin. "They sit awake."

"We'll need to get Sophia away from him before we try and take him out." Snow said, "The rooms can't be big. If things get messy, she needs to be safe."

A large red wolf moved out onto the street and approached the group before stopping several paces away. As its fur receded, Vanessa stood up from the ground where the wolf had been a moment ago.

"I can do that," Vanessa said. "She's my daughter."

She had been tailing Bowen two days now, and even slept in the alley outside the VINDEX building to catch him leaving today, always with an ear out for leads that she picked up from him talking to other members of the VINDEX.

Several she had arrived at ahead of Bowen, only to be disappointed. Impatience and frustration had driven her to abandoning both the police and the packs insistence that she remain at home, but her efforts had all come up empty.

Bowen took off his coat and held it so that Vanessa could slip into it. He then moved to the trunk of his car, opened it, and after rooting around he pulled out a small metal cylinder with holes, a spoon, and a pin. He tossed it in the air and caught it again after it did a single flip. It was a flash bang.

He pulled out a pistol and offered it to Vanessa before he pulled his own hand gun, checked it, chambered a round, and putting it back in his holster. "Let's go then.", he said and shut the trunk.

Room 204 grew cold as the werewolves made their way into the hotel and climbed the stairs to the second floor. The bathroom light flickered and then there was a whisper so quite that Sophia would wonder if it was in her own head. "Your mommy and daddy are coming. Close your eyes now little one. Don't peek.", said the female voice in her ear.

As they walked up the stairs Bowen spoke. "Léon you have the door. Wait for the flash. Rush in and as long as Sophia is clear fill this fucker full of lead. Who's in first?", Bowen asked.

"I can." Snow said, "I'll draw his attention. Vanessa should come in after me to grab Sophia."

They came to the door quietly. Léon took one side and Bowen the other. He tapped Snow on the left shoulder and tugged him lightly so he stood beside him on their side of the door with everyone else behind him. He gave Snow the thumbs up and a questioning glance and did the same with each person behind him.

He then turned back to Léon who was on the other side of the door before taking up the flash bang, pulling the pin, but holding the spoon. He stuck three fingers up slightly above his head. One went down and Léon clenched his jaw as his eyes shifted to a yellow hue. The second finger went down and Léon shifted his weight and pivoted. The third finger dropped and he sent his foot at the door to push it in.

As the door caved in Bowen tossed in the flash bang, pulled his pistol, and averted his eyes. Léon pulled back around his side of the door. Crack, Boom. The room filled with light and a deafening crack.

Alek grinned as he heard the door crash open. He closed his eyes and jumped from his chair in the attempts to make it behind the counter. After the initial deafening sound, he remained silent, reaching into his coat to pull out both pistols. The floors were old and vibrated with every step. He would wait until he felt them moving into the room.

He had expected this to come eventually.

As soon as the flash went off, Snow rushed into the room with his gun raised. He immediately spotted Sophia at the far end of a counter-top to his left. He could smell the vampire behind it, closer to them, and he turned on the spot to aim the weapon straight at his hiding spot to give Vanessa cover to run through and grab Sophia.

Vanessa moved in after Snow, her eyes locked onto Sophia. She moved swiftly, trusting in Snow and the others to engage Alek. Her only goal was to reach Sophia. The door leading to the bathroom was her destination.

Sophia was disoriented by the flash bang, but Vanessa had her in arm as she threw her shoulder into the door to knock it open.

Once inside she set Sophia down, crouched over her as she tried to get the chains loose.

"Stay down," she told her daughter. "Whatever happens, stay down."

Bastien was next, moving into the room and circling around the counter that Snow was aiming at, to try and get a bead on Alek with his shotgun while Vanessa disappeared into the bathroom.

The counter acted only as concealment for the storm of bullets that would soon be descending on Alek. Bowen and Léon came in quick on Snow, Vanessa, and Bastien's heels and the moment Sophia was clear the bullets started to fly. Léon was the first to squeeze the trigger and send rounds to the base of the counter. Snow too opened fire, aiming for where he believed Alek to be hiding. He couldn't pinpoint the vampire's exact location by smell alone, but there wasn't a whole lot of counter to cover considering the number of firearms in the room.

The man felt the floors shift with Snow entered the room and prepared to act. However, the first bullet fired caused him to move faster than he anticipated, as it hit his right shoulder. Hissing in pain, he scrambled up taking two more bullets in the ribs, ducking low so he could still use some cover of the counter. He made a run for the window, and firing blindly to the side as he sped past. If he made it to the window, he would jump through it.

Alek would be met with Bastien blocking his path as the werewolf came around the end of the counter, his shotgun pointed at Alek's chest.

His eyes where a swirl of amber as he pulled the trigger, aiming for center mass.

Meanwhile, in the bathroom Vanessa had given up on the chains for the time being as gunfire erupted in the other room. She instead shielded Sophia as they both lay there on the floor, and she kept her hands pressed to her daughters ears as she waited for the inevitable silence that would mean an end to the fight.

Alek bared his teeth at Bastien and and skidded to the left slightly, but not enough. The gun shot grazed his right side and Alek growled in pain, but didn't slow down. He lowered his shoulder down, grabbing Bastien into a bear hug around his waist at full speed, pushing the man through the window, falling through with him. Both men would free fall from the second floor.

Bowen had emptied his weapon and charged Alek as he lunged at the window. Bastien hitting him with the shotgun put him off balance and delayed him just enough to allow him to hook the killer's collar and go out the window with them. He dropped his pistol as he fell and was forced to release Alek. He tucked and rolled through landing, pivoted, and while rising he drew out a thirteen inch khukuri that had been sitting laterally at his belt and across his back in a brown case.

Alek was already starting to rise but would be met with the slash of a high grade carbon steel and silvered blade that could easily be classified as a short sword or a long knife and that had enough weight to hack through a limb with a strong swing.

As Bastien, Bowen and Alek tumbled out the window, Snow rushed over to it to look out and down at them. "The vampire's out front!" he yelled to Vanessa, loud enough to make sure Claire and Julienne heard him from outside the apartment as well, "Take Sophia out the back entrance and get her out of here, I'm going down after them!"

After a moment to survey the descent, Snow strapped his weapon onto his back and vaulted out the window, catching himself on the windowsil rather than freefalling, and making a far more controlled descent than the others to the ground below.
