Dr.Sin

The best cure is death, but I'll try to be unique.

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by generalmaelik

Description

The Doctor is a shade, an undead creature made of darkness and sheer willpower. Sin's eyes are shining orbs of white brilliance and his indistinct shape can barely pass for humanoid. While his mouth is visible it's not something one would care to look at with it's noxious green glow. Other than that though he's fairly plain, as he likes it, with only one article of clothing on his body and that would be of a very very old doctors coat, possibly Victorian but one couldn't be sure.

The fellow is of course a doctor, one who is equally skilled in the physical side of the practice and the magical, but he prefers the formal as it's more reliable and easier to understand. He's not a fighter of any sort but that shouldn't knock down anybody's guard, if he wants somebody dead more than likely they end up that way. Shades are incredibly clever and deceptive blighters.

Personality

Sin was known in life for his sadistic bastard ways, but was given grudging respect for his medical expertise. The Doctor took his profession deadly serious and anybody who came to him for help would receive it, although if they weren't grateful they'd probably find themselves visiting him more often than was normal. He has no real hatreds held for anybody, not even the man who killed him. He only really detests stupid people. His likes are hard to understand, most of which would probably seem boring or creepy. That's not to say he doesn't know how to have fun, it just means that it isn't exactly highest on his list of priorities. Sin is a sociable enough person, he has manners and etiquette befitting that of an English gentleman, he knows how to act around others and with his vast intellect he can manipulate plenty of situations to his favor.

Equipment

Sin doesn't wear much of anything except his ripped and torn doctor coat stained black over the years from various situations. Aside from that all he really has to his name is a large sack filled with medical equipment and an unusual looking dagger. If asked about it he'll usually just hint that some patients are more difficult to deal with than others.

History

Working during the time of the Bubonic Plague the doctor was a busy man, one who found himself the only effective practitioner in his entire region. While he lived he was a respected doctor, though a hated man, his selective mannerisms were displayed only on a few occasions, all during his off hours which were rare at best. Constantly visited by the unfortunate souls either sickened or injured the man barely got any rest, and while his dedication to his profession was admirable, the man was a sour bastard with a short temper. He couldn't stand the ignorant, stupidity was his one true dislike and to a man so gifted with knowledge he found everyone as moronic as the average village fool. To add to this he was a suspected warlock wanted by the local Inquisitors and while the rumors were only just that they gave many a man a worried feeling walking into his place of business.

One late night after attending to yet another plague victim Sin was visited by a desperate looking duo. One of the men was supporting the other who seemed to have suffered from severe burns, but the flesh was greyed where there were no burn marks and his eyes held only a deadened, soulless void. The doctor had never seen anything like it, and attempted to tell the dirty but still healthy man that there was probably little he could do about this. But the man would have none of it, evidently he was a soldier from the nearby country that was being ravaged by a civil war. Pulling out a wicked looking dagger the fighter dropped his injured comrade on the nearest table and demanded the Sin fix him. The doctor really didn't have a choice, no matter how much he wanted to call the guy a slug brained shit head he enjoyed living too much to risk it, so he'd try his damnedest to make sure this particular patient pulled through. During his whole procedure his patient occasionally came out of his emotional stupor to scream in terror of the black flames or the gnashing jaws and the metal skull that they apparently came from. Alas in the end the man couldn't hold on and died with a spasm. To say the least his grief stricken friend didn't take it well, hollering that Sin didn't care if the man died and that he didn't try at all, which pissed the doctor off quite a bit. And to show it he landed a heavy right hook and smashed the guy's nose. It was a poorly thought out action and he received a vicious gut stab in response, which proved to be Sin's death. As he lay there, his life blood spilled out on his clean floor he heard a voice whisper in his head. It was a hoarse, whispering thing and it mocked his fragility, his pitiful mortal body. It offered a new form, a new life but only if the doctor would give it something in return. Of course Sin immediately agreed, his vision fading to black. When he awoke Sin found himself looking down at his own unmoving corpse. It devastated him, he was promised he would live! He was promised to be restored to something greater! And now he was dead. But then again he was looking at his body... did that mean that he was still somehow alive? In answer to his silent question he was greeted by a massive shadow in a corner. The unfurled wings of a monster and the glowing crimson eyes of a demon were the only visible things through the gloom, and it chuckled. The creature explained that Sin was indeed alive, or at least half so. He showed the shade what he had now become, and that this eternal life was to come at a price, that his soul was to become his. Ever since Sin has stalked the world, floating about and never really feeling much of anything except a cheated feeling. He couldn't exact any sort of revenge against the beast and he would never again feel the pleasure of a full stomach, or the blessing of a good night's sleep. He isn't really living, this is only a shoddy imitation, but still he can not let even this go.

So begins...
