a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Patcharoo

Description

A beautiful man with an intense look in his eyes and a deep devotion to god. He seems more intelligent than the average man, and less well humoured. His sharpness is perhaps his most notable feature, which often offsets his beauty.
Image

Personality

A devout individual not one to give in to temptation. While he has hatred towards non-humans he tends to be diplomatic and sensible. He has been chaste his entire life, quoting that he needs no love of a woman, only the love of god. As such, he often seems very impersonal, but it is just in his nature.

Equipment

Oftenly Dominique is complimented as blessed by god for his gifts with the sword and horse mounted combat, but this has come from training his entire life to be a warrior of god.

History

Dominique came from a rich family, brought up to be devout to god. While his mother wished him to be a priest his father wanted him to be a knight. The church was the one who presented a compromise. Both his families wealth and the churches influence lead to him being well educated.

The paladin raised an unpleasant sneer to his face. "A shapeshifter," he said, a hint of distaste in his voice. "Move on. Maybe they will know not to attack men of god in the future." One or two of the guards shared a glance, but they continued. The blade was still drawn and none wished to challenge their leader.

The men, under orders, continued on, their horses trotting away.

The leader dropped off of his horse smoothly, walking right past Sieana's hiding place on his path towards the gnoll. His men hung back for the moment, waiting for any commands. He crouched down slightly to meet the gnolls height and offered out a hand. "Ah, ze gnoll that stirred up the village, no? Do not fear, I 'ave no 'atred for you. Ze villagers are simple people." He straightened up, hand still extended and Fangspirit cautiously accepted it, climbing to his feet.

The man patted the gnoll on the head like a dog. "It would be best if you stay out of trouble. We can overlook zis occurance once, maybe twice, but if it keeps 'appening, we will 'ave to chase you away."

The man swept around gracefully, foot moving into a fighting stance and hand moving at once to his sword, though it lifted the moment he realised who he was facing. The man was obviously a trained swordsman. "Ah," he said, "You must be ze drow?" It was a polite inquiry, one he didn't need answering. He took two sweeping steps towards Sieana. "I do not believe your treatment was fair, but as I cannot stop them from 'ating you, nor can I patrol every village at once, all I can do is offer my apologies for your troubles."

The mans head tilted thoughtfully, though he seemed to react calmly to the hissing. "Might I see the face of the person I am to address? It is difficult to further relations if I cannot see your eyes. After all, we are all gods creatures, yes?"

Fangspirit hopped awkwardly past the man, heading towards Sieana, mistaking this as a sign of actual friendship. He was slightly clueless, oftenly true to his more beatial nature.

The mans hand momentarily raised to his chest, a previously bored expression subtly disappearing as his eyes widened and his nostrils flared with a sudden intake of breath. He quietly uttered something under his breath in French. "Let me further our human drow relations through introductions," he offered, bowing and silently exhaling at the same time.

"I am Dominique Gaspard, a paladin of ze church. Zese are my loyal men."

There was a dangerous hint of something in the paladins eyes, a certain level of alertness that didn't go with his passive movements. He was watching her like a hawk, studying her. His eyes sharply zigzagged from left to right over her facial features, as if he wished to commit them to memory. "Sieana," he said, exhaling as he spoke, "I promise you zat you are safe in zis forest and nearby lands so long as you do not cause any trouble. I will personally ensure that you are left unharrassed."

He remained calm the entire time, diplomatic, as if this was just a facade he put up before politicians, which was strange as Sieana was hardly representing anyone. He had seemed to pity the gnoll more than anything, but with Sie it was different. Something deeper.

The man was moving once again, back to his horse and past Sieana. He drew dangerous close to her, but not close enough to actually brush against her as he passed. "If you want my permission you may 'ave it." His face was unmoving the entire time, even the subtler giveaways having disappeared. "Gods me do not fear for their lives, for they know their deaths take them to 'eaven."

Dominique's eyes studied Sie for a moment further uncertainty briefly marking his features as he passed and arrived back at his horse. He paused for a moment at its side before he mounted. "I will keep an eye on you, to ensure you stay safe," he said, voice making it sound like a promise. With a gesture of his hand he directed to his men to start moving. He waited for a moment, watching the drow still.

Fangspirit did nothing but whine as they brought him back to the cage after questioning. He didn't seem hurt, just upset, ears folded back and eyes wide like your average dog. He was a poor gnoll for sure.

The guard moved to Sie's cage, opening it and indicating across the camp. It was a small camp, just for the soldiers really, other than the one large tent for Dominique himself. That was the tent Sie was directed to. The man himself would be seated, one knee folded over the other, piercing gaze set firmly on the entrance. He maintained a neutral face, always.

Dominique rose to his feet, raising one hand to calmly brush aside the hair that was blocking his otherwise pleasant features. "I agree entirely. Ze moment you are proven innocent you will be allowed to leave or stay in one of the tents. Unless," he said, turning his head to the side, then back to Sieana in one movement.

"You are guilty. In which case I can 'ave no mercy for you." He folded his arms.

"You were safe on ze promise that you in turn would cause no trouble," the paladin said, arms unfolding as he took two steps towards Sieana. For a moment he studied her features, nostrils flaring as they had before, eyes locked onto the womans face. "If you assure me you are innocent and ze woman will testify to such a promise, you will be freed to go."

"Do you hold confidence in her to do so?"

Dominique let his hands slip down to his sides. "So, ze woman, without provocation, dropped to ze floor and began screaming of her own will, and then stood up and silent when we arrived?" He continued to stare, without condescention in his voice. He just reamined terribly... neutral. In his voice. It was eerie.

The man turned sidewards, head aimed upwards as he looked to the light for answers. Finally he spoke, head still tilted upwards. "I wish to believe you, but I cannot. Not without proof. The gnoll has proven too basic and primitive to provide any real answers. I wish to give you a better choice, should this womans story turn against you."

He walked towards Sieana, eyes carefully on the drow, though he kept at least one step from her. "I can give you with options. To save you. My men, they will not take your word for innocence over hers, but I can help you."

"I would not reciprocate one crime with another. I would only follow His will," he said, touching a silver cross that dangled loosely from his neck over his clothes. "What I offer iz simple. Give up your faith in your false gods and follow the true God. My men will not 'arm a fellow Catholic."

"I have more options if you do not wish to follow zis path," he said, with a hint of displeasure finally in his voice.

Dominique's eyebrows immediately dropped flat, unimpressed at her refusal. He now held a cold stare directed straight for the drow, and it was taking all his years of careful training to be civil in front of his lords and ladies not to snarl or even smirk. "Your other option," he said, with weight on the word, "Is to find a favourable guard in this camp and appeal to them. If you show an interest in a man of God the others will be merciful." He tried his hardest, but one eyebrow quirked upwards as he finished speaking.

"You would not need to give up your god, only pretend." His nose sniffed outwards sharply as he turned about to stare at her. "I have wine brought to me daily," he said, "And cheese, and meats. I have the finest of things around me despite being in a forest. You would not suffer. You would be comfortable." Dominique seemed to be slipping, speaking slightly more rapid and almost sounding as if he was trying to win her over with each word.

The man sharply straightened, one arm brushing immediately down his front. "Nothing," he answered, eyes sharply flicking to her, "Other than the comfort that I may sleep at night without the uncertainty of condemning an innocent woman to suffering." It was a lie, one that was only given away by his actions immediately before he spoke. It was a complete mood change, from buying her over to neutrality once more.

"Ze... truth?" he said carefully, eyes scanning back and forth across her features with short sharp precise eye movements. He strode past her, for the entrance of his tent to look outside and make sure no one was near before turning around to confront the drow. "You. Fascinate. Me."

"No," insisted Dominique, "It is not your flesh or your race." His eyes flashed up and down her body, head tilting as if to make his point that he was not looking at that. "It is you." He was now close, head leant forward a bare foot away from Sieana's. He was looking for proximity.

Sharp as always the paladin realised he had overstepped the bounds of comfort and at once straightened up. "The moment I saw your face I felt something I 'ad not felt before. I do not question the rare occasions that emotion strikes me so strongly. But if my offer is refused I ask you to forget zis conversation," he said, voice growing steadily firmer.

Dominique turned away. "This still stands," he answered immediately. "But I see why I keep my emotions so firmly held. A slip like this could 'ave caused real damage in another place. 'Ere? None at all. I will escort you back to your cage."

FangSpirit had been taken out of his cage to talk to behind one of the tents where he could not be seen, only for the cry to go out a few minutes later of; "Men! The gnoll is escaping!" Men rushed outwards. Later they dragged a body back, a man apparently stabbed with his own knife. Dominique retired to his tent to brood for some time. He didn't come to Sie until the next day, a much softer look than he had held the day before, though there was still that icy chill in his eyes.

"No," said Dominique plainly, no emotion given away on his face, "My men are riders and fighters. They are not hunters and trackers." As always his voice held that heavy accent. Sometimes it seemed like he wasn't trying to hide it. "And the woman, before she left-" she had gone without even approaching the cages with a man clad in black, "-gave a damning report."

"I am sorry."

The man nodded. "I indeed know that it is false, but I cannot use your word against hers. But I can offer you some lenience. You are boxed in, and my men expect a rigorous trial followed by punishment. Many of them do not even suspect a trial. I will hold it off, citing that we need the gnoll before we can continue. That will buy you a few days to make up your mind." He spoke carefully as always, face holding that neutral gaze that seemed to just bore into your head.
